Oxy tough stain remover works very well at removing non-oil based stains. As the name implies it uses "OXY" to help eliminate tough stains, through the help of oxidation, which is a bleaching process. Not all bleaches are like clorox, this is a gentler, color safe bleach. Bleaches work by either adding oxygen or removing oxygen from a color(stain), which makes it, in essence invisible. Even though this is a color safe bleach, it is always a good idea to do a colorfast test on a small corner of the material, before dumping too much right away, and having a problem. Because of the Oxy, this spray should work great on any type of organic stains, meaning plant, animal, human,...etc. If you have a grease or oil based stain, than you should probably start with a degreaser, to lift out as much of the oils as possible before adding a water based solution. Adding water to an oil based stain without trying to remove the oils first, can result in a permanent stain. Some cleaners can do a decent job at trying to do both jobs with one solution, but no one solution will ever work on everything. I tried the Oxy tough stain remover on three different stains, on different materials. Two of the spots were completely gone afterwards, and the third still had some trace of the stain evident. However to be fair, I was not sure what type of stain the 3rd one was. So, there is a good chance there might have been some grease involved. I am including before and after shots of the three stains. I also used my hoover carpet cleaner to lift away the dirt on the first 2 stains, but not the third one (car seat). The suction from the carpet cleaner was definitely a big help, and a lot easier than just using towels to soak up the stain. Overall I think this will great on most of the satins I encounter, and it actually smells nice, so that is a plus!

The Hoover Oxy Tough Stain Remover worked pretty well on a few ink stains that I had on my rug. I had to use 2 applications on the stains. After the second application and a light scrubbing with a small soft bristle brush, most of the stains came out. They didn’t come out completely, but at least enough came out to where they aren’t noticeable. I’ve attached before and after pictures, and as you can see the rug is cleaner where I applied the Hoover Oxy Tough Stain Remover. The Hoover Oxy Tough Stain Remover does have a pleasant odor and not a chemical odor like many other brands. It dries quickly when just sprayed lightly, but for tougher stains a little scrubbing and more product may be needed, as in my case with the ink stains. It can work by itself by just spraying for most stains, but for tougher stains, like ink or wine, it may take a couple more applications and a little bit of scrubbing with a soft bristle brush to get the stain out completely or almost completely. I gave it 4 stars because it did work, does have a pleasant smell, but I did have to scrub the spot to get it out. I recommend it for light stains, or for use after using a rug cleaning machine for those left over tougher stains.

Thanks to a dog, 2 year old, and a few cups of coffee, I have no shortage of carpet stains in my house that needed this product's attention and it worked on all of them without scrubbing or multiple applications. Pros - Bottle has stream and spray setting (I like spray to cover larger areas evenly) - Directions were clear and easy to follow. You just spray it on, wait 10 minutes, and blot it with a damp terry cloth. - Removed a few coffee stains that another cleaning product couldn't get out, with only gentle agitation/blotting no scrubbing/or brush needed. - No strong smell. Things to Consider - Like many products, you need to test it on a small hidden area first to make sure it doesn't remove the color. No issues on my synthetic carpets. - It also works as a spot treatment for a carpet cleaning machine, but I don't have one and got good results.

I used it on a cotton rug to clean some blood stains a few hours after coming back from the hospital. It worked pretty well, considering I wasn't able to clear the stains right away for obvious reasons. There is still some resemblance of the stains on the rug, but it's good enough and it did not discolor the rug at all. I bet it would have been nearly perfect if I was able to use this product right away, before the stains sunk in and dried up. In terms of the smell other people are complaining about, I did not notice any strong/chemical fragrance, so I am pleased with that.

Had a couple spots on carpets in the house that were either from spills or the dog that seemed to never go away. Even tried a small carpet cleaner and the spot remained. However, with this Oxy tough stain remover and 10 minutes, I just dabbed it up with a towel. You can see it working as you are spraying it. Only thing is I wish they used the bottle design like some other cleaners so that you can tilt it and spray.

I almost wrote this review yesterday and I am glad I waited. Yesterday it looked like the Hoover Oxy Tough Stain Remover was going to get a 3 out of 5. But after letting it sit overnight, it is a definite 5 out of 5. Let me preface this review by stating that we have two types of carpets, both in need of carpet cleaning. One is a grey, cheap carpet, bought to fill in space until we get the floors redone later this year. It is a synthetic carpet, so stains come out fairly easily. The other is a nice, high-quality beige carpet that has been in the house for many years and still looks new. For the review, I cleaned coffee stains and hairball stains. I did not use a carpet machine for cleaning. I sprayed directly on the stain, let it sit 10 – 15 minutes, and then dabbed the stain with a shop towel. On both carpets, the coffee stains and hairball stains all came out. A few of the coffee stains required a second application, and one required me to scrub it with the towel before it came out. I attached a photo of one of the coffee-stained areas after treatment. On the nice carpet, there was a black spot on the stairwell. I’m not sure what that spot was, but it was pitch black. The Hoover stain remover reduced the intensity of the color some, but by scrubbing the stain, the area around the spot turned black. I treated that spot twice and I could not get rid of it. Again, to be fair, I have no idea what that spot is, and I’ve tried other cleaners on it, and they didn’t even change the color of it, much less removed or reduced it. See attached photo. The reason I waited another day to review the Hoover Oxy Tough Stain Remover was that the areas I treated looked like the carpet was now stained with an oil-looking stain as if the stain remover was oil-based. It seemed like I traded one stain for a new, cleaner-looking stain. And the coffee stain that required scrubbing looked like it turned that area of the carpet white. The fact was that the carpet was still damp. This morning the treated areas had no sign of any stain except the black spot. The oil-looking spots were completely gone and the carpet that looked like it had turned white had not and was the same original color. So, my experience on two different types of carpets is that the Hoover Oxy Tough Stain Carpet cleaner works very well on the typical stains I deal with. Read and follow the instructions and make sure you let it dry overnight before judging on how well it works. I highly recommend the Hoover Oxy Tough Stain Remover, especially if you love coffee in carpeted areas and have cats.

Hoover’s new Oxy Tough Stain Remover is the best I have ever used for removing very tough stains. Even when you think your home is clean, free of germs, etc. – well, it's probably not. I’m a Scottie and Westie lover and after 6 years with having no dog, I broke down and came home with a couple of Westies. Just as children have their own personalities, these pups do too. One was very easy to train, but the other one is so ‘happy go lucky’ that she has been difficult. I knew we had experienced some accidents on my nice rugs, but I thought I had been able to address them when they happened and there were no visible stains to reveal otherwise. Knowing that there probably were bacteria growing in my wool rugs I went a step further to locate and eradicate it. Using a 495-nanometer ultraviolet blacklight, I was able to find several! With the help of Hoover’s Oxy Tough Stain Remover, I am in the process of eliminating them. It is very simple to use when applied from the 22 oz spray bottle. I have sprayed the spots that I could find by using the ultraviolet light, and let each spot sit for at least 10 minutes. Next, I took an old wet towel, placed it over each stain and blotted the areas, rinsing the towel and blotting the area again until I felt that I had removed the cleaner from the rugs. For the most part the stains dissolved on the first application. There are still portions of a stain in an older rug, but after I apply this product using my Hoover Carpet Cleaner in conjunction with Hoover’s carpet cleaning detergent, I think that it will most likely also dissolve. I definitely will stock up on this in a larger quantity than 22 oz. until I at least get my house totally clean again. Lucie just might have to watch Lillie and I from her crate. Giving her away is not an option.

Great cleaner! I finally found something that cleaned some tough stains on my carpet. There was one particular stain on my carpet that was dry and there for years. I have rented those carpet washers/cleaner machines, but nothing would clean that stain. I don't even remember what it was, maybe wine. However this cleaner was tough on it and after a couple of applications, it finally was removed, thanks Hoover! (check my pics). It says it works on fabric, car seats etc too, I highly recommend it. Its also recommended to use a vacuum that can suck water or something like that per the instructions, but is not entirely necessary.

I have been looking for a versatile stain remover that I can use around the house. Despite my best intentions, I always manage to stain my carpet. I decided to give Hoover a try and I am glad I did. This stuff works fast! I sprayed it on a stain approximately the size of a quarter and waited the recommended 10 minutes. After lightly scrubbing the stain was gone. Each bottle even has a helpful pro cleaning tip - mine was how to remove gum from the carpet. I highly recommend this product.

I have a cat and 2 young children, so there's a lot of collateral damage to the rugs and carpets throughout the house. I tried out this Hoover Oxy tough stain remover on one of my slippers to get out a punch stain, seemed to work just fine. I also used it to clean up some milk spit up which smells gross for anyone who has a child who has spit up their milk, and the Oxy freshened the spot right up. Would buy again!

I used this on a spot where my cat got sick. It works great. I followed the directions on the back of the bottle... sprayed and waited ten minutes then blotted. Everything came right up and it even foams if you scrub making it easier to clean the mess. The smell it gives off is clean and good at eliminating odors. I recommend giving this one a try.

I had a stain my son left at a difficult spot near the top of the stairs. I followed the directions and removed the stain. The Hoover Oxy Tough Stain Remover even smells decent. View the pictures and see for yourself.

Great product for getting those tough stains out without all the extra scrubbing process. I used this when we first moved into our house on deep stains that were not cleaned out by the deep carpet cleaner machine. It’s hard to say how long some the stains were there for but it got them out. I did have to spray the harder stubborn stains a couple of times and I did go over with the deep carpet cleaner machine after each spray. For the harder stubborn stains it took about three rounds and it got it right out. I always have this in my home ready to attack any stains that may appear!

Really good for removing stains on carpet. Easy to remove tough stains

This stuff is amazing! Really works, although it doesn’t appear to at first. But after an overnight drying time, the 15 year dirt and water stain was just about gone. One more application and another overnight drying session and the stain had completely disappeared. Buy it, follow the directions and you won’t be disappointed.

Spray worked really well for dog urine that was on rug. Has a nice clean scent, not overwhelming or soapy smell. I use it to pretreat before shampooing and lifts dirt right away which out having to scrub a lot.

Used this on a pet stain that persisted on a light beige carpet. Unlike the other cleaners I tried which did nothing....this did lighten the stain though did not remove it completely.

I used it on my carpet , and had spots clean with little effort . Will use this product again , for all spots. with no discoloring . Thanks for having this product on hand ..

We used this product to get some stains our of our carpet that we thought were just something we would have to live with but this got them out.

Very pleased with how the product performs, removes stains with very little effort. Did not need to retreat.
