Pros: -Cleaning pattern is linear and predictable, does not zig and zag randomly like other robot vacuums -Works well in homes with pets -You can construct virtual Smart Walls in the app to designate no-go zones for the robot vacuum -Easy set up -Indicator lights on robot vacuum show wi-fi connectivity, battery, dirt cup full, and error -Returns to dock automatically to recharge -Amazon Alexa and Google Home compatible -3 cleaning modes - quiet, standard, beast (battery drains quickly on beast) Cons: -Must use app for full technology/potential of robot vacuum -Battery drains quickly compared to other robot vacuums -App is buggy at times -Superficial cleaning on carpet

Thank you for your review! We are continually updating and improving the app to ensure everyone has a great experience with Rogue. A tip for optimizing battery life is ensuring you are using Rogue in standard or stealth mode (like you mentioned above.) Rogue has 120 minute run time but it can vary if you have a lot of carpet and obstacles throughout your home. Thank you for the feedback! TTIFCHoover

I was looking at various automated vacuums to help my parents out (they're getting older) and this thing is pretty sweet. It wasn't too hard to set up, and I really like that it has connected functionality to a phone and/or Alexa so my parents can just tell it to go and it will. As with any technology, there's a slight learning curve, but its definitely worth it!

I've resisted getting a robotic vacuum for some time, but when I saw that Hoover had entered the market , I had to know more. This little guy cleans my entire apartment floor like a champ. Super easy to set up and clean.

As I've come to expect from Hoover, the vacuum itself functions well at daily maintenance and it has a sleek look. Setup and the app could use a bit of help. Setup seemed to have trouble connecting to my WiFi, though once I got through that hurdle it wasn't too bad. General use is pretty good, it functions on a schedule and keeps the house clean, but again the app leaves much to be desired. It has stability issues, it does not alert when the trap is full or when the vacuum is stuck. Really the app feels like an afterthought. The best you may get out of this device is to not use the app after initial setup and just hit the run button on the vacuum. I hope some significant updates come down for the app to make this the 'intelligent' vacuum it claims to be.

As someone who hates finding time to vacuum, this is my second robot vacuum (first was an iRobot). I found it easy to set up (pretty much plug and go). While many have commented on the app, you don't need it to operate the vacuum and new updates must have come out since I got mine because I didn't have those issues. I really like how the robot seems to sense when it's getting close to an item and stops itself (unlike my iRobot which just bumps into it and repeatedly bumps my furniture until it moves along). It's easy to clean out. It's pretty quiet. And I can just set a cleaning time or press on when I want it to go. The only downside - my two year old loves to follow it and press the off button!

My wife had been eager to try out a robot vacuum and this certainly didn't disappoint us. The setup and use was straight forward, the app took a bit of getting used to, but no complaints after we got the hang of it. Our furniture style is high enough above the floor that this little guy can scoot right underneath most everything that we have. There is an option to create boundaries, we haven't needed to try that, but I expect that may be handy for some people. We tried all three settings and basically, as you'd expect, as the cleaning level is increased, the battery drains more quickly and the vacuum gets louder - our upper floor is small enough that battery life hasn't been an issue even using the highest setting. On the low setting, I am able to take a nap without the noise bugging me. I'd have to say that it is better than we expected and pretty cool to have around. Saves us time and trouble.

I have long been a user of "other" robot vacuum models and this was my first experience with Hoover. I am impressed with the exception of a couple unexplained flaws that have not reappeared. Out of the box set up was easy and the self explanatory read me first card was good because as with everything I wanted to plug it in a go. The initial mapping feature paired with the app is what sets this apart from the others I have tried. The map actually shows on your device and you can make modifications or "smart walls" to keep Rogue out of certain areas. Setting up the map and layout is pretty effortless, then you create rooms and schedule and you are all set. If you like you can also connect to Alexa or Google home. Sometimes watching a robot vacuum get stuck is so painful but I have not had this experience with the Rogue. I also like the side brushes, I find these to be pretty effective in getting to the dust bunnies hiding in the corners. I was a bit concerned at first with the size of the brush and agitator, they seemed small so I was concerned it would take longer and more cycles to clean. I was pleasantly surprised it did not which I would attribute to the mapping feature and Rogue's ability to navigate along with the use of smart walls. Cleaning the unit and emptying the dust bin is easily achieved and self explanatory. There are three cleaning modes, stealth, normal and Beast. I like beast mode, it gets the job done but I have found setting a schedule and using normal mode is more efficient. The one complaint I have with most of these are the base, it has to be positioned just right or you risk it knocking it off kilter and then it may not charge. It always is not convenient to set it up against a flat surface particularly if you have 3/4" base shoe. Not a big deal as I have found work arounds using rug pads, 3m products etc.. to hold the base more secure. As for the initial issues I had problems getting the unit connected to the app. Not sure if it was an app issue or my hardware but after deleting it, turning off and on my bluetooth and trying again it all worked. All in all I would probably stick with this unit/model over the other brands I have experience with due to the mapping and app.

This is my first robot vacuum and I was not sure what to expect. Instructions were easy and even reflected a personality from the minute I opened the box. I had it run for awhile before I downloaded the app - not a mistake but things made more sense with the app. Other reviews had glitchy experience with iOS - mine worked just fine first time. The recon it does is cool and you can see the map of your room in the app. I have a dog and the Rogue powered through dog hair and dust balls from 2 new area rugs. When it ran out of battery it turned around went back to it's station and watching it park itself was downright amazing. I have a lot of furniture - sectional couch, 4 large chairs plus two oversized ottomans just in living area - and it did amazingly well navigating around them. Even extricating itself (mostly) from under the furniture. All in all this has been a very positive experience and I hope it continues as well as it started.

The Rogue has been running at my house a few weeks now and I must say that I am impressed. I don't enjoy vacuuming, so that is one chore that is easy for me to skip which doesn't work well having a dog. I was excited when the Rogue arrived, and I started envisioning always clean floors. The setup was easy with my iPhone and I had the Rogue running in "Recon mode" creating a map of my rooms and then I put the Rogue to work. While the Rogue was on its inaugural mission, I created a schedule run every morning. I found it cool watching how the Rogue systematically work it was around obstacles. The Rogue didn't keep just banging into an obstacle until it could go around it, the Rouge would detect the obstacle then turn, scan, and work it way around it. Pretty smart. My biggest surprise was how well the Rogue cleans underneath furniture that it can get under, such as cabinets, tables, and beds. This thing is cleaning in areas that I would never regularly vacuum. I expect that this regular full cleaning will reduce the amount of dust in my house.

We have had a Rogue 970 for about three weeks now. It works so well! Setup is quick and easy. Just download the app and pair it to your robot. The first time it goes out the robot "scouts" the area finding all the rooms and furniture. Tell it to clean and off it goes! It refines its map as it goes (you can watch it create the map on the app). You can even schedule the Rogue to run when you aren't home! Watching the robot work its way around then room cleaning and leaving perfectly straight lines in the carpet is so much fun. At my house it cleans the perimeter of the room then comes in and does overlapping passes making sure it cleans everything before it heads back to its base to recharge. We love this thing! With a small child and two pets it keeps the entire first floor of our house clean and has drastically reduced the amount of dusting we need to do. The Rogue has made vacuuming fun again!

The Hoover Rogue vacuum is a very powerful little machine. It can negotiate difficult conditions with very little assistance from humans. I tested it both in my shop - concrete floors with rubber mats placed where I stand or walk a lot. The Rogue was able to handle the transitions between floor materials with no problems. I then used it in the living room. Low Berber carpet with runners atop the carpet. Again no problems. On to the rest of the first floor. Mixture of hard wood floors, with carpet runners and higher rubber mats in the kitchen. Again, no issues traversing the different floors. And in all cases, it did a great job cleaning the floors, as I always got a fair amount of material in the dust bin. The vacuum also always returned to its charging base when its job is done. Dumping the bin is a snap. It is accessible from the top of the vacuum, making it much easier to access than from the side like some others. There is minimal other places to clean occasionally. Overall, it appears to be very simple to clean and maintain. Up until now, I hadn't connected the robot to my WiFi or downloaded the app. Until you connect to the vacuum with your phone, it won't turn into the smart machine it can become. It just randomly wanders around until it decides it is done, and returns to the provided charging base. Installed the app, created an account, and then is when it got messy. I could connect to my WiFi, but the next step is for the Rogue to connect the Hoover's servers. After several tries, and calling support, we finally solved it by doing a factory rest on the vacuum. The install went seamless after that. So now you have a smart vacuum. You send it on a reconnaissance of your home, where it ma-s out the walls and other barriers. You can watch the map as it is discovered and built by the robot. When it has discovered an area it can clean efficiently, it will switch to clean mode and travel back and forth in parallel lines covering a rectangular area. Again, you can watch the progress on the map view on your phone. You are also able to set up a schedule to have the device follow. You can also create virtual walls on the map to keep the vacuum from entering an area. Overall, I am impressed with the logic and smarts this thing exhibits. It appears to clean an area much more efficiently than just random motion. It is a little on the noisy side, but I just leave the room when it is operating.

This is a review of the Hoover Rogue Robot Vacuum. I was very excited to get this product; I've a friend who has a Roomba and he noticed that this vacuum had an additional rotating brush at its front. It was pretty easy to get started and the Hoover app made it simple to control and set up. I didn'tice that the battery didn't last very long on a single charge, but I had scheduled it to clean once a day. With that much work it wasn't a surprise of the shorter battery life and the fact that the dust bin got full by the third clean. I've since changed it to clean twice a week and it the battery charge lasts longer. Since I work during the day my wife, who was home to watch it clean, noticed that it didn't clean the entire area. My friend said that it was most likely due to blocked areas and/or it sensed that the area didn't need cleaning. Both reasons made sense to me. As far as the actual ability to clean, it does pick up a lot of dust and little bits of things. We have cats and it did pick up extra cat food and liter pretty well. There were a few little things that it missed, but even with a broom some things are hard to get. The charging station/its home is very compact so we were able to put it in a corner of our living room, so it's not an eye sore. All in all this is a very good product with a decent (not excellent) battery and pretty good cleaning capabilities.

Thank you for your review! Rogue has a 120 minute run time and will fully charge in 3 hours. If Rogue isn't able to finish cleaning on it's full charge, it will return to base to recharge and then go back out to finish the job. However, if you still feel Rogue has a short battery life, you can go into settings in the Hoover Home app to change it's performance mode to "Stealth Mode" which will lower performance and noise level but will give you some additional battery life. It's amazing to watch the Rogue do its thing and then see the routine dirt and dog fur that gets picked up. I always thought robotic vacuums were probably more of a gimmicky luxury that I could do without. Boy, have I been proven wrong. The convenience of being able to let the vacuum do it's thing while I get other things done has been wonderful. Plus, if you are a pet owner staying ahead of the pet fur is half the battle. Setup was pretty easy and straight forward. Manuals, packaging and instructions are designed with a bit of creative wording and flair which is kind of fun compared to the typical blah presentation. Installed the iPhone app which is straight forward to use. The Rogue runs a recon mode to map out one's house which can be used to set virtual boundaries that are off limits. Schedules can be set-up to program run times. The Rogue indicator lights will show battery charge, WiFi connection and need to empty dirt cup. When operating the vacuum has an acceptable noise level and proficiently navigates around objects and over things like area rugs. It's very rare that it gets stuck anywhere or can't navigate out of a tight spot. I feel that the cleaning job it does is quite good and the investment is worth it to take one routine cleaning chore off the to-do list.

Skeptic Turned Believer with Hoover Rogue

"Do you really need a robot vacuum?" The question has often left me saying, "no," and therefore robot-less. However, a friend turned me on to Hoover and convinced me to "go Rogue." I'm so glad I did. First, I love the design of this product. It has modern and sleek clean lines that suit my home. It's also very quiet. I've been in homes with other robots and felt as if the robot vacuum should be seen and not heard. You can hear that the Rogue is running, but not at a level that compromises conversations. Second, I've two cats. They are short hair tabbys, but in order to stay on top of "the mess" I run a thorough vacuum once a week. The Hoover Rogue wouldn't completely replace a thorough weekly vacuum, BUT it does make for a nice quick in-between-job or a tide me over. Despite the compartment being small, it will take up a solid chunk of dust and dirt before asking to be emptied. My living room is completely carpeted, and I've been very happy with the results. Lastly, the charging station is extremely well designed. Nice and small and easy to put out of the way. You can tell this unit was designed to be in a functional home, and I appreciate that! The vacuum has an app that you can run from your Smart Phone to communicate where the vacuum should go, as well as easy to use buttons on the top. Looking forward to using the "home mapping" features next. Thank you Hoover!

I had high hopes for this robot vacuum. The idea of a really smart vacuum that you could tell to go to certain areas and leave others alone was appealing. In actuality though, this robot doesn't meet my expectations. I should point out that I've another robot vacuum that does a better job. My Hoover Rogue 970 will not dock properly. It always makes it near its dock, but never onto it. Also, the batteries seem to drain very quickly. It always has to stop before it has done the whole floor; about 1500 sq. ft. or less of area that I want it to clean. Another alarming issue is that when it is done, it has very little dirt/debris in the catch bin. I've run my other robot vacuum immediately after the Hoover Rogue 970 and it has docked with a full dirt chamber. I've been running the Rogue in normal mode. Perhaps I need to up it to Beast Mode to pick up dirt, but then the battery will die even faster. I've tried different things to make the Rogue work properly but nothing has worked as of yet. I've tried deleting all maps and running the recon mode again, I've tried moving the dock to a more wide open wall space. Suffice it to say that it has been a disappointment. Some positives about the product are that it can be run through Alexa and Google Assistant. The app has finally been released and it allows you to do things like set up a cleaning schedule, view its map of your home, create smartwalls to prevent it from going into certain areas, change the mode to stealth, normal or beast mode, start cleaning, dock (or at least attempt to dock), etc. Maybe Hoover can send out an update to make it work better, but as of right now I'd say there are better options out there for robot vacuums.

I have had robot vacuums for at least a decade now, but haven't been very happy with them. They bumped into everything, went off track, lost their way, but not my new Hoover ... or Roggie as I have now named her. I almost didn't get this as I couldn't find the Android app, but I took the plunge and am not regretting it. It arrived on Friday and I set it up. Process was pretty easy although I recommend being very close to it so that it finishes the connection and set-up. First check, cleaning power ... passed! It got everything. We had pet hair, cereal and all sorts of things I had no idea where on my floor, but Roggie found it and it was all in the cleaning bin. Next, map my house ... passed! Great map of the house and it seemed to get everything. It would be nice if some of the lines connected, but that's OK, I can see it worked. Last, scheduling. I hated having to press all the buttons on my Roomba to just set it up to clean every day at noon. This one was a big PASS for me. So much easier and I was blown away when I saw the robot went back to charge before finishing what it couldn't before. Wow! One interesting observation I had was that I set this up on Thursday or Friday but by Saturday I saw they rolled out new functionality and I didn't even have to download anything. The new mapping was much better and refined. I feel like it is getting better and better. I also haven't tried this on the iPhone yet, but I'll set it up on my wife's phone this weekend when she returns and see how it compares. I can tell you that my Google 6P worked like a charm though.

The Hoover Rogue 970 robot vacuum looked like a great addition to our home. With such a name "Rogue," I really thought that it would meet up to its name and perform its job with ease. I was completely wrong. Out of the box, I immediately charged it before doing anything else. Once fully charged, I went ahead and followed the instructions to link it to my home network to get it going. This was a very easy process that anyone can do, as it is as simple as choosing your network and entering your password. This wasn't the issue withe the Hoover Rouge 970. The initial setup is a breeze, but getting it to vacuum, and finishing its task, was a completely different story. On a full charge, I started the robot vacuum in the medium setting. I let it do its thing while I went outside to work on another project. About fifteen minutes, I come back inside and found the robot shut completely down in the middle of my living room. I thought that it might not have charged completely(display read full), so I went ahead an put it back in the charger. After a full night charge, I start the robot and put it on "map mode." It maps out my house (very cool), but does it very slowly. After it finishes mapping the house, I put it back to charge for a few hours. I turn it back on after it charges and put it in the highest vacuum setting. I immediately noticed that the vacuum kept stopping, forcing me to have to restart it manually. This happened multiple times!! I thought that the issue might have been the high setting, so I put it back to normal, cleaned the sensors, roller, etc.. . The issue persisted. I'm not sure what is going on with Hoover's Rogue robot vacuum, but I have never had issues with my Shark Ion Robot 750 vaccum. Honestly, I don't think I can recommend this vacuum to folks. I would explore other options before going with the Hoover Rogue 970.

I was happy to receive my new Rogue vacuum because of all the cool features that's packed. Hoover tried to make setup as easy as possible and I'm sure many people will appreciate that. To start your cleaning mission with the Rogue all you need is an outlet for the charger with enough room to place the docking station. I did my 3 hour charge and by hitting the play button the Rogue was on its way to help me clean my floors. You can see how it is analyzing your rooms so it can have a map ready to clean everywhere possible. The Rogue is a smart vacuum for many reasons. Compared to my other robot vacuum it navigates without bumping into everything which eliminates the extra noise. After the Rogue completed the cleaning it easily returned to its docking station. I checked the small canister and I will say it picked up a lot. I'm proud to say that the Rogue performed amazingly well when it comes to cleaning and that's the main objective. With the design I do like it but I would like to see it shorter in height so it can fit under more furnitures. The Rogue has trouble going under my tv stand and sofa. The app I cannot review properly. I did download the iOS app but I cannot get it to connect to the WiFi. I followed step by step directions to have it working but I continue to get a connection error. I'm not new to using WiFi so I can say that I know enough to know the basics of connecting a device to my router. I tried for hours and on different days but still no success. I included a picture showing the error. The error came up even when I made the WiFi insecure with no security password. Many of the features of the Rogue are from using the app so because I cannot access it I cannot give this a higher review without using the app. I will update my review with a comment if and when I can finally use the app.

I wasn't too sure about this vacuum going into using it. Hoover doesn't exactly have a reputation for robot vacuums and I wasn't sure how this would hold up next to something like a Roomba. After spending the weekend using it though I've come away extremely impressed with the Rogue's cleaning and navigation abilities. There are some issues with the app right now - I wish I could give this 4.5 stars, but I'm going to give it 5 stars trusting that Hoover can fix the issues with the app. The box contains what you'd expect and includes the vacuum, base station, and a cleaning tool. There are some status LEDs on the top of the vacuum and the dust bin is stored in the center, accessible by flipping up the lid and pressing a button to pop it out. I really like the dust bin design and it seems like it's bigger than our Roomba 690's bin, though I couldn't confirm if this actually true. Setting it up was pretty easy through the app and after getting the Rogue connected to WiFi I sent it off into 'Recon Mode', which sends the vacuum off to map out your floor with it's built-in laser sensors. I did this on both floors of my home and the mapping didn't take longer than 5-10 minutes on either floor; my second floor has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and I was especially impressed at the speed that it was able to navigate and map all these rooms. My maps don't look as good as the ones in Hoover's pictures, but I'm impressed with their accuracy. The app doesn't save maps for multiple floors, so if you move the vacuum between floors you'll have to remap them each time (I think Hoover also recommends you do this if you move the base station to another part of your floor as well). Once the mapping was done I set off to clean my first floor, which is consists of a hallway, living room, and kitchen, with no doors separating them and all hardwood. It cleaned the entire floor without a much issue. One thing I didn'tice was that the Rogue wasn't a 'brave' as my Roomba about getting under things and really working itself in. This might have more to do with the fact that my Roomba has relies on its bumpers instead of lasers, but there were a couple of corner spots the Rogue didn't quite get into. The noise level wasn't bad - I would say it's slightly louder than my Roomba, but it sounds more like a loud desk fan where the Roomba sounds like an RC car, which is more pleasant to my ears. Moving upstairs I was most excited to try the Rogue here. I discovered while moving the vacuum upstairs that it has 3 power modes - Stealth, Normal, and Beast. It's automatically set to Normal mode, but since my upstairs is all carpet I decided to try Beast mode out. Beast mode ups the noise and power level noticeably and it did a really good job cleaning our carpet. I did seem to cut the battery life in about half, but was able to get through the entire floor with just enough juice left to make it back to the charger. Watching the vacuum run upstairs I could see how it navigates much better. From what I can see it moves from room to room, does the edges, and then does a back and forth to fill in the middle space. It's very methodical and easy to see where it's been and where it's going to next. The app even gives you a live view of where the vacuum is and what areas it's cleaned. I did run into two problems while cleaning upstairs. The first problem was that the vacuum clogged with hair and fur once and I had to clear it out. Granted, it had been a couple of weeks since I last vacuumed upstairs and I imagine this is something that will occur less with regular cleanings, but it's something to note. My second problem was with a TV stand that's just about the same height as the vacuum, but a little shorter. It led to the vacuum wedging itself underneath and getting stuck. The Hoover app allows you to set up virtual boundaries to prevent this sort of thing, but as it stands right now the virtual boundaries are really hard to set up in the app. When adding a virtual boundary the app freezes the map in whatever view you had it in and often creates the boundary offscreen with no way to grab and move it to where you need to go. Even when I finally got it into the position I wanted it to be in, adjusting it on a small scale to avoid something like a piece of furniture tested me. Hopefully this is something Hoover will improve in the future. I also had to empty the dust bin a few times while it was cleaning upstairs, but that's understandable given the size of the area. Overall I've a lot more good things than bad to say about the Rogue. It's not perfect, but most of the time it's so good I don't remember that.

Hoover is a name that im sure most of us grew up with seeing in our household. So who better then to produce a robotic vacuum cleaner from a name you know and trust. Lets talk about some of the cool features and also some of the setbacks and find out if this may be a right fit for you. First off if this is your first go at buying a robotic vacuum let me talk briefly about what to expect. Out of the box your going to get a charging station with power cord, the actual bot, two side rollers and the waste bin. Out of the box Hoover gives you this undercover secret agent type feel with the cleaner. They give you a folder with "Top Secret" orders to get it started. Your going to get about two hours of run time and when the battery level gets low the cleaner will automatically return to its docking station to charge itself back up. This is pretty much the standard for just about every robotic cleaner out there. But lets talk about what makes this really stand out and hold it back. First off Hoover really centers alot around you using their app. The reason I say this is because the actual bot itself has only a play/pause button. So what this means is that without the app all you can do is basically wake it up and have it clean at its own pace. Without the app you cant utilize the different cleaning modes available or even set up cleaning schedules. So this is pretty much where im seeing most new robotic vacuum cleaners go now, which is the way of an app to control your unit remotely from anywhere at anytime. However this is where I found the first and most frustrating problem yet. In order to use the app you have to link the two together but before you can do that your Hoover vacuum needs to be connected to your WiFi. All im going to say is if you are not tech savvy you will have a hard time doing this and if you are, well your still going to struggle a bit. The problem I had with connecting it to my wifi was for starters it only wants the 2.5gHz line which is fine by me. However every time I tried to connect to my WiFi my signal would drop out and it would keep giving me an error message. It seems my SSID was holding it up however I was under the impression that it was supposed to be user friendly and that I wouldn't have to dive that far into my settings. It took me a good 15 mins to get it connected and that was only after me researching trouble boards for a solution. Next was the app. The app at first was no where to be found but then after a little more digging I finally found it. It seems this product may still be in beta testing because the app I found reads like this "Hoover Home ( unreleased)". It goes on to tell me that the app is still in development and may be unstable. Great!! Needless to say I was getting very upset and on the verge of giving this 1 star. So why the change of heart? Well I realized that after getting in contact with the manufacture they assured me that through firmware updates the app would continue to improve and become more user friendly. I understand that no product is perfect and only gets better with time so I gave the app another go. To my surprise I finally got the two to link up and this is where I really saw the unit shine. Once you get past the very annoying and frustrating hiccups (which as of writing this review they still exist) you will get to see what exactly makes this such a great unit. The app allows you to name your bot and set up schedules. It will let you know when the waste bin is full and it will also let you pick from three different modes which are quiet, standard and best mode!!!! You heard right this thing has a beast mode. Lets talk about its recon feature first. Right off the bat Hoover ask for you to put the robot in to "Recon" mode. While in recon the Rogue 970 will act like just about every other unit out there. It starts roaming around aimlessly bumping into just about everything acting like a clumsy bot. Whats its actually doing is its trying to map out your floor plan so that it can clean in straight lines and knows automatically what obstacles are where so it can avoid it. But what is key to this feature is that it allows you to create virtual barriers that the unit is not allowed to go. So let me explain this a bit if your new to this. As smart as some of these bots are there are some things they just cant see and avoid. Electrical cables are the big concern and reason in my opinion for barriers. So lets say you dont want the bot to go in your children's room due to the fact that theres lots of small toys and electrical cables it may suck up. Some of the cheaper bots will not provide anything so this forces you to have lay an obstacle down such as a chair or maybe a box to block its path. Some of my other bots that I own have magnetic strips that you lay down and the unit will not cross the line. Other units make you buy add on sensors that need to be equiped in order to accomplish this task. Hoover however has built into its units technology a system that will map out your floorplan and then allow you to mark what areas you want it to avoid. This feature is awesome cause it means you dont have to lay anything down or buy any add ons. If you look in the picture I provided you can see how the floor layout looks. I know, it looks like a 6yr old drew it but when you think about the technology behind its processing, its actually pretty impressive. And believe me when you mark an area that is off limits it will not go near that area at all. Also once it learns your floor plan it then begins to vacuum in a normal manner now. So after it is done doing its job you now have these nice straight carpet lines from it moving up and down instead of moving in an erratic manner like most other bots. Now what happens if it sucks up a power cord or sock by accident? Well in most cases depending on how big the piece is it will shut itself down and send you a message. However power cables will not be detected and will not stop the unit. It will suck up cables and continue to keep on moving with a tail hanging out. Don't let this discourage you however cause this is pretty much an issue for just about all units on the market including the higher end ones. So how well does it clean? Quite well to tell you the truth. The Rogue 970 will clean just about any and all animal hair out of most carpets. Its suction power is quite strong, so strong that I wouldn't use it on shag carpet and area rugs with long or thick fibers cause it will yank it so hard that the unit will get itself stuck. As far as the three modes go so far unless im looking at them wrong they seem to be related to sound and suction power. Quite mode is as it says. Its very quiet and makes almost no noise and also seems to do very light cleaning. Standard is slightly louder and is just about what your going to use for everyday use as far as suction power goes. Beast mode, well it is as the name says. The noise is louder for sure but nothing ear blowing. Its still quieter than an upright, the main difference is in beast mode you will get the the max suction power available for deep cleaning and it appears to drain the battery alot faster in beast mode. The waste bin is a little smaller than I would of liked. Its enough to clean one room then after that your going to have to empty it. If you forget to empty it no worries, the unit will let you know its full via a light on the actual unit itself or the app. The units optical sensors seem to be very heightened. Its able to very easily recognize most obstacles without bumping into them and has no problem with stairs. The unit will not attempt to go over a stair case, its sensors pick up on it then turn it around right away. It also has no issue going over transitions or area rugs either. Heres my final verdict. You need to understand something when buying robotic vacuum cleaners and that is that no unit out there is perfect or flawless. Its more of a give and take. The biggest set back for me and this unit is the fact that all the bugs are not worked out. Im upset that Hoover would let something go that still seems like its in beta testing and not in its final stages. This doesnt bother me too much because I know over time its going to improve through firmware updates. However if you are looking for a 100% out of the box user friendly set up, then as of right now this may not be for you. But if you can get past the clunky set up and see all the potential and technology that this unit has to offer then I think your going to be very happy. This is by far my favorite cleaner now that it is all set up and working properly. The technology packed inside this unit is some of the most advance I have seen so far. In my opinion this the first cleaner I have owned or seen that will clean in perfectly straight lines. Who knows by the time you buy this product all bugs may be worked out and it may be a perfect unit after all. Either way this is a good unit for me and if you do decide to buy one just make sure you know someone who is slightly tech savvy. The Good: -Two hour battery life -Beast Mode!!! -Smart technology for floor mapping -endless barrier set ups -Smart obstacle avoidance The Bad: -Horrible WiFi set up -An incomplete app
