I figured a low cost carpet cleaner would do the job and I was right. The Hoover works well on carpeting and area rugs and I used the hand attachment on a smaller rug with success. The machine is somewhat bulky and heavy, especially on thick carpeting. There are four steps to remove and clean the receiving tank which should have been made easier to do.
