    Breathtaking open world

Horizon Zero Dawn is a fantastic game. It's open world is so expansive that you could walk around and be in awe simply by how it looks. The gameplay is even better, the animations that the machines have in combat just make sense. There are no glitchy movements that make it seem unrealistic and the movement of your own character (Alloy) mimics the free running seen in Assasins Creed and overall the game flows very well! In conclusion I would absolutely recommend this game if you're a fan of exploring an open world with plenty of quests and a compelling story!

Horizon Zero Dawn is an amazing open world RPG from the makers of Killzone! I swear if I didn't know it was from guerrilla games I'd would have guessed it was from a Bethesda or Ubisoft offshoot company. An expansive rich world full of machines, ruins and side quests for hours of enjoyment. Not to mention the main campaign with a great story, characters and locations in a world where nature has reclaimed Earth after an unknown apocalypse.

Truly an Epic Adventure and Story

Playing this game is a reminder of how much care can be put into one video game. The same way people have become used to the, "summer blockbuster" we too now have this category of video game. Actually considering that Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mass Effect 3 are also out this month I'd say we have multiple blockbusters competing at this time. That all being said Horizon has amazing graphics, interesting and intriguing story, solid game-play, exciting combat and very well defined role playing mechanics. You will recognize all of the execution from all of your favorite Adventure RPG's of the past. Uncharted, Skyrim and Tomb Raider have lent their greatness to this title. I cannot claim to have beaten the title yet; its huge. I'm enjoying every minute of playing this in bite sized chunks each night. You can jump in, get a fill of pure action and story for a half hour to an hour and then save. I will be extremely sad when this game is over.

Fantastic game, wholly fulfilled with this one.

Upon first playing this game, I was taken aback by the beauty of it. The soundtrack, lilting melody in every scene. They spared no expense in world design, as the visuals are overflowing with life and movement. Tall blades of grass blow in the wind, lifting petals from flowers or dirt from rock surfaces. Reflections on shiny surfaces are true recreations of what we see in reality. The water glistening under the sun as you swim around. Its combat system is highly entertaining, what with the option of "corrupting" machines to do your bidding. The story is, without a doubt, one of the best I've seen in science fiction. It's quite the daunting task you're set upon, but a joy all the way through. Side quests feel so attached to the main story, in my opinion they're not side quests at all. Go for 100% completion on this one. You're looking at over 40 hours of gameplay. You'll dream about this game while you're not playing it. Highly recommended.

A true must have for PS4 owners

While this game doesn't exactly do anything ground breaking, it was a first attempt by Guerrilla Games to bring a new open world IP, that's something a little different. And they did a fantastic job. You play as Aloy (Ay-Loy), in a distopian future about 1000 years after the apocalypse that wipes out our generation of mankind. Now nature and Dinosaur like machines rule the Earth, while humans have returned to living very primitive lifestyles and know only stories of the lives of the people who once ran this world with technology and cities and skyscrapers. It's lore you discover on your travels. The game has a lot of your typical open world tropes. But it's the combat against the machines with unique weapons that combine primitive and technological into one, that make the game so unique and rewarding. This is a must have exclusive for any PS4 owner out there.

Horizon Zero Dawn is a fantastic game that takes inspiration from other titles such as Far Cry, and polishes them in a way that makes the game fresh. It's rare for an open world game to have both an engaging story and an engaging world to explore, but I'd say Horizon Zero Dawn accomplishes this without being repetitive. Tallnecks are this game's version of Far Cry Primal's bonfires, but there aren't so many of them that you get tired of doing them. I also found myself doing a lot of side quests more than the story, because a lot of them had little stories themselves that were just as good as the main story in their own right. Strategy toward hunting the various machines is the real fun part of this game though. Figuring out how to beat a machine you've never encountered before, what weapons to use,etc is where this game really shines. Each enemy is like it's own puzzle and it feels really satsifying to figure them out. The negatives: -The tutorial / NPC's will hold your hand a little too much sometimes. It's almost compareable to Navi in Zelda because the NPC's will nag at you if you look around for parts / healing herbs or anything instead of doing what they want. - There's a location in the beginning "Inside All Mother" where you're supposed to hit a vent and crawl through it to find an item that is useful for a quest later. You can easily miss this because everything will indicate to you that you should follow an NPC, and not explore. Explore anyway, because if you don't you're locked out of this area until close to the end of the game. - I kind of wish there were more machines to fight, because after you get far enough in the game you' sort of figure out how to exploit all of them, and I just would have liked a few more tough enemies to discover. Maybe if there's a sequel there could be really unique "epic"" machines to fight or something. -The game uses Uncharted's climbing system, with selective walls you can climb which is okay, but there were times I wanted to climb something I wasn't given the option to, and was disappointed. I think if climbing were more like Zelda Breathe of the WIld (maybe not with the stamina meter though) and it let you explore and find vantage points with climbing it would have been perfect.

A Must-Play Title for Adventure Fans

Horizon: Zero Dawn is the newest game from Guerilla, the makers of Killzone, which made me a little apprehensive at first due to the middling nature of Killzone, but this is a massive departure. With skill trees that lend to being either as stealthy or aggressive as you want to play, just about anyone can embrace the playstyle of their choice as they take down machines and make their way through an engaging story. The combat doesn't take a backseat to the story though, as the higher difficulties really evoke a sense of going on a potentially deadly hunt for some of these robots, so between the great story and combat, range of difficulties, and a New Game+ mode to carry over all upgrades, I can safely recommend this to the vast majority of PS4 owners. My only regret is that an even larger install base won't get to enjoy this game.

I really didn't know what to expect from this game, my friend showed me a trailer of it recently. It looked nice reminded me of Far Cry and Assassin's Creed 3 with the wilderness and what not. I've been playing for a few hours now and the combat is nice! The scenery is beautiful! Get this game now!

One of the best open world games of 2017!

Horizon Zero Dawn is a great buy for any type of gamer. This open world is beautiful especially on PS4 Pro. It runs smoothly with little glitches especially with the new update. They do an awesome job with the parkour system as well as not making the tutorial a pain. It does utilize the bow and arrow system but gives gamers who are more biased towards explosives and guns a chance also. As far as the story it does start of slow, but if given a chance will amaze you and even make you want this to be a movie. Overall pretty great game!

Amazing graphics whether you have a standard PS4 or PS4 Pro. Running this on a Pro in 4K is breathtaking though. I'm also a high end PC gamer, and Horizon Zero Dawn is frankly one of the most beautiful games that I've ever had the pleasure to play. The 4K checkerboard technique used to deliver the visuals looks pretty stunning, so frankly, just enjoy the eyecandy and forget about the technical details. The world itself comes alive. Always something to explore, craft, trade, new mechanical beasts to discover and solve how to take down (adrenaline fueled combat puzzles), and NPCs that are fairly well done on top of that. The combat is top notch to boot, and personally I found Aloy a compelling and engaging protagonist and her story arc is very well told. The additional lore is also fairly interesting, if you choose to explore the nooks and crannies.

    Excellent Open World Adventure

    |
    Posted .

I must confess that I suffer from horrible Open World Paralysis Syndrome. The overwhelming amount of places to go and things to see always eventually leads me to stop playing open world games for games that are more naratively focused, but Horizon Zero Dawn is an excellent example of the genre and certainly worth your time. The setting is excellent and well developed. The story, at least when it focuses on the Old World, is good, and the main character is sympathetic and likable without being super-human. The ranged combat is satisfying with the ability to use traps and a variety of ranged weapons, but the close combat is little more than an afterthought. The game looks great, and is a shining example of what the PS4 hardware can do in the hands of the right developer.

Won't give my copy to my grandson

Game of the year easily. This game makes you think, trying to understand what happened in Earth's past. That past is only a few years into our future. This game creates a whole world unto itself. The graphics are outstanding and smooth. I cannot find any fault in the gameplay. In the game the machines have taken over. They are trying to kill you. They need us for biofuel and nothing else. We need them for parts. The battle is over trying to survive while answering the question. What happened? I told my grandson that when I finished playing the game, I would give him my copy. I had to purchase another copy for him. The DLC comes out in a few months. I need my copy to play that. The day he got his copy, he started playing it. He won't be playing any other game until he's finished this game. That is extremely unusual.

Incredible Visuals, Great Gameplay, Must Own

With Horizon Zero Dawn Guerrilla Games (Killzone franchise) has created what may be the greatest visual experience in gaming to date. Not only does it look great it has an intriguing story, is incredibly immersive and is a lot of fun to play. As Aloy you are tossed into a large open world that feels as exciting as it does dangerous. It has far exceeded all of my expectations and if it continues to be as good as it has been I'm confident it will earn a spot as one of my favorite games of all time. A must play title for everyone that has a PlayStation 4.

    An amazing game.

Unlike many other reviewers I didn't connect with the main character on any level but I didn't need to. The game is amazing in so many ways and incorporates the best parts of many other games I've played and loved. It's a long one too. I read over all the story and listened to all the files and I never skipped a conversation (which is really rare for me). I was intrigued and interested the entire time. You'll be getting your monies worth many times over and with the varieties of things to do you'll not be bored. It's pacing is perfect as you will not notice the gradual climb to beast mode(there is no actual beast mode). Horizon just flows as you get more awesome. Graphically it's up there with the best like Uncharted and Last of Us games. Even a Naughty Dogs lead said they have set the new bar for visual fidelity. It's a must buy and I can't wait for the next.

    A Stunning Surprise

I had no idea that Horizon Zero Dawn would turn out to be a rich RPG that it turned out to be. I had followed the production of the game since it was announced a couple of years ago. I am a fan of Guerilla Games with their previous Killzone shooter series. They have a way of presenting a wondrous future in those games and with Horizon, they envisioned a high-tech future in a way that is fresh and engaging. This open world of Jurassic Park of robotic animals is amazing. You'll find yourself cautiously scanning the land for dangerous creatures, gauging whether or not you should engage them for experience points or attempting to "tame" them so that you can ride them or possibly turn them on the others so that you can make an escape while the others are distracted. With each mission, you are drawn into a mysterious story or Aloy and how the planet ended up as a prehistoric robotic future (it makes sense when you play it). There are human bandits to engage as well and their "bases" present ways in which you can approach. Quietly move in and pick off the human enemies one by one or make a lot of noise and draw them all out at once and even lure them to their demise with a robotic tiger that you tamed and is now your protector. The skill tree is simple and forces the player to carefully decide as to which skill he or she wants to level up depending on what task awaits. It goes without saying that the visuals are remarkable and are even better when the weather effects of snow, rain, or sand storm kick in. There's a lot to do in this game and the map is HUGE which will keep the player for at least 50 hours without becoming tedious. If I had any complaints, it would be that Aloy wouldn't immediately respond when I was desperately trying to lay down a trap while a creature was charging at me and instead would partially attempt to lay it down. Then there were several times where I thought I could climb parts of a mountain wall only to waste several minutes to find out that I wasn't meant to climb the area. This game is a must for a Playstation owner. Enjoy and Happy Gaming.
