Beats Walking
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Growing up in a bicycle era, the only experience I have in this hoverboard wizardry is watching Marty McFly go Back to the Future. Nowadays, you see different variations of these "hoverboards" all over. However not having the best experience skiing or other balance related activities, I had never been drawn to any of these modes of transportation. But there is a different generation out now with a different set of technology, and like any parent, I want the best for my child and love watching her face light up with enjoyment of new things. So when I was given the opportunity to review this latest offering from Hover-1, I was all for it. The Hover-1 Blast Electric-Self Balancing Scooter is an amazing machine. If I had to describe it in three words, it would be simple, fun, and reliable. This hoverboard states that it is intended for children over 8 years old and under 160 lbs. My child is just about to turn 8, is very petite, and unfortunately has her father's sense of balance. This was a concern for me and I made sure that my child was outfitted with safety gear (Helmet, etc) for her maiden voyage, as I knew it was not a matter of if she fell, but when. But there is a key phrase in the name of this product I may have underestimated..."Self-Balancing". Yep. You read that right. There are two pads on the board that sense when a person is standing on the board and then...ta-da! Self balancing. After maybe 20 minutes of confidence building and hand holding, my child was off on her own and wearing the biggest smile I have ever seen. Did she fall? Yes. Did she get hurt? No. To be 100% honest, she only fell once she started to get a little overconfident and attempted to "dance" and do tricks on the board. And even though she fell, she was not deterred as the pure joy of riding this board had her back on her feet and on the board again in seconds. Nobody calls her chicken! After seeing how my nearly 8 year old took to the hoverboard, my girlfriend's newly turned 6 year old wanted to take a turn. Initially, his mother was against it as she thought injury would be imminent. However after seeing my daughter enjoy it, she allowed him to try. And again, after maybe 20 minutes of getting comfortable with the board, he was well on his way and having the time of his life! So yes, this board may say 8 years old or older, however it is easy enough for younger children to ride. Just know your child and their limitations. In the box, you get the hoverboard fully assembled, a proprietary charging cable that plugs into a standard wall outlet, and product literature. Do you need to read the manual? No. This board is so easy to use that you will have no issue learning by experience. For your first use, I would recommend fully charging the board, but it does come with about half a charge out of the box. Charging time has been relatively short for me, never taking more than a couple hours. There is a green/red charging light on the charger that lets you know the status of your charge. The kids have been out using the board for two hours straight without it killing the battery, so I would say battery life is definitely a plus. On the board itself you will only find the charging port and a power button. Simple is nice. It does have some cool lights that really shine around dusk, but they aren't overly visible during the day. Overall, technology is amazing. My daughter hasn't grasped the skills yet to ride a bicycle, but she can zip around on this Hover-1 like nobody's business and has a blast doing it. This board is worth your hard earned dollar.

This one is great for young people
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So when it comes to things like this, I always let the young people give me feedback. I got this for one of my granddaughters, and she gave me feedback quickly. First I'll start with the size. It's smaller than some of the others I've seen, that older people ride. (Also, note this is for people smaller than 160lbs, so most children can ride this with ease.). I know people with regular size devices like this, and it's super heavy to pick up and move around. This one is enough for my 9 year old grand baby to pick up and carry, while it's still a little heavy. She can do it. Learning how to ride it. She actually was struggling at first, but after only about 30 mins...she was able to get her balance, and use it has directed. We bought helmet, knees, elbows, etc. Please wear some gear. She fell a few times, but she is young and was able to get up and get going. I like the cost of this one, as it's affordable to the point where anyone can grab one and enjoy it. Charging time was not too long, maybe a couple hours or so. I wasn't really timing it though. In the end, it may be fun to use...but be careful and stay there with your children while in use. After a while they will catch on, and you will have tons of video to share later on with them.

Excellent kid-friendly value hoverboard
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Hover-1 Blast hits a sweet spot - Less expensive with all the features and ease of use from more expensive boards, but without un-needed frills and limited to speeds appropriate for smaller riders. This was the perfect hoverboard for my 8 year old to learn on, as it is limited to the lower speed and therefore a lower risk of injury for a younger rider, but it was fast enough and accellerated well enough for her to keep up with the older sisters on other similar products for their age group. The board charged easily and worked flawlessly on first run, and charges as quickly as other Hover-1 products we've used in the home. The industrial design seems improved from previous Hover-1 boards we've used, as it seems to have stronger plastics, and a better rubber "foot pedal" area - And the unit is JUST has heavy as some larger hoverboards for big kids/adults. Just because this is a less expensive unit with lower weight limit/range, doesnt mean its not a premium product. I'd recommend this as a starter board for any younger hoverboard enthusiasts.

Fun Toy for Kids, Beeps a lot
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fun. Kids liked trying to get it to do what they want. It keeps balance fairly well. With a max of 7 miles an hour and 3 miles max range, you need to keep an eye on the battery level. With riders approaching the weight limit, it does slow down quite a bit on even a slight incline. Turning takes a lot of getting used to. Kids with more skateboard experience had an easier time adapting to using this scooter. Lights are fun and useful for dusk. And for others to see you. Sounds. Beeps. I heard some complaints that it beeped a lot and couldn't always figure out why it was beeping. From looking at the instructions, it will beep and flash if the sensor sees something in front of the scooter or are trying to go up an incline deemed too steep. For an entry level scooter, I think this is a good introduction to the style and use of this type conveyance. Definitely a neighborhood scooter for the kids to get used to riding and controlling it in a flat hard environment. I would recommend this as a first scooter for kids to learn on, and probably a great scooter for long term use for the lighter/younger kids.

Rugged and Fun Hoverboard
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all this hoverboard is well made and rugged. There are 160 watt motors at each wheel and the weight is on both ends mostly (so you have a 320 watt device). The 3 mile range is very nice and there is a battery icon so you can see when it is getting low. It can go up to 7 mph, but at first it was best to go at a lower speed. The first time riding it is advised to have one foot on the ground, one foot on the hoverboard and one hand on a tree or wall. Once you put your other foot on, you will see that the hoverboard is self-balancing but you will need to gain a little experience so that when you get on you intuitively learn to adjust your weight to operate the device properly, including just standing still. I recommend helmet, knee pads and elbow pads as a minimum for safety in case you fall off. It is also wise to add wrist guards and gloves. Although you may fall at first, you may be surprised how quickly your brain and body figure out how to balance, make turns, back up and of course go forward. These hoverboards are fun and they sure beat walking. This hoverboard works best on sidewalks, driveways and hard surface floors. You can operate on compacted dirt paths or very short grass that makes for a firmer lawn. The sidewalks and driveways were easier. I’d stay off gravel driveways, it was too difficult. Just use paved or concrete driveways and sidewalks. Although there are headlights, there are no reflectors so I’d think riding in daylight is safer and more appropriate. It's a good idea to read the user guide. There are a lot of safety points and also some things to avoid like riding through puddles. Pay attention especially to guidance such as ‘ step on board only if the Running Indicator is green; don’t step on the board if the Running Indicator is red’. There is a lot of great info in the manual. It comes with a charger and a very nice charging port. It does have a 36 volt lithium-ion battery – very nice. There are wheel LED lights and LED headlights which look very sharp to observers. Although it can be used mostly for fun, its solid construction and functionality make it more than just a toy. I do highly recommend this fun and well-built hoverboard.

Great for Kids!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this for my 9 year old son and he loves it!! I have to admit I throughly enjoyed the first couple of days of him learning how to balance on it (and the subsequent wipeouts, they were epic!) however he eventually mastered it and I can barely keep him off it. The range is accurate (3 miles) and it even though my son feels like he’s flying it does go right around 7 mph. It takes about four hours to fully charge it and I usually just let it charge overnight however, like with most battery operated items you do need to pay attention to how long it’s on the charger so that way it doesn’t become dependent on the charger and it will extend the battery life of the Hoverboard. The tires are durable enough. I live in an area where it’s black asphalt and he’s been riding when it’s been hot out and it doesn’t appear to affect the tires that much and with regular sidewalk you so I would believe it wouldn’t have any issues either. I have not tested this on dirt gravel however, it doesn’t look like it would stand up to it all that well so I would recommend avoiding off-roading with it. This is definitely a great gift for any kid that likes to motor around on a hover board. It’s fast it’s fun it’s durable and my son just loves it so I would recommend it for any parent wanting to get it for their kids.

Smoother ride
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Hover-1 Blast Electric Self-Balancing Scooter/hoverboard is great. Kids love it super simple to charge. It comes with the charger needed and has lights in in case you need to use it in the dark. Kids thought it was super cool and it offered a smoother ride compared to other hoverboards they have owned in the past. Battery life is perfect and has beeps to let the rider know if something is going on with the hoverboard. Overall it is a better hoverboard and makes great use for when going out for a walk and the kids do not really want to go out and walk with you, but offer them to ride and this will get them outside. I as a parent love the beeps in case i hear it and know they should not be on it, it gives me a chance to get them before they go crazy with it around the house. The step pads are the perfect size for kids and possibly young adults. The weight limit according to the box is 160 lbs and that is perfect for most people to ride it not just kids. Last words are if you are thinking about it do it just make sure riders wear protective equipment just in case.

A solid starter hoverboard for young beginners
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Children grow up so fast: from crawling, to walking and running, and next thing you know, they're on wheels. As a parent, keeping the little ones active and safe is a constant balancing act. Coincidentally, Hover-1's newest self-balancing scooter is a hoverboard that promotes keeping kids happy, engaged, and most importantly, safe. Unlike some of their other offerings, the Hover-1 Blast isn't very flashy. When turned on, aside from a couple of blue strips of light at the front of the hoverboard and the thin, rainbow patterns on the wheels, this device is an all-black color with no standout features. The center of the board has a battery power light and a symbol indicating whether a person is standing on it. Made specifically for children and individuals under 160 lbs., the top of the board has two, small foot mats to step on and find one's center of gravity. The manual says it generally takes 3-5 minutes to get comfortable on a hoverboard and recommends spotting your child to make them feel more secure. The Blast does not travel very fast. It moves at a steady pace, which is great for children just beginning to learn how to use a self-balancing scooter. My kids are familiar with hoverboards, so this board did feel a little bit underwhelming to them, but it really is the perfect size for kids around their age and size, in the second to fourth grade range. I appreciate the care and safety put into the Hover-1 Blast. The operation manual for the board does a wonderful job with a thorough safety checklist, recognition of local ordinances for use of the device, and details with regard to both passenger safety and machine maintenance and operation. It really does go to great length explaining all precautions and warnings for using the board in order to give you some peace of mind. The Blast comes with a power supply cable which takes about five hours to fully charge. The board can take you up to three miles, but I found that my kids didn't want to really leave the house with this board due to its lack of speed. However, that did not stop them from really enjoying their rides around the house. Overall, it is a great little beginner's board for the little ones and a nice secondary to a more fully-featured self-balancing scooter. The Hover-1 Blast is the perfect option for a parent who wants to introduce their children to hoverboards, and it is a great stepping stone they will use to learn the ins and outs of these devices safely.

Kids love it
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hover-1 - Blast Electric Self-Balancing Scooter is a decent scooter. Great for younger kids as there is a lower weight limit than some other Hover-1 scooters. Depending on the kid, it will work for older teens as well. Weight limit of 160 compared to 220 on others. Not a big deal for my kids. Even though it is a lighter weight limit, the size is basically the same as other scooters. This is a limited thrills scooter with a lower max range of only 3 miles. Quite frankly, I am ok with not having mobile app connectivity, custom lighting, and Bluetooth speaker capabilities. All of that extra stuff seems to be a marketing gimmick and more of a distraction, which is unnecessary when you have your kids scooting around at up to 7 mph. This unit is all black base with lighting on the back and front and cool multicolor lighting on the wheels. There is a nice batty icon on top of the unit to show you when you are running low on battery. Essentially works right out of the box, however I have to ding my review a few stars because the calibration does not work. I am not sure if this model is not suppose to have calibration or if it is just my unit. The quick setup guide indicates that you should be recalibrating before the first ride and after so many times of use. I am the owner of another Hover-1 scooter and understand the importance of this. The instructions tell you to lay the scooter on a flat surface and hold the on button for up to 10 seconds. The recalibration should balance the scooter so that both footings are even and the scooter is balanced. This did not work for me, and I hope it doesn't become a problem in the future. Only time will tell. So far it is working great, and the kids love it.

A Great Starter Hoverboard
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I ordered the Hover-1 Blast Hoverboard for a grandchild to use. It seems to be quite the rage at our local skateboard park and he wanted one in the worst way. The Hover-1 board is rated for children above 8 years of age and wieghing between 44 and 160 pounds. It comes with plenty of warnings about wearing safety gear while using it such as a helmut, knee and elbow pads, closed toe shoes, et al. The Hover-1 Blast has a 3 mile range at up to 7 mph, has 6.5" tires on wheels equipped with LED multi-colored lights, has two forward facing sensor headlights and its battery is shielded for fire and overheat protection. It is UL certified. The Hover-1 Blast arrived fully charged and once the battery is depleted, takes up to 5 hours to recharge. There is a battery indicator located between the two foot pedals that shows the status of the battery's charge state. The two foot pedals have anti-slip pads on them for user safety. Under the footpads are four sensors. The user must stand on both footpads when riding the scooter or may vibrate or spin if weight and pressure are only applied to one footpad. There is a start button located next to the power cord port that must be pushed to turn on the unit. The user must be prepared to step on both footpads at once to start the scooter moving. Good balance is a key and usually comes quickly with repeated use. Kids are generally pretty capable of adjusting to the unit and tend to love using this scooter hoverboard. A safety feature of the Hover-1 Blast is notification of improper use by a beeping sound and flashing red light that goes off if the scooter is used on too steep a slope or encounters an obstruction that lasts longer than 5 seconds. The beeping and flashing will continue until the user stops using the board and resets it by turning the power off then back on. Other hoverboards may offer nicer features, faster speeds and longer distance capabilities. But for the money, this is a very nice starter board!
