Bad Quality Control
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Some of the lights were in-op..then the casing started to come apart. Hover-1 wouldn't fix it because they say it was physically damaged. Then I took it apart to fix and found the battery pack was not secured and one of the screws went in crooked and went threw the led strip...got an exchange and I also had problems with it. With the battery pack being loose could have caused injuries.

A Fun Ride and Well Made
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Hover-1 Ranger is another hoverboard to add to Hover-1’s growing lineup. The Ranger is positioned for first time hoverboard riders up to more veteran riders. The main specs to take note of are its 7mph top speed, 400W motor, and its max weight at 220lbs. These 3 specs will help you determine what sort of range to expect (6 mile max), hills you can climb (10° slope), and overall ride quality. The Ranger makes use of the Hover-1 app and has Bluetooth connectivity, so you can play your music through the Ranger’s onboard speakers. The Ranger also has customizable lights that turn on once you step on the board. The wheels have a rainbow RGB effect that you cannot adjust, but it looks pretty cool. What I liked: - Easy to get started riding - Good build quality - feels very sturdy and well put together - Nice looking and functioning app - Fast enough for me - The different ability levels What I didn’t care for: - The beginner training mode felt too heavy handed for me (worked for my kids) - The proprietary charging connector This is my first time riding any hoverboard. No one in my household has actually ever set foot on one, so it was a learning experience for us all. I started out charging the board per the instructions - I think it took 2 hours to hit a full charge out of the box. The charger used has a red/green indicator light that shows green when fully charged. Unfortunately this charger uses a proprietary connector, so make sure to take care of it, since it won’t be as easy to replace as a DC style barrel charger. Connecting the Ranger to my phone via the Hover-1 app was a little confusing. There is a list of supported Hover-1 models in the app, which makes for quick/easy pairing. Unfortunately the Ranger is not part of the list so you have to search for it via the Bluetooth symbol in the top-left corner of the app window. From here I got it paired easily. If you want to connect to the Ranger for music you have to do that through your phone’s Bluetooth menu, just like you would with a pair of earbuds or headphones. The Ranger has 3 modes that it can be placed in depending on your riding skill - Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert. Intermediate mode gives you access to the full speed of the Ranger (Beginner is torque, and speed limited) while still limiting the torque, so you don’t fly off or spin out of control. Expert mode pulls out the torque and speed limits, and it reduces the amount of self balancing. Out of the box I think it started in Intermediate, but I can’t be sure. I started messing with the Ranger before connecting the app just to fiddle with it and I twirled around my basement area for several minutes. Seeing as though I was new to hoverboards I toggled it to Beginner and tried riding around my tiled basement area since my roads were snow covered from the storm that rolled through. I will be honest when I say that I hated Beginner mode. I am 195lbs so I am towards the top end of the weight capacity, so I wonder if that had any bearing. To me, Beginner felt so restrictive that it was unrideable in my basement. Everytime the wheels would cross a grout line in the tile the Ranger would attempt to rebalance me, which was not what I expected it to do. This unexpected rebalance would throw me off balance and force a dismount. Switching to Intermediate I was able to easily ride around on the tile without feeling off balance. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and once the snow and ice (and water) cleared from the roads I took it outside. I again started in Beginner while riding in a large, flat, and smooth area. The movement felt so studdery and sluggish that I had a really hard time trying to ride and feel balanced. Once I hit a crack or bump the Ranger would attempt to aggressively rebalance me, which in turn caused a dismount due to it being unexpected. I toggled to Intermediate in the app and I set about riding up and down my street working on turns, slalom, and finding a comfortable speed to ride. I think the fastest I have gotten up to is just under 5mph - anything more than that and I don’t feel comfortable yet. I did switch it up to Expert just to give it a whirl, and I found that I liked the extra torque and balancing characteristics. It was easier to slalom and drive around while lightly shifting my weight vs. Intermediate. However, I have had a brush with the dangers of going to Expert without the skills/experience to handle the extra torque. I had a turn that I pushed too hard too fast that caused me to fishtail (?) and nearly got tossed, but I regained control and slowed myself down. For now I will stick with Intermediate until I get more comfortable and experienced. Now I did give my kids a chance on the Ranger. My kids are 7 and 8 but are small for their size (they are the size of a kid a year or 2 younger). I set them up with their helmets and switched the Ranger to Beginner. They had a little trouble mounting the board but after a dozen times they got the hang of it. My son picked it up the quickest but they both started out very wobbly and needed me to hold them to start. Eventually they were able to ride around in the streets long as they avoided any cracks or bumps. For them the Beginner mode seems to make sense and looked to be really beneficial. Both of my kids really liked the lights and music - playing the Encanto soundtrack while riding around really put a smile on my daughters face. Speaking of the sound, I am kind of divided. For the most part, as an adult I see this as a gimmick more than anything. For kids and teens I can see its appeal. The speakers themselves sound fine and could certainly get pretty loud. There isn’t much bass to be heard, so it does sound a little flat. I rode around and had music playing which was nice. That is right up until I had a call come through and I had to figure out how to answer it without broadcasting it to my neighbors. Your mileage will vary on the onboard speakers, but again I don’t think I am the target audience for that feature. Overall, the ride on Ranger has been pretty fun. I haven’t taken any falls and neither have my kids, so it’s going well so far. For me it goes plenty fast enough and I haven’t felt like maneuverability was ever an issue. I like the lights and the speakers, but I also recognize the gimmick aspect of those features. I like the option of the training modes, but I wish the Beginner mode worked better for me. For now I’m sticking with Intermediate, and trying to get better.

Defect
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This overboard is cool but it only worked for one day. Maybe there is a defect in it I'm not sure but it was highly rated when I bought it. I've just got around to seeing if I can exchange it for the same one.

Product malfunctions out of the box.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not impressed! Model: H1-RNGE-GRY H1- Ranger Went with the $179 price tag because I figured it would be better than the $99 dollar cheapest model. The manufacturing company (not best buy) is definitely pricing these items with larger motors at a higher price than they are worth. Out of the box, wouldn’t charge. Seems to be a common problem with many models. Overpriced cheeply made. Definitely take caution as the products life span is roughly six month if that. And replacements are backordered.

An intuitive gadget
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got it during the December 2023 sale for $89. I have to say that honestly, everyone was super excited and had a great time on the tryouts- all 9 users between ages 7 to 40+. 5 kids test rode it and picked up on the balancing in like 3 min flat! Much faster than on the Hover1 Rogue. On the beginner mode, kids enjoyed learning to balance and were zipping around the house and had to slow them down numerous times. It seemed almost too easy for them to hop on it and ride it away. Honestly, we were amazed how fast the 7 yo picked up on it. Waay too quick. As for the grown ups, we were slower than the kids to learn how to balance but got the hang of it very quickly because of 2 main things 1. Self leveling and 2. Lower to the ground 6 inch wheels comapred to a larger 10inch wheel Rogue which needed being used to the height which wasnt too bad either. We bought 2 of these beauties including 2 more 10inch inch wheel Hover1’s and they didn’t disappoint AT ALL. In fact, after attaching the go-kart attachments Hover1’s, the kids had soooo much fun and cant wait to go out or let their friends borrow them. After riding all 4 Hoverboards for around 1.5-2hrs, the smaller ones run out of battery but both of the larger ones (Rogues) still had 20% life remaining. A word of caution though, wear a helmet and pads. The Go-Kart attachments were a hige hit for all kids and grown ups too. It felt like riding a gokart at a race track. Pull a lever up and turn to one side, do the same on the other side and turn on the other side, both levers up to slow down, stop, and reverse- both levers up to go forward- one lever up and the other down to turn in circles or make turns. Super fun to ride them. Overall, we all love, love, love love these Hoverboards. Bluetooth Speakers, good sized kids wheels, and customizable lights makes the kids want to go outside for a “short ride” which was the intention. Highly recommended for all users keeping in mind the weight limit of 260 Lbs

Hover-1 Ranger and Jetson JetKart 2.0 work great
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Hover-1 brand seems to be worth the investment. This model offers full lighting and Bluetooth monitoring. It also includes a nice manual. Only website product support, however, is available. Their Android app includes diagnostics and battery monitoring. Mine shows an intermittent battery fault. While scooting around, you quickly learn when power fail is near. The hoverboard makes the startup tone and then drops out of stable position. The battery will be about 20 percent charged. As a light adult, I use my Ranger with a Jetson JetKart 2.0 attachment. It's a neat experience. The Ranger beeps during travel on inclines or speeds over 6 mph. This indicates a problem, but it doubles as a warning to walkers on your path. The combo runs for about 3 miles with top speeds of 12 mph. The battery current reaches 10 Amps at high speed. Consequently, look forward to a five-hour charge cycle after less than one hour run time. My Ranger got scratched after 15 miles of use. I also destroyed the serial number labels after running the combo after a rain. Put a label in the manual. Better yet, wait for a dry day. Teens and light adults will love the product. It's nicely made and easy to setup. As a bonus, you get a Bluetooth speaker that might work while charging.

Fun for the Whole Family!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought the Hover-1 Ranger Electric Self-Balancing Scooter for the kids, and they absolutely love it! It's easy to use, and the 7 mph speed is just right — fast enough to be fun but still safe. The 6-mile range gives them plenty of time to ride around without constantly needing to recharge. The built-in Bluetooth speaker is a fun bonus — they love cruising around while playing their favorite music. Honestly, even we’ve been using it and having a blast! Great product for both kids and adults.

Not quite Back to the Future but still so much fun
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start right out of the gate by saying that this device is a blast to use. It was meant to be something that my three sons would use, but I ended up enjoying myself. I have three sons, 9, 11, and 13, and I thought this would be something they would have a blast using around the house or out in the driveway/sidewalk. Within minutes my youngest two seemed to get a feel for it and were zipping around the house on it. Setup was a breeze; you just needed to charge up the scooter. There is an easy-to-see indicator light on the actual plug that shows when the scooter is fully charged. You can download an app to your phone, either Android or iOS. The box and manual have an easy-to-use QR code to get you to the correct app in your app store. Then it’s just a matter of launching it and pairing the scooter to your phone. The app lets you change the lights and effects and lets you check speed, distance traveled, and change the mode. There are quite a few safety recommendations in the manual, and you should read it before you try to use it. One of the things that it mentions in the manual, and I noticed after a few minutes of using it, is that it is far easier to use if you can just relax. Overthinking it will cause you to use jerky motions that could cause unwanted movements on the scooter. If you are able to just step onto it like you were walking up a step or curb, it is so much smoother and more manageable—the same thing for when you need to get off. Take a regular step back, and you should have no issues. This was such a fun device that my entire family was able to use. The app is nice and has some neat features. It’s very cool that you can play your music through the scooter and the lights change with the beat. Again, after the initial learning curve, this little scooter is a blast.
