I’ll confess that it’s taken me a while to get the hang of using this, as a 40-something year-old man. Because of relentless snow storms, I’ve only been able to use it outside a small amount, but have been able to use it indoors pretty easily on hardwood floors, and that wasn’t a bad place to learn. The Hover-1+ scooter is pretty heavy, befitting its electric motor and battery. The yellow color is not my favorite, but in combination with all the lights, it will definitely be visible to others, which is important. The build seems sturdy enough but the yellow plastics will probably make wear easier to see. The first thing you need to do is charge the battery. It uses its own proprietary connection, so consider that if you thought it would be some USB variant that you could swap in. While it’s charging, I really do recommend reading the manual pretty thoroughly, as it both helped me get the hang of things easier and got a better sense of the device itself. There is Bluetooth connectivity for both an app and the built-in speaker. Pairing either was very easy and seamless. The speaker is so-so in terms of quality, but what it lacked in fidelity it made up for in volume–hearing it while riding outside should not be a problem. If you’ve never ridden one before–and I hadn’t–there’s definitely a learning curve. I can’t say if 9mph is truly reached (and I am well below its 264lb weight limit) as I’m rather too terrified to lean into that much, but it does get going. You just have to learn to trust your body on it (and do read the manual on how to get on and off) and get that sense of balance (it’s hard, or was for me), but once you do it it’s intuitive to shift your weight to direct it. The manual strongly recommends a helmet and I could see why–I had several less than graceful dismounts. Flat, even surfaces are the best–my sidewalk is bumpy and it could not get over the bumps. So definitely choose a suitable surface, especially for learning. I’ve learned enough riding in my house to build confidence for more outside time once better weather appears. It’s fun, especially once you get the hang of it. I have a lot of nice, wide bike trails around to try it on and look forward to seeing if I can overcome my fears and really get going on it!

    Fast & Stable; POOR Sound

By far, compared to other similar products in the past, the batteries for the Hover-1 Ranger Plus charge incredible quickly, even the initial (first time out of the box) charge. Subsequent charges were exceptionally fast as well. This thing is very fast; I'm sure that I didn't get to the 9 miles/hour top speed, but it was beyond fun and exhilarating! Compared to other products I've used, the Hover-1 Ranger Plus seemed very stable underfoot, which is why I tried getting the speed up higher than I normally would have wanted to. The Hover-1 E-Mobility app was eye-catching and fun to use, though I didn't use it all of the time. Music. I'm very serious about it. I connected three iPhones up to it; it pairs incredibly fast, and with little effort, with no time delay. But the sound quality was terrible. Distortion with heavy bass is expected, but it was distortion across the board, and there would be 'static', the sound would drop out constantly. For me, I wish there would not have been a Bluetooth speaker available; I'd rather hear nothing, versus the poor quality that I witnessed.

I am so disappointed with this purchase my daughter has wanted one for A while and I just couldn’t afford it so it went on sale and I bought one. She was out of town so two days after it arrived she got home and unboxed it and rode it through the house and the left side of the hover board came completely apart! Thank God she was not outside on the road when this happened or she could have been seriously hurt! The package came a little beat up but I didn’t think much of it and it looked ok when I unboxed it. Will be returning tomorrow on my day off. I just hope this was a bad batch.

The Hover-1 - Ranger Plus Electric Self-Balancing Scooter w/9 mi Max Range & 9 mph Max Speed- Premium Bluetooth Speaker - Yellow offers on-the-go music without the 80's Boombox and skateboard! While not yet ready for Marty McFly, this hoverboard will take you places and bring your tunes with you. Connect your Bluetooth device, hope on, and enjoy your ride. I found this hoverboard to be a bit challenging to ride, but it takes practice. I love the Bluetooth option and the serious LED light show this unit puts on helps ensure safety and visibility day or night. The self-balancing feature is nice as with will not run away from you when you turn it on. I am far from a pro a any hoverboard, but have enjoyed learning and will continue to use this one until I get it down. My only recommendation is to offer a handlebar attachment option for beginners like other brands are doing - 5 stars if that was added. PROS - HOVER-1 Innovation and design - LED lights abound for visibility and safety - Self-balancing - Up to 9 mph CONS - Could use a beginner's handle option - Battery seems to die too early and unit stops/shuts off mid-ride.

Ok Hoverboard for the Teenage Set

The Hover-1 Ranger Plus is a two-wheeled hoverboard with 500W of power. Specs claim a max speed of 9mph and max weight of 264lbs. That's great because I'm over 200lbs and not too far from the max! Despite supporting adult weight, this is definitely geared more towards the teenage or party crowd. While the main body is black, it's chock full of colorful accents and lights including bright light-up wheels. For me, the design is meh. Build quality is ok. This thing has plastic everywhere so if ridden outside, expect to accumulate scratches and dings on the surface. Pretty much you're getting the hoverboard, a charging cable/adapter, and instructions. The charging cable is typical 3 prong and there's an LED when the scooter is ON (big button on the back) that gives you an idea of charge level. Green unfortunately doesn't mean fully charged, just charged above 20%. Yellow between 10% and 20% and red for below. The manual recommends not riding unless it's at least in the green. Charge time is about 2.5 hours. If you take the time to read, you'll discover aside from pairing it to your phone as a Bluetooth speaker, there's also an app that gives you some control over the LEDs and experience mode. I highly suggest using it. Riding is about the same as any other hoverboard and not too difficult to pick up if you've never done it before. The motors are decently powerful to move my weight. I don't think it would actually get me up to 9mph, so this would never be something used for transportation and merely just for fun. Given that the wheels are only 6.5 inches with no suspension, going over anything other than minor bumps is out of the question. For children, it can probably develop enough power to go over things, but that also means they can hit the top speeds and I think for someone around 120lbs or less, this can accelerate pretty quickly so plan on a lot of practice to ensure they can handle situations without having the hoverboard fly out from under them. The Bluetooth speakers are ok. Loud enough to be heard, but quality isn't that great. It's definitely not a speaker that people will cluster around to listen to tunes, but for playing music as you tool around, it does and ok job and given that your attention needs to be somewhat on maintaining your posture or balance, most probably don't really notice the sound quality while they're standing still. For me being 6'1", it would be nicer to have a wider area to place my feet. For taller users, the footpads will make maintaining your posture a bit more difficult or tiring. I'm guessing the sweet spot is between 4.5' and 5.5'. I can't really speak on how well the scooter meets it's range claim. However, based on the max speed, that's effectively one hour of runtime at max. Given that I was able to play around for longer than an hour, albeit on more or less flat surface, less than the max speed but carrying around 200+lbs of weight, I see no reason to believe that someone 150lbs or less wouldn't hit or exceed 9 miles of range. That said, if you are planning on using this for a long ride, I'd do some test runs where you go out and back increasing distances to gauge about how much range you need. Or just go all out and be ready to walk back carrying about 20lbs of hoverboard. My suggestions for improvement - wider stance, taller wheels with some amount of suspension, and a bigger battery with more powerful motors for those on the higher end of the weight range.
