A big step in the evolution of Chromebooks.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great example of what a Chromebook should be! I have had quite a few Chromebooks over the years, as a teacher I seem to go through them pretty often. Usually, they are minimal as far as specs go and features are limited, I guess by definition! Chromebooks are supposed to be limited, supposed to be "lite" computers for doing only a few tasks. Chromebooks have had a long time now to evolve and become mature. Luckily, that push to fill their niche has led to the understanding that many users need "just a little more" punch to their computers. I have found several machines that have done a good job at doing that, each one getting closer and closer to allowing me to use them for more and more tasks. The HP Chromebook Plus is a good example of that. It has a great deal of CPU power, lots of storage and a great screen. The back-lit keyboard allows use in dimly lit situations and the touch-pad is very responsive. The ability to wrap the screen around and make a tablet out of it adds to the usefulness. All that is lacking is a stylus and it would rival even my faithful Samsung I used up a few years ago. It is good to see the level of quality that HP has wrapped up in this package, and I can see that it is going to be a great tool to use in my classroom. While an i3 would be severely lacking in any Windows laptop, it seems to really run in a Chromebook. I look forward to putting it through more tests and see how it handles a little more of my day to day workload.

Quick setup, versatile, fun to use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This HP Chromebook laptop is a Chromebook computer with Google AI (artificial intelligence) added on. It’s not the first or only computer out there with AI capabilities. If you don’t want to be tied to the Google environment that working with a Chromebook means in order to get AI capability, you can find Windows-based laptops that also have AI. But if you like Chromebooks and want to also have AI capability, this computer should suit you just fine. Setup is simple as at is with most computers nowadays. Turn it and follow the onscreen instructions to connect to the internet, log into your Google account (you will need one if you don’t have one), etc. Once set up, all of the usual Chromebook features are available. The Chromebook idea is that you work mostly in the web. You use Google programs like Docs for word processing and Sheets for spreadsheets. This makes it easy to collaborate with others in different locations on document creation and so forth. You can also use Microsoft apps like Word and Excel, which are also included on the machine. It is a touch-screen laptop, so you can use the screen as well to do things. I’ve never been a big fan of touchscreens because the screen just fills up with fingerprints, and I find myself constantly cleaning it. But many people like them, so there you go. As far as the AI capability, there is a new button on the keyboard on the left side with a little white circle on it called a “search” button. This activates the AI, you type in a sentence or two of what you’re looking for, and the AI generates a document, answer, finds photos or whatever is appropriate. AI is new, but it seems to be gaining acceptance rapidly. Having AI capability on your computer will likely become more and more standard, and it will be a plus as people realize more and more what AI can do. I have no qualms whatsoever about recommending this computer. It is attractive, comfortable to use, not too big or small, the display is beautiful, and it seems to be future-proof for quite a while. As long as working in the Chromebook/Google world works for you, this computer should work well for you.

An Attractive Alternative Laptop Device
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upon receiving an HP X360 Chromebook for evaluation and review, I immediately unboxed it, plugged it in to charge it up and it began to update itself. It took almost 2 hours to complete the updates at which point it lit up and now displays all of my Google Chrome bookmarks and applications. Since Google Chrome is widely used on PC's and Apple devices, it is quite easy to get used to on the HP X360 Chromebook and I found myself very comfortable and at home with it! While you can't use Microsoft's complete office software on a Chromebook, you can access Office 365 online and use the Office Progressive Web Applications. Of course, Google has its own office-like applications that can be accessed and used to create documents, spreadsheets and other items. If you are into advanced video and photo editing, a Chromebook is probably not for you. Chromebooks do have basic video and photo editing capabilities which may be enough for many users. The reason for buying a Chromebook is typically the cost of the computer which is in the hundreds, not thousands of dollars. The form factor of the HP 360X Chromebook is just like most other laptops. It can be used to play Android and Linux games and Adobe even has photo and video editing solutions. Chromebooks are also used for streaming services. If offline use and storage is needed, Chromebooks may not a good option as it comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Intel's Core 3 chip powers the HP 360X Chromebook and is very responsive. The HP 360X Chromebook, model 14B-CD0023DX is a very attractive alternative to PC and Apple laptops and is a quite affordable computing solution.

Getting Used To Google Operating System
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So our new 2-in-1 touch screen Chromebook is an excellent value for the money. Shipping was very quick. It's light and thin with decent battery life. The touch screen capability is great. Zoom and Facebook video conferencing works very well. Streaming movies are clear and crisp, even fast paced movies and sports. A drawback is the Google Operating System and getting used to it. Thankfully recently I switched to a Google Pixel cell phone and got somewhat baptized in the Google Operating System before getting the Chromebook, certainly different than the Windows Operating System we've been so used to. I have noticed during movies depicting daytime scenes I can't really see the picture well from severe angles or if heavy sunlight is shining on the screen. Set up was easy but waiting for the operating system updates was a bit tedious. And of course like most other lap top / tablet combinations in this price point the audio doesn't go very loud at all so you really have to be right in front of it to properly hear some of the dialogue in movies and when on a Zoom call if the person on the other end is not right in front of their device when speaking. All in all we're very satisfied with this device with the exception of the audio but none the less would recommend it to friends and family looking for a tablet / laptop combo in its price point.

Not as portable as I had hoped
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start by saying that the initial setup WAS NOT INTUITIVE. The only way to set it up is via your Google account login. Yes, I have a google account. But the two-factor authentication I've applied to my account prevented me from logging in and setting up the Chromebook. I had to disable two-factor authentication via another device before I could get it set up. But, alas, I finally got it set up. After that, it does as advertised - gets you online and gets you where you need/want to go. The function row of keys is useful and browsing the Play Store has a lot to offer (I'm an Apple user and still prefer the Apple ecosystem). My main issue is the size and weight. I was hoping this would replace packing both my iPad and Macbook for travel by bridging the gap between "tablet" and "laptop" in one, portable device. Nope. Well, lets' be fair. Yes, it does provide tablet-like features when you want them while also giving the option of Macbook/Laptop-like feel for browsing and typing. But I was hoping it would be lighter weight and smaller than my Macbook and it's not. Maybe the slightest bit lighter than my Macbook but not much. In all, it may find a place in my travel kit but time will tell.
