A great office monitor
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this HP monitor for my office set up and performs really well as a standard monitor. Out of the box, this monitor is super light and thin. The stand base and bracket connect easily and attaches to the back of the monitor very easily. The power cord has good length to it but does have a power "brick" in the middle. The only inputs are 1 hdmi and 1 standard monitor old style input so it works great for office pc's with out independant graphics cards as well. Overall installation and set up is 10/10. The power buttons for the monitor are on the bottom of the panel and are easy to use when turning on or off or accessing the menu. The monitor has no bezel on the sides or top which adds a sleeker look and a better fit on the desk. The monitor output is quite nice. It is a bright display and very clear and quality display. It is just a 1080p panel but does output so well and feels like a higher end display. Overall it has been a great upgrade for my office computer and the 24" display is just big enough to enjoy with out being too big. Love it and recommend for the office enviroment

A basic monitor for basic uses.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.HP’s new monitor sports some nice paper specifications. 1500 nits of brightness and touts a 100Hz refresh rate. The shell of the monitor feels flimsy, it flexes when you try to adjust it, make sure you don't try to tilt it from the top corner. The stand is sturdy but lightweight. The weight savings come from the mostly plastic construction and the lack of any VESA mount and the associated bracing of the screen housing. Additional weight savings come from having the power supply on the cord instead of like most monitors, which do not have a power brick. The power brick for this monitor is tiny, though, so it should tuck away easily. The stand is height adjustable from basically sitting on the desk to 5 1/2 inches off the desk. The monitor does tilt forward and backward, so it's easy to find a comfortable position for it. Input options are limited with a single HDMI and a VGA port (2024?). There is no DisplayPort input, though that should not be a problem at all - the 1080p resolution and 100Hz refresh rate are not going to push a capable HDMI connection beyond its limits. VGA on the back seems like a silly thing to have on a modern monitor, but it does allow you to use a VGA or DVI output from your computer, so it should be compatible with machines going way back in time. The ports are aligned horizontally (sticking straight out of the back of the monitor), which is less than ideal, most monitors now will have their ports set vertically, so there is much less strain on the connection and the monitor looks better from behind. The ports sticking straight out the back means they need to be checked for any cable tension at the connector to avoid easily damaging the port making the monitor unusable. The IPS panel is bright with vivid colors and strong blacks, and the IPS panel has a wide viewable area, it doesn’t get dim when you aren’t looking at it dead on. This size monitor with the resolution at 1080p is the lowest I would use if you’re working with a lot of text. I found the screen sluggish to update, scrolling is not smooth like one would expect from a higher refresh rate monitor. I messed around with the “response time” setting, and it did not improve much, but it did make the text look awful. This is an internet and video watching monitor, gaming is not good here, and there are other options at the same price that would be more appropriate for gaming. There is not HDR support, but with the contrast and vivid colors on this screen, I don't think you'll miss anything. Overall, I would call this an entry-level monitor, for an everyday computer user, you will not need anything fancier. If you intend to play any games more involved than Solitaire, I would look toward a gaming focused monitor; don’t buy this thinking it will do any better because it’s specced for 100Hz, the pokey response time and ghosty picture will be a disappointment. Every piece of hardware is a mélange of compromises, especially when building to a price. I would recommend it for a price conscious basic use scenario of web surfing and watching video.

Perfect monitor, easy setup and adjustment
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a really great monitor. Right out of the box, it worked right away with my computer with an HDMI cable. I was able to easily configure it to be an extension or mirrored display and it switched back and forth seamlessly and quickly. I also found it really easy to adjust both the tilt and the height so I will be able to use it only any desk or surface I want. The picture is also very crisp and clear and the resolution looks great. I was able to use it for gaming with no noticeable image lag or issues. It was also really easy to configure the settings from the buttons on the device and the setup for the settings menu was very intuitive. Brightness adjustment was therefore quick and seamless. It’s also a perfect monitor to use for work meetings so I can use my other screen while sharing this one. Overall, I highly recommend this monitor and it’s the perfect addition to any home office or gaming setup. I forgot to mention above no tools were needed for setup, it was really fast and easy.

Game Changer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What a world of difference the HP Series 5 monitor has made for me in only a short period of time! One of my personal computers is a 14-inch laptop, and while I appreciate the size for its portability, working on such a small screen can sometimes be frustrating. This has been true for me the last few months when I purchased a Cricut machine which I use this laptop exclusively for. The 14-inch screen was not cutting it when utilizing Cricut Design Space to create projects. I needed a monitor that gave me better visibility and allowed me to work more efficiently. This HP 24” monitor has exponentially increased my productivity and enjoyment of using my Cricut to craft and, in general, my computer. Out of the box, the base and stand needed to be connected. No tools were required as HP cleverly manufactured built-in screws that are screwed in by hand. The base is nice and heavy and the screen is very light. The two components complement each other perfectly and provide excellent stability. Within 5 minutes the monitor was assembled and ready for use. Before even turning on the monitor I could not contain my excitement over the adjustable stand. Being able to adjust the height of the monitor is incredible on its own, but HP makes the feature an effortlessly quick and smooth motion that can be accomplished with one hand. Tilting the monitor requires a little more finesse as two hands are required, but it’s just as simple to adjust and another great feature for HP to have included. After plugging in the power source and connecting the HDMI to my laptop, turning on the monitor was surreal. The frameless edge-to-edge screen was immediately and beautifully displaying my laptop’s desktop. The controls underneath the screen, which I appreciate are physical buttons, were easy to find and very comprehensive to use. Other than adjusting the brightness, the monitor was configured to what I was comfortable with. The monitor’s display, resolution and colors are clear and crisp. I turned on Cricut Design Space and was blown away by what I had been missing from using a small screen. The 24” screen gives me more than enough space to work and create without having to shrink the screen or constantly scroll side to side and up and down. When using other programs, it has been very nice using snap screen to have two windows displayed side-by-side with both windows being large enough to display all of their content. The monitor’s low blue light gives me peace of mind as I spend hours staring at the screen, especially when I am in crafting mode. Although the monitor is not intended to be a gaming monitor, I connected my older Xbox One X and the display still looks really good at this resolution. The 100 Hz refresh rate works perfectly fine for me. When using Xbox, the only downside I found to the monitor is that it does not have an AUX port to connect speakers. I have alternative methods of having sound when I play Xbox, so while the lack of an audio port is unfortunate, it is not a critical feature for my intended use of the monitor. If anything, the fact that I can use my Xbox is unexpected and a huge plus. Overall, I am overwhelmed by the quality of the HP 24” Series 5 monitor. Not only has my enjoyment increased when it comes to crafting, but even after a long day of sitting in front of a computer for work, I’m eager and excited to get in front of my computer to complete even the most basic and mundane tasks. It is a game-changer!

A good monitor that outperforms it's price.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First impression: My first impression of the HP 524SH monitor is that it is a well-made, very lightweight 24” monitor. It was packaged well and came with the monitor, the stand, the power supply, HDMI cable, and a quick setup guide. I was surprised at how light this monitor is. HP claims the weight is 7 lbs. with the stand, and I believe the stand is most of the weight. The monitor is also very thin, and it comes with no bezel on three sides. Physical features: Like I mentioned above, the borderless monitor on 3 sides is very attractive and provides more visual area that’s normally covered by a bezel. On the back, there is a security cable slot, power connector, a power light, an HDMI connector, and a VGA connector. While some people think the VGA is a wasted connector, I disagree. There are still computers and machines that have VGA ports. And servers are still being made with VGA ports. There are 4 buttons on the bottom right: A power button, an OCD menu button, and 3 OCD menu navigation buttons. The power button and OCD menu buttons are separated from the 3 navigation buttons, which makes it easy to feel your way around the buttons. Performance: This monitor is a budget monitor yet performs much better than many other monitors at this price. The display is very bright, and the colors are very rich. The monitor’s brightness is rated at 300 nits, which is standard. But with the rich colors and the anti-glare screen, it performs like it is a higher level. I tested this monitor during the day in a room that has direct sunlight. It’s a bright room, and some monitors are more difficult to see. But this monitor is easy to see, even in that bright room. Also, this monitor is very responsive. It is not a gaming monitor, not even close. Yet when I tested a drone simulation on it, it performed great. The monitor kept up with the speed and rapid shifting of the video. Now with a serious game, this monitor would not keep up. But I have monitors that cannot keep up with my simulations. When using it as a regular monitor, again, it works great. When using Excel and Word, the text and lines are very clear and crisp. The colors are accurate, and it is enjoyable to use. This monitor also comes with a key feature called the HP Eye Ease technology, designed to reduce eye strain due to extended use. I haven’t used this monitor yet for an extended time, but as an IT engineer, I spend most of my day in front of monitors. So, I am looking forward to seeing how that technology helps me. Specifications: • Display type: IPS • Display features: On-screen controls; Anti-glare; Height adjustable; HP Eye Ease • Onscreen controls: Management; Information; Exit; Input; Color; Image; Power; Menu; Brightness+ • Native resolution: FHD (1920 x 1080) • Resolutions supported: 640 x 480; 720 x 400; 800 x 600; 1024 x 768; 1280 x 720; 1280 x 800; 1280 x 1024; 1440 x 900; 1600 x 900; 1680 x 1050; 1920 x 1080 • Contrast ratio: 1500:1 • Brightness: 300 nits • Pixel pitch: 0.28 x 0.28 mm • Response time: 5ms GtG (with overdrive) • HDMI Port: 1 HDMI 1.4 • HDCP: Yes, HDMI • Sustainability Impact: Low halogen; Outside box and corrugated cushions are 100% sustainably sourced and recyclable; 85% post-consumer recycled plastic; 5% ocean-bound plastic • Energy efficiency: EPEAT® Gold registered • Power supply: Input voltage 100 to 240 VAC, 50/60 Hz • Dimensions (W X D X H): 21.09 x 1.33 x 12.42 in • Weight: 7.61 lb Conclusion: I really like this monitor. It’s a good size, has really nice visuals, and an adjustable stand. It is a pleasure to use, not overwhelming, and does a great job in a room that’s bright with direct morning sunlight. This is going to be my regular use monitor in that bright room, and I’m planning on buying two more for that room to replace older monitors that don’t handle the room’s brightness.

Good, but could be better.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This monitor is good overall. It doesn't really excel in anything but it's not bad. The colors and vibrancy are pretty good. I'm no professional so I couldn't tell you about the color accuracy, however, they look good to my untrained eye. I use it in an office facing away from the window. I tried it facing the window and the reflection of light made it hard to see the screen so I wouldn't recommend using it facing a window. The bezels are extremely thin so having two of them side by side should be nearly seamless. That being said, it is not VESA-compatible which is truly unfortunate. Any modern monitor should be VESA compatible, and this is no exception. If you like the stand it comes with and don't plan on moving it around that should be fine, but if you don't then there's not much you can do. The resolution is fine for office work, homework, and gaming. I found if I enlarged the text, it looked pretty good for reading and I had minimal eye strain. I would recommend doing your research on the resolution to make sure this is something that will work for you. I appreciate the refresh rate being 100Hz and the option of using HDMI or VGA is nice as well. Overall, not bad but definitely not my top choice.

Great monitor for desktop or laptop use at home
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great monitor for desktop or laptop use at home. I really liked how small the stand is compared to some others I have used in the past. I personally have fallen in love with this monitor. the box it came in was high quality. None of the components were at risk of being damaged. The instructions were very clear and simple to understand. I had the monitor attached to the stand that it comes with within 3 minutes of unboxing. The screen is good. I have not found anything annoying about the image quality. I can clearly read text in my email or web pages. The responsivity of the monitor is also on the high side. I do not see any mouse trails. I tried this monitor out with some games and they were playable. It was not easy to get the contrast correct on this monitor when playing video games. I was happy with the image quality when watching videos though. I would very much would recommend this monitor to anyone who does not game. If you intend to mainly use this monitor for gaming I would stay away. Other than that It is a great simple monitor to set up and within no time you will be on your way.

Good monitor for the price.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This monitor is a great monitor for the price. The colors pop and the brightness is good. The stand looks great and it has a little slot in the back that you can slide your cords into to keep them out of the way and off of your desk. The HP monitor has 2 inputs HDMI and VGA. The control buttons are located on the bottom of the monitor and not the side so everything is easy to access and adjust. The bezel is pretty small on top left and right with the bottom having about a half inch bezel where the stand connects. The power cord comes with a power brick, so that could be a plus or minus depending on how you access it. I am only removing 1 star because there are no areas in the back where I can mount it to my 3 monitor mounting system. The other 2 monitors I have have a similar mounting system as a television where you can remove 4 screws, place the mount and then slide the mount on the display arm. This doesn't have that option and I feel like all monitors should at this point. Good monitor, great price, unless your planning on mounting it on a desk mount, then you're likely out of luck.
