Customers are saying

Customers recognize the 31.5" IPS LED FHD Monitor's large screen size and ease of use as significant advantages, frequently praising its setup and value for the price. Positive feedback also highlights the clarity and resolution, along with the inclusion of HDMI and VGA ports. However, some users noted the lack of built-in speakers and a 60Hz refresh rate as drawbacks, while others expressed mixed opinions regarding the stand and its suitability for gaming.

Unit had damage to front and also arrived with no power supply. Spent >4.5 hours on phone with Best Buy customer service and got nowhere. Product has good value for the price, but is not of high quality. If it arrived with all the parts, wasn't damaged, and was provided good customer service I would have given it 4-5 stars.

BIG, bright, crisp, clear home office monitor

First thing, this is a BIG monitor! If you are looking for a decent size monitor for viewing pictures, web browsing, streaming movies and videos, then this is it. It is BIG. It arrived neatly packaged in the hp branding box including the metal ring stand, power brick, HDMI cable (nice), and the quick start directions and the usual product notices. It was simple to unpackage and even simpler to set up. Not really a need for the quick start instructions. Simply screw the ring stand into the arm with the easy to twist screw, slide the arm onto the monitor back, plug in both the HDMI cable and power brick cable, place the monitor and boom you’re off. The monitor aesthetically is very pleasing…. 31.5“of viewable screen surrounded by a thin .5” bezel on the top and sides. The bottom has about a full 1” bezel with the hp branding and home for the power button and 4 other menu/adjustment buttons. The buttons are positioned out of sight on the bottom of the screen. The bottom of the monitor is the thickest, I’m pretty sure to house all the electronics involved in making it work, the rest of the monitor is very thin making it extremely lightweight for its size. There are 3 video inputs on the backside (2 HDMI and 1 VGA) and the power input. There are no built-in speakers, which would have been nice, and no mounting points if you are wanting that. The included metal square ring stand is simplistic but adding a modern looking touch and not taking up much desk space at all while also allowing the screen to tilt forwards and back slightly. Upon powering the monitor on, it automatically detects the input and sets itself to its natural or default setting. It is very bright and crisp! For the size of this monitor and being a full HD (1920 x 1080) at 60hz, it is very clear and crisp. There is slight pixelation but that is expected for the specs given and you only really notice it if your focused on that aspect or sitting terribly close… but it’s a 31.5” monitor so… The colors look good to me (blacks are deep and dark, contrast is acceptable, and all the tones are there. The menu has several different modes that should appeal to anyone’s preference. Text is large and easy to read but can be fine tuned to your liking via the ClearType Text Tuner setting in the control panel of your pc. The screen is easily viewable at almost the most extreme angle and has little to no glare or reflections in low light or a sunlit room. I have used this monitor in almost every application I can think of and have yet to be disappointed in its performance. I’ve played some simplistic games, nothing hardcore which pushed the limits of the refresh rate, so for what its worth, the monitor performs great for me in games making them enjoyable with the large screen. Movie streaming and watching online videos is awesome! This monitor is great for escaping to a serene spot in the house to watch movies when all the TVs are occupied by the family. Web surfing and general office work is a breeze with the clear large screen. For the price point and sheer size of this monitor, you can’t go wrong. Great for the family desktop, home office, streaming, and occasional busy game.

This monitor is bad even for a heavily discounted price of $170. I knew text will be blurry on 31.5 inches at 1080p. But I was not ready to have dithering on both color and grey halftones. I guess it's some kind of cost-saving for cheap LCD matrix. After a week of usage, I gave up. It's beyond HP standards.

Don't buy open box items. If someone opened the box and then returned it there is probably something wrong with the item. I got a monitor this way and there are some weird vertical lines on the screen, super annoying.

I am not using this as a gaming monitor and I would suspect that one might want a higher resolution monitor for gaming. With that said, this is a very solid performer for a work, browsing, everyday use monitor. Let's start with its aesthetics. This is a very nice looking monitor for any desktop. The stand is attractive and it is almost an edge to edge monitor with very little space wasted. The screen is nice and bright and it refreshes very well for everyday use. I have it set up in a three monitor configuration and the other two monitors are 4K 28" monitors. It took a while for me to become accustomed to this with the resolution differences, but I have found that it works really well for multiple programs due to its sheer size. I can have my Skype, email and telephony applications all running on my middle screen and they all fit and look great on the display. I believe that HP is marketing this display as a cost-effective monitor and it fits the bill very well. There are a lot of great features with this monitor that won't break the bank. For home use, it will serve you very well. It's important to realize that this is a 1920 x 1080 display and it is very large. Items will appear large on the monitor. The best look was setting it at 100% at its native resolution. On a final note, the monitor is nice and sleek. The stand is also very sturdy and attractive. This looks great on the desktop.

The colors are great but the resolution is not high enough for a 32" monitor. The screen is extremely reflective. Watching videos works well but it doesn't work well as an office monitor. Letters and lines are very granular.

Good for basic computer needs, not good for design

Pros: This monitor is huge - bigger than I pictured it would be! Set up was easy - the stand just clicks right in and you don't even need a tool to screw in the base. It has a nice range of tilt. It is very, very light - I was amazed, it weighs almost nothing. Comes with an HDMI cable and worked perfectly right out of the box. The bezels are slim and overall it is a very attractive monitor. Cons: (And only barely a con, my own fault for buying the wrong thing.) I thought this was a UHD monitor and it is not, it is only 1080p. NOT high enough resolution for my use: graphic design. The text display was jagged and colors somewhat soft. I were using it for basic emailing/spreadsheets/facebook/netflix this is a perfectly fine monitor. I just cannot recommend this for high end design or video/photo editing. I returned it for a different UHD/4k monitor.

I love the HP 31.5 Full HD Monitor. I think the size is perfect; at first, it appeared to huge compared to my Asus 27 inch. However, after a week, it so natural. The screen is bright and sharp, and all the ports make it great for many applications. Set up took about a minute, so easy, and fast. I did not even have to play with all the settings, as it was great out of the box. Yes, you can spend more, and maybe get more, but for almost everyone with a desktop, this is a perfect monitor, that won't break the bank, and you will be happy with this HP. The only thing left is for me to add that second monitor.
