Good monitor, but...

Functional, Minimalist, Easy-on-the-Eyes
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Over the years we’ve been heavy users of HP PC’s, monitors, printers, & laptops for both home & business. Overall, we’ve enjoyed good value from HP & a consistent record of performance, dependability, & durability across our many HP devices. Although I’ve enjoyed my older HP 27f IPS LED Widescreen, it’s now almost 6 years old. So, I was ready for a newer HP monitor & was excited to evaluate this new ‘Series 5’ monitor. After just a few days’ usage, I can say that I’ve already noticed less eye fatigue while enjoying a little more vivid display. To begin with, I didn’t think that an extra 4.5” in diagonal screen size would be that noticeable. But the difference was immediately apparent when I played one of my all-time video favs shot in HD way back in 2009-2010—the classic Wingsuit BASE Jumping—The Need 4 Speed: The Art of Flight w/immortal martial artist Bruce Lee narrating the intro & a perfectly matched musical accompaniment by Hybrid w/their classic “Disappear Here”. Moving up from a 27” LED to a 1/6 larger screen at 31.5” in Full HD (while admittedly not FHD+) along with moving up from a 1k-to-1 contrast ratio to an arguable 3k-to-1 contrast ratio & a 100Hz refresh rate vs. the previous 60Hz—all made a difference. Oh, and no more shuddering when I’m scrolling. As a bit of a minimalist, I do like the look of this sleek, clean black rectangle now sitting atop my height-adjustable electric standing desk. The design profile of this monitor is simple, thin & light & aesthetically pleasing from every angle. On the back side are 2 HDMI 1.4 ports & a 15-pin VGA connector. As many hours as I spend in front of my monitors working on projects, I’m grateful for HP’s anti-glare & Eye Ease feature w/Eyesafe certification to help limit the amount of blue light I’m exposed to. Although I try not to work on my computer for at least 1 full hour before bedtime, I can’t say that I’ve noticed any improved sleep with this display, but I have noticed a little less eyestrain at night. Overall, this is a pretty standard monitor which is suitable for home use or small business owners like us. It looks good, but the specs aren’t noteworthy, much less exceptional. It gets the job done but it’s not a performance monitor, & I wouldn’t use it for gaming or digital video editing. It’s functional, but not special.

Excellent Affordable Large Monitor
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The HP Series 5 532sf monitor (Product number 94F50AA) has exceeded my expectations, and due to the price point for its size, I can give it 5 stars, albeit with a couple of reservations (see "cons" below). Pros: - Awesome 31.5" screen size - VA picture quality is great, clear and crisp, and colors look darn accurate to me. - I was unsure about a VA type monitor (instead of IPS), but I now have no misgivings due to the display quality. - Wonderful contrast ration of 3000:1. Blacks look fantastic and deep on this VA display. Much better than IPS. - I am not a gamer, but the 7 ms response time is fine for my purposes. - Fantastically bright picture (~300 nits). I actually had to decrease the brightness setting - even in a bright sunlit room. - Speaking of settings - they are easy to make - even without a user's manual (see "Con" below). - HP recommends to download their "Display Center App" in the Microsoft Store. I don't like cluttering up my PC with superfluous apps and programs, but I actually like this simple app. - The app allows you to make adjustments to the display in a very intuitive fashion without using the typical menu buttons on the bottom of the display. - The app also worked for some of the functions on my older monitor I now use as a second display and that is nice. - Excellent and smooth physical adjustability for tilting and (no raising/lowering or side to side rotation however) - Slim, lightweight design which physically looks nice - Decent cable management (but not awesome compared to another monitor I own) on the back side - Very nice and sturdy packaging - 2 HDMI ports and one included HDMI cable. One VGA port - Toolless installation Cons: - Power connection has a "brick" transformer which is very annoying. All my recent non-HP monitors are powered by one cable without a brick. Why can't HP do the same in order to reduce under the desk clutter? - No display port connection. For this price, perhaps that is to be expected, but it would have been nice if there was one. - No USB hub connectivity. "Would have been nice" as above. - No speakers. I would never listen to monitor speakers for anything important, but "would have been nice" as above. - No VESA mounting - As of this writing, there is no full PDF users guide that can be downloaded from the HP web site. The quick setup guide / pamphlet is included in the box and can be downloaded. - 1920 x 1080 resolution is acceptable but would love to see something higher on a 32" display. But again, perhaps acceptable, given the size/price of this monitor. So overall, I am pleased with this monitor. It looks good in my home office. The smoothness of the adjustments is fantastic and the picture quality is quite nice and it has excellent brightness. I do hate that power brick, and would hope for just a tad more resolution, but at this price I don't think you can't go wrong with this big monitor with a nice picture and deep blacks.

I can't really think of anything I don't like
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After using this monitor for about a week, I have to say that there's not really much I don't like about this monitor. Like, it could be better if the stand allowed for the monitor to swivel and rotate, but even that feels a bit nitpicky since the panel is the size of a small TV. The screen size is really nice for my primary monitor. Text is large without adjusting the scaling, and I can read small text in games without straining my eyes. It's also nice for programming and word processing. The framerate is decent (the monitor goes up to 100Hz), the color is good as well. I also like how it's able to be controlled by the HP Display Manager program over the HDMI cable - I can switch the display to Night Mode or change the brightness with a click rather than fiddling with the buttons on the monitor. Speaking of which, I am glad that the buttons are separate rather than combined into some weird button plus D-pad thing. One of the other things that I really like about this monitor is that it's very versatile. It's a "standard" resolution of 1920 by 1080 rather than 1920 by 1200, which is good for compatibility with some older games. It also comes with a VGA port and two HDMI ports, which is incredibly nice since I tend to have multiple computer systems to keep tabs on but lack the space for a bunch of monitors everywhere. Aesthetically, the monitor is nice as well. I like the power light being white rather than an annoyingly bright blue, and the sleep light being orange rather than blinking is also nice. I'm actually really fond of the stand - the way that it's a sort of ring looks nice, and I've been using it to do things like keep batteries from rolling away. The fact that it's got a cable channel on the back to pull all the cables together in one spot is also nice, since it avoids the problem of wire spaghetti. I'm also a fan of the thin bottom bezel not wrapping around the whole monitor. Overall, it's a really good monitor, and I rather like it. It's versatile and nice to look at, and I really appreciate the night mode. I'd definitely recommend it, as long as you have the desk space.

Amazing value for everyday use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The HP 31.5 VA LED FHD monitor is an amazing computer monitor that has a tremendous amount of real estate to do anything that requires a big screen. The size to price ratio of this monitor is insane. Using this monitor for anything graphics related such as AutoCad, TruMotion, and Sketchup is just amazing. The immersive experience of this monitor while gaming is just crazy. In my spare time I use this monitor to stream from Youtube TV and Netflix. As for multitasking, having a monitor this large just makes it super easy. The monitor has two HDMI inputs and a VGA input so connectivity should not be an issue. Although this is not a 4K monitor, it is surprisingly very clear and awesome color reproduction. Nothing I have used so far shows major pixelation. The other amazing thig about this monitor is the size. You would think that a 32 inch computer monitor would take up a lot of space on your desk. This monitor is crazy thin. 75 percent of this monitor is probably as thin as a school notebook. The bottom quarter of the monitor is the size of 3 school notebooks. It is just ridiculous of how thin this monitor is and does not take up half of your desk.

Fantastic
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This monitor exceeds my expectations. Easy set up and a cord pass through behind the stand to keep things tidy. After set up I downloaded the HP Display Center which allows many customizations. In the Input tab for instance, you have the ability of switching from the default of 65hz to 100hz refresh rate. Super fast motion. Movies, games etc.. work great. I use this display mostly for music production so the larger real estate allows me to see so much more of my recording software. I have this connected to a HP desktop for my use. There are 2 HDMI ports so you easily connect another monitor for display transfer. There is 1 VGA port. FreeSync AMD adaptive to change refresh rate to match your needs. Anti glare easy on the eyes blue light filter. This is a very thin stylish looking monitor. Adjusting the tilt of the display is very easy. HP includes the HDMI cable and the packaging is over the top. Very well protected as mine was shipped to me. I am very pleased with this product. I have always enjoyed using HP products in general with very little issues. I would definitely recommend!

Super thin and HUGE
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In the box is the monitor, power plug, HDMI cable, monitor stand and a quick start guide. First impression - This monitor is huge and I am loving the super slim frame. I own quite a few monitors but none of them are this thin. I would also like to mention that when I took the monitor out of the protect foam bag, I notice right away that my hand prints were on the screen. (I constantly wash my hands and apply hand creme, so my hands can be a little oily at times.) The monitor has 2 HDMI ports and 1 VGA port. The buttons for power and the menu settings are on the right side and there is an indicator light that is white when on and amber when in sleep mode. The stand allows you to tilt the monitor but it does not go up and down. On the bottom left side of the front of the monitor, it says 100Hz (the box states 100Hz refresh rate), 3 sided borderless, tilt, low blue light and 31.5 diagonal length. This is great for me because I am constantly looking at a screen and I am definitely going to switch this out with one of my monitors in the home office. The quick start guide says that the maximum resolution is 1920 x 1080 @ 100Hz. When you manually turn on the monitor-the setting will be set to 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz and the input is automatically set to auto-switch input as on. The monitor will be able to detect the device that is plugged in and turned on (power save option). The visuals on the monitor is pretty good with the included HDMI cord. I was able to watch videos and use it for work and I love how big the screen is. There is an app for the monitor that is in the Microsoft Store that will allow you make changes to the settings or you can use the buttons on the bottom of the right side (front) of the monitor. I ended up using the buttons on the monitor more because I love how there are arrows and check marks to assist with moving around in the settings menu to adjust the settings. I normally don’t adjust settings on a monitor, so I am learning the different items in the menu. There is a blue light setting which is also new to me and you will definitely notice a change in the view. I would also like to note that when I watched videos, the sound went to my laptop. Overall, I am very excited to have a newer larger screen and I am definitely impressed with the design because there is a bulky back. I would definitely recommend this monitor to friends and family.

Nice Size. Does What it is Supposed to Do.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The striking thing about this monitor is its screen size which was a definite upgrade from my 27 inch prior one. I am not sure if I have the settings correct but the display tends to be where you can see the pixels far more than on the 27 inch I used to use. Colors are nice and screen is vibrant, however. I use this monitor as a second screen to a laptop and it works well. I did like the cover on the bottom support that can be removed that will allow cables to be fed through to mostly hide them. Nice touch. No real adjustability on the height or angle of the monitor, however. Screen resolution shown on my system was 2560x1600 using it as a second screen for my laptop. I do not see any major downsides to this screen and past hp monitors have proved to be dependable for some time. There are, however, no major positives that grab my attention to recommend over any other similarly sized monitor. The lack of height adjustment is a buying factor to consider. What you assemble is all you get.

HP Got It Mostly Right.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have to say this HP Series 5 monitor is much better than I expected it to be. In the past I've not had the best of experiences with display made by HP so my expectations for this one were not all that high to begin with. Well, I'm happy to say this Series 5 display lived up beyond my expectations. The first thing that struck me was how colorful and bright the monitor was. Only two things kept it from being a solid five out of stars out of five stars resulting in my only giving it four out of five. The first thing that I dinged it for is the resolution. For me a monitor of this size (31.5 inches) should really be a 4k display. With a canvas of this size being a full 4k display would have kicked this one out of the park. That being said I'll point out that while being reasonably sharp at a distance when you have it setup on your desk about two feet from your eyes there are several instances where it easy to see the lack of pixels. Motion shows no lag or streaking and color accuracy seems pretty much on point. Not good enough if you need solid color accuracy but perfect for light office work or movie watching from a distance. If that is your need then you are good to go. The other thing I dinged it for is the power cable and brick. Now this is not so much something specific to this display but rather a general complaint. See, the power cable goes from the plug to the brick. From the brick to the monitor you use a separate thin cable to a barrel plug on the back of the display. I don't like this type of connection nor am I a fan of thin power cables. Again this is more of a "me" thing and your feelings my be different but I felt it worth mentioning. Packaging is excellent and I applaud HP for including a HDMI cable in the box. The stand installation is a little complicated but once done it is a handsome looking setup and I'm happy with it. Overall you really cannot go wrong with this monitor if you don't set your expectations too high.

Bigger is better!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.HP - 31.5" VA LED FHD 100Hz Monitor (HDMI, VGA) - Silver & Black This monitor comes in a very sturdy box that protects it in shipment. The exterior of the box contains a bit of useful information: • 80.1 cm, 31.5-inch Diagonal Monitor • Low Blue Light • Recycled Materials • Works With Chromebook Once the box is opened, you’ll want to orient yourself with all the various components which are in separate compartments. Locate the Quick Setup Guide and you’ll find instructions for assembling the monitor stand and the cable organizer. The organizer slides onto the back of the monitor and the stand attaches to the organizer. No tools are required in the assembly since the single screw needed has its own built-in tool to tighten the screw. (That’s certainly a nice touch.) The cable organizer allows you to thread both your power cable and either your HDMI or VGA cable, depending on which cable you’re using to connect the monitor to your computer. And, if you have an external camera, that cable could also go inside the cable organizer. Attach one end of the connecting cable to the back of the monitor and then attach the other end to your computer. Then, after you’ve plugged in the monitor’s cables, turn the monitor on using the power switch on the bottom of the monitor and you’re in business. I suspect that, like me, you’ll be amazed by what you see when compared to what you previously saw. When it comes to monitors, bigger is certainly better. When you connect this one to your computer, you won’t find yourself squinting or reaching for your reading glasses. Your eyes will certainly thank you! Highly recommended.

Good Value Monitor
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Monitor has a very slim/ thin upper area with a thicker bottom portion. Seems almost too thin to be real, but it is. This will not win any fashion statements, but is a nice looking monitor with practical stand for a wide range of adjustments. The stand is very sturdy and the monitor sits well on a desk without it feeling unstable. Supposedly, it is made from recycles materials so it is somewhat environmentally friendly, if that is important to you. Screen is somewhat shiny with a matt looking finish, so there was not a lot of glare, but there was some from the lights. The brightness was very acceptable at half way setting. I think its 31.5inch size was good. I had thought about a bigger monitor but, this was a good practical size. Using it to watch YouTube and play some games was more than adequate, but I do wish it had sound. You will have to get a sound bar or some sound device to go with the monitor. My computer has 'sound' but its like an old squeaky toy ! The connections on the back are straight forward and accessible. I do not like the menu buttons as they were small and hard to press from their under front edge location, but they were functional. Overall, its a nice monitor for everyday use for videos and some gaming. Games run smoothy and its not harsh on the eyes. Wish it had speakers and a camera.

Large, High Quality FHD Resolution HP Display
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The HP Series 5 532sf 31.5" FHD VA LED Monitor, which is incredibly slim and lightweight (though it's a little wider down the bottom where the connections are), has impressive video quality (notable on streaming video) and delivers a better video-watching experience than my higher resolution (WQHD) monitor. Part of the reason is that it's a bigger screen, though it's mostly because of the contrast and black levels. It also features an easy-to-assemble stand that can tilt to your preference quite a bit. I had read that VA LED displays tend to be both higher quality (when viewed directly from the front) and lower quality (when viewed from an angle), but from what I could tell in the room I’m in with this monitor, I'm getting high-quality views from most viewing angles (unless I went far to the side and looked at the screen). If you do software development or anything where you need to fit a lot of text on the screen, you may want to keep an alternate higher-resolution display available - but for me, this will work well as a second display (using a USB-C to HDMI connector I purchased at Best Buy). For example, I'll use it for things like watching videos or having a 2nd screen during online meetings. I found it helpful to keep one FHD screen like this connected and accessible for when I do remote meetings and want to share a screen. Whenever I share my WQHD screen (my other monitor), people in the meeting can complain that everything looks "too small to read" on their end, so this screen size/resolution (if I share the screen) should help reduce meeting complaints (tested this in a meeting, and yes it’s true). Set up as a second display, I am also now able to share a screen and view video of the attendee(s) at the same time with this setup. As per if I recommend it, it depends on your needs. Normally, I would recommend having at least one higher-resolution display for people like me who do a lot of coding (wanting to fit more in less space). However, for video, for people who need larger screens (vision issues, like me who wears prescription eyeglasses), or for people who want to maybe enjoy streaming videos or video games, I would recommend this HP monitor. I am writing this review on two different HP monitor models, so obviously I can recommend the brand because I use them for displays, computers, and printers.

Big Big Monitor But Meh Display
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second large HP monitor (but 5 inches bigger), and I expected a similar appearance when I installed it on the same PC as the first monitor. But this 532sf is less sharp and the colors less vibrant. I experimented with all the tweaks for brightness, sharpness, color etc. and even played with the tweaks available for the PC graphics itself and just couldn't get what I thought would reflect the technology (and the price) that this monitor possesses. I noticed that either the box or the setup flyer referred to something in the way of "TV" so wondering if that might be it's best purpose. It is thin and lightweight, with the ability to easily tilt the screen down a bit towards you. The edge frame is only about 3/8" wide around the front surface. It only took 5 minutes to put it together and plug it in. It came with a power adapter which looks very much like the ones HP laptops use, and an HDMI cable. Overall this is a decent monitor, lightweight and nimble for it's huge size. I guess I am spoiled by the quality of the displays on things like my Surface and my chromebook.

HP Basic Monitor
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are a gamer this is not the monitor you have been looking for keep going. This is a 32" VA panel with 1080p resolution. The PPI is less than desirable at this resolution and screen size. No Vesa Mount so you have no options for arm or wall mount. The stand is fine nothing fantastic or terrible about it. On the back you've got 3 connection's 1xVGA and 2xHDMI. Don't see many VGA monitors now a days but here is one if you are small demographic this is targeted at. This will take a console over hdmi but remember its only 1920x1080 and its a low refresh rate at 60 hz as well. The colors are what you would expect on a VA panel, no surprises awaiting you here. You can make the usual color corrections in the menu along with brightness, contrast etc. I don't like the HP proprietary power supply plug, its one more thing if you lose the power brick you are going to have a bad day trying to find another one to replace it. The cable management on the stand is decent so that's a plus. Overall it's an average looking monitor with an average amount of features. Biggest determining factors for 3 stars is no vesa mount and terrible proprietary connections.
