This laptop is a good value if you are willing to be patient and aren't expecting a like new item... Packaging: The laptop arrived in a brown box labeled “Microsoft certified refurbisher”. Inside the box was the laptop in a sturdy protected bubble case, a yellow package which had the charger, and handout papers such as receipts, warranty info, and a “get started” sheet. The laptop was sealed in shrink wrap which was a nice touch but there were a bunch of little rubber crumbs sealed along with it. Physical appearance: As expected, the laptop arrived in refurbished condition. There were signs of wear including scratches, scuffs, and fading areas. On the bottom there are 4 rubber molds that help keep the laptop from moving on a surface. This laptop had two original molds and 2 “replacements” that seemed made from scratch. 1 of the replacements immediately came off upon opening so I had to put it back on with some glue. This was a nice gesture however and better than leaving them unreplaced. The left side of the screen does not sit flush with its housing and seems to bulge out a bit. The side areas had the most wear around the ports which wasn’t too surprising. Everything considered, this wasn’t too bad and is something I was willing to accept when I decided to buy a refurbished item. Software: This laptop comes with windows 10 pro installed. Upon first starting up the laptop I was greeted with a “please wait a moment” loading screen and then brought directly into the desktop. There was no initialization or setup process. Nothing was accessible except for the recycling bin, I could not access wifi, settings, etc. After thoroughly reading all handouts, I was able to reset the computer and enter the product key to activate windows. After doing this, you are taken through the setup process which does not take very long. The handouts were very helpful and had the product key listed as well. I was hoping to get right into my computer after doing this but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. I wanted to download programs such as chrome, iTunes, Microsoft word, etc but the laptop was not able to recognize .exe files which where the setup files for those respective programs. When I attempted to open the files, the computer would ask me to choose a program to run these files. After doing some research on the issue I tried to remedy it with the easiest option available which was to update windows. The updates were endless and would end up taking 4 “spotty” days of downloading and installation. I say spotty because I didn’t have the time to sit in front of the computer for hours to wait for it to finish and then click to start the next batch of updates. So even though the laptop came 2 days earlier on a Monday, I was not able to use until Friday that same week. This is more of an issue with Microsoft Windows though and not necessarily the laptop or refurbisher but it is worth noting for anyone hoping to get started right away. Hardware: In terms of specs, everything checked out in this area. I bought this laptop to upgrade from my current one which had a Pentium processor, 4gb of ram, and a hdd. In comparison, this laptop arrived with an i5 Processor, 8gb of ram, and a ssd. The difference is phenomenal! Startup time is about 5 seconds! My old laptop in comparison is about 45 seconds. Editing videos is much more doable now with a lot less lag time in rendering. As described there are 3 usb 3.0 ports, an ethernet port, a headphone jack, a smart card reader port, a display port, and a vga out. The one downside is that this does not have the more modern HDMI port. There is also a very hidden slot for an SD card on the right side and a slot for a regular sized sim card when you remove the battery which I can’t recall was listed in the description or not. The speakers are pretty much useless and are super quiet even at max volume. Luckily the laptop is capable of Bluetooth connection to a speaker or headphones. There is also a bit of a whine that comes from the fan, it seems to stay on during regular use so it may be something to just get used to. The backlit keyboard is amazing and is a great help on top of just being nice to look at. The battery life is good enough to get about 2-3 hours of consistent work done. You can also choose between battery conservative or performance focused power modes. On top of that there are HP official spares available. Summary: After having the laptop for about a week, I am happy with my purchase. I would definitely buy it again or recommend to a friend. It is also worth mentioning that the laptop was advertised as a 180gb ssd but actually came with 240gb one instead! Another bonus was the anti-virus software that came included with purchase. You simply have to be a little patient with refurbished products and understand what you may be getting into. Of course, if there are obvious faults then I would have simply returned the item but luckily that was not the case here. It is also reassuring to know that it comes with a 1-year warranty. With proper care, I am hoping to get much more use out of it than that though!

I was worried about buying this laptop refurbished as I have heard horror stories about refurbished items . Under advice I ultimately chose this. It turns out that the Microsoft refurbisher did a wonderful job. It looks brand new. I am still working out some kinks with it but otherwise it's a wonderful laptop. Battery life is awesome. The speed is great.

Bought this for my wife for grad school. We are on a tight budget, but I wanted her to have a nice, lightweight computer with certain performance specs. This computer fit the bill. I took a gamble on it being refurbished, but I am thoroughly impressed. It looks like an apple product, is well made, and looks and feels brand new.

I ordered this laptop for school. Very well put together machine for a bargain. I wasn't sure what to expect since this was my first refurbished, but it's excellent quality. I wanted a laptop that could do film editing, gis, schoolwork, and gaming and this seems like it'll be up for all those. Comes with the storage cord plus cord wrap.

I was kind of hesitant to purchase a refurbished product but I am very happy I did. The price I paid for this laptop allowed me to purchase other items I needed without breaking the bank. I am extremely happy with my purchase.

It's still new and my ability to put in the computers code was non existent but I do love the speed size and weight of this computer

Great storage and styling. I’ve been looking for a new laptop under $400 for some time and my friend who is in the tech field found this on the site and instructed me to jump on it before someone got this great deal!

Purchased this as a gift for my father. He uses it mostly for web browsing, and Skype. He has commented several times on how fast it runs.

Though not the newest tech, its a great package and build given the price. The screen is the one thing that is a bit of a disappointment. Battery that came with the unit was not charging. A call to the refurb company took care of that with a free replacement and return ship.

I was pleasantly surprised when i turned on this refurbished laptop. It's not loaded up with bloatware. The keyboard and screen were in perfect cosmetic condition. The power of the processor/ RAM combinations was perfect to run Windows Office, Chrome, and other apps simultaneously. It was pretty zippy regarding response time, and latency. Why would anyone ever buy a chromebook with the inexpensive price that this was offered. This is the way to go for beginner to intermediate users and users that do not need to do video editing or rendering.

Product arrived in a timely manner and works as it should. Initial start up is faster than a computer with a hard drive. My son will be using this for his high school classes.

This product is excellent and Best Buy is a perfect place.

My wife uses this laptop as her personal laptop in the home office. It works perfectly for checking email, streaming music and videos, running office apps, etc. This laptop running Windows 10 from the solid state drive is very fast and responsive. Great laptop for the money!

Extremely fast, I like how it's a short amount of seconds to boot up. Blue tooth works great for music and data transfer. The hey cortana feature is Windows version of siri which is helpful for multi tasking. This is a great buy for ssd laptop I highly recommend it.

SSD is the way to go these days, and these aren't a heavy investment so good easy computer

Purchased as a gift and i questioned the price and the good specs but when received it lived up to the name runs smooth and even though refurbished looks brand new. Keyboard lights up and the 8gb of ram helps me run almost anything.

beautiful refurbished computer Will probably buy one for my wife since she needs a new computer. Bought a docking station so this becomes a great desk unit as well.

With a limited budget, it's a good choice to buy this as it has SSD.
