    HP-ENVY 15.6 Laptop

    |
    Posted .

What's not to like? With 8GB memory and 750 GB Hard Drive, I've got room for all my photo files and space to Photoshop to my heart's desire! The sleek, silver, minimalist design is so dreamy I want to sleep with it under my pillow! The keyboard is designed with slightly wider spacing than I am used to but in time I think I'll adjust. Maybe I could have gone with a size smaller than the 15.6". If I needed this laptop to travel with, I'd go a bit smaller, but for my purposes all I can say is: ME LIKIE!!!!!!

    Great gaming computer

    |
    Posted .

I have enjoyed my new computer very much. I am able to play the games I couldn't on my last computer. My new HP is able to run many programs at once. I do have some Internet connection problem (some pages don't want to refresh or moving to a new page can disconnect from the Internet and sometimes take hours before allowing me to return to that page) however, this may also be my Internet connection, so I don't really know if it IS my computer. The battery does run out faster that the amount of time shown when I run my mouse over the battery life icon. Overall, I am very with my decision to purchase this HP. I have only had the minor problems listed above. Everything else has been great! Thank you!

    My best laptop so far!

    |
    Posted .

Light weight, compared to its nice full size display and keyboard. Battery life is great. Just setup a battery usage plan in the power options and use it all day, than charge it at night. Display is brilliant. My wife and kids use it mostly and it still looks and works like new after almost 3 months! It takes a beating and keeps on ticking - or is that Timex... oh well, I digress. I also have the same item in a desktop form HP Envy... that one is also super. Had an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC before it and that one lasted me for 7 years - and being a techie, I have really used and abused them all. So far HP's are great products. Customer Support should learn to speak English better, but the products are great.

Great Windows Laptop, especially for a DJ

    |
    Posted .

I had been looking to upgrade to a new laptop. I am a mobile DJ and needing to do a whole upgrade from the laptop I use to the DJ Mixer Hardware that I use. Since I don't DJ every week, I really couldn't afford a MAC laptop. I searched high and low, looked at every store in the area, not just Best Buy and after in store and online reviews I pulled the trigger on this HP. I gotta say that I really love my laptop. It's fast, light weight, but doesn't feel cheap. Its sexy to be honest! I have plenty of hard drive space and it's just a beast of a machine. The beats audio sounds really good on the laptop too. If you are someone looking for storage space, sexy looks, and to be up on the latest teach that windows has to offer, I would highly recommend this laptop. I also use the finger print technology to log on to my computer and that is just genius.

Great display and pretty good speed

I am a disaster with computers, but my HP is easy to use ( minus Windows 8) and runs quick. I like the security features that are already installed and how easy it is to adjust. I also like how light weight it is. The only thing I really don't like is Windows 8 because a simple request now has two or more steps. It also randomly pulls up the clock or switches between the desktop view and the apps panel. So either get the HP with the earlier version of Windows or learn how to fine tune Windows 8.

Good laptop for Photoshop and AutoCAD

    Posted .

Coming from a 5 year old MacBook Pro 15 the only 'downgrade' for me was slightly lower screen angle quality and less rigid case but otherwise it's impressive when compared to my 5 year old $1,800 laptop! Features I like: Backlit keyboard (though can't control intensity), Fast graphics performance (works as good or slightly faster than MacBook Pro), Built-in numeric keyboard (my Mac didn't have one), Very high quality video/audio TrueVision HD web cam. Biometric reader. Multi-gesture touchpad, good battery life. Excellent speaker quality. Lightweight. HP updates handled automatically to keep the software current - Nice! Features I don't like: No Caps Lock indicator light (no biggie). Wish HP would have printed the keys with slightly bolder text. Up/Down arrow keys (located under Shift Key) are small. Case can be easily flexed/twisted but I tested several brands at Best Buy and all suffer from some 'give' compared to a Mac. Windows 8 vs. Win 7 Thoughts: Win 8 is a memory hog. Otherwise it's a major layout change coming from my PC ownership dating back to 1991! Change is hard to accept but understand all software is moving towards a touch-interface process and this OS is a bridge between old and new. I don't like Win 8 personally but like Life - I'll adapt! Windows 8 has much improved security (very, very important) and there are things I like about Win 8 coming from Win 7/XP Mode (though I can't think of anything you can't already do in Win 7 - just takes one more click in some cases). I think using Win8 with the built-in Touchpad is difficult (keep accidentally hitting the corners turning on Charms, Full Screen Mode, etc.) but with a mouse it works similar to Win 7. In short, it will drive you nuts until you develop a Sixth Sense of where your finger is vs. where you think it is or want it to be on the TouchPad! I see Win 8 as being appropriate for a tablet or similar not a laptop/desktop but no, it's not a Mac OS folks (you MS fans don't hate me - it's my opinion based on owning both OS for over 20 years now) but it's getting very close! No one integrates devices like Apple but trust me - you pay for that and your choices are limited. The Mac TouchPads are amazing but this HP is not too bad. Overall I really like the way HP automatically updates the software, customer support and HP product integration (printers, cameras, tablets). Makes owning Win 8 a little easier to swallow. Thanks HP! I do mostly Astronomy stuff on this laptop so I run memory/processor intensive programs that tax this hardware up to its limit but so far the processor seems to handle complex mathematical functions quickly (FTIR Calcs, astrometry solves, merging 75 files of 2 GB each, etc.). I recommend this laptop to anyone that comes from a three-plus year-old Mac environment and for you unique folks, Win 8 won't be such a hard pill to swallow. For me, I ran Boot Camp (Win XP Pro) on my MacBook Pro then later Win 7 with XP Mode so I don't say 'kudos to HP on this ENVY m6' lightly! Good hardware now let's see how it stands up to dew-filled nights, dust, heat, cold, salt air environments, vibration, etc. - Astro Imaging demands are pretty tough when we go out to remote image in environmentally hard locales!!

    Fantastic Laptop!

    Posted .

I am fully satisfied with yet another HP laptop! It is constructed out of lightweight, yet very durable material. Very sharp looking. The keyboard is very responsive, has number keys on the side and best of all, it's very brightly back lighted and you can turn this feature on and off. The touchpad is very smooth and you can customize it quite nicely for different responses. Hard drive is fast and quiet. With 8 megs of ram, it is very sufficient in handling what I can throw at it. It does not get too hot on my lap at all. I have had a few laptops that got unbearable hot! It also has Beats Audio and a small subwoofer on the bottom of the laptop. Audio is amazing with and without earphones. HDMI output, which is a big selling point for me. Screen is sharp and bright. I could go on and on. I have no complaints at all. If you are not familiar with Windows 8, please don't let your displeasure or unfamiliarity with the operating system blindside you into thinking it's the laptop. It's not. This is a great laptop. Buy it. You won't regret it!

    Great Computer

    Posted .

I see a lot of people complaining about the Windows 8.. however its not that bad if you leave the computer on desktop view. Its basically the same thing as every other windows. ANYWAYS. This computer is reliable and fast. I am writing this review on it actually. It has a great display and the keys are comfortable to type on. I love the fingerprint reader because I can log into all of my accounts using it instead of having to type in my user name and password. The battery life is pretty fantastic considering I use it all day on one charge. (I mean ALL DAY). Its fast to load anything you want, and it will multi task just fine. After you learn to use the Windows 8, I assure you that you will love it. The beats sound system is CRYSTAL CLEAR and LOUD for all you music and video lovers out there. I also LOVE the 10 key number pad. This is just a great all round lap top. I would recommend this computer to anyone. Not to mention I am a lover of HP because they are durable as all get out. I replaced my old HP with this new one because after how many times I dropped it and it still works great, how could I go with another brand. Also in my conclusion I should mention that this computer does NOT overheat like other lap tops do while you are using multitask, it run cool/warm while sitting on the arm of my couch or in my lap. I enjoy the fact that I do not have to sit it on a table and let it cool off every 10 minutes!!

Windows 8 is not cool. That said, a little Googling and you can fix the main issues. (Download a start menu. Why would Windows get rid of the start menu? I don't know. But thank God there are nerds who fix these issues.) After that, Windows 8 really is decent. Everything else is great though. I've had no issues and I've had this computer about a month. Display is great, audio is awesome and it's easily handled everything I've thrown at it.

    So far so good

    Posted .

This is my first personal laptop, I have been using hp desktops for years. Most games will run pretty well and the graphics aren't terrible for a laptop, but any game that requires internet connection (WoW in particular) will take a hit in either speed or quality compared to its desktop performance. The battery life could be improved, but with an attentive user it can be extended by an hour or two (i.e. don't keep it at full brightness). Don't bother using it outside: even in the shade it becomes rather difficult to see the screen. The fingerprint scanner is great! The keyboard is quiet and responsive, though the up and down arrow keys are a bit too narrow. The mouse pad is also responsive and I enjoy the multi-finger gesture support. I'm surprised that for how little fan activity there is, the laptop remains fairly cool even with extended use. My biggest concern is probably the hinges, though I'm unsure if this is the model's problem or just a general laptop wear-and-tear problem: I feel that the laptop's ability to stay shut will falter over time, the grip has weakened somewhat in the month and a half I have owned it. Otherwise, great laptop, perfect for school work, handles Windows 8 nicely, very few complaints from this undergrad student.

I bought this laptop about a month ago and absolutely love it. I wanted to buy a laptop that was affordable and great for school. After debating with laptop models I chose this one. For my first laptop it pleases all I wanted in it. I like that it has the DVD player , backlit keyboard, and the battery life displayed is very accurate. Also, best buy offers a price match. I bought it for 679, a week later it went down to 649 and I had it priced match. As part of the offer I got an antivirus for a whole year free.

Very satisfied with convenience of a laptop.

    Posted .

My immediate impression as a first-time laptop user is how lightweight and convenient it is. I previously owned several PC's over the past many years that included a monitor and a tower so I definitely like the portability of a laptop. I was initially concerned about using a "flat" keyboard in lieu of an ergonomic one, but it is actually easier for me. The 15.6 inch screen is more than adequate. The screen is clear and easy to view. The laptop also utilizes a fingerprint swipe that is easy to set-up and use for security purposes...very convenient. The one thing I find difficult to get used to is the finger/touch pad so I bought a mouse and my frustrations are solved. Windows 8 was touted as a new operating system and very different than previous systems. This proved to be true. I purchased my laptop about a month ago and am still learning how to bring data and pictures in and store them in appropriate programs, then to access them easily. Even though I am technically-oriented, I find some areas difficult to use. There is a "Get To Know Windows 8" section that is included on the computer that gives you an overview of the system but I found another program that I purchased that is more helpful in navigating through it. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone.

All I Want in a Laptop

    |
    Posted .

I held off on buying a laptop for years but as my 7 yr. old 2 gig PC has grown progressively more sluggish, I finally decided to take the plunge and get a top-of-the-line laptop that I would not need to replace too soon. This HP has 8-count-em-8 gigs and speed beyond anything I've ever owned before. The 15.6 screen is the perfect size and has perfect definition which remains fairly un-smudged because I deliberately chose to opt out on buying one of those laptop/tablet hybrids with the touch-screen. The lighted keyboard and the finger lock are also sweet. A big selling point for me was the many ports on this device so that whatever this laptop doesn't have can be easily added on. Windows 8 might irk some people, but I'll be on record as saying that I like it and will like it more and more as I as I grow more familiar with it.

The computer itself is a great item, it has a fingerprint reader that is very convenient, has a large amount of gigs (750) and the keyboard lights up so I can type at night if I have to. Windows 8 takes some time getting used to and a few minor flaws when it comes to the internet. Other than that, the computer is great.

I've have the laptop for a month. I use it fairly regularly for entertainment, school work, and research. - good price - quick start up - easy to learn (it just takes some time learning win8) - looks very nice - great sound - great picture quality - Sleak - I like the multi-touch touch pad, but it takes a little time to get familiar and learn. I like the feel as well. - lightweight compared to my old 13" dell xps - great customer service with best buy - appearance reminds me of mac book I was a bit confused setting up the windows account that it took me a bit longer to set up the laptop.

    Great computer, decent price

Overall, this laptop is a good buy. I've never had any major problems with an HP product. (In fact, they make great printers too.) Screen resolution is awesome, keyboard is nice and comfortable to type on and its lightweight. Probably could use a bit more RAM, but its only relevant if you're streaming movies, online gaming, etc., where you really need a fast refresh rate. Windows 8, however, in my opinion is not very user friendly. Although this is not HP's fault, it is what it is... This does not have a touch screen. The only reason I mention this is because Windows 8 is really geared toward touch-screen use (in my opinion). I did not want a touch screen for a laptop and I do not regret buying this for that reason. However, if you are buying something and it has Windows 8, you may find it more convenient to get a touch screen. Overall, a good buy...

    Great comeback by HP!

    Posted .

I've had various laptops for the last 20 years. Started with HP, then Dells, Toshibas, Asus, Acer, Gateway & IBM/Lenovo. I'd shied away from HP for a good many years due to heavy design and unreliable parts. I'm pleased to say this laptop has made a very good impression on me & has renewed my faith in HP devices. It's fast, has lots of RAM, the screen is very crisp and bright and the battery life is the best I've had in a laptop. I like the backlit keyboard, though I must admit I've had trouble getting used to the non "clickity" properties of it. Perhaps if the keys had a slight bevel in them & weren't completely flat I'd find myself with fewer typing errors. Just a personal issue, nothing more. I think I may replace the harddrive with a hybrid SSD Drive to increase file system speed, though this isn't necessary by any means. Windows 8 isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I'm a computer systems engineer so learning new OS's comes with the territory. A few tools makes Windows 8 more user friendly. By name - Stardock Software's Start 8, Decor 8 and ModernMix brings back all the interface qualities of Windows 7 while retaining the superior speed of Windows 8. Honestly, I don't even see the Metro desktop any more, Start 8 goes straight to the Windows 7 style desktop. Windows Blue (Windows 8 SP1) will probably bring back the familiar Windows 7 desktop interface and negate the need for add-ons to restore those capabilities. In all, I am extremely pleased with this laptop and would most certainly recommend it to anyone.

    Great mid-level laptop

    Posted .

I read reviews and brought myself up to speed on a laptop / desktop replacement in my budget (500-700). This HP Envy 6 ended as the winner @ $700 from BBY. The AMD version was $630 and had 2 less MB of Ram and a slower processor. It is expandable to 16 GB Ram so if you are upgrading soon then buy the AMD and spend the $70 on the Ram. The Beats audio is across the entire Envy line so there is no choice to opt out, however more sound from a laptop is always better. This also replaces my older Dell Optiplex desktop so the decision was between the i5 and i7 but price solved that. It has a 750 GB hard drive which is more than I wanted when 500 GB is sufficient and I backup to an external HD. The display is thin so be aware it may not travel as well as a 14" laptop when items get placed on top of it. I have not had any issues just concerned although I don't travel with it much. Overall, good laptop, Windows 8 is not bad just different. I have figured out how to do everything I need in less than 5 minutes of youtube. All PC's will have it so just migrate over sooner. I did consider buying Windows 7 and loading it before the purchase, however you already pay for it in the price of the laptop so keep it.
