The computer itself seemed great, but after setting it up I quickly realized how loud it was (mostly from the fan running almost constantly). I ended up returning it because the loudness was too annoying/distracting. Not entirely sure if that one was just detective though because other reviews didn't seem to mention how loud the fan was. I then got the hp spectra which was more money than I wanted to spend but it is silent.

Great, beautiful computer, amazing screen-which was a big plus when purchasing. I had the 2014 15 inch 2-in-1 version of this laptop and absolutely loved it until switching to Adobe CC. I figured I'd give the latest and greatest a try as I loved the first one. After about 2 months, the fan made an awful grinding noise. Having purchased open box certified, I was able to go back to the store and exchange it. I went with a brand new in box one and a week later, I got the same noise. I'm assuming that it is getting very hot because I run adobe and illustrator constantly for work and it just could not handle it. I ended up getting a different laptop all together after the two different laptops had the same issue

Everything works as it should, it's quick and snappy, easy to use and get started with. My only concern is the HDD drive on this is crasy loud at times on start up and it just stays loud until a full system shutdown and reboot. Not sure how long it will last due to this issue without having to replace the HDD.

I was finally compelled to write a review! Good: The screen is nice and big and bright. The display is good. The backlit keyboard is good, though at some angles it's hard to read. Con: The HDD failed within 5 months. Get it replaced ASAP. THIS COMPUTER IS LOUD. Once it gets going it's like a freight train coming at you. In normal temps it's relatively fine. Once the jet engine fan kicks in, you might as well turn it off. Performance lags a little and the fan won't shut up. Also despite the graphics card, it can't seem to handle much in the way of graphics. Maybe I don't have the right settings, but some games were super laggy and all make the fan kick in immediately. If you want a 17"+ screen, this is a good option. Just be prepared for noise.

The HP Envy (17m-bw0013dx) is a wonderful full size, full featured touchscreen laptop that fits well as both a professional office workhorse and as an entertainment laptop. Equipped with the 8th generation Intel i7 chip, 12 gb of RAM, a 7200 rpm hybrid drive, a beautiful 17.3" FHD multitouch touch sreen, and a dedicated Nvidia GeForce MX150 graphics card, this laptop handles the needs of the professional office user who also engages in video and graphics design. Here's what I liked about this laptop: (1) Fast. Phenomenally short boot times - you're up and running in like 15 seconds. The hybrid drive has a 16gb SSD which is used for booting. The i7 processor and 12gb RAM also handles applications running simultaneously with no issues. I opened over twenty browser tabs, had photoshop and CAD software running, and this laptop never once broke a sweat. Also, thanks to a 7,200 rpm drive, things are done in a snap. @@@@@@@@ 2) Gorgeous 17.3" full hd screen with very wide viewing angles. Colors are rendered vividly and with great contrast. @@@@@@@@ 3) Backlit keyboard. It's cool that the keys light up. @@@@@@@@ 4) Very good internal speakers. You can only get so much output and audio quality from internal laptop speakers, but the Bang & Olufsen speakers that are built in to this laptop does a decent job. At maximum volume it can get very loud. It also sounded very good, not tinny at all. @@@@@@@@ 5) Excellent Trackpad. Over the years, I've owned numerous laptops and hated the trackpads for various reasons such as being too stiff or not responsive, and always ended up using a wireless mouse. However, I'm happy to report that the trackpad on this HP Envy is very responsive, light to the touch, and clicks well. As I've been using the laptop for the past few days, I never had the urge to use a mouse. @@@@@@@@ 6) Comfortable full size keyboard. Great to have a dedicated number pad as I use it a lot at work. Also I do a ton of typing, and the keyboard was very responsive. The keys had the right travel and soft click to them, and the keys on the keyboard were well spaced to accommodate even larger hand sizes. Typing for several hours, I never once felt any fatigue. @@@@@@@@ 7) Nice Design. It's got a smooth metallic aluminum looking finish with well defined angles and edges. I also like that it isn't a finger print magnet. @@@@@@@@ 8) Plenty of modern day ports and connections: 3 usb3 ports, 1 usb-c, 1 HDMI, 1 Ethernet port, headphone/mic jack, full size sd card reader. @@@@@@@@ 9) DVD drive. Well, we all know the CD/DVD is approaching extinction, but nevertheless, it is still welcoming to see this in a full featured laptop. There isn't anything I disliked about the HP Envy, other than the weight, but you would have to accept this going in to the purchase. I find the environment for this laptop to either be a desktop replacement in a home or office setting where it is going sit on top of a table most of the time. Although it is portable, the weight and size of it makes it too cumbersome to carry around for work or school. If you're a student or professional who travels a lot, I would not recommend this laptop as there are ligher, smaller, and more portable alternatives. In conclusion, equipped with excellent hardware under the hood, a beautiful 17.3" vibrant touchscreen, and a professional stylish look and finish, the HP Envy delivers as an all around full size performance laptop that will help you get the job done with lightning speed.

HP and the ENVY line are known for great build quality, and good looks. This 17.3" desktop replacement is no different. So upon opening the box you will be greeted by a rather thick piece of protective foam, under this you will find the Laptop and to the right you will have a smaller black box which contains the power cables. Its a pretty basic unboxing. The laptop is made from aluminum and looks really nice. Along the back edge of the laptop screen it has a pattern that looks like oil slick. It looks really neat and give the laptop a break from the basic silver looks. On the front of the laptop you dont have anything when the lid is closed, on the right side you have the fingerprint scanner for Windows Hello, you also get something you dont find often any more and thats a DVDRW drive, shame it not Blu-ray as DVD is becoming yesteryear. On the left side you get your lock, Thunderbolt port, HDMI port, combo headphone and mic port, 2 USB ports and the LAN connector. the rear of the until has nothing other than the design. Functionality wise I love this laptop. As you open the lid the base of the laptop will elevate slightly from the back to give you a much more comfortable typing experience than just laying flat. The keyboard has a nice amount of travel with its keys and its also backlit. The mouse pointer is fast and precise and also a good size which makes it a breeze to use multi gestures. Form is also impressive as this is a large laptop but its manageable. Weighing in at a hair under 6.5lbs while its heavy its not too heavy to use daily and move around. Whats also nice is even though it does come equipped with a DVD drive the laptop is still less than 1" thick with the lid closed, its very sleek. The screen is nice. It's 1080P and looks really good. the screen is a glossy IPS panel and has some great viewing angles. Its also pretty bright. Performance on this is superb. As this is the new 8th generations of the Intel Core i7 you get true quad core processing which is a big boost over the older 7th gen which were dual core still. Performance of the new quad setup is evident when using in different applications. With 12gb of DDR4 ram it helps with multi tasking and such and doesnt get bogged down at all. last night I was editing video while exporting I was also watching YouTube and clicking through 8 Chrome tabs with no issues. It will also play games on lower settings so you can play Fortnite on this system as it has the NVIDIA GeForce MX150, though it is the 2gb version and not the 4gb. The sound from the Laptop is surprisingly good, while lacking some depth it is loud and clear, it still has some depth, just not a lot. The system is quiet and doesnt seem to get hot at all, battery is ok, not going to blow you away by any means but is adequate. If you are looking for a portable desktop solution that you can do some light gaming on, maybe some video and photo editing and otherwise just media consumption with daily tasks then this will be perfect for you and I do highly recommend it.
