Great quality & easy-to-use. App is awesome

I usually dislike inkjet printers but this Envy Photo 7155 All-in-One is a great printer that made me change my mind. There are several great things going for it. *Design. For a printer, I think it looks great! HP put some effort into it and made it NOT look like a run-of-the-mill generic printer. True to its Envy moniker, the printer is wrapped up in black and gold that gives the device a high-end and slick look. If you have a HP Envy laptop in black and gold, they would match up very nicely. *Ergonomics & Setup. This printer is very easy to setup and use. The top cover opens up smoothly to expose the Scanner glass and when one lifts up the top portion of the printer unit by grabbing the gold-colored handles, the inside of the printer is easily accessed. From in here, you install the two inkjet cartridges - one Black and one Tri-Color - and you can also remove any paper jams by pulling up on the gray-colored handle. The cartridges just pop-in and pop-out. The paper tray is also easy to use. Pull it out and in one section, you load the regular 8"x11" plain white papers. Inside the smaller upper tray, you put in the photo paper. The color LCD screen that displays all the printer functions and options is also very intuitively laid out and easy to find all the settings. The touchscreen isn't as responsive as a smartphone screen but it is good enough and definitely a nice feature to have. A helpful dedicated Back button makes it easier to navigate around. Once the cartridges are installed and the printer is powered on, instructions are displayed on the screen - one step at a time - that is very easy to follow. Using the "HP Smart" smartphone app, I had the printer quickly connected to my home Wifi network and ready to go. *Printer quality. The quality of both the Black & White and Color prints are fantastic~!! I was especially impressed how great my pictures I took on my Galaxy S8+ looked when printed out on the 4"x6" HP Advanced Glossy photo paper. I've used photo services from Costco, CVS, and Rite-Aid and they have nothing over the Envy 7715's photo quality. All the colors, shades, hues, and details were well-preserved and the photos looked sharp and vibrant. The photos looked just like it did on my Galaxy S8+'s photo gallery. As for regular black & white printouts, they look as crispy and finely detailed as my laserjet printer. No weird fuzzy & "smeadgy" edges. *Performance. Of course the papers don't print out as fast as laserjet printers but for a inkjet, it's pretty good and I'm frankly content and satisfied. Overall, I have no complaints about the printer. It is easy to setup, easy to use, and has an excellent companion smartphone app. I actually prefer sending the print command from the HP Smart app than from within Windows 10 because it is easier to understand my print options and is faster to execute a print job. Bravo to HP for creating an excellent printer that I highly recommend to anyone.

    Menu

This printer has printing, copying, and scanning capability. It can connect wirelessly to your network or you can print to it without connecting to a network using Wifi Direct. In addition, you can get the free "HP Smart" phone app which enables you to send photos directly from your phone to your printer. Another great feature is that it has the capability for you to send a document to print via your email by attaching the document and emailing it directly to the printer’s email address. You can also change the printer's email address to something easier to remember. A feature that I really like is adding your printer to HPConnected.com. You will need your Claim Code which can be found in one of the menu selections in the display on the front of the printer. Packaging: The printer came well packaged with Styrofoam molded to fit precisely around the edges to ensure the printer was not jostled during shipping. All of the moveable parts in the paper drawer were taped in place. Included in the package were the power cord, a small package of photo paper, a color ink cartridge, and a black ink cartridge, as well as set up instructions. Set up: It was a breeze to set up; much easier than my last printer. All you have to do is go to 123.hp.com and download the app and your computer will search for your printer. Since I had my other printer still turned on, the app found that printer first, so I turned off that printer and then the app found the 7155 printer immediately. During the set-up process, it calibrated my printer and also let me print out a 4x6 image from my computer. This step can be skipped if you don’t want to use your photo paper, but I didn’t skip it and the photo quality it printed was top quality. Paper: The printer has a main tray for copy paper and a 4x6 photo tray. There will be a small package of 4x6 glossy photo paper included with the printer to start off with. Printing via the printer’s private email address: To change the printer’s email address, first go into the display screen on the printer and turn on hpeprint under “Web Services Settings”, then print out the Web Services Summary. That will give you a copy of the original email address and the Printer Claim Code. The original email address will be a bunch of random letters and numbers and will end with “@hpeprint.com.” Next go onto your computer and go to the web site “hpconnected.com.” Create an account if you don’t already have one. (I did because my last printer also used HP Connected.) Then click to Add a Printer. It will ask you for the claim code, which should be on the paper you printed, but it it is not, you can use the set of letters and numbers shown before the “@hpeprint.com”. Then click to change the email address to something you can remember. Of course, you can just print the normal way by pressing the print icon on your computer and choosing your new printer, but occasionally you may need to email your document directly to your printer. I found this to be very useful with my last laptop, because it kept disconnecting from my old printer and I couldn’t print the normal way. Thankfully, that issue was resolved when I got a new laptop, but in the meantime, I just emailed whatever I wanted to print to my printer and it printed immediately. Scanning: When you scan, you have a choice of scanning directly to one of the computers on your network or you can scan to an SD card. Also, you can choose if you want the scan to be PDF or JPG. Copying: Lift the lid on the top of the printer, place a document on the glass, and choose “Copy.” You can choose black or color and you can also tell the printer how many copies you want. Ink: The printer takes one black and one color cartridge. Display: To use the many choice on the menu, either press one of the buttons for printing, scanning, copying, or apps. Also you can swipe down from the top to show more menu choices. Ink level, Web Services, and more!

Feature-Packed, Simple Operation, & Great Photos

Out of the box it took me approximately thirty minutes to set-up and download the printer software. Included with the printer is a six-foot,120v power cord, User Set-Up and Connection Guide, two (first-use) printing cartridges (*64 tri-color and *64 black), and five HP (4” x 6”) glossy photo papers. After connecting the printer directly to my laptop using Wi-Fi Direct (not through my network router) I selected five of my favorite pictures for photo printing. I anxiously waited as the printer queued-up. But, it only took about ninety seconds to print each 4” x 6” glossy photo. The professional quality of each printed photo, rich color, and striking detail blew me away. WoW! Hardware and Software Features of the HP ENVY Photo 7155 AIO: Two paper trays – one dedicated photo (top) and one for documents or large photos (bottom). * Through the HP App you choose which paper tray and size to use. * Photo tray is designed for three sizes, 4” x 5”, 4” x 6”, and 5” x 7”. * Document tray accepts both 8 1/2” x 11” printing and, or, large photo paper, and standard A4 envelopes. Duplexer – Allows for two sided printing and copying to save paper. * I can select this option through the HP software on my laptop, or, my mobile devices, smartphone or tablet, or, using the touchscreen display window on the printer. USB Port – On back of unit adjacent to the power plug is a USB Type 'B' Port. * To connect your device, you will need a USB Type 'A' to Type 'B' cable (not furnished) SD Card Slot – On front left of unit located in a compartment with round door. * Accepts both SDHC or SDXC memory cards. * I can view photos or documents directly from my SD card and print from the touchscreen display window. Touchscreen Color Display Window – Touch for basic menu options, Copy, Scan, Photo. * Scroll down each menu item for choices, selection, and details. * Has touch and illuminated Home, Help, and Return buttons. * Help has many useful 'How To Videos', Tips, Product Tour and Printer Information. * Swipe down from top of display window to open your Dashboard. * Here are Icons for Settings, Wireless Status and Connections, HP E-Print Set-Up for mobile devices, Wi-Fi Direct Status and Set-Up, Estimated Ink Cartridge Levels, and Environmental Settings as this HP ENVY Photo 7155 Printer is Energy Star Compliant (sleep time, one/two sided copies, etc.). Wireless Connectivity – Printer is dual radio band, 2.4 GHz and 5 Hz, for home network. * Wi-Fi home network connection allows for Internet access so I can print anything from Internet sites both social and educational, and from any location I am at. * Bluetooth for printing directly from my smartphone, tablet, or other mobile devices. * Printing, copying, and scanning can all be initiated from the HP software over Wi-Fi home network. * Wi-Fi Direct allows me to connect up to five specified devices without going through home network router for more 'family-control' purposes. Scanner – Using the HP downloaded software I can scan documents or photos easily. * I can scan using my computer, tablet, or smartphone, or, from an SD memory card. * Once I scan a document I can send it as an e-mail attachment or file it for later use. Printing – Super sharp color photos from PC, smartphone, or other mobile devices. * Laser-like caliber printing from black cartridge ink. The HP software allow you to set the quality, and, or greyscale, number of copies, etc. * TIP: Use quality printing and photo paper for best results – color pics printed out on the furnished, glossy, photo paper are spectacular. Illuminated On/Off Button – At left front of unit. Shuts unit off and wakes from sleep. * Printer automatically awakes from sleep-mode when printing task is in its queue. HP Software – Available for download at 123.hp.com or Apple Store. * For all mobile devices use HP ePrint for Android and IOS, Air Print. After using the HP ENVY Photo 7155 AIO, daily, for over a week, I am convinced that this printer is probably one of the most versatile you can buy for home network use at its price point. For me the best attributes are the Wi-Fi Direct connections and the double-sided copying. In the Wi-Fi Direct options in the Dashboard I changed the settings from 'automatic' to 'manual', which allows me to use a special password (no one else knows) to access this printer. I did this to keep my kids from printing numerous photos. I already have a Wi-Fi home network, laserjet (black ink, cartridge only printer). My kids would use all of my glossy photo paper and tri-color ink cartridge up in one day without this extra protection over my regular, Wi-Fi home network. I am still on Wi-Fi, just don't go through my home network router. I am no longer King-Of-My-Castle, but definitely King-Of-My-Printer. WooHoo! I highly recommend this feature-packed printer and especially for all its versatility for home use. It is an easy learning curve, and, fairly simple to operate. The Product Demo and 'How To Videos' gives me a visual Users' Manual on the printer that I can access anytime. Classes resume shortly, this would make a great gift for any college or serious high school student. It also is an outstanding purchase for anyone, who loves high quality photos, Mom, Dad, or Grandparents.

I really like this printer. It's well made, simple to set up and easily controlled via the HP Smart app. You can even control your printer from Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant or use AirPrint or Google Assistant capable, to easily print from your mobile device. And with the HP Smart App, you can print from literally any place you have access to Wifi. Flexibility is the name of game here. In terms of capability, you can print up to 14 pages per minute (ppm) in black and up to 9 ppm in color with up to 4800 x 1200 dpi color resolution. HP makes getting printer cartridges beyond easy, by letting you sign up for Instant Ink, a reasonably priced monthly payment plan, which monitors the ink levels automatically for and when you need new cartridges, they simply ship them to you. I did the math and found the monthly cost is less than buying printer cartridges in-store. The paper tray stores up to 125 sheets of paper and it has a separate tray for photo paper. On the side of the printer is a door which swings open where you'll find a built-in memory card slot and USB 2.0 port to simply plug in a memory card, USB drive camera or other device to print directly from. Photo printing is terrific. The printer is duplex capable, so you can direct your printouts to print on both sides of a single page of paper. You also have a simple to use Flatbed scanner with up to 1200 x 1200 dpi optical resolution and for clear copies, you get up to 600 x 600 dpi in color and 300 x 300 dpi in black. Setup of the printer couldn't be easier. Download the HP Smart App to your mobile device and also get it from the Microsoft Store for your computer. Create an account sing in and then the app finds the printer and connects it to your home network automatically. On your computer, the HP Smart App will download all the printer drivers for you and add an icon on your desktop to manage the printer functions. It takes literally minutes and is so simple all the around. You can control the printer via the front panel 2.65" CGD (color graphics display) touch screen, to print, store files and access business apps directly from the printer. We've had the printer now for a few weeks and it's been spot on reliable. If there was one thing I would change it would be to have automated the slide out tray which your prints rest on (so they don't fall on the floor). Since I print from home, office and just about anywhere, the little tray needs to be out all the time, or you'll come home and find your printed pages on the floor. Since the location of the printer in my home is deep enough, it's not an issue, but the much older printer we had which this HP Printer replaced had a tray which popped out automatically when you printed something. If this is the only thing I can find to complain about, I'd say it's very minor as overall, the printer is excellent and should stand the test of time. All in all, this is a great printer, with terrific and easy to use controls and as you would expect from HP, the print quality is excellent. Add in the Instant Ink program and this couldn't be simpler to keep going.

Printer Quality sucks and there are lines in every photo I print. Also there are bleed ink marks. I wish I never purchased this printer from Best Buy because now my time is up to return for another one. Also I called HP and it’s a foreign guy on the phone who wanted to hack inside my computer just to fix my printer & I said o no, not with my person stuff in my computer as I sometimes use it to pay my bills. Therefore that was no help.

      Hello,

I’m sorry to hear of the printing quality issues you have been facing with this printer. This is far from the reliable and satisfactory experience we would like to offer our customers.

I would suggest using your Print-Scan-Doctor app, which automatically scans your PC and the connection to your printer for problems, identifies where the issues come from and then resolves them for you. Through this you can often improve your printing experience quite easily:
      - HP Print and Scan Doctor: support.hp.com/topic/printscandoctor

If the issue is not resolved with this, I would recommend contacting our customer support. We are always here for you and would love to help you resolve this problem. You can always reach us via your preferred contact method here: hp.com/contactHP

Good for photos, not good for paper prints

**This printer was provided for an early review, thus as of the time of this review, some features may not work as it should. The Envy Photo 7155 lives up to its name, as your typical prints on paper will likely be envious of their photo counterparts, as they look much worse. As I’m told, this printer is optimized for photo prints, which turned out vibrant and crisp, but when printing on paper, the results are subpar with lines evenly spaced out throughout the print. There are ways to workaround that (described below), but you shouldn’t have to do it. Black and white texts prints are fast and sharp. Scanning speed is decent, but lacks all but basic post processing. You have two choices of software, HP Smart app or HP Print Assistant, each with their own quirks. I prefer the HP Print since it has more options for scanning. The other issues I’ve had with this printer is that it’s quite loud, shakes, and have a terrible touchscreen. It uses a tri-color cartridge, which will likely end up with one color running out first. IMO, a specialized printer that can’t do basic printing isn’t going to cut it, especially at this price point. Even my cheaper, 7 year old Epson printer outperforms this printer in almost every way. Good: -Text prints fast and clear -Photo prints looks great -Scan is decent -Design is nice Bad: -Prints on plain paper have lines throughout. -Loud and shakes while printing -Touch screen is small and unresponsive -Uses single cartridge for 3 colors -Post scan correction is lacking Setting up: Out of the box, the printer looked nice. It has the same color scheme as my HP Spectre laptop, which I appreciated. After powering it on, I was prompted to download the app to set up the printer. I ran into my first problem in that it didn’t detect my printer and I had to set it up manually using the printer’s screen. Not a big deal, it’s a few simple steps to setup the network, but the 2 inch touch screen is just awful to use. It’s so unresponsive to touch and scroll that it feels like using an old touch screen device from 10 years ago! After detecting my printer, I had a choice of either downloading the HP Smart app from the Microsoft store, just software and drivers, or just drivers for basic functions. First I installed the Smart app. The app allowed me to print either documents or photos, scan, and run maintenance and printer reports. I thought the app was too simple, especially for the scan option. I downloaded the HP Printer software and driver instead, and that gave me more options to play around with. Great, printer setup and ready to use. Printing, scanning, and copying: This printer is quite loud, making a lot of clicking and grinding sounds during operation. It also shakes badly while printing. Better to have a sturdy table or stand because this will shake the whole table like a mini earthquake. I had this on the same table as my desktop and immediately moved it. As the name implies, this printer’s strong point is that it’s optimized to print photos, and on that it met my expectations. A 4x6 printed relatively quick, and looks more vibrant and sharper than my previous printer, but it doesn’t have the same sheen. Darker colors will have a matte finish which is very noticeable in the light. I wouldn’t call it studio quality, but it’s passable. Now we get to my biggest issue with this, the printing on “plain paper.” When doing so, I would get equally spaced lines. If printing big blocks of color, these lines are even more noticeable. It looked as if the printhead was defective, but after changing them out, I still got the same results. The workaround is that I have to set it to best quality and choose a different paper type from within the printer settings. Doesn’t matter which one, as long as it’s not “plain paper.” However this will waste more ink and may over saturate the paper. I’m told that this is typical for this line of printers. On the other hand, text prints out fast and clear. Scanning takes about 15 seconds, but afterwards, the image processing were very limited with the only options to adjust are rotation, brightness, contrasts, and midtones. Without correction, scans tends to be faded and washed out. The auto exposure option didn’t look great either. My old Epson has a much better software for their scans. Copying has the same line issue as with printing on paper. It takes a bit longer than a typical copier. Black and white looks about as what you would get from a Xerox, while colors will look like a typical printout. *I’ve attached some printouts that I scanned back in. Notice the white lines every ¾ in. The scans are faded, but it’s more prominent in the actual prints. If you need an all-in-one printer, I can’t fully recommend this printer. It does one thing well, while lacking in the rest. Maybe if you only print photos, but even then there are other printers that can do that while being able to print nice color prints as well.

Bought this mid-March. Pandemic strikes, can't mentally muster setting anything up, and I finally go to do so for taxes July 1. I keep getting the "cartridge can't move" message. I have no clue why—I can trigger the cartridge to move—and spend time putting the cartridges in/removing. I check paper and restart—both just in case. And then I see there's a ribbon of sorts near the cartridge but not connected to anything I knowingly touched, and it's twisted. I try to untwist it and ... the ribbon thing EASILY rips (I was so gentle!). So great. I just damaged it by trying to fix what was off. And now I'm going to begin the support journey. ... No.

      Hi there.

I’m sorry to hear about the unsettling experience you had while setting up your printer. I can understand why you’d be perplexed and unnerved after apparently damaging something after such a gentle attempt and correcting it. With that in mind I’ll offer some resources and information that I hope will help.

I can’t tell from your review quite what happened or how it affects the printer, so I recommend you contact us directly at +1 800-474-6836 so we can help you assess the situation and help you through any applicable troubleshooting. (Please note that because of restrictions on personal movement and workplace attendance associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, wait times for agents are longer than normal. Thanks in advance for your understanding.) To expedite the process, I recommend gathering the following information before the call:

      - Model number
      - Serial number
      - Your location
      - Case number (from any previous contact with HP support)

I'll also mention that HP printers have a one-year warranty from their purchase date that covers hardware as well as ink supplies, so if it comes to that, you might consider making use of it. You can verify the warranty using the following link: support.hp.com/us-en/checkwarranty

    Print quality, Scanning

This was extremely easy to set up. I purchased to work at home (print and scan) and the wife can do periodic pictures. The printing is great. Scanning is great when it works. Sometimes it takes a few times to get it to scan to email. Like it doesn’t want to connect. Most times I’ve tried was 3 before it took. I’m doing it all wirelessly so maybe that is the issue. The above issue is not enough to warrant a bad review. For someone who hates setting up new technology this was a piece of cake. That’s why the high review. The touch screen is a handy little thing to have as well

Awesome printer with aesthetics and performanace

I got the HP Envy 7155 just in time to start school. My older Envy 120 which still worked great but I wanted an upgrade but keep the same functionality of being able to scan and one touch copy. The Envy 7155 is an All-in-One printer meaning it should be able to do anything you need it to. When you first unbox the printer, you immediately notice the rose gold accent and the matte black scheme. My two favorite colors, coincidentally my 2009 Yamaha R6 is the same color scheme with the performance to rival any motorcycle, did I just compare the Envy 7155 to my Yamaha R6? Setup was pretty simple, I followed the on screen (built-in LCD) and put in my WiFi setting, after setting that up it prompted me for computers to go to the HP setup website and finished install on my laptop. For mobile devices you don't need to do that but you will need to install the HP Mobile printing app, which I already had from my Envy 120. The built-in LCD did have a little trouble recognizing my selections when i touch the language or inputted my WiFi setting. Otherwise the setup was very easy and intuitive. Printing performance is great, this thing is a beast when I printed full page picture of night sky I recently took. I was very surprised how fast it printed the full page picture. The blacks looked great, there was a bit of a moire pattern on the print but as a disclaimer I did went out of my way to print under the "DRAFT" setting when the print prompt settings came up. I also printed a past paper just to see how crisp and clean the text would come out and I'm very happy with the clean and on point text.
