    Great for a short time

I had gone through two of these before I gave up on it and got a different printer. When it worked, it was nice. I loved the ability to copy multiple papers at a time through the top and the printer was quite small and nice. I also really enjoyed being able to print from my mobile device as well. However, the first printer had issues with the copy leaving a large streak on every copy I made. The recommended cleaning methods did not work so I returned it. The second one was great for a few months, then the problems began. The printer would repeatedly ask to refill paper cartridge when it was full. The printer would stop printing documents part-way through even leaving half-empty pages. The ink cartridges dry out so fast and are costly. The last straw for me was I replaced the black in cartridge. After that, every document was printing to only about 2/3 of the paper in smaller text to which there was no setting to fix this to print to fit. After running the calibration test for a new ink cartridge, which went fine, everything printed out in red. The streaking for photo copies was also present on this computer, which told me that dust gets into it too easily. I returned it and will not get another HP again. I would not even recommend this to a stranger.

      Hi there,

I'm tremendously sorry to hear about these difficulties you experienced with paper feeding, ink consumption, and poor print quality. I fully understand how disappointing this has been, especially since you've given this printer a go twice now. I want to assure you that we appreciate that loyalty and never take it for granted. With that said, I regret that we didn’t provide you with the reliable experience that we had intended to.

Despite this, I do hope that in the future you'll allow us another opportunity to stand by the quality that we pride ourselves on. We'd be grateful for a chance to make things right and again, my sincerest apologies.

      Take care,

HP 7855 Great printer & Setup

Just brought home the HP7855 after my other HP died after 7 years. Was looking initially at the higher end Espon's and HP's but with service help was convinced to look at the 7855 since it could do photo printing. Not disappointed so far. Install was the easiest I have ever experience and I'm pretty technical. After a few simple settings via the front panel of the printer the rest is completed easily with the new iPhone app via a step by step process. You can also use the app to print from you phone, scan to email and scan to dropbox. Printing is very sharp and not bad for photos. It's not going to replace higher print services but great for basic 4 x 6s and Christmas cards. The printer also came with a 2 month trial of HPs replacement ink service. Since Best Buy has a 30 return policy it's a no brainer to check it out before you commit. Everything is easily setup on-line with HP. Only challenge I had was getting the Printer code. You have to go to the front of the printer, find the web services icon then click printer info. Once I got the code (which was via email) everything was verified. If you want a great printer with plenty of options for a low price this is the one. This is one device that paying more is not alway worth it. Check the on-line reviews as well they all provide high marks as well. Also, if you take you old printer to best buy (even if it is not working) they will give you a coupon for another $15.00 off the sale price. Best Buy is even cheaper than purchasing via Amazon etc. WIN WIN

I used this printer to help make a prop for my daughters ice skating show. It worked great. It prints images very fast. I also printed up a recipe for smoking beef tenderloin and selected the print on both sides option to save paper, and it also printed very past. The "air print" or "direct print" works good too, but I wish there were more options available. It's basically just print and hope it come out right. Now a days, most printers are very close to the same when it comes to quality and speed. I try to select my printers based on current selling price, and how much the replacement ink cartridges cost. This printer being so new, there's no telling what the actual selling price will be, but the MSRP is $199, and no current price on the ink cartridges (HP 64), which are small, and you have just two. One for black, and one for cyan, yellow, magenta. I don't usually like the all in one color cartridge. My wife has school starting back up soon, so we will soon find out how much ink costs, and whether or not it's worth replacing the the ink, or getting a new printer.

For me this has been a good printer for my home office/personal use. It has a lot of usable features and I like the two sided copying feature the most. for not much money it does a good job. I printed a couple of photo's and while I do not expect to use the photo printing very often, the pictures looked very good. The convenience of sending photos to print from my mobil phone worked very well and really wasn't complicated. While not needed, adding the HP app to my phone allowed an additional feature or two for printing options from the phone. I considered some of the other HP printers in the same class or series as this one and I am glad I spent the few extra dollars for the additional features such as the the document feeder. No complaints about printing speed or noise when compared to printers I have had in the past. I like the front loading paper tray. it is rare that I will have a large print job (20 pages or more) but if I did I'm sure it could handle it occasionally. If I printed more on a daily basis I would have looked at printers cable of higher volumes of print work and printing speed which were much more expensive, but for my needs this works very well. Setting up wasn't too bad but I did spend extra time reading about and trying out the features. The LED touch pad screen is easy to figure out when printing directly from the printer or looking up information about the printer. Life expectancy for the ink cartridges are similar to what I had before with an HP printer and this seems to be consistent with printed information from the manufacturer. Happy with my purchase.

I got this printer to replace my HP Photo Smart 6850 printer which I loved. But the part that attaches to the black ink cartridge broke and is non replaceable so the printer is dead. This printer was ok to set up (set up manually) except that the printer carriage kept showing a jam error. Took about half an hour to figure out how to fix it via HP website and several website locations to find the exact instructions, but once found they were easy to understand, both graphics and instructions. I printed about 18 5x7 color photos before the color sample ink cartridge ran out. The same error message about the printer carriage jam appeared again when I installed the new cartridges ( I installed a new black one to match), but I did the same fix and it worked. The color photos on glossy photo paper were ok, although the color was a bit off (too red), but when making color pictures onto regular paper there were obvious white lines at regular intervals throughout the picture . It printed black and white text and color text fine. I think this printer is originally $179.99 - $199.99, on sale for $129.99, and I got an additional 15% off which brought it down to about $110 and change before tax. Now that I know it's not "perfect" set up out the box, has the printer carriage /ink cartridge jam error and has the white lines though out the picture when printed on regular paper, I don't think I would pay more than $90 before tax for it.

2nd HP and continuous problems printing on both.

This is the 2nd HP Printer I've had. The first printer had a different problem and after it was replaced by the manufacturer. The replacement went out 3 months after warranty. 10 days ago, I purchased HP ENVY PHOTO 7855 because the reviews were good on it. Now continuous problems with getting it to print wireless. Have to uninstall and reinstall about ever 3 days to get the computer and printer to recognize each other. Ironically, I can fax from my desktop using the fax with the printer. I have a Windows 7 64-bit. What is more frustrating is I tried to call HP Direct, was in call Que for literally 30 minutes, then music stopped, nothing there, I kept saying hello. Nothing and hung up at 34 mins. The web site live chat is not working. The product update download did not help. Very frustrating . I would not recommend this Printer and will not purchase another HP Printer again!!!! I run a business from home.

This printer is disappointing after my previous printer. The quality of the printed document is fine, could be a little crisper. Had there been paper and toner in the printers on display at Best Buy, I could have tried printing something to see how slow it was and the quality of the printed page. So bought it blind based on reviews and the fact it was on a good sale. The two-sided printing function is really slow and you must manually turn the sheet over to copy even though there is an auto feed function. The sheet pops half way out and then the printer says wait for ink to dry for several seconds, then it will print the second side. Also I Ieave the power on and it keeps going into sleep mode, which means if I need to print something after 10-15 minutes I have to go over to the printer and touch the screen to awaken it and print. I have not tried to print a photo yet. Overall, the printer is just OK, does the job, but not as well as my previous printer.

Basically 1.Unpack it 2.Plug it in 3. Put in the Included Ink Cartridges 4 go to 123.hp.com and install the app on your computer or smartphone and follow the prompts to complete both initial setup and WiFi network setup. (Ethernet as well as a standard printer cable are options if your not wireless ready, but no cable is provided for either) Its a great deal faster than my 4 year old Kodak and relatively quiet as well. Both the photo quality on photo paper as well as maps and text printed on regular paper are of excellent quality and clarity. Easy to wirelessly print from both my iphone and laptop. Scans are fast and crisp and clear. I didn't test the fax capabilities as I have no need to fax, but I would expect equally as good performance as the rest of the printers features The app is a must if you make the error I did on the printer itself in the initial setup. I selected spanish as the language for the printer by mistake and there was no way to reset it that I could find. I had to guess what it the printer was telling me until I went thru the standard expected things that go along with a printer setup and then and only then did the app allow me to select English for the printer's language. Once that was done, the touch screen control pad on the printer updated to english and all was well.

This was a replacement for my ancient HP Photosmart 7760. I had very few issues with it over the course of it's life and used it on a regular basis. I wouldn't say we're heavy users of printers, but my wife prints monthly invoices for her customers so it gets used more than the average household. After 10+ years, it was time to move on. Setup for the new Envy 7855 was pretty painless. HP recommends using their mobile app, which seemed pointless to me. In order for the printer to be discovered, your phone has to be connected to the printer's built-in WiFi vs your home network. The app picked it up fine, but there wasn't a way (if so, not easy to find) to migrate the printer to the home network. That seemed odd to me. Connecting to the home network was easy enough to do from the printer display so the app provided little value. We're using this from MacBooks, so driver installation was painless. It picked the printer up quickly and configuration was minimal. I don't have a Windows PC on which to test, but I'd imagine it'll be straight forward. I've always avoided package software as they always seem to add extra complexity. Print quality is as you'd expect from HP - great color and clarity. We've been using it now for a couple of weeks and I haven't heard any complaints.

I thought it was just my imagination, but I got to sit and try to print pictures again. This printer is supposed to print quality photos. No, no it doesn't. You have to constantly adjust the amount of dry time, I still haven't figured out how. All the pictures that do print, smear. No amount of dry time is enough. Also, the options for print size are limited and in the end of no use. I tried repeatedly to print 4x6 on 4x6 photo paper only to have the printer send it to be printed on 8x10 paper. So not only does it waste ink , it also wastes photo paper. Neither being cheap to buy. I tried getting help on the HP support and only was able to connect to a virtual assistant who can't give anything but 3 generic answers that have nothing to do with the problem I have with the printer. If you want a great scanner and something that prints random papers, you are fine. If you want a printer that gives you a great photo program and good quality photo prints, this is not it. Wish I had realized it sooner so that I can return it and get something better.

Good printer for everyday home office printing but it is terrible for photos. Very few photo adjustments in the menu settings. The LCD touchscreen is very hard to use. You have to download the software drivers from the internet. This does NOT come a software CD in the box. I'm guessing a bean counter at HP decided they could save the company twenty-five cents a printer by not including a software CD. HP markets this unit as a photo printer but it only has a four-color ink system. I updated the printer to the latest firmware and tried all the various settings. I like HP but this thing was a major disappointment. I returned the HP and bought an Epson Expression XP-830 and it is far superior. It uses a five-color ink system and photo quality is excellent. The LCD touchscreen is much easier to use, lots of settings for photo adjustments (lighter/darker, contrast, sharpness, etc.) Epson includes a software CD in the box. Disappointed with HP.

The long story short is that I like it. I did 4 stars because for the money I have had cheaper that were equal to this one. That said, this All-in-One is everything you would need for light personal (or small personal business) use. Printing is fast and quite whether printing in black and white and or color. I probably would not recommend for any heavy use activity because HP ink is not cheap and if you are using color, this thing Non-Laser printer eats cartridges. This is a good thing when printing picture on actual photo paper because they come out beautiful. But for someone whose wife has a thousand printed photos; I do notice that the picture needs to be of very high resolution to come out pristine. I really enjoyed the scanning feature and printing from your mobile device (I highly recommend downloading the HP print app for your phone -very cool). All around in my opinion this is a very solid luxury printer that will do everything you want and more. Again, the amount of use will (imo) dictate your overall opinion.

Since there are a million "all-in-one" printers on the market, it's hard to find something that rises above the competition - but this printer is pretty incredible. It has a tiny footprint (and all the paper loads from the front!!!), it prints paper documents quickly, and photo printing is borderless and extremely crisp. Setup on my smartphone was a breeze. This printer utilizes only two cartridges - one black and one tri-color. I don't know how cost-effective that will be in the long run, but buying individual colors hasn't worked out well for me in the past. I included a picture of me holding a printed picture of my dog - you can see that the printing is truly borderless and really clear - the image looks more like my dog is there than it looks like a picture of my dog.

    Terrible product, terrible instructions

    Posted
    Snowbird

HP is more interested in selling printer ink than quality printers. The set up instructions are terrible and the online help literally consists of hawking the HP printer ink program. The touch screen is not meant for fingers. Touched English and it went to Spanish. It took an hour to correct because there is no screen option to go back and re-select. Tried the on-line HP set up to correct and it kept coming back that it was unsuccessful and to use the printer touch pad. Which by the way was in Spanish. One problem after another in the set up. The computer would not recognize it in the network. Back to the sensitive small screen touch pad. When I finally connected to the internet the test print page would not. The error message was the picture paper tray was not properly set . After several attempts to correct I had had enough. Out of frustration I literally tossed it into a garbage container. Its landing resulted in an un-returnable product. Before destroying it I should have thought about the $129 I wasted . Oh well. This would have been my 3rd HP printer and I should have know better. Never again.

I did not buy this at Best But, but I am so upset I am posting this with all major retailers. I usually only post reviews of items I find exceptional, but this has been so bad I am posting a negative review which is rare for me. I just bought this today. Not my first rodeo with HP, and not a fan of their bloat ware, but I have had serviceable HP printers in the past (I still have a 4L laser working - amazing printer). After installation, I started getting error messages when I tried to print saying I was not connected to "Instant Ink" (which I DID sign up for and am connected to). After searching for a support phone number (Which HP makes it a little hard to find) I was on the phone for hours - talking, getting cut off, promised it would get fixed, getting cut off again (and NEVER called back even though they had my phone number). Nothing was fixed. Garbage. I have had it.

I purchase a new laptop, this HP printer, and updated my wife's laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10, all in the same week. I had no issues installing this printer on my new laptop, but we encountered a lot of trouble installing it on my wife's laptop. I still am not sure how we got it installed, but it's up and running now. The printer itself is nice. It prints relatively fast with nice clean B+W prints. We have not tried color prints yet. but I expect they will be great. This printer replaces an older (8 years) model HP Envy 110. One feature that I like, is the top mounted feeder. To make a copy, or to scan to computer, just put the original into the feeder instead of lifting the cover and placing it on the glass. I would have given this 5 stars if it weren't so difficult installing it on my wife's laptop. Took us half day to accomplish.

As most of all consumers know that HP is the leader of home office printers. These is none the less a homerun printer that will go well with today's technology. Bluetooth, WiFi, Fax, USB small form factor and set-up doesn't take more than 5 mins to get this printer up an running. With or without computer. You can set up using a smartphone (Andriod or Apple) App available. You can even print from your phone!! This comes in handy if you're sent a doc file for a coupon or return label from Amazon. Don't pass up on this printer!! It stows away your paper inside the unit, you can use an SD card in the front of even hook up a flash drive using the touchscreen on the front, you'll be able to select the pictures or documents you need to print without turning on your computer.

I picked this up fully expecting to spend a couple hours (or more) setting up all of the features. However, to my surprise, after about 30 minutes of installing the app on my phone, and entering various bits of information to the printers connectivity settings, as well as HP's on-line parts, I was up and running. I didn't even have to add the printer to my computers. Once it was on my network, all of my machines/devices picked it up and can print to it. I did fine one tiny annoying thing...well, annoying to me...The email --> print function works great. However, after printing the attachment, the printer prints the footer of the email that the attachment came in on. So, if you email a photo to be printed, you'll get the photo and a page printed...and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn that off. But this is nowhere near a big enough deal to make me not recommend this all-in-one. If you're looking for an affordable all-in-one, look no further than this gem.

This is a fantastic printer and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a new photo printer that wants ease of use and peace of mind with it. Setup is a breeze with the HP Smart Printer App which installs on your Tablet, Phone or PC. Instant Ink is awesome if you're like me and don't want to worry about remembering to order new ink when I need it. Loading up paper is simple and it holds both photo paper and regular paper at the same time. All in all, I like the features and the print quality is great in the testing that I have done with some photos and documents. Pros: Easy Setup with App on your PC, Phone or Tablet Quiet operation Fast printing High quality photos Automatic Document Feeder Flatbed Scanner HP Instant Ink Compatible Duplex Printing Easy to use apps that have great features Wireless Cons: Combined Color Cartridge (CMY) No Expanded Ink Colors (not a huge deal as it prints good but would make it print even better than it does)

The print quality is stunning! However, the app only allows 5X7 photos and 8.5X11 plain paper to be chosen, so you can't print any other size photo from a phone. To do that requires a laptop or desktop computer to access the print menu. Issue #2... The salesman told us it would print documents directly from a flash drive. No, it won't, only pictures. Again, a computer is required to print documents. That is a deal breaker. The salesman should have known better. He also told us that the printer supplies it's own WiFi so our home system wouldn't be used. WRONG. The phone or computer and the printer have to be connected to the same system. So now I have to box the thing back up and take it back, then try to find another printer.
