The HP Envy seems to be all talk without being able to back it up. First off lets talk about the basics. Right out of the box you are going to receive the printer, phone line, a few pieces of glossy photo paper and a power line. Note that there is no usb cable provided for a direct line to your PC. The HP Envy likes to focus around the ability to be wireless, so hopefully your PC is built in wireless ready, if not no big deal just use your old USB cable from your old printer and go through all the necessary set ups. Speaking of set ups the calibration that is done for the ink is quick and fast. HP also provides you with an app for you android or apple phone that will allow you to print directly off your phone. This part is actually done pretty well, set up is easy through your phone and once completed there is a list of options available at your fingertips. Through the app you can print up photos from your phone or Facebook directly. You can also scan documents and send them via email or fax from your phone to your printer. You can also order ink through the app or even set yourself up for a monthly service plan where you will be delivered cartridges monthly for a small fee. Setting up the printer through my phone was fast and took about 2 mins, setting it up wireless to my main PC was a different story however. The PC and printer would not recognize each other even though the printer was already set up and connected to the same WiFi as my desktop. I ended up having to actually find the printers ISP address and manually enter it to my desktop to get them to link up. Once this was established there was a bunch of software updates that needed to be done in order for my desktop to use this printer as its primary output source. What i don't understand is why it took 2 minutes for my phone to link up and it took my PC about 15 minutes. Anyways lets talk about the real reason for buying this printer, and that is its ability to print documents and so called high quality photos. Now this printer can scan and fax just like any other printer with no issues so far, however its printing capabilities is a different story. I printed several photos that i had taken with my kids and each and every time the photo printed out it was always cropped too short and the bottom of the photo was always blurry almost as if the ink had smeared. I tried re-calibrating the printer, different size photo paper and even different photos itself. I tried messing with the settings and no matter what i did the photos were always cut short and smeared at the bottom. On top of that the quality of the photo was mediocre at best. My old printer printed out photos that looked better then these ones. I have to say for this printer being a new series in the Envy line up i really expected good quality photos and to my dismay i was very disappointed. Now as far as documents go, ya it prints them just fine. But i would hope so cause if it couldn't even print up documents properly then this product would be pointless. Also one other thing i forgot to mention is that the printer has glitches. There were several times in just one day where i could not print because the screen on the printer kept glitching out. It was all blurred and kept flashing on and off. I had to reset this printer several times just to get it to work. Here's the bottom line, if your looking for a basic printer that can print documents, fax and scan then sure this will do fine assuming the glitches don't hold you back. But if your looking to truly utilize the photo side of the printer then i would suggest looking else where until HP can fix this issue through future updates. Pros: -easy to use app with a quick set up -wireless Cons: -Glitches -Average quality photo printing -Inconsistent photo printing with bottom edges blurring and not cropping properly -no USB cable or software disk provided

If you're like me setting up a new printer isnt exactly fun and/ or easy. Well unfortunately this printer was no exception to that. It was hard and very frustrating. I started the setup using the quick start guide unpacking the printer, connecting the power cord, and the USB cable (which was not included, but thankfully I had one from my other printer). The quick guide tells you to download the HP smart app for the set up which I did. Once powered on it automatically started the setup process with a message on my PC telling me it was setting up. This was the only part that went easily. After this I started the setup on the app. It tells you to make sure the printer is on and on the correct network which makes no sense because the setup for the Wifi had not even come up yet. So I moved back over to the printer and selected language, location, etc. Then back into the app to try to get the process started. The app found the printer, but would not connect to it. I tried several times making sure all the passwords were the same, etc. I just kept getting errors in the app so I decided to just connect to my PC via USB rather than wirelessly. The printer continued its set up printing a calibration page, installing drivers, and the HP app. This completely the initial set up. But of course I still wanted to be able to print wirelessly from my phone and laptop so I went back into the printers Wifi settings to connect manually to my network. Thankfully I was able to connect to the network after it found it in the “search for network” setup. But this was the only time it connected. Ill explain in a bit. So I decided on my phone to try the HP service plug in app to be able to print from my phone since the HP smart app wasnt connecting. I had turned the printer off and back on and from then on it would not connect to any network. I assumed since I had already successfully connected to my Wifi network previously it would just reconnect to that network. Well it didnt. I went into the printers settings and it said it was not connected. So I tried to reconnect. No matter what I tried after that it would not get passed the “searching for Wireless networks”. It would just get stuck at that setting no matter how long I waited. I tried a reboot, unplugging it, and even a full factory reset and no matter what it would not find any available networks despite there being at least 10. All my other devices have no issue finding and connecting, but just to make sure I even rebooted my router. So at this point I have no idea what to try as far as the network and wireless printing goes. I tried the help page it lists on the guide but the page doesnt exist since the printer is too new at the time of this review. And I was not able to even get chat help to attempt to fix this because there isnt a valid support page for this item yet. I tried to find other ways to get help via chat, but the page to get there makes you verify the model and serial number, and again since this printer is so new it said the info was invalid. So at this point needless to say I was very frustrated. Thankfully the printer prints great via USB though. I was amazed at how fast it printed both color and black and white pages. So its great for that. Maybe the one I have is defective. Not sure, but as of now its just a basic printer when connected via USB.

I'll begin by saying that after spending a couple of days with this printer, I had no problem with it hardware wise at all. The setup went well, connected to my wifi, set up the downloadable smartphone app, hooked it up with various devices in the house. One of the first things i tried was the scan function, since I've had problems with that in prior HP printers. No issues here. Using photo paper, sent images from the smartphone to the printer, very good quality. So what's the problem? The issue is, I hadn't gotten through the first day when I got a message "10 days ink left." How's it know that? Well, it counts pages. I guess the best way to describe it is that this is a locked printer. It forces you to buy in to the HP Ink Now program. You sign into the program, and it automatically sends you ink when they think you need it. There are two cartridges in the printer - a black and a muliticolor. They also offer various options - either send you the pertinent cartridge as it depletes, or monthly options for $5, $10, etc. depending on the amount of pages you normally use. I have a problem with this. I have a big problem with this. Does it remind you of something? Maybe buying phone minutes? Gigs of data? I searched Google and I don't see cartridges for this printer anywhere. You're forced into this online arrangement with HP. We all know ink is expensive - i've seen people do the math, and it comes to thousands of dollars per quart. More expensive than any other liquid you can buy except for maybe some exotic pharmaceuticals. I like to bargain shop - printer ink doesn't go on sale often, but there are deals. Sometimes 10 or 20% off, if you're lucky, maybe a buy one get one deal. But with the arrangement that comes with this printer, you're locked into sole source. And i don't like sole source - anything. Now some may see this as convenient - it takes care of itself, no trips to the store, etc. I see your point, but I just don't look at it that way. Lastly, this printer comes in at $199 list price. Printers are normally discounted since once you buy it, they know you have to buy their ink. But since this printer comes with what is essentially a mortgage, they should actually be giving it away for free!

Although my overall impression of this over-hyped printer is lukewarm at best, it does have its benefits that are briefly listed below: -Very easy set up, 10 minutes max. -Control and panel display are very useful and easy to maneuver. -Apps are superfluous but fun, especially if you have little ones you need to entertain. -Prints very quickly. -USB and SIM ports are tucked away but accessible, and are covered with a small flap to keep away dust and other particles. The cons are the reasons I’m returning it today, after 2 weeks of use: -my main issue is print quality. I like to use purchased items for a couple of weeks before I decide if they’re keepers. This isn’t. The docs I’ve printed are DULL-at first I thought the paper may have been a factor, but I specifically bought HP printer paper that the salesperson highly recommended for quality document printing, but it didn’t matter. I’ve printed about 20 pages because I also thought the ink needed time to adjust. Still, the letters were dull in both, black and color. -The quality of photos were horrendous. I’ve never had a printer that printed such cheap looking pictures. I printed two 8x10 photos of shots in Ireland. The clouds ended up gray, literally, the mountains looked muddy, the water, almost black. It should have been a dark blue, as shown in the picture I actually took and on my monitor where I printed it from. In addition, there were faint but visible quadratic lines all over the page. This too was printed on HP photo paper, so I’m not sure if that came from the printer or paper. -scans are also light colored once transferred to computer. My other printers didn’t scan so faintly. I could barely see the text. Other reasons for disliking the piece weren’t a big deal, but annoying. Had the machine printed well, I could have handled its quirks: -It’s just loud. -It’s bulky and looks outdated. -Too many adjustments for paper trays. -The structure just feels cheap. The material on son’s toys are far more solid. Again, the quality on regular and paper prints was beyond sub-par. I’ll try a different HP model after returning this one, but if I get the same result I’m going with a different brand. Initially, I was so excited to buy this expensive (for me) thing, so my disappointment is a total. bummer.

I thought it was just my imagination, but I got to sit and try to print pictures again. This printer is supposed to print quality photos. No, no it doesn't. You have to constantly adjust the amount of dry time, I still haven't figured out how. All the pictures that do print, smear. No amount of dry time is enough. Also, the options for print size are limited and in the end of no use. I tried repeatedly to print 4x6 on 4x6 photo paper only to have the printer send it to be printed on 8x10 paper. So not only does it waste ink , it also wastes photo paper. Neither being cheap to buy. I tried getting help on the HP support and only was able to connect to a virtual assistant who can't give anything but 3 generic answers that have nothing to do with the problem I have with the printer. If you want a great scanner and something that prints random papers, you are fine. If you want a printer that gives you a great photo program and good quality photo prints, this is not it. Wish I had realized it sooner so that I can return it and get something better.

This printer works great... when it works. It's fast and produces very nice quality prints, and the scan function is great (haven't used it as a fax yet). The downside is that I'm using it wirelessly and it frequently refuses to print for no apparent reason. I consider myself pretty self-sufficient for these sorts of issues, but this printer and the supporting software are difficult to use for troubleshooting. Also, the touch screen controls are overly insensitive (you have to mash the little screen to get it to respond). Overall, the functions and features on this printer are great, but after using it for a while, I remain frustrated by how much trouble it is just to get it to work most of the time.

    Disappointed!

The printer has a couple of pros: easy set up, quiet, prints quickly. Now to the cons: was told by the Best Buy employee that it comes with full ink cartridges - not the case, had to buy a new color cartridge after printing only 2 pictues and the picture quality is very subpar. I sometimes have to print pictures multiple times (in multiple different settings) before it actually prints correctly. The pictures that do print are not as crisp as I would like them. Many of my pictures require a lot of editing before the color looks right on them (when I print) - I've never had to do that with other printers. Wish I was still within my deadline to return this printer. If you are looking for a printer, that prints quality looking pictures, this isn't it. I don't even want it to print that many pictures and it still can't do it. Disappointed in this printer.

Prints great, had sign up and was told at purchase if we brought back a trade in would get additional 15% off, we did then people on duty said no we got printer for such good sale price would not honor that, sales girl has even checked w/mgmt n signed our receipt on day we did it, but my old printer stopped working so had no choice but to keep it. Would not hook up to my HP computer so had to call HP get help and they said had to update drivers and charged me 99.00 but did it get working wireless then it stopped working again 2 weeks later so can only use it via USB cable. Maybe time to cut ties with HP and Best Buy. Not happy

Poor photo print quality and annoying

    Posted
    Shmeed

Not as good as my old Photosmart 6520. B/W & color prints on regular paper are okay but photo print quality is subpar. Color is off. Had to clean the printheads with the first photo prints I tried when the printer was less than a month old just to get it to print full color. What's annoying is that it prints a sheet with an error message of a power failure every time I turn the printer on, so I have to wait and cancel the print. Even more annoying is the constant popups saying I need to add paper, when I don't, and to buy ink from HP when I don't want to. I would rather buy a different brand printer than to be forced to pay for a service that I don't want. At the very least, be professional and accept my no as a no and leave it at that.

I was excited to get this product because I needed a printer. Initial setup was easy and the online capabilities seemed promising. After a few hours of standby mode, I got the blue screen of death on the touch screen. I thought it was a power outage because a storm just went by, but it happened again while I was just sitting there on the computer. Regretting the decision to buy a high-end printer and just should have bought the standard for what it's good for.

      Hey there,

While it's great to hear that the printer was working well for the first 2 months, I'm so sorry that you've been seeing some issues with wireless connectivity and off-quality prints. I understand this is affecting your ability to print reliably, so I'd love to see how I can help resolve this for you.

First, I suggest taking the recommended steps in this 'Offline Printer' document:
      - Windows: support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04249080
      - Mac: support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04249334

As a supplement to that, this link will guide you through solutions for a wide range of other wireless issues: hp.dezide.com/ts/start.jsp?guide=Printer_Does_Not_Maintain_Wireless_Connection.net

Then, with what you've described, it sounds like the lined prints can be attributed to a print quality issue. That said, the following document should help provide some improvements: support.hp.com/document/c05541385

As the title says, the ink cartridge lasts a very short time making printing extremely expensive. The screen for functions is so small and the key are not sensitive enough to touch making it difficult to carry out tasks, especially when in a hurry. Hi,

I am very sorry that the setup was so difficult. I hope that if we can solve the paper feeding, you will like this better.

The paper guides have to be set very precisely, and maybe cleaning the rollers or a printer reset might help. There are several possible solutions to paper feeding problems in this online document: support.hp.com/document/c05537987

If that doesn't make it better, you can always contact us: hp.com/contactHP

"ALL-in-one" printer does not come with software for setting up scanner. HP wants $$ for assistance to manually setup. Wireless goes to "sleep" and requires shutting down and restarting printer to PRINT from computer! Same crap as the last HP I traded in!

Bought this for my son to use at college. Worked for a while with his laptop but then wouldn’t stay connected. Could be a Windows 10 issue but it’s the second HP printer I’ve had issues with. Brought it home but haven’t tried it here.

Photos print out too dark, not crisp and clear like my last HP printer. I am very disappointed. Also, once in awhile the lights in front start blinking and a strange blue screen appears on the printer and it is offline.

Did not have in store so had to order. Got it about four days later. Tried hooking it up but there was a major problem. Called HP service and wound up sending the unit back and had to wait to get a replacement after paying an additional $25

      Hi,

I'm very sorry for the inconvenience of having to return the printer. I hope the replacement is everything you were hoping for!

Just to clarify, HP does not charge for support and returns on printers within the warranty period. What you paid was probably expedited shipping.
