Looking For A Laptop That Runs WoW? Here It Is!

    Posted .

To be honest, my primary purpose for buying this laptop was so that I could play World of Warcraft with my son. I am not rich, so I could not afford a so-called "gaming computer." I searched through countless reviews of laptops in search of one that could run WoW, but would not force me to sell my house in order to buy it. Not many reviews turned out to be helpful, so I went to my local Best Buy and spoke with a sales representative. After hearing my story, and researching the requirements of WoW, he pointed me to this laptop. What a great suggestion! I have owned this computer for five months, and have not had one issue with it. World of Warcraft is a fairly demanding game, as far as graphics and processing speed are concerned, and this laptop rises to the challenge. Does it get a little warm? Sure, after about four or five hours of playing. Has it ever slowed down, or shut off on me? Never. This laptop performs better than I could have ever expected for having such a low price tag. In addition to playing WoW, I watch movies, play music, surf the net, and use it for some work applications. No problems with any of those either. All of this is done wirelessly, I might add. The speed is just fine. I do have one complaint, however. The power cord inserts on the right-side of the computer, as opposed to the back. Being right-handed, this tends to interfere with the movement of my mouse, but it's really not that big of a deal. Bottom line, if you are looking for an inexpensive laptop that will run WoW, and allow you to do what I previously mentioned; buy this one.

This is a great find at a great price.

This is a great find at a great price. I got this over the holidays and after researching several laptops under the $600 price range, I settled on this one. Granted, like most other reviews here, this is a budget laptop and it has a few minor short-falls, like the touchpad buttons being stiff, the body being too "plastic", and the battery life. I overlooked these short-falls due to the i3 processor it had - there aren't too many laptops out there at this price range with this bad-boy installed! I got an optical mini-usb mouse (for around $20) to avoid using the touch-pad buttons, and I tweaked the power settings when I'm on battery only which really helps a lot. I am able to push 2.5 hours with my screen at 50% brightness, with wifi turned on, running several programs, using a custom power saving mode. You can get more hours by turning off wifi, not using any usb devices, using one program at a time, etc. The memory is the minimum I needed for pushing graphics, 3 gigs. Being expandable to 8 gigs is a sweet deal and I plan to upgrade the RAM down the road to get the most out this machine. The 15.6 inch screen is beautiful, I love the details in pixel quality, however, the speakers are average laptop speakers. If you want better sound, just get some decent earphones like Skull Candy or other quality speakers/headset and the sound improves dramatically. A media card reader and HDMI are a plus! Portability was another huge factor for me - I use this for business and personal work, so I lug it around a lot and doesn't weigh me down. The fan is fairly quiet, I don't notice it anymore when its on. As far as speed, I have Adobe CS5 installed and all the programs run smooth. Games are an issue, but I am playing Spore on it with the software settings, and it runs smooth as well. It launches most programs well, and I have not had a single crash with Windows 7 - which is awesome by the way. For a budget laptop, with all the goodies it comes with, specifically the 2.4 Ghz Intel Core i3 370M Processor, this is a great bargain for under $550!! I even like the Biscotti color and raised pattern detail on the shell.

Great laptop but UNEVEN KEYBOARD !!!

    Posted .

I rated this laptop 4 stars wanted to give it 5 stars but UNEVEN KEYBOARD, CALC Key & design of this laptop made me rate it 4. This is a awesome laptop for Great price.I love the i3 processor, it's speedy as hell compared to all the Amd/Intel processors in the same price range. This is my second laptop I returned the 1st one cuz of uneven keyboard(same model) but too bad 2nd one is the same too(ordered online) .I went to best buy and looked @ all the G series Biscotti models and all of them have uneven keyboard I don't know if it's DEFECT or whatever (No this is not ergonomic keyboard lol).If u look it from front view not top view u can clearly see it that ASDF side (left side) of keyboard is warped .I hate the CALC key . I'm used to CTRL key a lot and I keep pressing the CALC key instead of CTRL key. HP did a very poor job on designing this laptop. The trackpad is awful and its so stiff that i feel it I might break it soon lol ( I did change the mouse setting in CP but it's still stiff) .The webcam and speakers r ok quality for a laptop. 10/100 LAN sucks i wish they put at least a GIG LAN .I love the HDMI port . I connected this to my 1080p sharp and HD videos look stunning :) Overall this is a great laptop for the price but still can't believe HP did a shameful job in designing this laptop.

    Fast

    Posted .

I installed total 8GB of RAM into this and it got a lot faster. (It was fast enough without upgrading RAM.) 4GB DDR3 RAM is getting cheper now. So if you want to make the speed of this budget laptop faster, maximize the RAM. As mentioned by others, the mouse pad is not good. But I use a wireless mouse for more productivity even if it had a very good mouse pad.

    Great for the price

I mainly use this as a remote desktop, web browser, etc. It does all of this very well. I've only seen it slow down once and that was because Windows was running some updates at the same time that I was doing other stuff. So it's almost to be expected. It's dual core and HT, so it shows up as four cores in taskmgr. It only has 3GB of RAM and I just can't justify spending the money to upgrade to 4 or 6, and especially not 8. Hard drive is only 320GB, but I have been using an 80GB laptop for the past 6 years... I wasn't so sure I'd like the color/texture of the case, but it isn't bad. I don't really consider it a work of art and I didn't buy it for that. If you want that, spend 5x as much and get an Apple. You can't smudge it, no fingerprints, etc. Screen doesn't hold fingerprints at all. I hate fingerprints and smudges, so that's a definite plus for me. Touchpad for mouse takes a little getting used to. It is flush with the casing around the keyboard. If you're not careful, you can rest your hand on the pad and move the mouse. It isn't a big deal to me. At least the buttons aren't the same way. My wife complains about it though. (Maybe she should buy her own computer instead of using mine for solitaire.) I'd have liked a Bluray player, but I'm not that concerned with it. I have a PS3 for the home and the standard DVD format is still the standard, so that's not a big deal at all. Summary: Excellent for the price. Processor is well ahead of what's needed for daily activities (and probably the average user). I don't game with it, but a gamer would know to step up to an i5 at least, and probably an i7. This CPU inflicts shame on my desktop 3.2GHz AM2 x2 (and this is a mobile processor for better battery life... scores about 30% to 50% better depending on the test... just astonishing to me). I caught it on sale when I bought it and paid about 200 less than what it was retailing at the time. I'd do it again if I could. I do not regret it at all. Still not seen an i3 notebook selling for less than what I paid.

    Great Laptop! Nearly Flawless!

    Posted .

This laptop was my third laptop after two minis, the screen is big and beautiful! I use it everyday for everyday computing, and I love it! I put the performance as 'good' not 'excellent' only because if you have too many windows open it will start to slow down. It took me less than 5 minutes to set up after I took it out of the box. It has a textured face, which I love but I know others wouldn't like that as much as smooth. My only concern was at first how it was a little tough to push down the touch pad. After only 3 days though, it loosened up. GREAT LAPTOP!

    Good laptop for the price!

    Posted .

I got this on a "Friday Special" right before Christmas for a fantastic price, and am very pleased. I just spent the day tweaking it and that has improved the performance and speed considerably. Out of the box, I was initially disappointed with the display. I changed the power setting to "high performance" and the display went from mediocre to very good. I'm sure this will shorten battery time but that is not an issue for me. The speakers are adequate, if you customize the settings via the control panel. Use headphones with your movies and there will be no problems at all. Now...there are some issues with Win 7, but taking the time to tweak the settings will be time well spent. I highly recommend checking out howtogeek[dot]com for many helpful hints! The webcam is disappointing--ghosting with movement--but I have yet to check on customizing those settings, so that is not a definitive assesment. The biscotti finish [med dark bronze] is nice and no fingerprints! Lid flexes some though, so get a well-padded sleeve. Touchpad is ok, but an optical mouse with mini-usb is the way to go. All in all, a very nice laptop for the price.

    Ok Notebook - Killer Price

    Posted .

Meets my expectations at a price I haven't seen anywhere else. I use it to run pretty much standard office type applications (Office, email, web) when I'm travelling. I replaced a Compaq Presario V3000 running Windows XP to get a larger display and, I hoped, better speed. The display is larger but, with Windows 7 Home premium, speed is about the same. I think that if I can get all the junk software that HP loads onto the product, it will be more responsive. The short trial period Norton Internet Security is particularly irritating and difficult to remove/replace. Battery life is about an hour longer.

    Froze on first day

    Posted .

Ok. I decided to upgrade my computer from a laptop I purchased May of 2009. I decided on this laptop because it was cheaper then my first laptop which was a Gateway M series. As soon as UPS dropped the box off on my door step, I had it running in less then 30 minutes. I began checking out the new windows 7 features and all the upgrade difference from the windows Vista. I was having so much fun. You would not believe what happend next. The laptop just froze on me. I could not believe it. So then as shocked as I was I decided to go ahead and call the HP tech support. I told the tech what happend and he told me some weired scientific reason why it froze. Something about the molecues in the computer not operating correctly or something of that nature. I was just lost and confused. I had my gateway for 2 years and not once did I ever have to call tech support. I have dropped my laptop so many times and I still never called tech support. I felt as I was in a dream or something.. Ok back to story.... After rebooting my computer as the tech told me to, which to me made no sense that I had to reboot a brand new out of the box computer. I continued checking out the features of the laptop. Then later on today I decided to call Bestbuy and let them know what happend with my laptop. I was told to return it to the store to exchange it for the same computer. The coustomer rep. told me I only had 14 days to return it, from the day the laptop shipped, and not when I recieved the laptop. I guess that is what I will do, I will exchange it for the same one. If the next one does the same, then I might just get a diffrent HP computer that cost more or just switch to Toshiba.

It's fast, inexpensive and does all I want it to.

This laptop was a great investment, especially since I got it on sale. It's fast - great for my video games and downloads. Plus, it's super-light and extremely portable. The mouse click was sticky at first and it took some getting used to the pad, but that isn't a problem anymore. I waited for a good sale for several months, and I found just what I wanted in this laptop.

    Good value, great deal

    Posted .

This laptop does everything I need, which isnt a whole lot, but it has great features like built in wireless, core i3 processor, HDMI and a built in web cam. Mouse touch pad can be a little quirky but I use a wireless mouse anyway. This is my first laptop so I have nothing to compare it to but it seems pretty sturdy and reliable so far.

    Great laptop for the Price

    Cheap laptop, does its job!

    Posted .

Easy to use. I reinstalled Windows 7 on it and it's pretty fast for the specs. Gets hot, and battery life drains rather fast; however, I keep it plugged in most of the time, so it's not a problem there. The HDMI port is excellent! I can hook it up to the TV and play internet videos on the TV with no problem, easy hookup and setup. Overall, very satisfied.

Good buy for the price, but it is slow

    Posted .

It is an excellent value for the money. But I just thought the i3 core will be little faster than what it is. I still like it and feel its a good buy. However, it is for people who don't run too many applications on it. I got it for my uncle, and I know he is not going to run heavy apps on it. So it is perfect for him.

Solid, but get a wireless mouse

    Posted .

I purchased this as a gift for my parent...first laptop and first computer, in fact. I am pleased overall, with the exception of the touchpad. It's borders are not clearly defined, and the only reason he knows you can scroll is because I told him my laptop touchpad had that feature. It was so difficult to operate I found myself completely irritated within five minutes of using it. I purchased him a wireless.mouse and it was instantly a worthwhile computer and a good investment. It also came with an Office trial that only included Word and Excel. I got him a free trial from the website that at least had Outlook so he could see what programs he would really use.

    This thing is fast!

    Posted .

I got this CPU on sale and am amazed at the speed of the i3 processor. It is one fast machine for the price. It has blazing speed even when you're doing 3 or 4 things at once like listening to music, downloading a program, and surfing the internet at the same time. I'm impressed! The only complaint I would have it that it comes with too much useless software, but you can uninstall it if you don't want it.
