Like it, with a couple issues

    Posted .

This is a nice computer that is obviously built well. I love the large screen, and everything looks great. It has run buttery smooth so far, and no issues. I was told this normally retails for $1200, but I got it for less than $500. It doesn't come with a lot of bloatware, but it doesn't come with Microsoft Office either. It works great for surfing the Net. The biggest drawback for me was the touchpad/mouse. It's really frustrating and takes a lot of attention to use...also the sound level is not very loud, even with headphones and the volume all the way up. Those would be the main drawbacks-- and the large size makes it not as portable. But it has lots of connectors and a high quality feel to the keyboard. I like it a lot.

    Great...but not at $629

I picked up this laptop for 499.99 just this last week after a couple of weeks of research. I was initially leaning towards getting one with at the least an i3-370m processor. But based on some of the reviews I came across, unless you are an avid gamer or someone who runs very demanding programs such as video editing etc., a P6100 processor is perfectly adequate. Pro's: Extremely generous display area (though I beleive there are laptops with 17.3in with higher resolutions). It plays 720p HD with no problem whatsoever Large keyboard with a number keypad on the side Very light-weight for a laptop of this screen-size. Con's: The Biscotti color is somewhat TOO sober for my liking. But again, thats just a personal taste issue. The webcam isnt the greatest. Overall, this is a great buy at any price below $550. Once you get used to this screen size, it would be hard to downsize. So be prepared to be hookedon to big screen-laptops. Cheers!

    Excellent Laptop for the Money!

    Posted .

This laptop was purchased to be my main home computer for my freelance writing career. I do not take it with me anywhere, so I can't speak as to mobility. I have had it one week , and so far I am more than pleased with it. It does everything I need it to do and more. I agree however with the other reviewers who have stated that the buttons on the trackpad are sub-par. It has been a little difficult getting used to having to push down so hard on the button. Get used to double clicking on the touchpad instead of using the buttons. Also, the sound from the built in speakers is not wonderful and so far I haven't been able to locate an equalizer. That said, I really haven't had a laptop in which I have been happy with the sound, so I think the quality is almost what I expected in that respect. If sound is important, you will need to buy external speakers. As far as operation however, this laptop stays cool to the touch, is very quiet, and I am able to stream tv shows from Hulu without a hitch. This is my first HP and my experience with them over Dell has convinced me to never go back to Dell again. My Dell Inspirion over heats, I've had to have Dell replace the power supply 3 times, as welll as other majorly annoying issues. If you own a Dell Inspirion, RUN, don't walk, to your nearest Best Buy and get this laptop as a replacement while it is on sale for $500. Original price is $600. You will be very pleased. The larger monitor is excellent as well. I don't think I will ever be able to go back to the smaller 15.6 screen. And this laptop is much lighter than my much smaller Dell Inspirion, which I greatly appreciate. As well as the battery lasting much, MUCH longer. Dell battery would last 2 hours if lucky, this one lasts 4+, however I suppose that would be diminished a bit if you are using it for gaming, which I do not at all. All in all, great laptop, and I am online here to place an order for another one for my wife for in-store pick up this evening!

    What's not to like?

    Posted .

I bought mine yesterday when the price was $500. For that price this was a no-brainer of a purchase. Best Buy wants to upsell these with their customization services but the salesguy I talked with in the store was very helpful when I explained that didn't need those services and he was happy to give me an unmodified one straight from HP. Out of box experience was great. Just enough stuff to get started. No huge books I won't read, etc. The touch-pad is great and those awful stickers you get all over new laptops were easy to remove. I like the rough texture of the case, it resists fingerprints. The keyboard has nice tactile keys that seem to be decent enough quality - I like that they're full size for my big fingers. Wi-Fi on this is a snap. The screen is so gorgeous I still have the protective plastic on it. Battery life isn't close to the advertised life but it does charge very fast and it's probably due to me running everything full screen, streaming HD over the wireless a lot, etc. This is a great all around machine - it easily does everything I want a desktop to do. I'm not a gamer and I don't do heavy lifting but I do rip DVDs, edit video for You Tube etc, run Open Office, there's plenty of power for running virtual machines in the background, etc. I think for $629 there might be better deals but for the $500 price they were selling it for last week, it really was a 'Best Buy' pardon the pun...

    Excellent for the Price

    Posted .

I have been an advid computer user now for over 25 years, teaching computer classes both in my local computer club and privately in homes. I've worked many different types and brands so I consider myself a good judge of most computer things. I knew I had to purchase a laptop to replace my desktop but financially this time I couldn't spend the money on a "real customized" laptop. I have looked and looked and when going to Best Buy, saw the HP G70 series, I felt that there was a strong possibility of buying this one because of what it had to offer and the price. Even better when I decided on the HPG72, the price had gotten lower yet. It has all the bells and whistles I needed and plenty of hard drive and ram, along with the webcam so I can Skype my granddaughter and family across the US. Best of all, Windows 7. At first I thought it might be a little heavy because it had the 17.3 screen but actually its not as heavy as my last laptop. At first placing my figures over further to the left because of the number pad on the right, got me frustrated but it didn't take me long to adjust. I love the number pad and now I probably wouldn't have one without it. I recommend always to buy at least a 2-year warranty because you never know what happens; many people don't and they are very sorry.

Excellent Value for above average laptop!!!

Purchased this computer the day after Christmas for under $450. This unit replaced my compaq c714nr which caught on fire a week ago and burned out the lcd screen. I was looking for a pc that would cost less than a $500 and still be fast enough for some basic multitasking. This is more than a budget PC. The LED graphics are amazing. The sound is great. The processor is perfect for word processing, surfing internet, multitasking, etc. The touchpad is very smooth and responsive. This unit also did not come with a lot of bloatware which makes startup smooth. It is a very solid machine. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND FOR GAMING!

    Excellent value

I bought this laptop after doing alot of research and comparison shopping. I've had great luck with HP computers so that's why I went with this brand. The display is incredible and the speed is plenty fast. I use the pc for net surfing and work which is done on excel/word. These programs didn't come preinstalled but the pc only cost $580 so I didn't expect it to come 'fully loaded'. Some reviewers complained about the touchpad. I like the touchpad on this computer because it's hidden (contributes to the nice look of the pc). It only took about 10 minutes to get used to it after I read the user's manual which is loaded on the pc. I did buy a Logitech wireless mouse (I love this little mouse!) to use with the pc when I'm actually sitting at a desk as opposed to just using the pc in my lap. The look of the pc is nice, too. The description online says the color is biscotti but it's actually like a charcoal gray--it's very sleek looking.

    Great!

I really like this Laptop. So far the only things I can see as CONS are the mousepad and the keys. The mouse pad is too bumpy and not very well defined. It doesnt make the use of it difficult, I just dont like it. I ended up getting a wireless laptop mouse so I don't use it anymore. I like that you can turn off the touchpad when youre not using it. I found that when I was typing and it was on, my hand would hit the touchpad and relocate the cursor. The keyboard itself is nice size, I just dont like the keys. They seems too close together and I end up hitting a couple at a time. Its rare, but it happens. All in all, I can NOT complain about this computer or its performance. It was a great deal at $499.99. I would recommend!

takes some getting used to, at least for me

    Posted .

This is a replacement for a 5 year old laptop. I like the larger, brighter display, better wi-fi reception, longer battery life and cooler running. The touchpad is somewhat frustrating. We have not successfully figured out how to stop it opening windows, etc. if the cursor lingers half a breath too long over something - or seemingly" just because". It also, inspite of attempts to adjust speed and other settings, tends to suddenly fly down a page. Something in the new system cannot cope with my printer - each time I detach/reattach or shut off/turn on the printer, or the computer is re-started, it downloads a driver yet again. Deleting copies of the printer does not always result in a fix. I have to keep figuring out "which" printer is actually ready to print, as the laptop cannot seem to detect which copy/original printer is default, on or ready. While we are keeping this laptop, and trying to cope with the idiosyncracies, I would only recommend it with hesitation.

Nice Laptop For An Excellent Price!

    Posted .

I recently bought this laptop for my mom as a Christmas gift! The price was less than 500.00 and who could complain about that. Nice bright 17.3 screen, enough memory & HD space for what she is going to be doing. This computer is great for someone who is going to surf the net & multitask! I would suggest that you do get another mouse because I do agree that the mouse keys are hard to use. I did buy her a wireless mouse & she has no complaints!

Great for on the go use

    Posted .

I looked at many computers before finally choosing this laptop. I have been using it for about a month now and love all the features. It is good for daily use, games and movies. The screen size and quality makes it really nice to play games or movies. The battery life is very good making it nice to travel with. Another nice feature is that it is easy to wake up from the sleep mode. Unlike most computers it only takes seconds for this one to become alert and ready to work again.

A great laptop for the money

    Posted .

I mainly use my computer for surfing and uploading videos, and this laptop is great for that. A nice, big screen and all the ports you'll need. All the remarks about the buttons on the trackpad are true. It's very hard to use. I'm trying to get used to double-tapping the trackpad rather than having to mash down on the button, but it's taking some getting used to. The arrow keys also take some getting used to, as they are much smaller than the normal buttons. My former HP laptop (DV9005) had full sized arrow keys at the cost of a smaller shift key on the right side. This one has a full sized shift key and small arrow buttons. This is just a muscle-memory thing and once you get used to tapping the smaller buttons you'll forget all about it. I like the lighter material they made this computer out of and it seems to run cooler than other laptops I've had. Overall it's great for $500.

    Valuable quick solution.

I had to purchase this Laptop on an emergency basis. My PC died. This Laptop was the lowest priced model from a reputable manufacturer. I really have no complaints about this unit, The only gripe I have is all the HP installed garbage like the HP Advisor. The worst. I downloaded some updates that the HP Advisor stated were necessary and had to restore the PC back to what it was before the download. Ended up UnInstalling the HP Advisor. Besides that it's a great deal for simple internet access and small volume work. I also had to uninstall the Roxio Software and the CyberLink software to view DVDs. Garbage. The CAM is also a disapointment, CyberLink constantly flashing ads to upgrade.

Best laptop I've ever had (and I've had a lot!)

    Posted .

I was planning on buying a new laptop online because my Toshiba laptop with Vista died (thank goodness). Best Buy had this on sale for $499.99 which I really appreciate because I was kinda broke. Long story short, this laptop is perfect in every way and Windows 7 has NONE of the MANY problems that Vista has. If this laptop ever comes up short, I will come back online and update. So 10/10 to hp and Best Buy.

    Bang for your buck

    Posted .

I have had this laptop for about a month now and must say that I think that after all my research that I have done, that this computer is the best bang for your buck on the market right now. For the price that you pay for this type of laptop, you get a really good size screen (17.3), good graphics, and a full keyboard with number pad. With the exception of not having a full version of Office installed (you must get separately, but does come with Office starter kit) This computer is great for anyone that is on a budget, in college, or always on the go with their job. I would highly recommend this laptop to all of my friends and family.

    Best Value for the Money

Can't beat this laptop for the money, has more features than other brands that cost more. Large display, separate number keypad, HDMI output, Altec Lansing speakers. Plenty of RAM memory and a huge hard drive to store most anything. Long battery life. About half the weight of my old laptop. Great all around Laptop.

    Great laptop

This laptop is great.I'am not a computor person but this unit can do every thing my tower unit did.Nice big, sharp screen, more then double the memory of my old unit. The burner is good makes great cd's,no problem with burning music cd,s,sound is great. Get about 4 hours on the batteries, thats the only thing that can be improved. Really like the looks too. Did away with my desktop and just use this. The only oher improvement HP could male is the speaker, sounds a little tinny, but when I'am at my desk I hook up my speaker's and it's fine. Would recommend this unit especially to folks who know computor;s

    Awesome!

My wife and I wanted to buy my daughter a lap top for her HS graduation, but when we saw the deal that Best Buy had on this one, we decided to buy early. We are so happy that we did because it runs great, it is easy to set up to conform to my daughters needs, it is fast, and we feel we got a great value. The case does not show fingerprints like other lap tops. It boots fast. The 17 inch screen looks nice. I agree with other reviews that the touch pad mouse is tough to use, but i feel that all touch pad mouse's are hard to use. We just bought a usb wireless mouse to use. I also feel that the battery life is not as long as my lap top, but it is not too bad. Some of my daughters friends parents bought the same one for their kid after they saw hers!
