Want a printer that prints reliably and without issue? This is not the one.
I don't know what this thing is doing but EVERY time I go to print I have to run various troubleshooters because the file gets stuck in the spooler without any messaging to tell me why. I have used this thing on several different networks in different apartments and what can I say.. it is completely unreliable. As a student that relies on this printer to print my notes for tests (meaning I need it to work immediately) I'm very disappointed. I will never purchase HP again.
WHY do I have to call support every time to fix this? Why does it only work for a couple days before reverting back to this same nonsense?
I have no idea.. but at least you know to stay away from such a horrible printer now.

I purchased Oct 21, 2022, but today is Feb 11, 2023 and this printer is dead. Error code 49 and there is nothing I can do to remove it, reset it, or fix it. I used this maybe 15 times (1 sheet every time). HP Support website is completely useless too. It tells me to "browse internet for solution". I've tried turning off and on, unplugging it for a few minutes, plugging in directly into my computer with a usb (it's supposed to be bluetooth only), plugging the power cord directly into the wall, and trying different combinations of buttons at a time thinking it might be a hard reset but nothing has worked.

Hi there.
I’m sorry that your printer has stopped working, and that you’ve not received the support you need. Your disappointment comes as no surprise, especially considering you’ve had the device less than four months and you’ve used it so infrequently. I want to help you out of this dilemma, so I’ll suggest some resources that I hope will reach that goal.
I can’t tell what’s causing the error message you see or why the device will not reset. I recommend that you contact us directly so we can help you assess what’s happening and find the proper course of action. HP+ printers such as yours come with exclusive concierge support. To call and reach live HP+ experts, visit the following URL and enter your HP+ serial number: - hp.com/plus-help
I'll also mention that HP printers have a one-year warranty from their purchase date that covers hardware as well as ink supplies – and that warranty extends to two years with an HP+ account – so if it comes to that, you might consider making use of it. You can verify the warranty using the following link: - support.hp.com/us-en/checkwarranty

As printer manufacturers go there are few who don't put HP (aka Hewlett Packard) in their top choices. With their newest All-In-One black and white model, the LaserJet MFP M140we, they seem to have made their goal to offer the most home office solutions in the smallest footprint possible. That is to say this printer does a lot in a small size.
Opening the box you get standard literature about warranty, instructions to download the HP Smart app, an advertisement for automatic ink replenishment service, and a couple pages on what the buttons are and how to troubleshoot common problems. There's also the printer and a power cable enclosed in plastic and Styrofoam. Out of the box on a desk its about 14"x17"x14", this makes it shorter by half and smaller overall than my previous HP All-in-One which is awesome since my desk tends to become messy easily. Print quality is great, as expected, and you can change the darkness/lightness or scale of your prints/copies as well as how many copies to output. The scanning is fast and simple, it has a 600x400 dpi resolution and there is a button on the panel specifically for smaller items like Drivers License copying which lets you scan once for front, flip and scan again to copy front and back on one page (a feature I've used before and am always happy to have here). I haven't had it long enough to test the Instant Ink replenishment service however signing up was easy and fast and I noticed this morning they already put a replacement in the mail to keep on hand, which is really handy! Depending how much you print this may be worth the price to sign up (I have a $2.99/month plan for up to 50 pages each month but they go up to 700 pages for $24.99)
My printing, scanning, copying experience was great however I'm marking it down for some functionality with how it integrates with HP's smart service. Out of the box it tells you to download the HP Smart app to handle your printing, and setup was as simple as ensuring my phone was on the 2.4G Wi-Fi (it doesn't work on 5G bandwidth Wi-Fi) and the printer was powered on...initial setup was smooth and easy! I used the printer all that day and a part of the 2nd day before someone had to unplug it to charge their phone. When I plugged it back in and tried to use it there was suddenly an issue where HP Smart app on my phone showed the printer as available, ready, and trouble-free but every time I tried to print it said there were no printers detected. I reset my phone, my Wi-Fi, I power cycled the printer, I attempted to reset the printer itself only to find there was no way to delete the printer in the HP Smart app itself. The Smart app has a virtual troubleshooter but it seems to base its help off keywords and links to troubleshooting found on the website (like an interactive help bar). None of the articles or the troubleshooting documents that came with the printer were any help. After over an hour trying various things and getting nowhere I did cave in and contact the help line and they opted to remote into my laptop (a concerning first step, in my opinion, although it was from the HP.com homepage so there was a modicum of security) and install the Smart app there. He assured me once I had it working on my laptop it would work on my phone as well. It took a half hour and we did get my phone printing again however I'm unable to get it working on my wife's phone. I'm pretty tech savvy with most things but for some reason this printer just got the best of me this weekend.
Overall this is a productive all-in-one printer that makes black and white prints and copies with a good quality level. It setup easily on the first day but troubleshooting was a chore and required a call into HP Tech Support, so I took some points for that. The Instant Ink seems like a cool idea but its too early to tell yet, again your mileage may vary but $3.00 per month for 50 pages seems about what we'll go through anyway. I'd recommend this to anyone with a small workspace who needs a basic printer/copier/scanner however plan to spend some time dealing with lost connections and Wi-Fi network swapping or other technical snafu headaches.

I like this printer and a scanner. It doesn’t have two-sided printing feature, but I t’s very compact. I’m not a heavy user, so I cannot say how it works when much printing is needed. For me this printer is great fit for my purposes. I use it with WiFi and can print from my laptop and iPhone.

Uncompromising print and scan quality!
Comes with hp+, which include 6 free months of instant ink and 1 extra year of HP warranty.
This MFP can print, scan and copy. Print speed up to 21 pages per minute.
Connect wirelessly via 2.4GHz wifi
Has a button to easily copy both sides of ID cards into same side of one sheet of paper, very convenient.
Must follow the included setup guide to prepare the printer before powering it up. Once powered up, install the hp smart app and use it to add the printer.
During setup, hp smart app can find the printer quickly but takes a few minutes at step 2 "sending network info...".
The setup process make it seems like you are signing up for hp+ instant ink subscription but it is not and instant ink is not required.
It comes with a starter ink toner cartridge so you can print even if you don't sign up for instant ink.
hp smart app is slow overall, example, from main screen, go to my hp account is slow.
After successfully added the printer, in Windows Printers & scanners, you will see 2 printers listed, one says HP Smart Printing and the other one says NPI03xxxx (HP LaserJet MFP M140w).
In hp smart app, click print document, pop up message says it only support pdf but I always get error printing pdf from hp smart app.
Open the same pdf using Adobe and print from there works fine.
Print from Ms Word and select hp smart printer works fine too.
The print quality is superb, it is a hp printer after all.
The scanner is a flat bed scanner. It is a bit slow but very quiet. Obviously not as fast as my duplex document scanner but able to copy id card is very convenient.
The scanned image is very good. Can scan up to 600dpi.
This MFP only support 2.4GHz wifi, I wish in the future 5GHz is supported. Also wish the HP Smart app can be faster.
If you are wondering, the printer can still print even when internet is down.
The main advantage of this printer is its small size without compromising the quality.

I needed to pick up a compact B&W printer for my wife’s home office. She has limited space. Being in HR, she needed something that would print high quality images and was easy to setup and use.
So picked this printer up and it really fit the bill. This isn’t some high speed laser jet printer. It’s perfect for how it’s marketed. It’s compact, super easy to set up and super easy to use. It produces high quality prints and has the added benefit of being a scanner as well for those few occasions when she needs to scan some something in.
The simplicity and ease of use is perfect what she needs (and her tech level)

The HP LaserJet M140we is, without a doubt, one of the best investments I've made in office equipment. Straight out of the box, the setup was a breeze, and I was printing in no time. The wireless feature is incredibly convenient, allowing me to send print jobs from virtually any device in my home. Every page I print comes out crisp and clear, embodying the quality I've come to expect from HP's LaserJet series.
What truly sets this printer apart, though, is the inclusion of 6 months of Instant Ink with HP+. Not only have I experienced hassle-free printing without the frequent need to reorder ink, but the savings on cartridge costs have been substantial. It's evident that HP has thought through the user experience with this bundle, making the entire printing process efficient and user-friendly.
The sleek white design of the LaserJet M140we adds a touch of modern aesthetics to my workspace, and its compact size ensures it doesn't dominate my desk. With its impressive performance, wireless capabilities, and the added value of Instant Ink, this HP printer offers an unmatched experience. Highly recommended for both home and office use!

My Epson printer stopped working after a recent firmware update that Epson support said ‘suggested’ I use Epson cartridges and not 3rd party cartridges. ‘Suggest’… sure thing. Anyway, this testing opportunity popped up, so I viewed it as serendipitous. I had never owned a laser printer, so I was excited about testing this one. I knew this printer would be smaller than my previous office printers, but this thing is smaller than I could have imagined. I wish I could say setup was effortless, but it wasn’t. I installed the HP app for Android devices, but I couldn’t log in to my already existing HP account. I could log in from my laptop, but the app kept telling me my info was incorrect. I spent about 40 mins on the phone with HP support, and of course I was told to uninstall/reinstall the app, which did nothing. While the CSR was doing more research, I decided to try another browser (the app uses a browser to log into the account), and lo and behold, the other browser worked. Note to HP: either specify a browser the app needs to use, or better yet, don’t rely on a third-party app to provide functionality… put it in the app yourself, you’re connecting to your own server! After this 40-50 min detour, the remainder of the setup went smoothly, and I was able to print a few documents from my phone. Adding the printer to my laptops was very simple and printing was seamless. Print quality is very nice and the speed so far has been great; from submitting a document to the printer to the time it pops out is seconds. Copy and scan quality are also good, but there is no auto-feeder, which is understandable due to the size of the printer. On several occasions, the app will freeze when opened, or I’ll get a spinning ‘wait’ graphic, or I’ll get a message saying it failed to login to my account. Usually this is resolved by simply reopening the app, but sometimes it takes multiple attempts. Overall, I’m happy with this printer, but the app needs some work.

I will start by saying I regret getting this printer. I deducted one star because getting this printer installed was a COMPLETE NIGHTMARE!! None of the provided instructions worked. For some reason, HP printers are not as simple to install as instructions allude. What worked for me was downloading and using HP Easy Start. That got the printer added to my HP Smart Account and connected to WIFI, but it still wasn't installed on my computer. THEN I was able to get the IP address by printing a test page from HP Smart, and type it in to install the printer manually using the Windows Add a Printer. It took all of that, and probably 1-2 hours of frustration to get it going. I have set up a basic HP monotone printer in my classroom, an HP Envy Inkjet at home, and connected to huge commercial Canon and Xerox printers at school, so I am not a novice when it comes to setting up a printer. This was completely ridiculous, so one star was deducted due to installation.
I deducted an additional star because this printer does NOT print double-sided. This was completely my fault for not checking, and I would not have gotten this printer had I known that beforehand. It is 2022 and all printers at this point should have auto-duplex. My goodness! So one star is deducted because it does not have duplex capabilities.
All that aside, the printer is compact which I like for my home office needs. It is a basic black and white laser printer, which is what I wanted since I already have an HP Inkjet. It prints fast, much faster than my Inkjet. The print quality is as expected. The paper tray doesn't hold very much paper, about 150 sheets, but it will do. The output tray extender needs to be longer because the edge of the paper curls under. I'll have to see what I can manually rig up.
Bottom line, for $170, I do not recommend this printer. I can deal with the installation issues because once it's installed, you don't have to worry about that anymore, and you know what to do in the future should it need to be installed elsewhere. However, I cannot overlook the duplex printing. If you want to spend nearly $200 and not be able to print on both sides of the paper, be my guest.

So far I Love this printer. No more color cartridges drying up and costing my $80 for a dozen pages a year. Should have bought one of theses years ago. If black or grey scale prints are all you need then this is the one for you. Very small footprint on desk and the wireless print works flawlessly. I have 3 phones, 1 desktop, 2 laptops and a tablet all connected and all print easy as pie. Set up was simple. Impressed I am!!

Once I finally completed the setup process, the printer made quick quality prints. Excellent printer! Easy to set up, nice and small; worked immediately, and price was right. I was tired of buying ink cartridges and frustrated with the whole process of "does not accept yellow cartridge." Since I print mostly typed documents (not brochures or photos), black-only is fine with me. I always wanted a laser jet printer, and NOW I HAVE ONE!!! I did sign up for the "toner plan" but have no idea whether this will save $$ for me. I will not know for a while how price of toner compares to the zillions of ink cartridges I would be purchasing. But either way: I love this printer and never looked back. It works quickly and does a beautiful job, and isn't that why I bought it? Yes, it is. I definitely recommend this printer.

I have an IPad Pro 12.9" 4th Generation and I really was in need of a printer , I went to the store and found this little gem !!! It was very reasonably priced too. It has a scanner , and and only prints black and white which is all I needed and it comes with a 6 month ink refill plan. I also purchased a 5 year warranty on it. I just love how compact it is because I live in a small apartment and don't have much room and it fit perfect. Prints out fast and accurate . Highly recommend this printer !!!!

Small laserjet all-in-one printer/scanner/copier

I rarely print anything, but when I have to, the inkjet printers I've had in the past are always trouble. The cartridges generally dry up and have to be run through all types of diagnostics and priming to work and even then the quality isn't great.
I read somewhere that for an infrequent printer, a laser printer is the best. I decided to give the HP LaserJet M140we a try, since it's not only a laser printer, but is also an all-in-one scanner and copier as well.
Out of the box the setup was quick and easy. Depending which device you want to print from, you can connect to any device via wifi and to devices with a USB port. They have downloadable software for computers on the HP site, plus the HP Smart App for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android.
I downloaded the app for my Windows 10 computer and for my Android phone. Both control the printer very easily for printing and scanning. You can print documents that are on your phone and on programs your phone accesses (DropBox, email, etc).
If space is an issue, this printer is very small compared to other printers I've had. It's just over 14” wide, 10 ½ inches deep and 7 ¾ inches tall. Easily fits on a shelf or the corner of a desk or table.
The printing and scanning quality is very good and the app makes the process very easy.
