Amazing laser MFP for home office & small business
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned so many inkjet printers yet never had a laser printer. Every time I thought of getting one, my initial thoughts were, toner is going to be expensive, or it might be too big for my home office since I am so used to the compact/portable printers. The this HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw came along and so far, I am liking it. Especially with the current work from home situation, I do not have access to my work printers and need something to get my job done. The setup is pretty easy and quick. The printer itself is large and heavy for its size. You might need to make plenty of room if you are replacing any inkjet printers. But make sure you follow the included flyer for easy unpacking. This unit comes with 4 individual cartridges (Black, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow). The printer cable (USB cable), phone cord, power cord are all included with this. There is a front USB port for direct access. The dual band Wi-Fi connectivity is an added bonus for all wireless printings. A multifunction printer, this unit handles your everyday essential functions like print, copy, scan, and fax with ease, along with other additional features. You can print from your smartphone (AirPrint, Google Cloud Print) or download the HP Smart app to use the additional functionalities like scanning receipts, email documents, uploading to your cloud storage (OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) or to adjust the settings (this can be done via the 2.7" color touchscreen too). The quality of the prints are much better compared to my inkjet printers and faster too. The automatic document feeder is pretty good. You can stack upto 50 pages and this unit prints fast even with duplex printing. You can also use it to scan multiple pages at once, even though it is one-sided scanning. Overall, this is a solid printer for all home office as well as small business needs with added functionalities. Given the high cost of the printer as well as the toners, it is economical in the long run and I highly recommend this for anyone looking to upgrade or try their hands on first laser printer.

Once you go laser, you won't go back to inkjet!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've become really tired of dealing with clogged ink jet cartridges, so I decided to try out a color laser printer. Most of my printing is documents, so it's ideally suited to a laser printer. First off, this printer is huge. Imagine the footprint of a normal inkjet then stack 2-3 of them and you will have an impression of overall size. It's sturdy and is more like small office quality than an ordinary inexpensive inkjet. Setup was extremely easy. I plugged it in, used the touchscreen to join my wifi network and used the mobile app to complete the setup. It was instantly visible to all of my computers and mobile devices. Interestingly, it also has a built-in web server for setting up more advanced options. I'm used to setting up printers like this at work, so I appreciate the option to tweak it to perform exactly the way I want. Printing is amazingly fast. Again, if you're accustomed to an inkjet printer you will be blown away at how much faster this will print. It's a little slower than a monochrome laser printer, but still plenty fast. It can print two-sided, but it completes one side, then pulls the page back in and does the second. Print is extremely crisp and clear, especially on text and monochrome pages. Printing color photos on regular paper works in a pinch, but you will lose some detail and colors are somewhat more muted than what you would get from an inkjet and photo paper. It can also be used as a copier or scanner, with an auto-document feeder that holds a ton of pages. It only scans one side though, so you'll have to scan both sides manually. My favorite part is that it holds at least half a package of laser paper, so it goes much longer between refills. Overall, laser printers are more expensive than inkjets, but print more pages per toner cartridge and are more economical after the initial price. I'm very happy with this HP and would highly recommend it!

Great Color Laser, Great MFP!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the print quality, the design, and the features of the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw! I've had a few MFPs but this is by far my favorite one because of the design and the little things that add up to a lot of overall value for me! I'm also totally sold on laser now. After burning through so many ink cartridges I'm happy to be paying less per page and looking forward to replacing toner cartridges less often! Really, just not needing to worry about the ink smearing is huge too!!! Design This MFP has Tray 1 and Tray 2. Try one is a single sheet feeder. initially I thought that was an odd design, having a tray where you feed in 1 sheet at a time. It turns out to be very practical for me. Don't usually need photo paper in but when I do, I can just put in 1 sheet of 4x6 photo paper. You put it in part way, it grabs the sheet, whatever type of paper it is, and pulls it in. After it pulls it in it pops up a message on the screen and asks you if want to modify the paper type for that tray! Very convenient! So it makes it easy to pop in any type of paper, photo paper, or envelope, change the setting for that tray, and you're good to go. Tray 2 is more of a conventional tray. It has all the adjustments you need. It will go down small enough for 4"x7" photo paper, take standard 8.5"x11" letter, or you can extend the tray so it will hold 14" long legal paper. Do be aware that if you do this the tray will stick out a few inches from the front of the printer when pushed in the whole way. Not a problem at all for me and I actually like it as it helps keep the footprint down. Speaking of footprint, I'm really impressed by the size of this. When I think "Laser" I think big and when I think "MFP" I think bigger but this is a loaded Laser MFP in a nice size package. My previous inkjet MFP was about the same size. This is a little deeper and not quite as wide as the inkjet. Print quality I expected excellent print quality and I wasn't disappointed. Text is sharp and perfectly formed. I had an inkjet before this and at higher print speeds text would sometimes be broken or shifted, like rows didn't quite line up and it was very noticeable. That was at high speed so I could print higher quality/slower but it was annoying. With this laser I get excellent, consistent print quality and it's fast too! Color photos print very well too! I don't know that I can say they are better looking than from a good ink jet but I like them better because they look as good and they don't smear! I actually think it's easier to see a difference in the black text, just with the consistency and perfection of the text. Features I was surprised by some of the built in features. Duplex (print on both sides of the page) printing is a great and easy way to save paper. Duplexing is the kind of thing you don't care about when you don't have it but once you get it you don't want to go back. The HP Smart app has nice features and HP ePrint was a great surpise! Read on to hear more about those. There were other features I wasn't expecting. Check out the list of built in pages you can print directly from the printer! Built-in Quick Forms (Setup menu option): Notebook paper - standard or narrow ruled Graph paper - English or metric Checklist - one or two columns Music paper Apps - Quick Forms (Requires internet connection) Calendar - monthly or weekly Notebook paper - standard, narrow, or child ruled Graph paper English or metric Checklist - one, two, or three column Fax cover sheet Music paper - horizontal or vertical Tic-tac-toe Box game Maze - easy, medium, hard It also has HP ePrint, which I setup not knowing what it was, but it's great! With HP ePrint you get a free email address for your printer that you can email and the printer will print what you send it. For instance, I emailed a PDF, just a page of text, and it printed the PDF perfectly! It doesn't print the email header information, since that's only to get the file to the printer, but it prints the file that was attached to the email. I don't know how many file formats are supported but the PDF worked great! This is a perfect option if you need to print remotely or from a device that doesn't have the printer configured and was a great value add for me. HP Smart App You'll want to install the HP Smart app on your phone. It makes it easy to print different types of files and gives you excellent control of the printer. I like the way it has a sort of live view of the printer from the printer options window. For instance, if you don't have a page loaded in tray 1, then tray 1 will not be an option. You'll see it pop up as an option when you put paper in. The smart app also gives you options to access the standard printer, copier, scanner, fax features and has a cool tool called "Camera Scan". Camera Scan lets you use your phone camera to take a picture of a document, crop the page the to edges, and then you can print, fax, save, or share directly from there. Scanning Scanning used to be such a big deal. Now it seems like it's common and almost an afterthought but when you need it, you really need it, especially for multi-page jobs. Anyway, copying and scanning both gave great results. I have used the flat bed and the feeder. The pages I put in the feeder were kind of bent up and not uniform at all but it pulled them through and scanned them perfectly. Toner Cartridges With two young children we do a lot of printing for school, and even more while social distancing at home. A laser makes a lot of sense when you're going through ink cartridges all the time. Although you pay more for toner, it's not only less per page but you get more pages per toner cartridge. I'll go over the cartridges available and the number of pages later. This takes four HP 206 toner cartridges, one black and three for cyan, magenta, and black. The included cartridges are good for 1350 pages black and 700 for each color. When you buy new cartridges the standard 206A black cartridge is also good for 1350 pages. The standard 206A color cartridges are good for 1250. The high capacity 206X cartridges are good for 3150 pages black and 2450 color.

Don's review
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The printer was easy to setup and works as advertised. It included the printer cable. The only drawback was when purchased, the store did not have any spare toner cartridges available; however, I will be subscribing to the HP printer ink purchase program.

Multi-Function Color Laser Printer with App!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Set up: Very easy and quick. Took about 5-10 minutes getting the printer setup out of the box and ready to go. Size: This printer is large and heavy. Being that this takes up both a larger footprint and is taller than some, it needs to have a lot of desk/table real estate. If space is limited in the area you plan on putting this, I would double check measurements and if needed look for a different model. Looks: I am not a fan of the white plastic. There must’ve been a static charge on my unit as after printing a few pages the entire printer had splotches of toner all over. It came off with a damp towel but was a little disconcerting. At least the white will hide some dust but I would prefer a darker color either gray or black. Printing quality: The print quality is good. It took a cleaning and calibration because the first few pages had colored shadows on bold black letters. Colors and quality is similar to Inkjets for the most part. Lasers are typically a little worse at printing color pictures or photos but so far it appears this is on par for most prints. Speed: The printer is fairly quick. I got about 20 pages per minute which is about what HP advertises. APP: This printer features mobile printing via an HP app. Once you install the app it prompts for additional HP Driver which is also downloadable from the Play Store. The app has options to print documents, photos, scan, copy, etc. You can print from local on the phone or through Google Photos or Amazon Photos, if you have those apps installed. It works well from the mobile device with no noticeable loss of quality. Overall: This seems like a quality laser printer. The app integration makes it easy to print from a mobile device. The only real complaints I have are the lack of automatic duplex scanning and the fact the machine is large (and white). The 2.7” color touchscreen is easy to use and navigate for setting adjustment. Its nice to see 5Gz Wi-Fi connectivity for use of the wireless capabilities. Overall, I would recommend this machine to those needing fast, quality printing for a home office or small business. NOTE: It appears the replacement Toner and Ink for this printer is expensive. Being a fairly expensive printer in the first place I would take this into account when shopping for printers. Most printer anymore require genuine ink and will be checked by the printer before it will accept it.

Couldn’t be happier.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We had a previous version of this printer - the 277 printer. It was a workhorse for us for many years, but unfortunately we had to leave it in Mexico when we left there. We tried an inkjet for a while but were burning through cartridges every month or two. We needed a laser printer and because the 277 was so good we chose the 283 model. We have not been disappointed. It is easy to set up and gives great output. Couldn’t be happier.
