This is a very good, all-rounded, all-in-one color laser printer/scanner/copier/fax with built-in LAN network and WiFi connections. It functions very well and has a touch screen to navigate the controls. Printing & scanning speeds are good and has the added functionality of printing & scanning from & to USB flash drives, printing from emails and scanning to emails all without the use of a computer. It also has a duplexer which means it can print on both sides of a sheet by itself without any interaction from the user. Basically, all the features you would want from a multifunction.
Basic setup is easy enough for printing and scanning and fax but if you want to make use of some of the more advanced features like print from email, scan to email, scan to dropbox and scan to network folder it can get a a bit tricky. For that i suggest calling HP support and they will guide you through the detailed setup process and all the configurations needed to make things work.
HP support is excellent by the way. The reason I'm giving this item 4 stars is because there was a defect in the unit i got and had missed my return window to best buy; however, HP support was excellent in replacing my unit with a new one. They FedExed me a brand new unit and sent me a prepaid shipping label to send the defective one back. That's why i like HP, they're a very respectable company.

It prints beautifully, and quickly! I haven't used the scan feature so I can't speak on that. But the colors are amazing! It's also a quiet printer which I like. It was easy to connect to computers and laptops.

This printer was purchased after our HP 1025 NW laser printer finally failed after around 5 years. We are looking for a color laser all in one that had a reasonable footprint and used larger capacity toners. This unit is considerately smaller then units with same features. we at very happy with it. Its only quirk is that sometimes makes select paper size after opening tray and adding paper.

Was looking to replace an older HP Color Laserjet All-In-One and decided on this one. It has a larger footprint and is quite a bit heavier than the printer it was replacing. Faster print speeds than the previous printer and the quality is just as good. It does seem to take a little longer to wake-up if it hasn't been printed to in awhile and has gone to sleep. Wireless works a lot better than the one it was replacing but I don't like the move to "Apps" instead of full programs for accessing the scanning functionality and the incessant prompting to sign-up for HP's Ink service.

I got the HP LaserJet Pro MTP M281FDW printer during holiday sale and it's an awesome printer. My previous inkjet versions kept having problems with the ink, wireless, or printing from Apple devices. I've had it for about a month now and no issues at all. It prints very fast and there is no wait time like the inkjets. The color is also very precise and looks very professional. It is a little large, but that's expected for a laser printer. I highly recommend this printer if someone is tired or inkjet problems. It may be a little more expensive, but it is so worth it to me.

I’ve always wanted to switch from an inkjet printer to a laser printer and I am very glad I made this purchase. It is an excellent printer at a great price. My wife loves the ability to make photocopies easily and quickly, it is reasonably compact, and the duplex capability is really handy. I’ve heard somewhat negative reviews on it’s color picture abilities, despite it not being designed for photo printing, it isn’t that bad even with copy paper. So far, it’s a good investment for a small home office.

I love it- so nice and I can even print from my Cell phone. it have great cartridge life and gives great print. Tells you what cartridges are low so you can buy only what you need. Takes some patience setting up but not to complicated. I highly recommend this printer, it is so great I got the Black and white version as well for work- and got the extended tray so I have plenty of Paper, and do not run out. HP Laser Jet Pro MFP M426fdw Both are SUPER AWESOME and easy to use. Must Have

This is my first laser jet printer and I love it. I have not needed to replace the toner yet and I print about 200 copes a week. I’m on my sixth week of use. The copies are very clear and great quality too.

A Great "All-In-One" for the Home or Business

I researched a number of "Laser Class" machines to replace my (aging) "workhorse" Epson Ink-Jet. After reading a number of on-line reviews, I finally decided to get this machine.
Weight: it's a "substantial" unit. If necessary, get help to unpack and place it in your Desired Location. There are recessed "hand grips" on the bottom sides for fairly easy lifting and transport. DO NOT use the scanner lid or the "paper tray" area to lift or "position adjust" the printer - damage to these areas can/will occur (thus VOIDing any warranty!).
The "cream white" color is pleasant to the eye. However, it will "attract" fingerprints and similar "dark" dirt. Wiping with a dampened towel will help keep it clean.
Connectivity: USB (type "B" connector), RJ-45 Ethernet (1 GB speed) or Wi-Fi - pick your favorite connection.
It's relatively quiet, compared to the ink-jet, and has a VERY FAST "wake-up then print" time when it's "napping". Print quality is excellent (what I expect from HP "laser" printers!) and its' paper-handling is impressive (it nicely "double-sides" LEGAL sheets!). Overall print speed is quite fast, compared to inkjet printers.
The scanner is impressive, especially with its' "two-sided" scan capability - no need to "flip and re-scan". The auto-feeder handles multiple sheets quite well, again up to LEGAL size. The scanner bed handles up to LEGAL size paper.
Wi-Fi setup is fairly painless - just ensure you write down the IP address you set so you can tell your computer "where it is" when you want to print.
The paper drawer ("TRAY 2" for the printer) will hold up to 250 sheets (1/2 a "ream") of anything up to LEGAL (8-1/2" x 14"). The sheet amount will vary, depending on the "weight" of the paper. Unlike many printers, the drawer closes FLUSH with the printer's front, even if loaded with LEGAL stock! this really helps with "aisle" locations where someone's hip could "clobber" a protruding paper drawer.
The MANUAL FEEDER ("TRAY 1"), OTOH, can only do One Sheet At A Time AND it must be configured for a specific paper size (i.e., "TRAY 2" holds Letter stock, "TRAY 1" is for Legal sheets) and IT WILL NOT "auto-detect" if you use a sheet size other than what it is "hard configured" for. This isn't a "problem" since I, personally, mainly use Letter stock and occasionally use Legal sheets.
The print output area is located UNDER the scanner unit and will hold up to 50 sheets. Therefore, make sure you empty the area if printing more than 50 sheets.
It has FAX capability, which I have no use for at this time.
Setup/Configuration: If you're a Linux user (like I am), its' imperative you go to the HP support site and download/install THE LATEST VERSION of the "HPLIP" Linux driver so the "Printers" System Utility can correctly query the printer and install the correct drivers. One little "quirk" when printing using Wi-Fi connections (Linux): after you submit a Print Job, you MAY need to click the printer icon in the System Tray and "release" the document for printing (it'll be "held" until you do). While this adds a couple more steps, the printer IMMEDIATELY prints the "held" document once it's "released". Once the printer is "awake", subsequent Print Jobs generally work without "intervention".
Make sure you get familiar with the Web-Based Configuration Utility. You have more configuration options, "tweaks", and "diagnostic" info available. BE CAREFUL though: it's All Too Easy to make a mistake if you don't know what you're looking at/for! For The Majority Of Users, you can perform All The Basic configuration via the LCD screen.
Replacing toner cartridges is "easy": flip down the hinged panel all the way and pull out the toner rack. Each color cartridge fits into its' own "slot" via "keying" pins, so it's fairly difficult to "mis-install" a toner cart. The User Manual has a section on prepping and replacing cartridges.
Finally, PRINT OUT THE USER MANUAL! you can find it on the supplied Installation Disc or download it from the HP Support Site. TRUST ME, there's lots of Useful Information in the Manual and most (if not all) your questions will be answered.
With the above entered, let me list what feel are its' "shortcomings".
1) Multiple Paper Drawers would be a "nicety" so I could More Easily select between paper stocks.
2) The LCD touch screen is "smallish" and not very "sensitive", especially for people with "large" fingers (i.e., Men).
3) The "manual" tray is "finicky": you must have the "side rails" spaced correctly AND you need to feet sheets "dead straight" into it or things may jam. Patience and "experience" will help you develop the "feel" for feeding it. :)
4) HP-Branded Toner cartridges are VERY EXPENSIVE. Consider looking into "third-party 'compatible'" cartridges, especially if you do LOTS of printing (I'm still working with the pre-installed "starter" cartridges). If you do choose "compatible" cartridges, DO YOUR RESEARCH to find those cartridges that have the highest "user ratings".
These "shortcomings" DO NOT detract from my "star" rating, they are simply personal "nits" (after all, "You Can't Have Everything", right? :) ).
May you enjoy printing/scanning/faxing with this unit!

I have had black only laser printers and ink jet printers for the past several years. Ink jet printers are a little messy and smudge easily, esp when printed copy gets any water on it.
I like the dry toner and quality of the laser printer and that’s what led to this purchase. Decided to try the color laser and am not disappointed.
This HP Laserjet Pro is very fast & colors are great. The scan, copy & document feed functions have worked perfectly. Wireless set up easily and works with all my devices.
I have a home office and this printer is perfect.

Coming from inkjet printers, this unit is a revelation. Setup was fairly simple (just follow the instructions) and the size if pretty compact compared to our old all in one, so it's easy to find a spot for it.
Printing is fast. Faster than our old inkjet printer even took to warm up. Initially we thought it wasn't working but then we saw the printed output already sitting in the return tray. The cost is down low enough now that it's equivalent to a decent inkjet all in one. I wish we had switched a long time ago.
