Manufacturer problems that can not be fixed!

    Posted .

Be warned, this computer has an obvious defect and HP says that they will not repair it. The AC adapter on the machine does not fit into the computer completely. About a half centimeter of the pin remains exposed. If you are looking at the computer in the store turn it over and look at it from the underside you will see the problem. Because the adapter doesn't fit it shakes loose with the simplest of touches. After hours and weeks of dealing with HP directly they tell me that this is the way the machine is made and that the machine can still be used when not plugged in so they will NOT repair it. They say you need to charge the computer while it is not being used, and then use it while it is not plugged in. They also say you can only use the computer on a flat surface (laps and laptops apparently don't go). This computer does not function well if you plan on using it while plugged in, and be warned, unless you want the monitor to be very dim, the battery life won't support a long time computer without AC power. So, honestly, go with another model, don't be fooled by the cute case, this machine needs some serious quality control.

    Enjoying it so far...

I just got my Netbook yesterday, and I actually have not even had the change to use it through a full battery charge. When I got it home, I cleaned out all the introductory offers, preliminary software, etc. and created System Restore disks using an external DVD writer (not included). I also installed Firefox. During the process of customizing the netbook and removing unwanted software, I got a Windows error several times...the classic one where Windows "restarts" itself. This does not inspire lots of confidence in Windows 7 Starter Edition. I am sure the mere 1 GB of RAM does not help, but getting a netbook typically means just 1 GB as netbooks are not meant for heavy multitasking and computing power. I really like the shape of this netbook...except for the battery that sticks out the bottom. The pictures don't show this, but this is the trade-off for having a 6-cell battery. The keyboard is great, and the mousepad is also a good size. The speakers on this unit are better than those on other netbooks I looked at. It is possible to find netbooks with more features at this same price point, especially concerning hard drive size, but for a netbook, I was completely comfortable with the 160 GB's. I am confident that the battery life is going to be good, and the screen looks GREAT both at full brightness when plugged in and at half brightness when running on the battery. The charger has an awkward fit into the unit, and it feels a bit flimsy to me. I am sure I will have more to say with continued use, but I completely recommend this product! GET THE PROTECTION PLAN...only $59.99, and it covers a battery if necessary. I had it on my laptop, and if you do ever have to have your battery replaced (which you probably will), the plan pays for itself!

Surprisingly Good Performer, for a Netbook

    Posted .

I bought the Mini 110 fully expecting it to completely underwhelm me, as far as performance was concerned. As it turns out, I was delightfully surprised. First, I'll say that I'm a big fan of HP, and the Mini is no exception. Even so, for premium netbook prices, you should get premium netbook features. It would've been nice to have bluetooth, and nicer still if BB offered the Broadcom video acclerator. I'd even be willing to pay a bit more for WWAN out-of-the-box. But not that much more. For that reason, I give the Mini 3/5 for Value. The display is about what I've come to expect from HP; crisp, with good detail. The backlight is very (a little too) bright, which should come in handy for viewing outside. For being new, I would've liked to have seen a higher-res display. Performance, though, is where the Mini shines. I would definitely max out the RAM; the performance boost is incredible. If you can, upgrade to either Win7 Home Premium or Ultimate; Starter really doesn't do this little guy justice. After a quick update to Ultimate and Flash 10.1, YouTube sd content is quite watchable, with HD still lagging (mostly due to the Atom's limitations and the horrid Intel GMA graphics). Word 2010 opens in under 3 seconds, Outlook in under 7. Aero works flawlessly, with no lag whatsoever in Flip 3D - something I didn't think was possible on a netbook, especially with GMA gfx. Multitasking is great; can run Google Chrome with 4+ tabs open, Outlook, Word, iTunes, and AIM with no problem. Considering my other machine is a quad-core with 4GB RAM and a GeForce 8800, I'm pleasantly surprised. Finally, you really can't beat the convenience of a netbook. Essentially, you can do all the productivity things you can do with your full-size desktop or laptop, plus some. Add in a ~4 hour battery, and you've got a no-brainer if you do any traveling at all. WWAN would have been a big plus, but there are ways around it.

    Adorable! AND, surprisingly great performance.

I love this little guy. Easy to take with me anywhere I go. Has enough computing power to meet my needs. There is no optical drive, but this shouldn't deter anyone from purchasing. You can get a nifty little external drive if you just can't live without one. The first time I used the mini for a video call, I was appalled at the quality of the graphics and sound. I overcame this with adjustments to the power settings for the graphics chip. A simple right-click to the icon, then click on options, then click on display settings. There's a button to click on for power settings. Adjusting the power settings, gave the chip the ability to process good quality video calls.

You want to check your e-mail? This is the perfect

    Posted .

Netbooks are really for checking e-mail. You can't work on them for very long because 1) the screen on this one is tiny, and 2) the keyboard is also tiny. Then there's Windows 7 Starter. I hear people praising Windows 7 and I've tried it on other computer and I don't really like it. The main problem with this one is that you CANNOT change the background. It's locked in. So now I'm stuck looking at the very boring (by now) blue Windows 7 background. If you want something that won't cause you eye strain or carpal tunnel (and will let you change the looks of the OS) then go for a laptop.

Good Mini. Does the job quite well!

    Posted .

I purchased this model (HP-Mini 110-1125NR) the morning it became available (10-22). I wanted to have Windows 7 on my new mini. I think that it was worth the wait. My System seems very stable and has not provided any reason for me to question the purchase. I have installed Office 2007 onto the system and use this netbook for producing business proposals for my customers. I predominately use Excel for generating the proposals. I have found this to be quite capable for the limited multi-tasking that I do. I have also tethered this netbook via cell phone to the internet and streamed Netflix movies without any problem or lag in video processing. I must say that I would have been very disappointed if I had purchased any of the netbooks that only had the 3 cell battery pack. I had considered that I would not really need the extra battery life that a 6 cell battery would provide. However, I was grossly mistaken. I can say with most certainty that the 3 cell netbook battery would not have been adequate for me at all. I don't know how they get there battery life test results, but I would imagine a 3 cell battery will not really get you 3 hours of operation under normal use. However, not having tried the 3 cell battery, I can only speculate as to their overall battery life VS. the 6 cell battery in this model. Last but not least. I have to say that I really appreciate the touch pad having a dedicated vertical scroller on it. Since netbook screens are limited in their overall viewing height, you tend to scroll a lot to view just about everything. The built in vertical scroll on the touch pad has been great! Suffice it to say, I am pleased with this HP Netbook and will continue to use it for both business and personal entertainment. I give it my full recommendation. Regards, DA

    Solid Netbook With Expected Shortcomings

    Posted .

After one week of usage, I've grown to enjoy using this machine whenever and where ever I need to. I've had problems w/ Windows 7 as I expected I would, but I need to use MS Office so I figured I'd gamble and go with 7. Windows 7 actually runs pretty well on this, but when getting a few apps running, it is obvious that more physical memory is needed. Fortunately, this is an easy upgrade with this unit. I selected this unit in large part because of the keyboard, and it has not disappointed. Pretty quite and a good touch.

    Wonderful mini laptop

    Posted .

I am a little women and needed a laptop that wouldn't kill me to carry around. This mini is very light weight with a cool design. Everything works perfect except that I did not purchase extra memory so it takes a little while to boot up and sometimes the internet is slow loading. I will be purchasing extra memory soon. The battery life is great I can sit through a 3 hour class and still be fine. I love the keyboard it is very easy to type on and it is actually a very good sized keyboard.

    This is a good buy!

    Posted .

This computer was definitely worth the money. Its easy to set up and access the internet. Another bonus? I love the fact that it came with a back-up disc just in case. While it lacks a CD/DVD drive, and it only has 2 connection ports, this computer is still a worthwhile buy if you're looking for something simple to use. A few pointers? Buy a separate external hard drive for extra space, and an external CD/ DVD drive. Buy those two along with this, and you're doing great!

Best Bang for the Buck!!!!!! Apple watch out!

    Posted .

This is the best netbook I have seen, for the price. Battery Life: I almost purchased an Apple for the battery life and then I saw this one. It does what it claims 8 hours, I was on a 4 hour plane flight watching movies doing business, and my battery is a little more than 1/2 full. I use this now to take to coffee shops. It's so portable! Speed: It's compact, portable, boots fast, shuts down fast, Windows 7 Starter is faster than Windows 7 Ultimate. Down side the processor isn't the greatest speed but I boosted the memory to 2GB that helped. Power: I did forget my laptop's power cord on a business trip within seconds I had this netbook hooked to a external monitor and was up and running business applications, I had 5 Excel docs opend, 10 Google Chrome windows open, MS Word, and Firefos, along with Thunderbird email , Viewing Adobe PDF's and other business tasks all at once .. never locked up.. NO CD BURNER/ROM: The other downside is the - no set of backup disks, I will have to purchase a external cd rom burner to make backup disks. But I do use a 500GB External Mini Drive to carry around with me. Windows 7 Starter: I like that but wish i could change the desktop background.. Almost wish I had WIndows 7 Starter on my notebook - it starts fast and shutsdown fast.. Final Conclusion: For a netbook - it operates like a notebook.. !

    Love my netbook!

    Posted .

I purchased this netbook in October before going to Europe. I used it there to transfer pics from my camera each day using the built in memory card reader; to listen to music and play games on the plane. At home now, it is my favorite appliance; in the kitchen or living room, it is very handy to quickly look up something on the web or check email. It is so light weight and small, it's like picking up a large paperback book. The FN key icon color is so close to the color of the keys that, unless you hold it just right, you can't tell what it does. I've labeled the ones I use most often so this is no longer a problem. The small screen means that you need to scroll up and down on almost every web page, but having the task bar auto hide helps. I just love this appliance!!!

    nice little netbook

a nice little netbook that gets the job done. great for simple programs like Word or storing some pictures, and obviously for web browsing. nice battery life! last longer than my laptop. downside: lack of personalization. i wish i could change the background. and sometimes web page viewing is a little frustrating with the small screen. but it's a great little netbook that is perfect for a student, or anyone on the go!

Serious tool with a playfull side.

I really like this machine. I have 4 other HP's in the house, and this one is a credit to the brand. The Windows 7 starter edition is a breeze to navigate, and syncing with my Windows smart phone, which is also sync'd with another computer, keeping all my outlook contacts and other info, music, videos and photos up to date. Fast, powerful and lots of HD space. What more do you need? You need this.

    It's not a laptop - it's a NETBOOK!!!

    Posted .

THIS IS NOT A LAPTOP!!! IF YOU WANT A LAPTOP - GET A LAPTOP!!! I love my NETBOOK! This is perfect for school. It's portable, lightweight and great at finding wireless signals. (I never knew so many of my neighbors had wireless!) It's got a great 8 hr battery that really does last that long. The 1GB Memory CAN be upgraded to a 2GB for better performance. (Highly recommended!!!) I watch movies on this thing. Keep in mind, however, that this is NOT a laptop. It maxes out on CPU Usage when playing some high quality movies full screen. So it depends on the video file size your playing. A majority of the movies do play just fine full screen. I'm tired of my PC crashing and all I want to do is surf the web, write reports for school, and watch a movie while in the car (not while driving though...). I do play games on it as well, just don't expect to get away with anything complicated like Black&White2. It is a skimmed down laptop made for rudimentary use. I love it! Its all I'd ever use even if I had a laptop - I just paid a lot less for it... because it's not a laptop.

    Good for what it is

The customer before me is obviously reviewing another product since this computer released October 22nd and couldn't possibly have it for a month. Warranties from the manufacturers are always a pain. You get put in this vicious loop and never get the support you need. So I don't expect any different. I got the protection plan from Best Buy so if anything goes wrong, I can bring my computer in for service versus being put in that aweful loop. Anyways about the computer... Before even turning it on, I installed a 2 GB memory stick to increase its performance and it works great. Netbooks are generally good for internet and email and this does just that quite well. Graphics card is lacking performance and you can tell when streaming tv shows and stuff off the internet, but that was to be expected. I have a desktop and a laptop but just needed a portable device with good battery life to access my internet and email on the go and so far I have no complaints. Battery lasts about 7 hours when everything is on powersaver mode. Keep up the great work HP!

When i bought the netbook it was for school since it would take some off my back, but i didn't know that i couldn't change wallpaper in windows 7 starter edition. I don't like it because of that and becuase windows 7 needs a few more patchs since it almost just crashed on me, but overall i like the unit since its light weight, the sata hard drive, and the battery life.

    Mini is the key word

    Posted .

I got this netbook for school since it would be a lot more portable than the full size HP laptop I normally use. I realize that netbooks aren't neccesarily intended for heavy computing use, but I've had a lot of problems with this netbook. I only use this netbook to surf the internet or write papers and the battery life still drains very quickly. I can only imagine how short the battery life would last if I was indeed watching movies or listening to music. Without the netbook plugged in to charge, the screen is also very dim. My OS freezes frequently and sometimes it's even gone to a completely black screen, or closed all my internet browsers for no reason at all. The only thing I really like is the large screen size for such a small laptop, and also the full keyboard. The offset mouse buttons took some getting used to. There's also no disk drive so I had to purchase an external drive. Overall, it's a nice little laptop for convenience purposes but anticipate some frustrations with this one.

    Great netbook!!

    Posted .

The battery is so large that it protrudes out of the rear. The nice thing about that is it angles the keyboard towards you. I might need to update some settings, but after about 3 hours of continuous use the battery indicator shows low. I thought a 6 cell battery was supposed to be good for about 8 hours. Other than battery life, this is an awesome netbook.

    Very easy to carry.

    Posted .

I have a HP Pavilion HDX which I use at the office and carry home for work . It weighs about 28 lb when in the case. I got tired of carrying it on planes when I travel so I looked around for something small. The HP Mini notebook seemed to fit the bill. Altought the display is small it is large enough. If you are looking for a computer for home or business use which requires the use of cd/dvd's this is not for you. If you just need it for web applications it is great. I carry it when I travel and it's the berries. Easy to hit all the WiFi spots. I have a Sprint Data card I plug in and can get online just about anywhere. I did a lot of studying before I bought it and if does just what I expected it to do. I have never been disappointed in HP when I took my time and got what I needed. Windows 7 seems to be working great on Mini, I have Vista on Palvilion and have no problems with it either. Great computer for the the money.
