Worth $50, which is what I paid for.

My old Epson has bitten the dust, which required me to get a new printer. It had a good run--it's lasted from 2014, which is satisfactory for a mid-to-low range office printer. But I don't print as much nowadays, and for something that requires a lot of printouts, I do have an old laser printer on standby. What I needed was something for occasional color printing, possibly for printing and sharing cat pictures. Maybe. I'm kidding. Maybe. I've hence picked up this bottom-of-the-barrel "OfficeJet," which is probably not very befitting of the old name. Did they put that name on this device because it was technically a multifunction printer with fax and scan capability and automatic document feeder? Probably, yes. Would I actually use this for office duty? With no paper tray and feed-from-behind paper slot only taking in 35 pages max (note: do not try to put in actual 35 pages, for it will jam), no, I would not use it for office duty. And I am sure I have seen the exact same ink cartridge from 1998, which probably means the 1200dpi mentioned on the box is likely a hilarious joke. Do not buy this printer if you do not plan on using HP Instant Ink. The print quality is fine, and speed is actually faster than what I have expected, which I am pleasantly surprised by. Compared to the laser printer, black-and-white documents are not as sharp, and regular font on the inkjet printout looks like bold version on the laser printout. And for color printout--doesn't look very good, either, at least not until you use the high quality setting for color. With regular print settings, you'll be met with overlap lines that are sometimes very noticeable. While it'll be slower to print, I do recommend you print in color with high quality settings if you have any pictures you'd like to show other people on the document. Sometimes some stray overlap lines would show up, but it wouldn't show up in most cases. Again, do not buy this printer if you're not going to use HP Instant Ink. HP Instant Ink is flat rate. Meaning, you can literally print a borderless printout of a night sky for 50 pages and it'll cost exactly the same as if you printed a 4x6 picture of a close up of a snowfield at noon. If you decided not to do that, though--hoo boy, you're in a world of pain, as this used to be HP's way of making mad bank: cheap printers, expensive inks. Case in point: 63XL black ink used for this printer yields (theoretically) 480 pages, at $35. My old Epson printer had ink that would run me $30, but would print 945 pages with same theoretical standard. Print quality is worth $50, but if it matters to you (to be honest, if it actually mattered, I doubt you would have been looking for a $50 printer) consider higher-end machines like Epson WorkForce or OfficeJet Pro. And if you don't routinely print full-page pictures on the printer, something like Epson EcoTank looks mighty tempting, while OfficeJet Pro still allows you to take advantage of Instant Ink program with better print quality. And if you don't really print color at all--may I suggest laser?

    I can finally wireless scan!

I don't print very often and I never fax, but I have been looking for a wireless sheet-feed scanner and this seemed like a good way to handle that need while covering my occasional printing needs. So far I'm pretty impressed with it. It was fairly easy to set up for printing, but when I tried to scan remotely from my computer I was told that I needed to download additional software, but was not directed to where that software might be. I searched the HP site for the Easy Scan app to no avail. I finally searched Google and found it on the iTunes store. Once I downloaded and installed it I was able to scan easily by controlling the scanner in my guest room wirelessly from my laptop in the living room. I also downloaded the scanning app for my iPhone and was able to manage the scanner from that as well. My office is my living room so I don't want a bunch of office equipment sitting around everywhere. With this machine I can keep the printer, scanner, fax (does anybody fax anymore?) machine out of sight but still have it on standby when I need it. In the past I would have to dig the scanner out of the closet, plug it in to my laptop and leave it on the coffee table for the duration of it's use. Now the scanner is available anytime I need it without cluttering up the living room and I can put a stack of docs into it, walk away and manage the scan from the other room. Perfect! I also like the ability to print from anywhere using the iPhone app. When I come home anything I've printed is sitting on the printer waiting for me. Cool. The only thing that I don't love about this all-in-one is that the ink cartridges seem kind of pricey. I think they price them higher so you'll be motivated to join their auto-ordering scheme (basically your printer rats you out to HP whenever the cartridges start getting low.) They pretend that there's a terrific discount through this program, but they seem to be hiking up the prices so they can appear to discount them to a fair retail price. Welcome to the new subscription-based economy! Other than that this is a very practical all-in-one device.

After much research and review reading I settled on this printer. Now I will say that it's a little bigger than I initially anticipated. However I really appreciate it. It's wireless first off, which means less wires connecting and getting in the way. I can even print from my phone which is awesome. The initial setup did take me a while but after that its just click click and done. One really nice thing about this printer is the loading tray and lead for when the paper is coming out. First off it loads from the back in a vertical direction. That sounds like it would take a lot of upward space but I can assure you it does not. Also I like how the ending tray for when the printed paper comes out folds away. For my personal purposes I think it's perfect as I print a few papers a week. receipts, forms and other personal things I like to have a hard copy for. This doesn't seem like it would be ideal for a business though. Overall I would highly recommend for someone to have at home. it's a simple and lovely addition that keeps me organized in my paper work. Also should add that you can print even if you are not on the same wifi as the printer so long as you connect to the printer by linking your email with google cloud print as thats what I use.

    Worst piece of junk

First, my background: I have an IT degree as well as certifications to include one specifically in networking. This is the worst electronic device I have ever bought and it would go back if I had kept the box. I love the printer when it works, the internal fax modem is great, and the automatic document feeder is awesome (so far). That being said, it will not work wirelessly, which defeats the purpose for me. At first, once it went to sleep I couldn't connect to it again until I did a hard reset. I could print from my laptop and everything would go to the printer queue and then print when I did a hard reset. Now, even the hard reset won't work. I have completely uninstalled all of the software connected with the printer several times and reinstalled using the HP software as well as trying the Windows Add a Printer option. I have also tried the Direct Print option, and nothing works more than once. Now, less than two months in, nothing works except taking my laptop in where the printer is located and connecting via usb cable. With the experience I've had so far with this printer, I expect the usb connection to fail any day. I checked for a firmware update but the printer is up to date with the latest firmware. Nothing in the HP forums has helped, and I don't have time to spend hours on the phone with support telling me to try all of the things I've already done before they tell me they can't help, I've been through that before. I know this is a long review, but I hope it will help some to choose a different printer and avoid the problems I have encountered as well as the wasted time and money I have spent on this printer.

I think we bought this for about $50 on sale. Really, we should've purchased more of a work horse ... but this is for my wife's classroom and they don't exactly have a bunch of money thrown at them for this sort of thing. In fact, I don't believe she'll be reimbursed for printer, ink, or paper. LOL She wanted this initially for the easy ink deal since she used a lot of ink. She likes that it does double sided printings well. However, either we didn't look good enough, or the sales person had no idea what the heck he was trying to sell us ... but this is a MANUAL DOUBLE SIDED PRINTER. Meaning you'll need to flip the page and manually feed it back into the printer. Not a big deal if it's only a single copy. However, if you're trying to print 30 copies per class and want it double sided to save money on paper, you're waste just as much time. It's also a fairly slow printer. It takes forever to print once the job is sent via WiFi. I tried sending a job via her work computer as well as both of our phones. Both scenarios seemed like it took forever. It doesn't have an ethernet port so setting up the easy ink was hard as well. For some reason we couldn't set it up on the school's guest network. I had to bring it back home, hardwire in, set it up, and bring it back to my wife's classroom. In the end we returned this and she took my printer from home. If you're looking to print a few pages a week and don't need a heavy duty printer this is just fine for the price. We did attempt to print a photo. I wasn't impressed. It could've been the quality of the gloss paper, but it was still horrible compared to the HP that we already had at home with the same glossy paper

I'm too busy to write reviews these days, but I'm making an exception here because I'm very unhappy with my purchase (today). It's going back tomorrow. Over the years I've set up many (maybe 10) printers, and never a big problem....until now. It took me a good 20 minutes to remove all of the tape and cardboard they stick onto and into this thing. Then I couldn't get it to do much....kept telling me things like "remove packing" or "spooler jammed" or "insert ink cartridges" (I'm certain I did the latter). After what seemed like at least one hour, I gave up and put the printer back in the box. Then I went for another look at the reviews on the Best Buy site. WOW....95% of buyers recommend this printer. So I was just one of the unlucky 5%???? Hard to believe. I see that there were negative reviews, but they were for the most part from a while ago. Then I went and looked up this printer on Amazon. Only 55% gave it 5 stars, and 18% gave it 1 star. I would not have bought it had I known that. Anyway....back to the store it goes. The last thing I need is, if we somehow figure out why it's not operating, it would have problems after the return window. No thanks. P.S. My very first printer was from HP, and I've always had great respect for their printers. Have they cut costs too much?

    Horrible Printing Experience

For starters, the printer on the website says that it has automatic double sided printing. From my understanding that means you do not manually flip the pages to print double sided - the printer does it for you. This printer does not do this, you have to manually flip the pages. Secondly, it constantly gets paper jams. I tried to print a 66 page lab manual for my upcoming class and it jammed ten papers before it told me it was jammed, then when I fixed the jam - it was halfway through printing- it RESTARTED the print job, meaning I wasted approx. 30 pages of my own paper. The loading on the paper tray is weird because it sits very high up, almost out of the tray. You have to hit the top of the paper to get it to go properly in place (this happens when the sizing brackets are loose or to fit). Overall this was a really bad printer and I will be returning it and getting another one. I've had HP printers in the past and they haven't been this finicky and glitchy, I do not recommend anyone by this, it's worth it to spend $10 more for a better hp printer. Side note: The Best Buy store in Chico, CA also told me that this printer had automatic double sided printing and that I would not have to manually flip the pages, but this is not the case.

Set up was easy, I haven't used every feature but it printed text very good. I was told that when you set up the instant ink account that they will ship cartridges and when you receive and start using them the instant ink plan will begin. That was incorrect. The cartridges that come with the printer are instant ink cartridges and when you install them and print anything it counts towards your monthly instant ink plan immediately. It pays to be clear about the instant ink program before buying because the sales people at Best Buy don't provide accurate information at least at this one they didn't. I traded in a printer for 15% towards this printer and the customer service person at Best Buy told me that this printer did not qualify because I had to purchase an HP inkjet printer and this was an Officejet. I explained to her that inkjet is a category not a printer model and that this is an inkjet printer. I said we can get a manager over here if you want and she said I am a manager. She tried the transaction and it accepted it which I knew it would. I also bought the 2 year replacement plan for $4.99. I hope I have better luck with this one, it has good reviews and PC Mag had good things to say about it in their review. My previous printer required head cleaning all the time and would not print in black and white only so it was time for a new one.. While this one does not have all the bells and whistles, it does everything I need. I don't print a lot so it should last a long time.

My inexpensive HP Officejet 3830 Wireless All-In-One Printer is amazingly fast, excellent resolution: 4800 x 1200 dpi color and 1200 x 1200 dpi black only and it's built-in Wi-Fi connects to your computer, smartphone, tablet and other mobile devices. It's standard paper capacity is 60 sheets in and 25 sheets out and a 35 sheet auto doc feeder. It can print 2-sided docs/photos, scan docs/photos, copy and print photos, and send faxes quickly. A 2.2" Mono Touch Screen lets you choose settings manually, as well as, from your computer. It has a High Speed USB Port for connecting to a non wireless computer, camera, etc. I purchased it in early May 2018 and I am still using the ink cartridges (1-tricolor and 1-black) that came with it! Min PC requirements are Windows 7, 1.0GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor, 2GB hard disk space, CD-ROM/DVD or Internet connection and MS Explorer 8. Lastly, it has a sleep mode for power saving.

We all know the most expensive part of any printer is the ink it comes with... Well with that being said, this sucker is little more than a couple of super expensive ink cartridges wrapped up in some fancy plastic. The paper is loaded vertically behind the printer and is exposed as opposed to being contained in a tray at the bottom or even in a compartment below the bulk of the printer. This makes loading paper an inconvenience and exposes it to become covered in dust (which can affect print quality) The lid is really flimsy, but that's what you pay for. Finally, replacing the ink cartridges is very likely going to break your printer. They are tucked away so far inside and there is no easy way to access them. You have to reach in with your fingers and push some lever caps and hop you don't knock the slider out of alignment. It prints as expected, but overall, I'd go with one of the upper models HP offers. I haven't had any problems with this particular model, but I like the HP OfficeJet 4630 even better.

The biggest gripe I had with HP was that their ink prices were ridiculous. I know they were known for their quality, ease of set up, but you had to take a small home mortgage to cover ink prices. Not anymore. They started this program that, depending on the type of printer (like this one), they will automatically send you ink cartridges depending on how many pages you print a month. Starting @ 2.99 for 50 pages, it really works out in your favor financially depending on how much you print. And they give you a 5 month trial to try it out. I got my 1st shipment about 2 weeks after owning the printer, and I haven’t run out of ink yet. I may have to bump up to the $10/300 pages plan, but compared to $25-40 each for b/w and color, in the end it is worth it not worrying about ink. Oh, the thing prints crisply in either color (haven’t tested ink-intensive things like photos in the like); but for the standard user it is a great buy and the best printer at this point I have owned.

I am very disappointed with this printer. It deserves ZERO stars. First, I bought this printer because I was under the impression that this printer could perform automatic double-sided printing due to the claims made on this website that it can "Print 2-sided documents", but this is not the case. You must do it manually, just like any other average printer. I feel deceived. Next the printer almost never prints when you need it to. Even if you restart the laptop or the printer or both, no luck. I have had to wait 6 hours, 1 week or more to get my prints. My latest surprise with this printer was that ONE MONTH after trying to print, the printer just started printing out of the blue what I needed a month ago. Therefore this is an unreliable printer. I hate this printer. If I had realized all this before throwing out the packaging, I would have returned it. Worst printer ever. There is no USB cable, so you are forced to rely on WiFi printing. This has been my first experience with WiFi printing and possibly my last.

I had been looking for a good printer for a while. Didn't know whether to go for Canon or Hp. The reviews for Hp were higher so went for it. Got mine while it was on sale 69.99. Its an all-in-one which includes print copy scan and fax. I've printed from my iPhone, Samsung tablet, MacBook, and moms android phone with out any problems. No over run pages, very clear and fast. I would recommend getting the Hpinstantink program with it to save a lot on ink (up to 50%). I subscribed to the $4.99/mo for 100pgs. New ink is shipped to my home every month and even before my old ink finishes so very convenient in my case. Hpinstantink has 3 different subscriptions $2.99/mo for 50 pgs, $4.99/mo for 100 pgs, and $9.99/mo for over 200 pgs. Oh and a 3-month free trial to start off. Can't get any better than this. This little bundle was a great purchase for me!

As a teacher a printer is a total necessity! Of course we have our school printers, but my school only allows us to print in black and white, so when it comes to printing out my cute little items from TPT I needed to buy my own printer that would allow me to print in color (after all, my classroom has to look cute for my kiddos!). I read reviews online and knew going in that HP was hands down the way to go. It is the best quality for printers. When I got to the store the associate automatically tried to get me to buy a $300 printer and went through all the reasons why I should buy it. I wasn't about to pay that much just to print some colors copied for my classroom, so I asked about this one. The only con to this printer is that you can't load it with 50 sheets of paper. I believe you're only supposed to load it with 10, but do about 30 and it's fine. Other than that, the print quality is great and it's pretty quick too. I also recommend the instant ink. It is very helpful in keeping me stocked so I don't run out!!

It's priced right for what I intend to use it for--which is to have a printer in a summer home where I occasionally have a need to print or copy something. I print out boarding passes, drafts to study spreadsheets or documents, and make quick copies of various things. The print quality is fine. To save on ink, I always use draft quality. But if you need to print something nice, use good paper and set the printer at the best quality and you should find it completely satisfactory. I have no trouble printing from my various devices and from my computer. You can also email a file to your printer's email address and you'll find it waiting for you. I'm not sure how useful this feature really would be but it's kind of fun to know. I found it very easy to print envelops as well.

Replaced HP 3050 on advice of HP customer support because it wouldn't connect with Wifi. He said my printer was obsolete (4 years old) and was not compatible with windows 10. This one seemed good at first, but we don't print very often. It wasn't long before I realized it has the same issues? Contacted customer support 4 times. 3 times they took control of my laptop and adjusted settings. One time the tech told me there were issues with my Technicolor router with all wireless printers and I should call Spectrum to get a new one. Luckily, Spectrum did not charge for the replacement, but even after they remotely adjusted this one, it still lost wireless capability after any long gaps in printing. Turn it off and back on again and your queue will print!. Tried to call one more time and I was on hold for over an hour before they told me that they couldn't take my call at this time, "Please call again later." I'm bringing it back right now.

This is a very good all-in-one machine, but I will stop short of calling it excellent. I am extremely handy and usually get electronics fully functional and up-and-running in no time, but I bought this along with a new Google Chromebook for my parents. This machine did not like connecting wirelessly to their Chromebook. There were directions for connecting to almost any other type of laptop or desktop, but I think the problem was that the Chromebook is still fairly new technology and this all-in-one is a slightly older model. We had to call customer support to finally get it connected. It connected wirelessly to my mom's Galaxy S6 much more easily, though. The fax machine settings have reset themselves numerous times so that it automatically turns itself on after a certain number of rings even though I have set it to not do so three different times. The machine also stopped recognizing standard 8.5x11 paper after a couple of weeks and we had to call customer service again. After getting these problems fixed, it has worked just fine ever since then. Overall, it is a good product. It was just a hassle getting setup and getting the settings to stick. Works well now, though.

I chose this model specifically because I wanted automatic two-sided printing. I work in the education industry, and occasionally have to do last-minute printing from home. I am also a single mother who works two jobs and is in graduate school. I do NOT have the time to sit and babysit a printer to manually feed in each two-sided page. I bought this printer a few months ago, and I am disappointed to see that Best Buy is still continuing to falsely advertise this item. I have contacted their chat support to let them know about the issue; however, they will not start a return automatically, even though they are at fault here. Another issue I have with this printer is that I always have to restart it every time I want to print a document. I might as well keep it off until I need to print if it will not stay ready to receive and print jobs.

Within a week of purchasing this printer, it turned off one day and wouldnt turn back on. I tried everything and finally had to call HP and get it replaced. I received my replacement and that one wouldnt even pull the paper straight to print. It jammed every single time! I called again and they sent me the second replacement. I tried it that very same day to make sure it would work properly. It did for a while and then it started printing so lighlty you could barely make out what was on the page. The printer app on the laptop is telling me there is still ink in the cartridges, but when I try to print something just in black and white, it will act like it is printing but the page comes out clean. I print what I need at work now so I dont have to mess with that printer any more.

      Hi Karla,

I am terribly sorry that you've had such a hard time with the printer. However, I think we can fix it.

It sounds like it is not actually the printer that isn't working, but the cartridges. Assuming the vendor sent you full cartridges, it might be that the nozzles are clogged and you can try running the cleaning routine to clear them. Instructions are in this online document: support.hp.com/document/c04653371

It would have been helpful if a Best Buy Representative would have come to answer our questions at the Kokomo, IN store. However, we couldn't get help so we purchased this printer and a spare ink cartridge. When we got home, we find out there is an ink cartridge inside the box to put in the printer. Then we find out about the Instant Ink Program. The instant ink program is great if you use what you need, and don't go over the amount-and a waste to buy an extra cartridge-but if you decide not to go with the instant ink program, it's a great idea to have that extra cartridge! Also, because it connects to your wifi, it's a great idea to have a wifi connection that will be strong enough for the use of the printer, other wise you have to keep turning the printer off and back on every 2 pages printed, scanned or even copied! But you can also use it without the wifi- and if you do, you can't use the instant ink program! Like I said, would have been nice to know all this from a Best Buy Customer Service person, but nobody would come to help us!
