I purchased this laptop on August 29th after reading the rave reviews of this product. As of today, September 22nd, my laptop no longer works. It gave a white screen upon booting up and never could get pass that. Called Best Buy for help and was informed that it had been past the 14 day mark and since i didn't buy an extended warranty that they couldn't help me. Eventually I had to start over from a backup point and started from scratch. Then last night I was playing Sims 4 and the laptop started making a loud, almost screeching noise, the screen went black and it shut down. Started getting weird messages on laptop and I have been unable to use it since. I am very disappointed with the purchase of this laptop. I just threw over a $1000 away. I will not be purchasing another laptop from Best Buy or getting another HP laptop period. Pure garbage!!!

we bought this for my son because of the specs... two days later lid starts rubbing against the body due to the cut out design.. specs don't matter much when there's a physical design flaw .. went back and exchanged it for a laptop that would open and close without rubbing on the frame.

Used the computer for a few weeks now and I'm very happy with it. The 60hz screen to me is not as bad as people make it out to be but is not as bright as I would want. It's very fast and has great value for the price.

I purchased this the middle of last month, and luckily got 100 off with student deals. I highly recommend this over the 1TB version as I've read the SSD leads to very quick loading and have seen it in action with this rig. I'll break it down into three sections, and then a TL;DR at the end. Firstly, and for what it's obviously gonna be used for, gaming. I don't personally own many high-end games that'd test it, but I have played the space MOBA Fractured Space, and other than excessive heat on a first day run, every day I've played it after, there's been very little heat. Other games like Skyrim, Pillars of Eternity, things like that run smoothly. Second, non-gaming. This is where it shines for me, someone who likes to sit and watch youtube, maybe write a bit. It turns on quick, loads apps quick, and runs quick all throughout the day. That SSD makes all the difference. Third, aesthetics. Visually the laptop looks semi-futuristic, and it rocks the black and red aesthetic that seems to be very popular with the gaming crowd. I'd personally like a blue variant, but it's a purely visual gripe. The keys are backlit, all but the WASD are backlit red with, with those keys being bright red and backlit white. You can change the colors with the app, but the whole thing is red so I'm not changing anything. There's an app you can download onto it that'll let you change it. The polished look is great, though I've heard it leads to stains or is hard to clean. Haven't really noticed. TL;DR, if you are interested in a laptop that is both dependable for gaming and general computer stuff, this is a great choice. The SSD makes for quick speeds, which is great for gaming or running multiple things at once.

Good Laptop, poor color accuracy with the display!

CPU/GPU work great for Adobe Apps like After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro. Even Davinci Resolve runs acceptably on it. Battery life was around 3.5 hours. The red keys are atrocious, I wish they would stop making red and black laptops. Color accurate work is not possible with this screen.

My first ever gaming laptop. Its a BEAST. Plays Forza Horizon 3 better than my Xbox One S. Just wanted a gaming machine I could take with me and this does the trick. Super slick design, great backlit keyboard and not tons of bloatware. In fact, the HP programs that come pre-installed are useful except for maybe one or two. Out of the box it will play most new games on high settings. With Xbox play anywhere (buy a game for PC or Xbox and play on either device only having to pay for the game once) this PC is a no-brainer! Also with Xbox streaming for Windows 10 PC's you don't need 'Xbox play anywhere' for every game because you can stream every game! Great gaming PC.

very good package with one compromise

I have been pleasantly surprised about the looks, overall quality and performance of the machine. granted, I have been using it only for a day, but I have tested quite a few machines lately that I think I could chip in my 2 cents. Biggest plus of this machine, is its unassuming looks. I bet average people wont guess it is a gaming laptop (besides the red marked WASD keys), the new omen design is quite nice. I particularly like the X-diamond back of the display, and the perforated bottom panel (looks to me like borrowed from the more expensive Zbook Studio design). the keyboard is nice, yet the trackpad texture is say an acquired taste but that most people will adjust to. Out of the box, the 8GB ram might be a limit to some people, specially middle to heavy gamers, but the machine is easy to upgrade and being only one dim populated, makes it cheaper to upgrade. from experience, it just takes 5-10 minutes to upgrade to 32GB ram, a standard screwdriver and some care with a plastic pick to pry open the bottom panel. From the other BestBuy gaming, I see BestBuy tends to save money on giving you only a spinning disk, well Ithink the two drives in this machine but with 8GB ram is a better deal than more memory and a spinning disk. The machine is relatively quiet under load, yet BattleField 1 reached 95 celcius peak, average 86, but I think it is a decent compromise. Other plus, HP update software is easy to use, and bloatware (at least things loaded at start-up) are limited. Acer VX15 had more bloatware and Acer website is quite primitive in comparison. Other big plus to me, compared to say old Omen, and Acer cheap options is the mini-display port. the main benefit, is to be able to use a 4K external monitor at 60Hz. don't get me wrong, the 1050Ti will never play at 4k, but say for photo/video editing, it is quite a decent card and being able to pull a color accurate panel allows the machine to be an all in one machine.

Had to replace my Dell I bought back in 2012 and didn't want to spend too much on a new laptop and my prior experience with HP's haven't been good but that's been between 1999 and 2004. I looked at the specs and price on this plus Omen was once sold by Voodoo PC which made boutique special order PC's and Laptops so I thought I would give this system a try, very pleased with it so far, I've had this Laptop for a week now and its very fast, boot-up is around 10 seconds. Having both an Intel and NVidia graphics card is nice also, system switches to the one it needs depending on what the game or software requires, System runs very cool unlike other gamming laptops I have purchased in the past that you can feel the heat it generates when using the touchpad. All my games run with the graphic settings on the high or extreme., operating system and programs are installed on the 128-gig SSD drive so you have plenty of room to add more programs and games plus the 1 Terabyte Drive gives you plenty of room for storage or more programs if needed. One huge improvement this has over the past HP's I have bought is no Bloatware, no HP Trial software and HP programs that do nothing but waste space although I did uninstall about 5 programs that I don't need. Haven't found any cons, so far everything been a plus for me. Priced well and performance is great. There is another slot for another drive and the memory can be expanded to 16 gigs although I have read that some have gone as high as 32 gigs, I will probably will get another matching 8 gigs of memory although I don't think it needs it right now. For the Money this Laptop is awesome for my needs.

It had been several years since buying a laptop and I hadn't done PC gaming for a long time. But needing a new laptop for the family and a young son starting to get into gaming, I did some research and choose this one. I've had it a few months, and have been very happy with the purchase. My son plays some basic games, nothing to taxing and it works great. I was nervous about buying an HP because I didn't really like my last one because the fan noise was always going; but I don't really have that issue with this one. Nice looking laptop, and have to agree with another reviewer, this doesn't really scream gamer laptop, which was appealing to me, since we also use it for family use and sometimes take it on the road. I really like the SSD, the laptop boots up quickly and ready to use pretty fast. not like my other laptop where it took awhile after you turned it on. I also think its a pretty good value for the price and the features.

    Good Hardware, Bad Screen

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

First off, device has great hardware, the CPU and GPU are quite powerful and that NVME SSD boot drive will launch windows before you can get your finger away from the power button. However, the screen/display is fairly bad, it is a IPS 60hz panel, it had some intense light bleed on the bottom left for me, i saw some clear juttering/flashing particularly on darker web pages. The fans were incredibly loud, even while just idling on desktop, more so than any laptop I have experienced. And some how, one day when the laptop was sleeping, i came up to hit and hit the F button to wake it up, and hitting that button made the laptop lose power, it would never turn on again. If you buy this GET THE WARRANTY, A: The fans being that loud indicate this laptop probably wont last a lifetime and B: mine fried when waking it up from sleep by hitting a key, defect maybe, but still.
