Great laptop but just doesn't fit me. Zero issues running massive games but the size is what I find bothersome.

Graphics Card Issue on Second day of Use

Bought for my 11 year old son for Christmas. The graphics card failed the day after Christmas, screen start flickering and was hard to see. Also the battery died on the first day. We had to return the laptop. When we repurchased, we went with a different brand based on expert opinion. I would not buy another HP Omen.

My Honest Review HP OMEN 16 2K 144Hz Gaming Laptop

My Honest Review: HP OMEN 16” 2K 144Hz Gaming Laptop I’ve been using the HP OMEN 16 for a while now, and overall, it’s been a **really solid gaming laptop** — but not without its flaws. Here’s my honest take after putting it through everyday use and plenty of gaming sessions. --- ### 👍 What I Like **1. The screen is beautiful and smooth.** The 16-inch display looks super sharp and clear since it’s 2K resolution. Games and videos look crisp, and the 144Hz refresh rate makes everything feel extra smooth — no lag or motion blur when you’re playing fast-paced games like Call of Duty or Apex. Once you get used to this kind of display, going back to a regular screen feels slow. **2. It’s powerful and fast.** This thing flies. It runs all my games easily — everything from heavy AAA titles to lighter stuff — and multitasking is a breeze. I’ve had YouTube, Discord, and a game running at the same time with no slowdowns. The Ryzen 9 and RTX graphics combo really handle anything I throw at it. **3. The build feels premium.** It’s not flimsy or cheap feeling. The laptop feels sturdy and well made. The keyboard has a nice feel too — good key travel, comfortable to type or game on, and the RGB backlighting adds a nice touch if you’re into that. **4. It stays cooler than I expected (for a gaming laptop).** It still gets warm, but HP did a decent job with cooling. The vents are big, and it doesn’t cook your hands while you’re playing. Fans definitely spin up under load, but that’s expected with gaming laptops. --- ### 👎 What I Don’t Like **1. The battery life is bad.** If you’re planning to use it unplugged, don’t. Gaming on battery power drains it super fast — you’ll be lucky to get an hour or two before it dies. Even just browsing or watching videos gives you around 3–4 hours max. It’s really meant to stay plugged in most of the time. **2. The fans get loud.** When you start gaming or doing heavy tasks, the fans can get pretty noisy. It’s not unbearable, but definitely noticeable — especially if you’re not wearing headphones. It’s one of those laptops that reminds everyone in the room that you’re gaming. **3. The screen wobbles a bit.** The hinges aren’t the strongest. If you tap or adjust the screen, it moves a little. Not a huge deal, but for something at this price point, I expected a sturdier display mount. **4. There’s some pre-installed software you probably don’t need.** It comes with a few extra programs you’ll likely never use (like trial antivirus and other HP apps). Not a dealbreaker, but you’ll probably spend your first 10 minutes uninstalling stuff. --- ### ⚖️ My Overall Thoughts If you’re buying this laptop mainly for gaming or power-hungry work like editing, **it’s a beast**. It performs great, looks clean, and gives you that buttery-smooth 144Hz experience that makes gaming feel amazing. But if you’re hoping for something lightweight, quiet, and long-lasting on battery, this isn’t it. It’s a powerhouse — and with that power comes noise, heat, and the need to stay plugged in. For me, the trade-off is worth it. I wanted strong performance and a beautiful display, and the HP OMEN 16 definitely delivers on that. As long as you know what to expect, it’s a great gaming laptop that’ll last you for years.

Unboxing was sleek and easy, reminding me of apple products. Setup was simple and straight forward. The laptop had some updates to do, which was fairly quick, and then we were all set and ready to go, in under an hour. My daughter (who is the gamer in the family) loves the colorful backlit keyboard, and even more that it is customizable. And the fact that there is a number keypad as some laptops don't have one at all. The touchpad is quite large compared to other gaming/laptops, and very responsive so far. I prefer to use a mouse but when I'm on the couch that really isn't an option. The keys are well lit, though some of the punctuation marks are hard to see. The battery lasted about 6 hours with normal use. But only about 4 hours when used for gaming (and that was playing roblox). I would say keep it plugged in if you want to game all day. I was just watching videos on the internet and the fan came on and was quite loud. I was a little confused why the video was causing the laptop to overheat but I am not a computer gal, other than using them daily, so what do I know? My daughter said it's better than the one I got her last year (also a gaming laptop, with a sticker price of 999 but got on sale for 699). The screen is nice but nothing life changing. I would say if you're a gamer, look at the specs and the price and you'll know if it's right for you. To me it's a nice laptop that works for everyday tasks, watching videos and gaming.

First, this laptop is a beast, it's not light and is pretty solid with a large display. I think for gaming this thing is and definitely delivers in terms of performance for FPS games and other AAA titles. There are a few minor things that I didn't like. What great: The display size and bezel/finish on the display The keyboard feel/layout Speed/performance - the Ultra 7 and 5060 is amazing! Expandability Ethernet and HDMI ports Single power brick Ports on back in center What's not so great: The touchpad (you can only click on the bottom 2/3rds of the pad) The display (bleeds light around the edges in dark scenes) Audio/sound (it's loud but lacks bass for being such a big laptop when compared to other gaming laptops) Lacks additional USB-C ports and faster ports (only has one and it's only 10Gbps) Where this laptop shines is in overall performance. It does run cool and quiet but packs a punch in terms of running any game you can throw at it. I ran Valorant and was able to see great framerates above around with tweaked settings at 144hz. It's definitely possible to tweak and get great performance out of this machine for those games where it matters. And where FPS isn't as critical you can play games on this machine with all settings on max without any issue. I'd recommend this laptop overall for performance, you'll definitely get a lot of bang for your buck out of this machine. The only thing you might want to look out for are the things noted under what's not so great.

I’ve been able to spend so time with the HP Omen. The first thing is straight out of the box this thing is hefty! It is weighty at over 5 lbs. Its thickness is moderate and has decent looks. That being said it takes advantage of the weight and size with performance. Packing an Intel Ultra 7 and a 5060 it needs to be beefy for that hardware. It also has really good I/O with 3 Type As and 1 USB C and a full HDMI port. This thing is packed with ports! I am a person that is always looks for ports and this thing delivers especially when I’m streaming or doing some music production. The looks don’t stop there it has a 144hz 2K screen that makes gaming sharp and buttery. And the keyboard feels great and tactile. Not only is it backlit it also has RGB! This is an awesome touch from HP to add that true gaming feel. Unfortunately, my only gripe is that we can’t have high wattage from a USB C so you have to have the giant Brick with barrel adapter. Only draw back from gaming laptops. Low battery life and giant bricks. But so is life. This laptop is great for competitive shooters and some intense games. You wont be playing Cyberpunk at 4k 144hz but you will be able to get some decent frames in COD and Fortnite at about 120 frames. So you will be able to use that refresh rate. This is definitely a great all around laptop that can chew through workstation tasks and game at night. Just make sure you have a plug nearby.

I was excited to test out the HP OMEN - 16" 2K 144Hz Gaming Laptop with the new Intel Core Ultra 7 255H and put it through its paces. HP OMEN is its line of laptops that are priced for gamers at the entry level of its components. That being said there is a lot to like in this mobile package offering from HP. Pros: Ultra 7 255H - CPU 16 GB DDR5 SDRAM 1TB SSD 5060 RTX GPU Cons Battery Life Testing: The laptop is a beefy laptop, comes in at almost 6 lbs and with a power brick that just as large and hefty. This is a 16 inch laptop with a 1920x1200 144hz screen its a 2k IPS LED so you get a nice vibrant smooth picture. This pairs well with the GPU sweet spot because with it having only 8GB of DDDR7 Ram, your not going to play max ultra at 4k resolutions. Additionally, this come s with your standard plugs, HDMI 2.1, a USB C 3.2, 2 USB type As Wifi 6e and an Audio Jack. It does not have your typical DP port but USB C suffices in its place. OK testing: I played WoW, COD, and BF6 on this albeit at lower specs and managed over 60 plus on everything when it auto selected presets. very Smooth experience, Playing on battery was totally different story. It sounded like a rocket warming up, and lasted me I would say 4 hours max. Other days i was seeing 5-6 hours when I wasn't pushing it hard. Also adjust the fan curve to keep it cool when gaming as the heat is noticeable but doesn't impact. Final Thoughts: great Laptop for gamers who want something on the go, has enough performance with a great screen and some power to do all your homework or daily computing tasks.

I think it’s a great laptop for gaming. It doesn’t really overheat and does a good job at playing games. Only issue I had with it was when I got it the screen randomly had anything with color other than pure white start flashing and I had to factory reset. The issue didn’t happen again so it’s a great laptop
