I bought this monitor bc it also was navida compatible which is the graphics card I have, a 1660ti. Upon trying to play at least 5 different games, my computer locked up, crashed. It did this when I tried to go from 1920 by 1080 to 2400 something resolution and when I went from 60 to 144 refresh rate. HP had no help on their website and no info that came with the monitor. I returned it back to Best Buy. I asked one of the employees at Best Buy if they could help me. I first got an answer if I updated the drivers? Yes I did. Then I was told it was my computers fault. I was then told I should go to you tube for help. Or pay Best Buy $$$$$for help. I think not! I was told by the employee I have to configure each single game. I asked how do I do that? No answer.

1.) The mobility of the monitor is pathetic. All I can do it go up and down, and rotate up and down. You have to turn whole monitor in order to turn the screen. The base is also pathetic, why is it angled? I have a shallow desk and the corner of the piece of garbage sits under my keyboard and makes it wobble. 2.) I has some nice "gaming" features like being able to draw a crosshair or display an fps counter, but my graphics card can do both so that's wasted. 3.) Sometimes it just doesn't wake-up from sleep when I boot my computer. And then on top of that, the power button on the back did nothing. I'd press it, and nothing, I'd hold it down and nothing. Id would have to disconnect and reconnect the monitor's power just to get it to wake up. 4.) Its not durable at all. I had it for maybe 3 months, treated it great, and one day I lightly kick it with my foot while getting down from my bunk bed and it shattered the screen, just like that. 5.) The lights on it were cool though.

I’ve been sitting in front of this monitor for about a week now, and I’m still blown away. Graphics quality is better than every monitor I have ever owned, and that’s saying something. I’ve spent thousands on monitors over the past 25+ years. This is the best I’ve owned. Period. Life is better at 144 Hz. Motion blur is a distant memory. I realize this is 2K, 144 Hz, but good luck finding that to stream. So, I streamed some 4K 60Hz nature scenes (wildlife, mountains, babbling brooks – you know the type), and it was jaw-dropping. I could have been looking out a window. Just beautiful. A drop of water clinging to a monkey’s whisker never looked so good. 1440p on 27” gives a pixel density that pretty much eliminates any perception of individual pixels. This monitor replaces a 32”, 1080p, 60 Hz monitor, and it’s apparent that pixel density matters. Games have never looked better. Recently, I divide my game time between shooters and a driver. No matter what image is being displayed, “smooth” is the word that keeps coming to mind. The 1ms response time ensures that input is as snappy as it can be. I’ll occasionally pause in what I’m doing and just take a minute to appreciate previously overlooked details. Yeah, it actually looks so good that it sometimes takes me out of the game. But I’ve only had it a week; I’m sure that will pass. I’m no expert, but to my eyes, color accuracy is excellent. The HP OMEN 27i Gaming Monitor just exudes quality. Assembly is easy; slide the base into the rear of the monitor, tighten two screws using the provided Allen wrench, and that’s it. The thoughtfulness and engineering that went into the mechanics of this monitor is apparent. Height adjustment is smooth, the base stays put while you're raising/lowering the monitor, the tilt works perfectly, and it is easy to find that just-right height/angle combination that fits your ergonomic needs. The top of the monitor stand includes a cradle for my headset behind the monitor. Very handy for reducing the desktop clutter. Initially I found the diamond orientation of the base a little odd, but I now realize that it adds to the monitor’s stability on the desktop. It just stays put. The box includes a power, a DisplayPort, and a USB 3.0 cable. Unfortunately, my notebook only supports HDMI and there is no HDMI included. A quick trip to the store fixed that. Had I known this, I would have gotten an HDMI 2.0-compatible cable prior the monitor’s arrival. No biggie. The HDMI 2.0 compatibility is an important consideration. To get the most from this monitor (1440p @ 144 Hz), you’ll need the increased bandwidth HDMI 2.0 provides, but, boy, is it worth it! Every activity – even writing this review – is enhanced by the 144 Hz refresh rate. Everything feels smoother. Even the blink of the cursor on the screen is somehow … smoother. I don’t know how else to say it. It’s nuts! Even from the back, it’s obvious this is a premium monitor. There’s full RGB lighting on the rear of the monitor to provide bias lighting. I’ve never had this before, and what a difference. If I someday end up with a monitor without it, I’ll add it. It’s that good. The power button and control joystick are perfectly placed. Power, USB and monitor ports are easily accessible, and cable management is easy through the stand. I started out by saying, “Perfect in almost every way.” There is one small defect in the lower left quadrant of the screen. It’s not a dead pixel. More of a very tiny grayish smudge (a few pixels’ width) that seems to be in the layers of the material in front of the LCD. I didn’t notice it until three days after it was set up, and I really only notice it while working on documents or fixed color backgrounds. In games and videos, it’s a nonissue. I’ll learn to ignore it. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with the HP OMEN 27i and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Resets settings every time I turn on my pc. Also came out of the box with a dead pixel. Not sure why it's under the 4k category when it's 2k. The base stand also takes up a large space on the desk.

Good for gaming and SOHO, but quirky USB

I’m a gamer, albeit a pretty casual one, and I was excited to up my game with a monitor that could take my gaming rig to “the next level.” The HP Omen 27i does not disappoint, I’ve had it just under a week now and each time I fire it up I’m freshly impressed at how much it improves the overall gaming experience. And even when I’m not gaming it is, frankly, a beautiful display for normal use as well. Summary -- Large enough to replace dual monitors in many cases. 165Hz capable monitor, fast but quirky USB ports (more on that at the end), 2 RGB LED zones for ambience, and The HP Omen Command Center app for convenient software control of many monitor features otherwise accessible only through the display’s own menu. This monitor is a dream as my daily driver, and for gaming to unwind when the work day is over and when the weekend has come. For performance testing and setup the monitor has the native ability to display a constantly-updated refresh rate so you can know with certainty the immediate impact of settings as you tweak them. FreeSync works like magic with my existing gaming rig for fluid motion that improves the feel of gaming as much as setting up a dedicated gaming rig did in the first place. If you have a FreeSync capable video card but not a FreeSync capable monitor an upgrade like this is a “must”. The details -- Lots of monitors are “big”, but what makes the HP Omen 27i stand out is that it 1) supports a refresh rate up to 165Hz and 2) supports AMD FreeSync to keep your video card and monitor in constant optimal sync with each 1) A refresh rate of 165Hz just means the monitor is capable of refreshing the screen up to 165 times every second. In contrast, many common monitors and laptop displays support a refresh rate of just 60. There are basically two-sides to your video refresh rate: a) the refresh rate capability of your monitor, and b) the refresh rate capability of your video card. Your monitor and video card have to agree on a refresh rate and the less-capable of the two is the determining factor -- So you may have this 165Hz-capable monitor but if your video card caps at 60… you’ll be stuck at no more than 60. Finally, there’s also the framerate of your game which is determined by how many frames per second (FPS) your computer and video card can compute. It’s this last piece that can be tricky and problematic because FPS during a game is almost constantly fluctuating. For a long list of reasons I won’t detail, your FPS can vary quite a bit from moment-to-moment in a game, and this variability introduces problems of visual lag, stutter, and tearing. These problems occur when the FPS of your game and the refresh rate of your monitor don’t match, resulting in either frames needing to be delayed or repeated (stutter/lag), or in your computer displaying parts of multiple frames simultaneously, tearing. Neither effect is desirable and, due to the constantly-changing nature of FPS, a high refresh rate alone simply can’t solve the problem. Enter FreeSync... 2) FreeSync is an AMD technology that allows a FreeSync capable video card and monitor to work-together to keep the constantly-changing FPS of the game and the refresh rate of your monitor in perfect sync. The result is that lag, stutter, and tearing are virtually eliminated, and it’s a beautiful thing to behold. And honestly, if you have a FreeSync enabled card and display, the magic is about as simple as that -- simple behind-the-scenes wizardry that will entirely rejuvenate your gaming experience. 1+2) The combined result of a high refresh rate and FreeSync is a lag/stutter/tear free gaming experience that helps you see changes, react, aim, and game as smoothly as your system will allow. Being able to see opponents a frame or two before they could see me was enough of an edge to allow me to pull the trigger that (sometimes decisive) tiny bit quicker, and the fluidity helped my aim to be more predictable and precise. It’s not hard to describe, but there’s also nothing quite like experiencing for yourself how it all comes together to improve your game. A smorgasboard of other observations: * Your computer may or not automatically use this display optimally. I suggest turning on the refresh rate info in the display’s menu when you first set it up to make sure you’re getting the most out of it. You may need to adjust your display adapter properties manually to take advantage of the increased refresh rate capabilities. * I can’t recall where I found the spec/info, but experience and info I found says that with HDMI this monitor caps at 144Hz. If you want 165Hz you’ll need to use a DisplayPort connection. * The RGB zones are such a nice touch. During the day I like to use “task light” mode and it serves as a helpful desk light right in front of my monitor. At night and when gaming I like to set it to orange and bring the room lights down. I only wish the RGB zones could be set to stay active even when the display goes into low-power mode. If that’s an option I haven’t found it, and believe me I’ve looked! * The HP Omen Command Center app, which installed automatically for me, is a much more convenient way to access the monitor internal controls than through the display’s own behind-the-panel navigation stick. You can easily setup the lighting zones the way you’d like, toggle the refresh rate and built-in dead-center crosshair, select the mode (standard, gaming, movie, low-blue,... ), etc. * My one and only “concern” is that the USB ports seem a little quirky though I’m still trying to nail down exactly what’s happening and whether there’s anything I can do about it. The issue is this: when the monitor (not my PC) goes to sleep for inactivity the USB ports seem to continue to work as expected -- My Logitech G512 RGB keyboard continues to work, stay lit, and color-cycle normally. However, as soon as I wake up the monitor (pressing spacebar for example) my G512 appears to briefly lose power (goes completely dark) and then comes back online a few seconds later, as if it was unplugged and plugged-in. It does this every wake up cycle if my G512 is plugged-in to the monitor’s USB ports. It does NOT do this if I bypass the monitor and plug the keyboard directly into any USB port on my PC. It seems the USB ports on the monitor reinitialize each wake up cycle which can be problematic. I also realized at one point that my webcam, also plugged-in to a monitor USB port at the time, was no longer working. Again, I remedied it by simply bypassing the monitor USB ports. So the USB ports seem to work but in my experience they “reset” every time the display wakes up. And while most of the time this reset is behind-the-scenes and not even noticeable (I don’t think I’d have noticed it for a long time if my keyboard wasn’t RGB) it’s not something I’d want for any permanently connected device -- like a keyboard, mouse, and webcam. The USB ports are awkward enough to reach though that such permanent devices seem their intent. In practice I ended up attaching short USB extensions to them so they dangle just below the bottom of the monitor and I use them just for ephemeral devices -- flash drives, phones, etc. Maybe a firmware update can fix this, or maybe I’ll find some other remedy, but for now the only difference seems to be the monitor itself -- devices plugged directly into USB on my PC simply don’t “reset” during a wake up the same way they do when plugged-in to the monitor. As much as it pains me, I currently pin the issue on the monitor.

I've got this monitor hooked up to my Nvidia 1080Ti in my Dell XPS machine running at the full 165Hz using the provided Display adapter cable. The picture quality is superb and I have to say I think it may be a little better than my Asus Gaming Monitor that was running at 144Hz. I've had no performance issues since installing, for video intense (shooters) or less (turned based or sprite) games. A couple of cool features this monitor brings: there are some backlight options. Out of the box it's a consistent white, but if you dig into the monitor settings you will find that you can have it change colors, while also doing a pulse/breathing effect. It really helps because this is a lot of screen on my desk (at most 3' away), and it can get tremendously bright with some game effects (I did turn down the OOTB brightness down as well). There is also a bracket to hold your gaming headphones behind the monitor, which really helps unclutter my desk. Note that this won't be as big a benefit if the monitor is right up against a wall. I've also moved my USB mouse and keyboard to the ports on the monitor. but at this point I consider having those ports just the sign of any serviceable monitor nowadays.
