Amazing display*
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: HP really built a quality display with this Omen 27i IPS. The whole thing feels uber soild, and the stand is metal and quite heavy. I actually "downgraded" my resolution from a super duper cheap 4k 60hz display to get that sweet 165hz. One of the first things I noticed was how RIDICULOUSLY smooth 165hz is vs 60. Then I noticed that I could see multiple shades of grays and better blacks! The contrast is so much better on this panel. It gets SUPER bright too! *Cons: My only issue with this panel is the "response time" options. You'll need to mess around with it, because at the "fastest" mode for me, I got HORRIBLE ghosting in a few FPS's. Oddly enough, for my "older gamer" 31 year old eyes, I couldn't tell a difference in response time other than seeing ghosting, so I left it on the normal setting, which looks great and there is zero ghosting. (honestly wondering if maybe they somehow messed up the settings and the starting level is actually the best? not sure, just be aware!) Side notes:This panel does have 2 zones of accent lighting, one that points straight down under the edge of the panel which is nice for gaming in a dark room. There is also a square area in the back around the I/O (and controller board I'm guessing) that is an independent lighting zone. You can lock them together which I currently have, or you can control them separately. The I/O is at odd 45 or so degree angles, so cable management is a little more difficult. I'm one of those who lives with a mostly spaghetti pile of cables, but I'm guessing those with epic cable management will need to take a bit more time on it. TLDR: If you need a higher refresh IPS 2K display, this is a good option!

Great QHD monitor
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The OMEN by HP 27i gaming monitor is a very good monitor for both gaming, multimedia, and normal use. I use my computer in all of those ways frequently, and this monitor made such a difference that I will not be using my old FHD monitor anymore. This monitor does have a 27 inch viewable area, and the display is IPS LED. It was very simple and quick to get this monitor hooked up to my laptop. It comes the power cord, a DisplayPort cable, a HDMI cable, and a USB Type-A to B cable. My laptop's graphics card uses HDMI output, so setup was as simple as getting the stand setup, plugging in the HDMI to both the monitor and my laptop, and then plugging in the power cord. The monitor also has three USB 3.0 ports: 2 for downstream, 1 for upstream. The monitor sits on a sturdy square stand using double pillars. I found the stand and pillars to be sturdy to the hard touch, while providing firm, reassuring resistance when trying to rotate the monitor. The black bezel is thickest along the bottom edge, with thin bezel on the other three edges. The User Controls are standard: Color, Image, Gaming, Power, Menu, Management, Language, Input, and Information. It was intuitive to get into the User Controls and tweak the settings to my taste. The QHD 16:9 image this monitor produces is incredibly nice, and noticeably better that the image of my old FHD monitor. It supports a number of resolutions, up to the QHD 2560x1440. What this means is that if you have the graphics card in your computer to support it, you can get a 2K image from the monitor. I went into my commonly played games and tweaked the settings up to the 2560x1440 resolutions, and it made such an impressive difference in how those games looked. It wouldn't seem that a step from FHD to QHD would be that big, but after seeing the difference I won't be going back. The monitor has a response time of 1ms, and I had no observed issues with response lag. Netflix and Disney Plus looked very nice, and the clarity really popped for me. I tried sitting at different common viewing angles and the image looked good in all of them. The one feature that I had to adjust the most is brightness. This monitor has a brightness of 350 nits, but I found I had to keep adjusting the brightness higher to get to an image that I liked. The room I had it in is somewhat bright and the montitor does have effective anti-glare, so it may be a non-issue for an average or darker viewing area. That is the only issue that I have with this monitor. Overall, this is a very good monitor that provides an incredible QHD image that is a noticeable step up from FHD. It produced a quality image no matter what I was using it for, and I would reccommend it for any user looking for their next monitor.

An Excellent Addition to Your Gaming Rig
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Omen 27 is a beautifully fast, bright, and responsive gaming monitor in HP’s line of higher-end gaming monitors. Outstanding color, nice, deep blacks, and a couple of other smart built-in features make this a great choice for your gaming rig. The picture is crisp with an excellent resolution for gaming (native is 2560x1440 at 60Hz; my son ended up playing a little with this and opted to reduce the resolution down to around 1600w for a couple of his games specifically and preferred the smaller resolution, but guess it depends a lot on preference and the game you’re playing). At full resolution and max refresh rate (up to 240Hz), there is no noticeable flicker, no pixilation, and just made games look good. Even when using for non-gaming desktop applications, it was a pleasure to use. The system features HDMI and DisplayPort inputs. Clearly, you will get the best gaming results with the DisplayPort, but I found no major issues with using my gaming laptop which only includes an HDMI connection. I ended up using the DisplayPort for hooking to my desktop rig and then using a streaming device on the HDMI when I want to watch a movie or something (there are audio out ports on the monitor to allow you to hook in external speakers or directly connect your headphones if you’re not using a set of that has an amp/mixer). The back also features 3 USB 3.0 ports, of which I didn’t end up using since I had enough on my desktop, but does give you the added flexibility if you’re low on ports or you just want to do some better cable management. There is also a user-configurable LED underside light that lights up your desktop, which includes a number of pre-set colors but can also be set to any color code you wish. With all the lighting in my room, plus the LED lighting on my keyboard, mouse, and mouse pad, I ended up turning this off, but is a nice touch. Had this been an adaptive light that changed colors with the image on the screen I would have been ecstatic, but found the light to be a distraction. One of the other “Hey, that’s a nice addition” features of the monitor is the adjustable stand also includes a platform at the top of it to hang your headphones. Something like that doesn’t cost anything extra to add, and shows you the level to which Omen thought out their design. As for the ports on the back of the monitor, they’re all designed at a 45-degree angle. Personally, I found that a little difficult to end up trying to plug in to, but see the logic behind it in terms of cable relief or not having to try & blindly plug something in upside down from below. Ultimately, this is another in Omen’s line of winners, giving you a monitor that will both look amazing on your desk and give you spectacular in-game performance.

Fast Gaming Monitor - Works with G-Sync
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had LCD monitors for gaming for the last 13 years. My first was 75hz and 24". The trade off of heat from my old 20" CRT was worth it, but I had to deal with some image issues like blur and color shifts as you moved. Later came 100, 120, 144, and now I'm playing with a 165Hz monitor. Can you say "buttery smooth?" I thought 120 and 144 were impressive. 165 takes it to another level. This is as close to old CRT tech that I've seen in an LCD. Even with higher refresh rates you still have that pixel response time that causes a little blur but you can adjust it a bit lessen it but I haven't seen an LCD that's ever gotten rid of it completely. Viewing angles are good, but honestly, when are you going to game at 100° off? So as long as it looks great head on, I'm fine. What the viewing angle does is that it makes your off center images not vary by much when you look from edge to edge - which is a problem in quite a few larger monitors. While gaming it's not too prevalent since you're looking at constantly moving images, but when doing color correction it can be a problem. But since this is a gaming monitor - forget work! lol. As of this review there's no manual that I can find for the 27i online. The documentation included in the box only has as quick set up guide, warranty card, FCC docs, and warranty info. Until they put up a manual somewhere, you're on your own to figure out the features. Currently you can refer to the old model's docs to get you started as most of the feature are the same. The Omen 27i comes with an adjustable stand with a headphone rack on the back to keep everything tidy while you're not gaming. The stand goes from 1.25" to 6.25" (measuring the bottom of the monitor to the desk). Even so I needed to get a monitor stand to raise it higher. Sadly there's not VESA support so my monitor arms are useless with the 27i. I'm not really sure why any company would leave out VESA support. The ambient lighting feature is nifty but not really big deal for me. I use active ambient lighting from a third party that scans the gaming screen and reacts to the scene. Static/Random/Breathing ambient lighting is kinda...boring. But still, in a dark room the ambient lighting adds contrast by making your eyes perceive shadows as deep black instead of grey. A few other feature are Timers, FPS monitor, and on screen crosshairs. I haven't played any games that don't have crosshairs but I can see how this would be a plus if they were excluded. The only feature I'd actually use is the FPS display on troubleshooting occasions. I did test G-Sync compatibility since I don't have a Radeon card to test freesync. As long as the FPS says over 40 there was no obvious tearing and everything remained smooth on the Pendulum demo. I couldn't control turning G-Sync on and off in the demo. G-Sync and V-Sync need to be enabled in the Nvidia Control panel. Through all the tests I found keeping Sharpness at default and Response time at Level 2 gave me the best performance with the least amount of ghosting. The 27i comes with a 6' displayport cable and a 12' power cable with a brick attached. These should give you plenty freedom to place the monitor where you need. Now I'm off to calibrate the display before I start gaming. I just hate oversaturated, too bright colors, lol.

Dedicated Gaming Monitors Are Worth It
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, I have always been a cheap gamer… my work mouse, work keyboard, work monitor, and work computer dual purposed as a gaming machine… lately I’ve been upgrading each part and it is completely worth it. In fact, for working this is now my favorite monitor I own. One of the first things about the this monitor I appreciated was the fact I don’t have to find an empty box of just the right height to set this on to raise it to my eye level, I love the fact that it raises and lowers with minimal effort but stays exactly where you stop it. I will say the mount with the triangle out the front isn’t my favorite since I have a skinnier desk, but I still have room for my keyboard and mouse on the desk with it, so it works. I really like the ports not sticky out the back but instead being pointed down. I plugged the downstream USB into my computer and ran the mouse and keyboard from the monitor and I didn’t notice any lag (once I made sure I was using USB 3.0 on the computer side as well) It has a full sized display port and HDMI as the options to plug your monitor in, it only comes with a display port cable though, so if you do have HDMI make sure you have or buy a HDMI cable the is actually capable of 165Hz refresh, otherwise you loose probably half the reason your even looking at this monitor in the first place. The bezels are slim and overall, it is a very nice-looking monitor. It is a flat monitor, which just means that it is for some and not others. Also, the bottom light is customizable and can cycle through colors and the back light can be set to a different color as well for some neat affects… or you can use the white light for a okay desk light, or maybe if you don’t have backlite keys. On to the software portion, HP Omen software downloaded automatically to my PC, for me this was nice, others might not prefer that. It then wanted to agree for me to send them a ton of information I really wasn’t interested in sending them, but I was able to not agree and continue-on. There is a whole gaming portion to the software as well as a link to sell you more omen branded equipment but if you just select on the monitor that is where you can customize the lighting along with the responsiveness, color, FPS counter, and crosshair overlay. Lastly I will mention the resolution, I think I have found my favorite resolution, I had a 4k monitor at work that was horrible, it had a hard time with any program that wasn’t designed in the last few years (yeah I have to deal with old programs) but some might have that same issue at home. 1080 is nice and good enough. But this 2k is perfect for me, the icons are defaulted to an extremely nice size and everything is just the way I would prefer it. So for me I am completely happy with this resolution and it is awesome to play games on. Overall I am quite happy with this monitor and if you are in the market for a monitor that will make your games come alive just that much more, looks nice, and can double as a great work monitor; then this might be the one for you. Pros: -bright nice display -Response time -easy software installation -fancy lighting -USB ports on the monitor -Display port and HDMI port -Resolution -variable height stand Cons: No vesa mount No usb c port on monitor

Awesome, next level, gaming monitor
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The OMEN is an impressive versatile monitor, with IPS LED QHD, 165 HZ refresh rate, AMD FreeSync, and a large 27" screen for awesome no lag gaming and streaming (when coupled with a performance graphics card). In the box is the monitor, adjustable stand, displayport cable, USB 3.0 cable, and power cord. Setup is a quick plug and play, snap the back of the monitor onto the stand and tighten the 2 hex screws in the stand to secure the monitor. The stand allows for height adjustment as well as tilt. There is a button on the back of the monitor allowing the user to toggle through settings, to include input, display options, and blue light reduction. The monitor has ambient lighting, with the option to turn on/off. I did find the ambient light to be too bright and would have preferred the option to dim versus just on/off. There are 2 USB, 1 USB 3.0, 1 HDMI, 1 DisplayPort, and 1 audio jack ports on the back of the monitoring, allowing for multiple input options. As far as performance goes, this monitor does it all. I have it in a room with abundant natural light, and have no issues with viewing angle or glare during the daytime. I did some minor settings optimization between gaming mode (at night) and using it for document viewing during the day. The color quality and contrast is vivid and is as expected for a QHD monitor. The resolution is amazing, and with a 1 ms response time no matter what game I loaded the graphics responses were top notch, even putting my 144 FPS monitor behind this one in performance when using the same setup to drive both monitors. Overall a solid purchase for those looking to step up from an entry level gaming monitor. Highly recommend.

Great IPS Monitor
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall this is a great monitor both in 2k and 1080p Pros You can change the settings through the OMEN software for gaming, editing, or just everyday use. The colors out of the box are almost true to what they are supposed to be, you could calibrate the settings if you would like that perfect RGB, but its what you would expect out of an IPS panel. 1ms Delay on gaming mode Does not scream gaming monitor like other ones, this one is sleek and blacked out, there is also an LED that turns on under the monitor that you can turn on and off. Can be tilted up and down and moved up and down to your liking. Very bright panel, and i mean it, if you have the brightness all the way up it will hurt your eyes, which might not be as bad in a room with good lighting. Cons No speakers but no big deal most monitors with speakers don't sound that good anyways. The RGB lights are in the back and you cant see them if you have the monitor pointing towards a wall. The menu buttons are pretty far up in the back of the monitor, and it can be annoying if you are trying to go to navigate through the settings with those buttons. Overall this is a great monitor for editing, gaming and everyday use, it has a sleek design not too loud, and easy to tweak through the Omen Software.
