The HP Omen 34c is a large-sized curved monitor that, in my opinion, would be good for everyday use and mid-level gaming. At its price point, it has a lot to offer with features such as Adaptive Sync, AMD Freesync, QHD display with HDR, great response time, and fast refresh rate. For those of you who are super-picky about features or are into high-level gaming, there are other more expensive options that you could look at. Contents and Assembly This is a larger monitor, so the box is a little heavy. The monitor with the stand weighs over 23 lbs for reference. If you have an arm mount that you are going to use, you may want to consider the weight. Some arm mounts are not rated for that heavy of a screen. Contents include the 34” curved gaming monitor, tilting stand arm, stand base, plastic cord management clip, set-up guide, operating instructions, roughly 6 foot display port cable, and power cord. The mounting bracket on the back is a typical 100 x 100 VESA bracket. Assembly is fairly quick. To set up the stand, all of the components snap into place. There is one screw at the bottom of the base. You may want to have a screwdriver to tighten that screw. General Specifications Screen Size: 34” Refresh Rate: up to 165Hz for Display Port, less for HDMI 1 millisecond GtG OD response time Maximum Screen Resolution: 3840 x 2160 (QHD) with HDR VESA ClearMR 6000 certified Brightness – 400 candela Panel Type: VA Display Type: LED Backlight Technology – Edge lit Synchronization Technology: VESA Certified Adaptive Sync and AMD Freesync Aspect Ratio: 16:9 Has 3 Watt Integrated Speakers Ports and Connections Headphone Jack HDMI 2.0 Inputs: 2 Display Port (Version 1.4): 1 Webcam: None Appearance This is the first curved monitor that I have tried, so it does have a different feel to me. I notice the thicker curved screen when walking into the room. The monitor is rigid, so the curvature is a set 1500R. There are other monitors out there where the screen can be bent to various curvature, but this is not one. The monitor casing is all black with minimal lettering, so the color doesn’t stand out. The stand is rigid with no rotation left to right. It can adjust vertically to different heights and the screen can tilt up and down. This is all a smooth push-pull motion with no clicking and has a nice feel to it. Wire management is built into the arm so that you can run the wires within the arm minimizing their appearance at your desktop. There’s a plastic clip to add for cable management if you’d like to use it. There is no backlighting with this monitor. For me, this is a huge miss by HP. They are catering to a gamer audience and have colorful ads and packaging. The HP Omen software hub even has the controls for RGB, but they chose not to add any RGB lighting to the monitor. Display / Picture Quality Video streams – I used a fully downloaded 4K HDR demo video to test the quality of a streaming picture. The picture had really good detail, but it had some lag at faster moving scenes and didn’t quite keep up. Picture quality – This monitor displays at a wide format 21:9 aspect ratio which isn’t always supported so you will likely have some cropped images / videos as expected with the aspect ratio. I set the desktop display to the maximum screen resolution (3840 x 2160), and the still images all look really good. Good color, depth, and clarity. Brightness – The Omen 34c has a 400 candela rating. There are brighter screens out there than this. For me, I need to use this on Gamer mode to get the brightness that I want. If you turn on HDR in the Windows display settings, you do not get to choose the brightness setting on the screen. Without the Gamer mode, I felt that the display was darker than I wanted. Games – Gaming is pretty smooth overall with good detail. I did have a slight visible lag during gaming. Sound Quality I mentioned that there are dual 3 watt speakers for audio. These are not of award winning sound quality, but they are much better than most of the integrated monitor speakers that I have heard. Most of the recent integrated speakers from other manufacturers sound worse than my cell phone speaker, so I wanted to give kudos to HP for including something reasonable here. HP Omen Hub I’m not a fan of having to install a software hub for my monitor. The fact that the software instantly installed on my machine (I guess straight from the monitor?) makes me very mad. It asked if I wanted to install the additional “booster” software and I said no. It shows that it is not installed in the hub, but every time I load a game there’s a pop-up that says that it is freeing RAM to “boost” my game. As I touched on before, the hub has RGB controls, but there’s no RGB lighting on the monitor. The hub looks like bloatware and ads to me. I didn’t want it on my machine as I have other RGB software to control various lighting and speed controls. Adding additional controls just increases the likelihood of a software conflict. Overall, if you want a nice monitor for a typical office setting, a daily usable home screen, or are at the mid-level for gaming, then the HP Omen 34c may be a good monitor for you. If you are a heavy gamer or creative designer who needs the high refresh rates, a brighter screen, and true 4K picture, then you may want to spend more money for a higher level monitor. I think for most people that this will fit the bill. I am giving it 4 stars due to the bang for the buck.

Now a believer in the curved gaming experience

I’m a gamer and desktop builder by heart, but I am completely new to the curved monitor world. The curved gaming monitor was a was a pretty sizable upgrade over an older 27 inch flat panel HD monitor that has seen its best days some time ago, and after planfully upgrading parts and pieces of my desktop over time as budget permitted, it was finally time for the display. My last computer upgrade (a Christmas gift from my wife) was a new Nvidia 3080 graphics card, a that is a lot of horsepower that was severely capped on 1920x1080 resolution at only 75hz. I stayed out of the curved monitor arena for a few years because it seemed gimmicky to me at first, and at the end of the day I just liked what I knew and what I was comfortable with. My fears were unfounded, I was vastly incorrect with that assumption- as a gamer (primarily), the new experience is pretty outstanding. The HP Omen 34c offers a ton of technical upgrades over my old screen: the visual real estate jumps up to 34 inches on the diagonal, and the new 21:9 aspect ratio makes the monitor a fairly girthy unit (the footprint is a full 32 inches wide compared to the 24 inches the old monitor occupied on my desk). It definitely commands the space that was reserved previously for a dual monitor setup. Not a problem, however, that sacrifice is well worth the upgrade. The viewing experience is a super crisp level of detail and depth with the 3440x1440 native resolution, while the 1ms response time and a 165hz refresh rate combine to take full advantage of the graphics card I just upgraded in delivering a smooth gaming experience free of ghosting and tearing. While my graphics card is an Nvidia, it plays just fine with the embedded Freesync technology and the Omen is a great monitor to unlock the powers of a decent card. If you are investing in a higher-end screen, make sure you have a graphics card with enough horsepower to push it, otherwise you will not get the full offering of features the screen is designed for. Tech specs aside, the assumption around the monitor I really got wrong was the gimmicky part. There are high end flat panels that offer similar specs, there is nothing special about high resolution or refresh rates. The really special part is how the monitor unlocks your level of immersion. From a size and space perspective, the wider aspect and curvature of the screen is engineered to mimic your eyes, providing better viewing angles, a more complete sense of periphery and a natural and comfortable viewing experience. It took me a bit to get used to that part, the field of view was now much larger than I was used to, and I had to train my eyes a bit to start paying attention to the extra space I didn’t get before. In FPS games, that was a pretty invaluable upgrade for increased awareness and I felt like I had more control of the field. For RP games with high detail content (think Rise of the Tomb Raider), holy smokes does the Omen 34c bring a gaming environment like that to an entirely new level. It is instant replay value for a few titles I had already played, just for the expanded field of view and richer level of color, detail and responsiveness. Check your game library for support, not all games appear to have been built with this in mind (sad face for Fallout 4, I was kind of looking forward to replaying that one). The overall package of design, quality and delivery of gaming experience really amazing, you won’t find many curved monitors offering better value for the price point. I have very few critiques of it, but worthy of noting if of importance to some. First, the audience for the monitor is primarily a gamer. It is a decent unit for watching movies, but that isn’t why you should invest in this screen. It is also great for multimedia applications, but man I find it hard to work on it. Strange experience when you open an excel workbook, but not a negative as that also isn’t the reason to invest in this, just an interesting footnote that not all applications on your desktop port equally or as comfortably. From a built standpoint, it is a very sturdy unit with only a few design points that I thought could be better. For the cost, do your audience a favor and add some LED somewhere. The screen lacks any lighting, but there is an Omen lighting suite to control just that. The mount and movement is also a bit limited. Easy and smooth action moving the screen up and down, but it only tilts up, and there is zero movement left or right. That is a mechanical action, and should have been a relatively inexpensive add to the build to add customization or flexibility to screen positioning. Lastly, with the massive size and the large arm to bury cables in for neat cable management, I’m not sure why the inputs are on the bottom of the screen instead of the rear. With the necessary footprint due to the massive size, make the inputs come out perpendicular so they can route to the arm and be hidden completely without bending them and stressing the input. Minor things, but important to the whole offering. A wonderful design by HP on the whole, and a joy to finally be able to optimize what my rig can do in a way that I hadn’t been able to experience gaming before, it is definitely worth the leap if you (like myself) weren’t necessarily a believer in curved viewing out of the gate.

There are so many things I love about this monitor, so let's start there. The setup up was straightforward. Few parts that were easy to assemble. The monitor itself is relatively light so you're not gonna have a hard time moving it around. It is compatible with a (100 mm x 100 mm) VESA mount, although I really like the stand it came with. Sturdy and sleek. Thankfully, It arrived with zero dead pixels and I noticed minimal screen bleed. It comes with two HDMI 2.0 ports and one 1.4 Display Port so you have options. It also comes with integrated speakers. It is 34" diagonal and boy does it take up its fair share of desk space. The resolution is quite crisp at 3440 x 1440. While gaming everything looks vibrant and well defined. Additionally, the 1ms response time is impressive. The refresh rate goes up to 165Hz which is more than enough for me. This monitor is perfect for FPS gaming or even casual gaming. It's so immersive, playing anything on it is enjoyable in my experience. The only thing I'm not the biggest fan of is the integrated speakers. The sound just isn't there. However, I usually use headphones, so it's a non-issue. Overall, this monitor is impressive and I'm delighted with it!

Monitor was great till it wasn’t. 3 months after purchase and no issues the monitor just fell off the stand and broke. HP doesn’t do anything for a cracked screen so you are just stuck buying a new monitor. Terrible experience.

I have only ever tried using a curved screen in a work setting so this has taken a little time to get used to. Overall this things is quite impressive and I love how wide the monitor is with the thinnest of bezels along the side of the screen. The stand is easy enough to use to bring the monitor to your desired height, while being easy to get the perfect view with a little bit of tilt as well. One of my pet peeves is keeping my desktop looking clean and thankfully it has a cable management system on the back of the monitor. The speaker quality is quite good for a build in speaker system but I run separate speakers always to get more in depth audio quality. The 2 HDMI ports, as well as the Display Port should make it easy enough to get you started with your new awesome screen. The colors are rich and vibrant and make any game look like new with a bright screen and great color quality. Game Play Not having used a curved monitor for gaming The OMEN 34c has changed my life and I could never go back to a regular flat panel monitor. The aspect ratio is easy to manage and no matter what game I played the aspect ratio always seemed perfect. The colors stayed true to the game and were always popping on the screen and I felt true to the game designers vision. Once immersed in the game having such a large screen makes the viewing angels super important and I felt like I was in the game itself. Monitor Tech Having a 165 Hz refresh rate is great and made my gaming experience top notch. Many features are accessible in the on screen display. I was quite impressed with the number of options that were presented to me. A real perk to me was the FPS mode and I loved the feature as not only can you turn it on but you can choose the colors and move the location as well. If you do not want to see the power LED on the bottom of the screen you also have the option to turn that off. Again the speakers are not amazing but are really great compared to monitors that I have used in the past.

The HP Omen offers a stunning 34" curved display that is sure to please most gamers out there. However at the strong price point that this unit is coming in at the real question is rather or not its the correct buy for your gaming needs. Out of the box you get everything you need to get you started. You get an adjustable stand and adjustable tilt base. You can adjust height and up/down tilt. The monitor does come with built in speakers but trust me when i say to you that it really is pointless having speakers built in to this monitor. Sound quality is garbage and to be quite honest they could of freed up some space by leaving that option out of the equation. Not a big deal for me personally as i game with a headset on anyways. The back of the display does also allow for a Vesa mount, which is the way went vs the provided stand. Keep in mind you will have to buy your own Vesa mounts. The HP OMEN monitor is going to offer you an array of color options along with some prep-set options as well. You can expect to find your standard adaptive sync controls to help limit frame rate as well as an option for full adjustment of your refresh rate. At the highest refresh rate setting and sync controls off, i was able to play Call of Duty at ultra settings with zero lag or ghosting all while maintaining a full 80 frames. One really cool feature this monitor offers is on screen countdown timers and stopwatches to assist with speed runs. This is actually the first time i seen this built in to a gaming monitor and to be quite honest i think its a really cool feature for those looking to set personal best timed runs. Now lets talk picture quality for a second. I was honestly a little curious as to how well picture quality would be displayed at its current 3440x1440 resolution. Resolution is outstanding to say the very least. Games like the Last of Us or Final Fantasy IV were absolutely stunning with bright greens and reds shinning through and blacks that were so true they looked natural against a night sky. MMO battles are stunning and vibrant all while maintaining a cool 160 refresh rate. This monitor was able to handle everything i threw at it without missing a beat. So this is really a no brainer, if your looking to buy a monitor that is going to give you some future proofing, then this is the way to go. Picture quality is superb however there are other monitors that offer the same quality at a lower price point, but with that being said what truly sets this unit apart from the others is its array of options that truly allow you to fine tune your settings based on your desired game play. Rather your looking for that fast action refresh rate adjustment for FPS or deep rich colors with a steady frame rate for you mmo people, this monitor is going to allow for both sides of the spectrum. This monitor honestly is going to fit just about everyone's needs regardless of what they are. This may be the last monitor you need for a very long time.

I was in the market for a replacement of my 5 year old 38” widescreen which at the time was great but so much has happened with display technology since. The Omen is a 34” but when i put them side by side I was immediately impressed by how little real estate I was actually giving up. The display is maximized in the frame, with the glass being nearly edge to edge. Usable real estate is slightly less, including a 3/4” chin across the bottom, but it’s not like you have a giant border around your work or gaming fun. Once you turn the Omen on and get it hooked to your hardware is when the fun (and occasional wow) kicks in. The curved display has an impressive refresh rate of 165Hz, which is both much easier on the eyes when working for long periods and super quick for action games. The built in speakers eliminate the need for a separate speaker setup in most scenarios, and the stand is easy to adjust and very stable - something that isn’t always common with large widescreen monitors. The only downside it had for me personally is the lack of a built in USB hub. I prefer a wired keyboard and mouse when gaming and only have so much port real estate on my laptop. Losing this in the transition to the Omen meant having to buy an additional USB hub to get operational; a minor inconvenience but a miss on their part. I haven’t interacted much with the Omen Gaming Hub app but I do know that it offered me a dizzying array of adjustments to help customize the experience between my computer and monitor. All in all I’d call this a MUST buy if you’re in the market for a display of this size and refresh rate is important for your work or fun!

First off, HP nailed it with the packaging, the monitor came double boxed and in a huge floating core. Some basic assembly required, which is to be expected. As well with he base and arm it comes with instructions (seems odd these days with everyone going to digital), display port cable and of course the power cord. Monitor has the VERSA mount so no problems there with mounting to arm or multiple display set up. I am new to the curved world, so it took some time playing around with it to adjust to it’s shape. The monitor seems heavier than most and definitely has a noticeably thicker chassis to it. I am coming from two 31” UHD monitors to this. I do like not having the split frame in the middle anymore, the single monitor has it’s benefits. Was surprised to have speakers built in and they sound decent, will still use my other external speakers or headphones. The quality and visuals are awesome! With the high 165hz refresh rate and QHD display it really brings things to life. My two negatives that I don’t feel take away from the overall rating was the lack thereof of extra USB ports and watching movies on it. Not that they were horrible but the curve killed it for me. Gaming with the curve, muti-tasking and web browsing, YES. Movie watching, not for me.

I bought this monitor to match my omen 27 inch model ive had for a couple years. It has great clairty and the curve rate is perfect fir most things. I use this monitor for FPS games, racing games and other tasks. 34” is about the perfect size for an immersive game session to me and the colors on this monitor look fantastic after tweaking and balancing in the nvidia control pannel!

Couldnt ask for a better monitor. This replaces the 40” 4K TV I bought during the pandemic to work from home. That thing was too big and the corners were too far away so I was constantly moving. This monitor is the perfect size, resolution, refresh rate, and curvature. I’m not a gamer, but I can see how this would be nice for those who are.

This was my first time using an ultrawide monitor. At first I didn’t like it as it was different but, as I started to game more iI got used to it and started to love it. Watching movies is a lot fun but sometimes there is ghosting but after a while ypur eyes adapt to it. If you are looking for a gaming monitor, its one of the best you can pick but remember that the speakers are not the best.
