This prebuilt had what I thought was everything I needed to run games at medium-high settings. The graphics card is more than enough for what I play, but apparently the processor was not. The i5 in this unit is not capable of handling this graphics card, regardless of what the specs say that it can output. I had my unit for about four days and over that time span, it hard froze at least 7 times. The only solution to fix the freeze was to hold down the power button and restart the PC. It’s likely that my system had defective hardware within it, but even without the crashes, the performance while in-game was not what I was expecting given the hardware within it. Luckily I was able to return it for a full refund, so if you’re OK with medium settings on your games, this PC can get it done; anymore than that however, is a bit too much for the lackluster processor to handle.

The rating would have been higher if I had posted a review sooner. I added 2 Corsair 16 GB Sticks of ram which ran slower than 3200MHz. I got on the phone with HP and he walked me through the process of changing the speed in BIOS. HP now has the computer, on their dollar, and and just informed me that they have ordered a new main board and processor for it. Should be in on Jan. 27.

Performance below expected (3.99 ghz vs. 4.4 ghz)

I'm giving this two stars because it arrived unbroken and, at first glance, works pretty well in casual use. But like most people buying gaming systems, I want more than that. Right away, simple benchmark testing showed that my system doesn't perform as expected. The Intel i5-12400F CPU should be able to boost individual cores up to 4.4 ghz, in appropriate conditions, according to Intel's own specifications. Careful testing of my Omen in a wide variety of conditions (office use, web browsing, gaming, benchmarks) has shown that none of the CPU cores ever exceed 3.99 ghz. This results in roughly a 10% performance deficiency relative to Intel's specification. I don't think this is an isolated problem with my unit, as there is no outward sign of a malfunction or system error, no sign of overheating, etc. I suspect this is a configuration problem for all Omens of this model with the 12400F CPU, that only HP can correct through changes to the BIOS or motherboard. I've tried to attach a screenshot showing that none of my cores ever exceed 3.99 ghz, when they should at least occasionally be reaching speeds well over 4 ghz. If anyone else has this system and can run some tests, I'd love hearing your results on CPU single-core benchmarks that would be easy to compare. I'd list some benchmarks and utilities but Best Buy's review guidelines say I'm not supposed to mention other products or websites. Even without benchmarking, you can use free utility software to monitor your CPU core activity and verify if you are (or in my case, not) getting full boost to 4.4 ghz. (And yes, I know the difference between individual maximum core boost and all-core maximum boost.) I wish I knew a way to contact advanced technical support or engineering at HP Omen. This issue is too complex and subtle for first-line basic customer service to handle easily.

Powerful Gaming Desktop with Great Performance

I recently purchased the HP OMEN 40L Gaming Desktop, and it has been a fantastic addition to my gaming setup. Right out of the box, the sleek Nightfall Black design and RGB lighting caught my eye, giving it a premium look that fits well in any gaming space. Performance: The Intel Core i5-12400F processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card handle all the games I play with ease, even on high settings. The 16GB HyperX memory is more than enough for multitasking, and I haven't experienced any lag or stuttering while gaming or streaming. Games load quickly, and the overall system responsiveness is impressive. Storage: With a 1TB SSD, there’s ample space for my games, applications, and other media. Load times are fast, which significantly enhances the overall gaming experience. I no longer have to worry about running out of space or waiting for games to load. Cooling & Noise: The cooling system is quite efficient. Even during extended gaming sessions, the desktop remains cool and doesn't overheat. It's also relatively quiet, which is a bonus when you're focusing on intense gaming moments or streaming. What I Like: The performance-to-price ratio is excellent, especially for a mid-range gaming desktop. The design is sleek and customizable with RGB lighting, making it a stylish addition to my setup. Plenty of ports for all my peripherals and accessories, which makes connecting everything straightforward. What Could Be Better: It would have been nice to have more RAM out of the box, as 16GB is good, but some newer games might benefit from an upgrade in the future. The pre-installed software was a bit unnecessary, but it's easy enough to uninstall what you don't need. Final Thoughts: Overall, the HP OMEN 40L Gaming Desktop is a powerful machine that handles everything I throw at it. It's perfect for gamers looking for solid performance without breaking the bank. I’m very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable gaming desktop.

I’m only writing this review for the potential of winning the $400 reward. I could really use it. With that being said. I purchased this HP Omen 40L with the 3060ti back in 2022. It served me well for the better part of 2 years. It’s never given me any real issues, none that weren’t user error. I’ve done everything I could to, “baby” this PC. I’ve never pushed it too hard, overclocked it, lol always closed out all of my windows, tasks & applications. The biggest game I’ve played on it was, maybe gta 5. I’m playing Assetto Corsa recently, all the sudden I hear a distinct noise come from my pc, my screen freezes. Every key I press does nothing. And so I promptly press and held my power button to turn it off. Waited a few moments. Press the power button again to turn it on. Now all of the sudden I get no screen, and my pc is sounding like an emergency alarm signal from the purge. I have no idea what happened, they were no tell signs. It just. Happened. To my known, upmost respectable knowledge. The pc never overheated, I don’t play with mods (or at least heavy, unsafe mods) all my drivers and windows was up to date. My storage and ram/vram was not full nor peaking in the slightest. I play on medium-medium high graphics and about 100-120fps. I don’t understand what happened. I loved this pc and now it’s just gone.

Although mine came open box, I love this tower! It handles everything I need it to do and then some. I play Elite Dangerous in 4k and stream in 720p and this baby handles it well. That’s not saying that I won’t be looking to upgrade some of the internals eventually, but this is definitely a platform I plan to keep using for many years to come.

I got this as a gift for Graduating College Almost a year later and this is still a great PC! I stream, game, open drawing/editing programs without issues while also having several tabs open. Most of the time the fans are quiet, but I do hear them rev up when I have games, tabs and discord open. It suits my needs. You can customize the lights! The only cons I had was how quickly the space is used up by bloatware and other Windows software. Since I game a lot I have to invest in SSDs. If you have a large game library, you will have to get more storage. Memory/RAM and graphic cards are perfect though. I have no issues. Second con is how freaking huge she is! Shes heavy and doesnt fit well under my desk. If you are limited on space , you may want to make sure you clear out some for it or go for something smaller. This is the best pre-built you can get if you dont want to deal with building your own like I did.

I recently picked up a gaming desktop, and I have to say, it's been a pleasant surprise. The Intel Core i5 processor and NVIDIA GeForce graphics work well together, giving me smooth gameplay in CS2 and Hogwarts Legacy. The 16GB memory handles multitasking seamlessly, and the 1TB SSD ensures decent load times. The Nightfall Black design is sleek enough, and while it's not completely silent, the system operates reasonably quietly, which is a plus. I've had no connectivity issues, and the lighting accents are a nice touch, adding a bit of flair to the setup. Overall, it's a solid choice that delivers a realistic gaming experience without breaking the bank.

I was hesitant because I am a custom PC dude and never worked with HP anything. Boy, was I surprised this machine is fast, reliable, and built to last at least another 3 years. I upgraded the RAM from 16 GB to 32 but other than that this machine was ready to go right out of the box. I am a gamer nad it handled Overwatch, and COD with no issues on high settings

I've been saving for a pretty long while now and was originally going to purchase a pc off of Amazon as a pre build (I've never built one and I have huge hands). I bought the PC for 1.1k when the original price is 1.5k+. I downloaded the pc and installed mortal shell, threw on Ray tracing, max settings and resolution. The pc got a little loud but overall the game looked fantastic. If you're looking for a 'Above average' gaming pc, or have no idea how to build one, and don't want to spend almost 2k, this is the one! HOWEVER, if you plan on streaming while playing games, you may want to purchase some extra ram and install it yourself. The pc itself comes with 18 gigs with two additional slots for ram. Other than that though the 3060 gets a good job done.
