I bought this laptop to use for drafting, 3D rendering, and other graphics tasks as well as some gaming. So far I’m very happy with the purchase. It’s fast, the Kay’s have good feel and actions, and the graphics are excellent. If you don’t manage power consumption (switch to power save mode) the battery drains pretty quickly, otherwise, it’s a great computer for the price.

Me and Nvidia have never gotten along, so this was the best available option. I like it, but am honestly underwhelmed. The screen and the general performance of this laptop are really good. It is smaller, thinner and much lighter than the 15" it replaced, while still having a slightly larger screen. Unfortunately, even though it's very portable, the screen wobbles quite a bit when opening (it sits tight when open, but it just feels susceptible to damage). That's only an opinion. The real problem I'm having is the stupid Omen software. AMD used to have a very user-friendly and compact program for updating drivers and managing graphics. What they have now is a sales platform to get you to buy accessories, plus the 2 useful apps-- lighting controls and fan controls. The fan control is great, and you can make this laptop nice and cool if you put it on your lap, not to mention keeping cpu and gpu temps down. But the software crashes, resetting itself, and I often check it to find out that it doesn't even register my gpu. The few games I've tried have given weird results, also not seeming to find the gpu. I also have noticed a worse wifi performance on this machine. I can't really recommend this, but if you are like me and refuse to give Nvidia any more money, then you're kind of stuck. At least it's pretty good.

Needed a new laptop since my old one was breaking down. Decided to splurge a little (compared to previous laptop purchases) and got a more powerful one that could run games without lagging since I like to game a little. Sometimes the fan runs pretty loud even when I don't have anything pulled up (it went wild on a Zoom call for some reason once), but I haven't really noticed any performance issues. The colors on the display are a little washed out compared to my old laptop, but you can easily adjust the brightness. saturation, and color display of this laptop so it hasn't been a problem past initial adjustment. I like the customizable lights on the keyboard. Not really anything that swayed my purchase, but it's more fun having multiple colors that you can change on a whim rather than the basic white backlight of more simpler laptops. The 1 TB SSD is also real nice. Kept running out of space on my 500GB laptop, haven't even used up half of this storage even after transferring everything over. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied.

The laptop is a beast and looks very good when playing shooters such as cod/fortnite. The only drawback is like many other laptops, it can get very hot and loud. The laptop is useless to game on when not connected to an outlet because FPS drops dramatically in my opinion. But the omen can also be an everyday laptop that is reliable and super fast.

    Highly Capable Dual Work/Gaming Machine

I'm not going to do a deep dive on the FPS stats; other reviewers have done a capable job of defacto benchmarking. It games well and I was able to run max settings happily on almost every game in my library. Across a few lengthy gaming sessions, I had a very favorable experience of the HP Omen, comparing to my slightly older ASUS ROG 17" laptop. My daily work is conducted primarily on a 16" MacBook Pro. From a practical perspective, if you're looking for a discrete gaming laptop, this is one of the best options on the market right now. It's lighter and has a sleeker surface area than many other gaming laptops... however, the laptop itself is still pretty heavy. When you consider you'll also need to pair it with a cooling pad, an extended gaming session on your lap may become uncomfortably toasty and heavy. Physically, the number and location of the ports on the device are generous and well-thought-out. All the heavy-hitting attachments can be grouped on one side, allowing for easy cord management. If you're a streamer you'll enjoy the extra ports to connect your streaming setup as the internal webcam is only 720p. The trackpad is large and generous and the wrist deck is wide and comfortable. The keyboard is spacious with large keys that have a solid feel to them, backlit by colored LEDs in 4 different zones (there's a lighting control that allows you to use preset patterns, animations, and even design your own). It's an odd choice to have placed them in zones instead of individual keys, but I imagine this was a measure designed to reduce weight and reduce the likelihood of required service. The display is bright and clear with vibrant colors and can be positioned in a wide array of angles. As another reviewer noted, the screen feels significantly less sturdy than the rest of the device. I can only assume this was because they were trying to save weight. The display itself is on par with other modern gaming laptops. As you might have guessed, there's no touchscreen or pen support included. The included 1TB SSD is blazing fast and everything in my gaming library loaded accordingly - with haste. The discrete graphics card means the 16GB of system memory isn't a real issue, although I wish they'd have included 32GB just for bragging rights and longevity. The inclusion of wireless AX in addition to a physical networking port is fantastic and helps eliminate lag no matter how you are set up. If your intent is to utilize this laptop as a dual-function work/play device, the screen is reasonable for almost every workplace application you'd want to run. The discrete graphics card performance was impressive; I was very pleased with the gaming performance overall and I didn't run into any issues that took me out of the game (flickering, lag, graphical oddities). The in-computer Bang & Olufsen audio/speakers are just fine; considering most folks will want to headset in, especially with the propensity of fans to kick in right when you don't want them to, they're often an afterthought... but I found they had decent quality and loudness in general play, and more than sufficient if you forgot your headset and/or external speaker setup. Gaming laptops often come with a suite of specialty management software to tweak hardware performance to your needs. HP's OMEN Control Center is one of the better suites I've seen and there's even a physical key to access it. The ability to swap between graphics settings based on needs is useful - and having this degree of control and performance visibility is gratifying. Overall the social/gaming aspects of the HP Omen software seem like an unnecessary inclusion in an age of Discord, Twitch, Steam, and Windows Gaming Center. Battery life when on full-on gaming mode: not spectacular... you'll want to be plugged in; on maxed-out settings, pretending I was plugged in, I lost about 25% per 30 minutes. The recharge cycle seemed to be pretty fast, but still, you'll want to operate plugged in most of the time. When optimizing settings for battery life, there was less of a hit to performance than I expected and the battery did last slightly longer, though it wasn't a total game-changer. Heatwise: the design of this laptop led my (righty) mouse hand to get baked every so often. A slightly wider cooling pad + lap desk combo would prevent that, but... at what point do you opt-out and head back to the desktop? Ultimately, I was thrilled with everything the HP Omen had to offer, it's a great combination of performance and portability. If your intent is to do your work and play on the same machine, this laptop is a really great option for you.

Portable gaming always gets me excited. Gaming on big PC’s and consoles is great but it makes it hard to go mobile. Gaming laptops have not always been able to keep up and give you the same gaming experience. I was excited to test this gaming PC out and see how it compares to others. Design: The design of the laptop is great although there are a few things that I believe could be improved. This laptop is made from mostly plastic, but it feels extremely premium. The 16 in screen is large and makes gaming on the run a lot better. This is on the large screen sizes of laptops, but it does not feel that way. HP has done an amazing job at making this laptop thin and lightweight. I have never seen a laptop with a built in RBG keyboard and I honestly am a huge fan. The ability to change the coloring and pattern is a welcomed feature. They keyboard has great feedback and key travel. It is easy and comfortable to type on. The trackpad is on the larger side which is welcomed. It provides very precise swipes and clicks. This laptop is equipped with a bang and Olufsen sound system and it is great. Not many people use laptop speakers but it sure is nice to have them when you want them. If you are watching a movie or simply just videos on YouTube the speakers provide a loud, projecting, and overall great sound. This computer has been designed with cooling in mind. It has large vents all around it along with on the bottom of the laptop for heat to escape. I was playing call of duty for several hours and to my surprise it was warm but not burning hot like previous gaming laptops I have used. HP has done a great job with the ventilation system to keep the CPU and other component cool under stress. There are a few features I wish this laptop had but overall, they do not take away from the experience. The first is the keyboard is missing is a 10 key number pad. To me in a laptop this large it should have one, but it is not the biggest deal. The next is I wish it had facial recognition or fingerprint reader to make logging in easier. Again, these are not deal breakers, but they would have been nice additions. Ports: As laptops become thinner and more portable many have also lost ports. That is one thing this laptop is not lacking. It has every port you could imagine or need. It includes 3 standard USB ports along with a new generation USB-C port. Two important ports for gaming are an ethernet and HDMI port which are also both included. It even has an SD card reader slot. I love that HP included both new and old ports so that you can use any peripherals you would like and future proof it. Performance: Obviously, anyone buying this laptop is mainly worried about how it performs for gaming. This laptop is outfitted with AMD CPU and dedicated GPU. On paper the GPU is an extremely high-performance CPU and the GPU is decent for gaming. I am more familiar to Intel CPUS and NVIDIA GPUS and the AMD dashboard in my opinion is not as user friendly. At the time of this review I was not able to figure out how to switch between dedicated graphics and built in graphics. When I am running a game, I like to be able to know for sure that I am running off the dedicated graphics card. The main game I play is Call of duty. While playing Warzone I was getting about 90-120 frames per second gameplay. I believe this is above average for a gaming laptop and I was impressed. The 144ghz refresh rate also allows for buttery smooth game play. Overall, I was impressed with how well the graphics and gameplay looked on the beautiful display. HP includes the Omen Gaming HUB which I was impressed with although I did have a few times where it would crash on me and the only fix was restarting the entire laptop. It only crashed after adjusting FAN speeds which was unfortunate. Inside the gaming HUB you can monitor things such as GPU and CPU temperatures. You can adjust fan speeds and you can even customize the RBG keyboard within this HUB. AMD has done a decent job of power consumption allowing for good battery life. Battery life will ultimately depend on what you are doing. Heavy gaming is going to drain the battery a lot faster. However, I do not worry a lot about that since I usually game while plugged in. My bigger concern is how long it last just for normal use. Although it is hard to say right now it will last for at minimum 5-6 hours from normal use which I think is decent for a laptop primarily made for gaming. Upgradability: This is one of my biggest issues with this laptop. Most people who game want to be able to upgrade their computer because technology advances so fast that in order to keep up with the latest games being able to upgrade your computer is important. Right out of the box I opened the laptop to see how easily the components could be upgraded. There are about 8 screws on the bottom which were easy to remove. However, getting the bottom plate off was not easy at all. After finally getting the bottom off I was a little disappointed that there was no slot for a 2.5in SSD/HD slot. On the bright side there were 2 M.2 SSD slots and the ram is also easily upgradable. I immediately put in an additional M.2 SSD to store games and other things on. After getting the bottom removed installation was extremely easy. The hardware that comes in this laptop is great off the shelf. The 1TB drive is a decent amount of storage to store many games along with any other programs. The drive itself in my tests was running at 2000+ mbps. I wish the Ram was 32 gb but it can be easily replaced. The take a way is that the RAM and SSD that are in it are plenty for most people to get started and can upgrade in the future. Conclusion: I think HP and AMD have made a great affordable machine with plenty of power. Right out of the box this laptop comes with great specs and hardware. It can handle any game that I tried playing on it. My favorite thing is how great the build quality is and how portable it is. I think this is a great laptop to get into PC gaming especially for someone that does not want to custom build a PC and would rather buy it ready to go. This laptop is also capable of handling many other things such as everyday work or photo/video editing. For a gaming laptop the battery life is decent but for a laptop it is not great which is expected. If you are not going to do gaming, it might be a little overkill but either way it is an amazing machine.

This gaming laptop offers truly amazing performance and an all around solid experience for gaming and 3D graphics. Screen: The screen/display is thin, and offers a small enough bezel that for me I don't mind it as it keeps the display off the keyboard just enough but yet it has thin edges around the outside edges of the display to handle when opening/closing the lid. The refresh rate is highly noticeable when you are gaming with high framerate games like FPS games and games where there's full motion you'll notice substantially less tearing and blur in fast movement. This display is bright and vivid and doesn't seem to impact battery life when on normal viewing settings as much as other laptops I have. CPU/Graphics/Memory/Storage: This AMD CPU is fast and offers the performance of what some desktop computers do with 8 cores and 8 virtual cores for 16 total cores which is more than enough power with good enough clock speed to rival some desktop PCs. The memory HP selected is surprisingly good and fast, and with 16 GB it offers stellar performance in gaming with the CPU/GPU combo that this machine is built with. The 1TB of storage is more than enough space to satisfy the storage needs of a decent selection of games and is blazing fast with the NVME connection to the drive. Games load in significantly less time and I can't wait to see how well this machine performs with the newer version of Windows. because this laptop has USB Type C with 10GBPS connection you can even load games on to an external NVME drive for decent performance. I do wish that HP would have built this unit with the 20gbps Type C port and at least one more type C port but this build will meet or exceed the needs of most users. WIFI: When you pair this laptop up with the latest WIFI 6 routers you'll get the fastest speeds you can transfer data over WIFI and it's blazing fast. In my testing, there's a noticeable difference when transferring files over my gigabit network with pretty much the same performance as you'd get over a wire which is amazing. Gaming Performance: This laptop supports the latest titles and offers the best performance out of all of the laptops I have and consequently runs quieter and cooler! The way HP designed the cooling, it's clear that they intended this machine to breathe with ease and stay quiet by staying cool because it's well ventilated and when you do hear the fans they aren't that bad. I have spent time with some of the latest games which are generally demanding in terms of graphics and was able to play many of them on high or very high settings with little lag. CSG, World of Warcraft, Death Stranding and Star Wars Fallen Order. The keyboard and trackpad are decent and overall good. The keys for my taste didn't seem too mushy and felt good to type on. The RGB lighting is bright and easily customized to suit your tastes but I'm not sure why HP didn't make all of the keys customizable for color on this model yet other models do offer this which makes me wish HP would simplify product lines for gamers to offer good performance, easy customization so you can just get to gaming without worrying about small details like that that in reality are not a big deal to some people but are to others. The only thing I have encountered so far that I'm not overly impressed with is HP's Omen Gaming Software for controlling the RGB keyboard and computer performance settings.. it seemed far too integrated with the gaming suite for my taste and makes it difficult to simply switch performance modes or switch color lighting modes because you have to navigate multiple screens through their app to do so. It just seems clunky when you want to do something quick before you jump into a game. In addition the app crashed several times when changing performance modes but then resolved after reboot. I think that HP could streamline the app to focus on the user experience based on how people will use it most. Last thing I wanted was yet another game launcher when there are so many that do this like Origin, Steam and others.. yet not one of them does it all that well. Hoping Windows 11 changes all that and would be awesome to see HP adapt to that to make the experience smoother! Overall, I would definitely recommend this laptop! It's performance is the best I have experienced from a laptop for some time.

I’ll start with the looks of this gaming laptop. It is well built and solid. The keyboard gives a very cool look as it has multiple colors to light up the room. The Bang and Olufsen sound is also very good, especially for a portable device. The size is large enough for a great gaming experience, yet small enough to use for business and personal use. Graphics on this laptop are outstanding and the Radeon card handles some very demanding games very well. This coupled with a fast SSD drive and plenty of RAM makes this an ideal gaming laptop. I challenged it with a very intense and demanding game and it handled it well above my expectations. There was some lag sporadically, but it could have been due to internet/WiFi latency as well. I played “No Man’s Sky” and it handled transitions very well. It provided quick load times and the video was very smooth throughout the game. The keyboard is also very responsive, quiet and doesn’t require a long press to engage the keys. The touchpad is good, but for gaming, I highly recommend an external mouse. For everyday use, the touchpad is good. The laptop is quiet, even when the cooling kicks on. It stays nice and cool during gameplay. I appreciate the cooling system built into this device. I played for several hours straight and it did not get hot. Beyond games, this laptop is extremely fast in general with very fast boot ups, mousepad response and keyboard response. Applications load fast and the display renders in no time. This is a winner for both gaming and everyday use.
