The laptop will not turn back on if it goes to sleep. The screen lights up black, but that’s it. If I close a game, when it switches from gpu to APU, it goes to sleep by itself and won’t wake up. I’ve updated everything and tried every bandaid solution. Nothing works. I got this laptop for $750. Don’t waste $1000 or more buying it. I’m hoping to contact support from Hp to work something out because my return window is gone. It hurts having a laptop do this to you when you can’t afford another one. Only solution is to force shut down the laptop, but how is that gonna affect the longevity of the machine?

Really good performance for games and streamjng to tv, but if your planning to be on this more than 2 hours and away from a wall outlet this might not be for you, I found that even playing a minimalistic game like oxygen not included and enter the gungeon it was still proving no more than 2 1/2 hours playtime

I was looking for an entry level gaming pc that could do it all. Steam, SteamVR, Oculus, Microsoft Flight sim, Squadrons. The Omen's performance overall was pretty solid. However, let me just say it is LOUD, clunky and heavy. If you want something for VR DO NOT BUY THIS. the RX6 series does not have a video encoder and therefore can not push video out to vr devices. If you plan on using a monitor, I recommend going with something else because of the size of the laptop. If you plan on using it for gaming as a standalone, the screen is plenty big. Solid build quality I'd say.

This definitely isn’t a perfect laptop but from what I can tell it definitely is a workhorse and haven’t really ran into any issues from first look I cannot complain. The first one I got was defective but I can tell you it’s not a big deal I got another one ezpz.

I got the HP Omen 16.1" gaming laptop to review. This one is specced with an AMD Ryzen 7 6800 processor, AMD Radeon RX 6650M graphics card, 1TB solid state drive, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 1080p blistering 144Hz display. This version is AMD all the way! The chassis is finished in Mica Silver which really looks more like a grey. Still, a pleasing, if muted color which makes the RGB keyboard pop when LEDs are flowing. Port-wise, things are pretty standard. Two USB-C, two USB-A, SD card, headphone, HDMI, and slightly unstandard - an RJ45 (ethernet) port. This is nice as going wired is best (yes, I know, a laptop. . .) and while I've accumulated a couple USB-C ethernet dongles, it's always nice when I don't need to remember to carry them around. One thing that's interesting is that the HDMI and USB-C ports are on the middle of the back side of the laptop. This suggests a more split cooling system for CPU and graphics but at the same time could be good as side vent space isn't being compromised. It is decently hefty between 5 and 6lbs but that's to be expected for a gaming laptop. The Omen comes preloaded with Windows 11. While I'd personally preferred sticking to Windows 10, I understand the reasons. 11 is the latest and greatest and there's probably just as many who'd complain if it shipped with 10 anyway. There was nothing special about the setup - just routine Windows stuff. After that I loaded up YouTube to do a quick test of the audio and screen quality. 16 inches is starting to get to the size on a laptop screen where one may want more pixels than 1080p, but I think it looked good. The screen was decently bright. No strange artefacts or issues streaming HD video. Things looked smooth but honestly I didn't really see any benefit of the 144Hz refresh rate until I loaded up Hitman 3. The audio was good. Nothing to complain about - better than the often tinny sound one gets with laptop speakers, certainly serviceable. But not great speakers. My pro earbuds do as good if not a better job especially once you start getting immersed in a game or movie. So, plan on sticking to your wired/wireless headset with this one. One feature that's annoyingly off the list is a fingerprint reader. Yes, I know it's more a business laptop feature but it makes many things easier. Gaming laptop or not, security is important and while there was a time that one's gaming rig was pretty much a gaming dedicated device, these are not those days - at least for me. Playing Hitman 3 was fun. While the trackpad felt ok, I pretty much stuck to my trusty bluetooth mouse. I find I'm only ever using the trackpad when traveling or if using the laptop away from a desk which surprisingly is becoming rarer. The laptop help up pretty well rendering the game. There's definitely framerate drop with the texture and level of detail on high or ultra. High was still eminently playable. The keyboard feel was good if not a bit better than a lot of other laptops I've used recently. Decently tactile, a bit fuller sized than I'm used to on a laptop but that's a good thing as the transition from a dedicated keyboard to the laptop is minimal. In fact, I sometimes reached for the non-existent number pad - that's how "normal" it felt to me. If there was someplace this laptop shone, it's in keeping cool while pumping out pretty decent gaming performance. I think HP hit the sweet spot in terms of design and tradeoff between size, weight, power, and cooling. And if this were the days where laptops truly were lap devices, that would have been the better choice. Now, I'd have preferred packing in more pixel density or a fingerprint reader + display port (in addition to the existing ports). Oh, and more battery life. I've tended to struggle hitting battery life claims and this was no exception. A solid 4+ hours just surfing, reading, etc but gaming or anything intensive that spins up the fans, you should really not expect more than 2.5 hours of battery. I suppose one could turn down power plan performance settings but in that case, why have a gaming laptop at all?

I really enjoy the laptop. The battery does not last very long though and if you are not plugged in, the games "lag" a bit. I did not want to spend a lot so I am pleased with the value.

Well, I loved the model before this. Worked flawlessly for a few years until it bit it. This one? Not even a month before it started having issues. I have to reformat/restore it almost every month with normal use. And to top it off, they sent me a refurbished one instead of a new one like I paid for. Thanks, Best Buy.
