Great gaming laptop so far. I have been able to run just about every single game at ultra or high at 1080p the screen is nice for a laptop it gets pretty dark and the microphone is surprisingly good if you don’t want to have your headphones on all the time. The hp software came he kind of annoying but is easy to take off.

Got this laptop in discount for around $750, pretty solid I must say, definitively an upgrade from my Series X, runs Halo Infinite (which is known for be very gpu demanding) at a solid resolution and above 120hz, would definitely recommend it at a discount price

Great gaming laptop and excellent software to game online. It doesn't have touch screen or a disk drive but for what it's made it's better off it doesn't burden CPU. The refresh rate is excellent and with 16 gigs of RAM is able to handle all top tier games available right now. It is pushed if you're playing huge games like Battlefield or open world games. Competitively though handles great and has a lot of support from Windows games (Xbox pass, live, Ubisoft, EA, etc.)
The Omen gaming hub software is also greatly designed. Gives you such features as optimizing performance light studio for the keyboard and device control and pairing of extra accessories. Plus it comes with the HP support. A definite buy if you don't care for some fancy features and into a focused to PC gaming venue. Great buy!

This is an all AMD setup so no intel or Nvidia parts in this laptop.
The 6800H processor rips through all my task I threw at it. Thisnis a few a step down from the 6900h but you will not miss it. The battery life is a bit weaker while.on battery aline from my other AMD laptop. About 1 hour less in total usage but still way about any Intel basee laptop i have owned. AMD some how seems to get the best performance out if these laptop processors. Just for clarification i run performance mode with discreet gpu enabled all the time.
Games and multitasking is no sweat. DDR5 RAM with gen 4 nvme harddrive installed. With another bank to expand another nvme gen 4 ssd in.
I tried to source upgrades for this laptop and the cost to move to 32 gb and 2 tb gen 4 nvme ssd was pretty high. I like the wifi 6 card made downloading my games pretty darn fast. I was ip and playing in less than 15 mins while i was also watching youtube in the laptop. My reason for adding another drive is for storage of games and why not use the fastest of what the device is capable of using.
The games i played are racing games which had zero issue keeping frames in the 80s with all maxed out on battery. Asphalt 9 and forza horizon 6.
The cons are the screen is not as bright as othe lr panels on the market but once you get to 80 % screen brightness is really comes alive. I have dont kniw why it increases so drastically at that point but it sure did make a difference.
I would highly recommend this hp omen 16.1

My Wish Granted!

I cried tears of joy and appreciation before writing this review. Where do I begin? I had a 4gb ram HP laptop that I still love, but the Shotcut app was unable to clearly playback previews without stuttering and crashing. I found out that this was happening due to the low value of ram on my old laptop.
As a content creator, video editing software is essential and I knew I had to acquire a more powerful laptop. I thought I needed at least a 64gb ram laptop in order to run Shotcut without any hiccups, but I now know that this was/is untrue. In my ignorance, I asked spirit and the universe to help me obtain a 64gb ram laptop somehow.
A few weeks later, I received an email from BestBuy about a Black Friday sale in July. I had never heard of such a thing, as I am still new to BestBuy! They had powerful laptops for sale during this time! I browsed around briefly, and that's when I saw it! HP OMEN 16, but it didn't have 64gb of ram. I still wasn't sure if it would be able to run Shotcut efficiently. I only had experience with low-end laptops.
After a few moments of unnecessary nervousness and doubt, my intuition kicked in to full gear, and I took action and made the purchase! This was the first big-ticket item that I had ever purchased in my life, as of yet! I was so nervous, but Spirit kept telling me, that this laptop was "the one".
Amazingly, my new HP OMEN 16 arrived to me the very next day! How's that for speed? I opened the beautiful huge box, and there she sat! My beautiful new laptop! I charged it fully, and powered it on. The speed.... It's truly amazing!! I am so impressed! Then came the real test. I installed Shotcut and hoped for the best. I imported a video clip into Shotcut that I knew my old laptop couldn't handle. I pressed play to preview the clip and guess what? My HP Omen 16 gave me a clear, concise, stutter-free, lag-free, and crash-free preview playback in Shotcut!!!
I had done it! I had finally found a laptop capable of running Shotcut properly and smoothly! Furthermore, I didn't even need a 64gb ram laptop to do it!! This is even more proof for me to trust the universe! It seems like it always knows what's best! It somehow knew that I didn't need a 64gb ram laptop to achieve my goal, and it led me to that beautiful "Black Friday in July" email from BestBuy. This is why I became emotional before writing this review. I am just so happy, appreciative, and all of this happened so suddenly and unexpectedly! I recognize that my desires are heard and responded to in some of the most mysterious ways!
I am so glad I listened to my intuition and purchased this laptop when I did!! It was almost half the price as the standard retail tag! Such a gorgeous and compassionate money-saving bargain for a frugal being like myself! I love my new laptop so much, words just cannot fully explain my joy and gratitude!
My keyboard has a custom backlighting feature, it functions at the speed of light, the massive storage space is very generous indeed, the screen is large, I love the feel and sound of the keys as I type, I love that some ports are located in the back where they should be, the black mirror-looking diamond logo in the back, I freaking love my new laptop!!! It's just so dark and sexy, and the name Omen is quite fitting! I love everything about it!!
Another thing that I love about my new HP Omen 16 laptop is it's ability to be inconspicuous. It does not look like a gaming laptop. It looks more like a business laptop in my opinion. I love the secrecy of disguise incorporated into this genuine work of precious mechanical art! I am intensely and infinitely satisfied with everything about this laptop!!
The only thing I regret is that I didn't buy two. I should have purchased two HP Omen 16s during that sale! I made all my money back that I invested in this laptop two weeks later. I could have bought two with no issue! Dang! Well here we go again. "Dear Universe..."
Thank you so much BestBuy for sending me that email and for everything! You all have helped me so much in achieving my goals whilst saving money simultaneously! The name of your business is beyond appropriate, because you truly have "Buys that are the Best"! I love you all!
My apologies for such a lengthy review, I just wanted to share my full story of what led me to this miraculous purchase! Thanks for reading!! Cheers and infinite love to all!

This laptop is “Out of this word”. No, seriously! According to the userbenchmark program I like to use to objectively gauge and compare my computers, this one ranked as a “UFO” overall which is top tier! For gaming specifically it ranked as an “Aircraft Carrier” which is a couple steps down from the top, but still very impressive for a laptop gaming setup.
But what does that mean in practice? In practice it means I could play games at the highest possible detail and they were still butter smooth. I’m a big fan of the Batman games on Steam, for example, and my previous gaming rig (now ranked as a “sail boat”) often stuttered and stammered loading and then played the game itself OK albeit at moderate/low settings. Clearly due for an upgrade, this laptop replaced that venerable laptop and it is literally a whole new gaming world.
Standouts are the very visually stable 144Hz high-refresh rate display, Ryzen 7 6800H CPU, and of course the RX 6650M GPU. These components played together very nicely and routinely delivered 120FPS or better. Seriously, there wasn’t a game I threw at this, from Sports to FPS, that stuttered even a little.
The Samsung MZVL21T0HCLR was no slouch either, delivering crushing speeds of over 2200 MB/s in sequential read/write ops, and a more realistic but still top-of-class 104 MB/s doing random ops.
The dual Samsung M425R1GB4BB0 8GB memory sticks delivered over 43GB/s throughput.
The design of the laptop is new, to me at least – the fans are on the bottom opposite corners with vents under and on both sides of the corner which seems to make for some pretty aggressive air movement. In function this is fantastic and you can really feel the air moving as the laptop ramps up to deliver its stunning performance. The one downside of all this air movement though is that the fans produce a high-pitched whistle when under load. This doesn’t bother me so much because I usually game with a headset on and I’m simply immersed in the game, but my family and others around me definitely noticed anytime I gamed in the living/family room and kept asking me if I could “make it stop.” However, I don’t always wear headphones and, yes, the whistle is real. It’s not fair to call it loud though, I actually consider the fans relatively quiet for as much air as they move when needed, but the whistle is high pitched and fairly piercing. No way is this a showstopper, the machine functions exactly as it should, just be aware that the fans might be bothersome to those who are sensitive to steady high pitched whirring.
A plus, to me at least, of this corner fan/vent arrangement is that it frees up some space on the back of the laptop for the HDMI, 2x USB-C ports, and (most notably) the power socket. I immediately liked having these common ports back because it keeps the laptop looking a little slimmer and cleaner on my desk or lap by not having cables always sticking out of the sides.
The RGB zoned keyboard is pleasant both to type on and look at. Using either the basic or advanced lighting setup in the Omen app you can easily set either a static lighting (my preference for zoned keyboards like this) or you can use the advanced Light Studio to setup dynamic zone coloring and animations if that’s more to your liking – in this venue I liked the “breathing’ setup.
At the end of the day this is truly an impressive laptop gaming rig, I could hardly be happier and it puts a grin on my face each time I fire it up. I wish the fans didn’t “whistle” almost all the time but that’s a pretty minor against an otherwise fantastic laptop, I think I can get used to it.

I really like my new HP Omen gaming laptop. While it isn't quite a top-of-the-line gaming laptop, for my needs it performs spectacularly.
I would consider myself a casual gamer and this machine is perfect for me. Its design is sleek and understated, with a nice matte charcoal black finish -- which HP calls mica silver. The keyboard is backlit with LED lighting, which can be customized via the Omen Hub. The 1TB SSD is great, allowing me to keep a decent number of games on the laptop itself so I don't have to carry an external hard drive around with me.
For the purposes of this review, I chose to play Red Dead Redemption 2. It looks amazing! If I'm not mistaken, the Ryzen 7 6800 is kind of an upper-tier processor, though not quite as good as its main competitor. It doesn't seem to have a problem with the game at all. I tested out various quality settings and consistently averaged over 60 fps. With every setting at its highest, the average frame rate drops to just under 50, but the game still runs great and looks beautiful.
The fans do run a little loud when you get into some action. Wearing headphones though, it's barely noticeable. I can't say my wife would agree when I play in bed, though she hasn't said anything yet. The laptop does get pretty warm, too. Too warm to comfortably play games on your lap without a tray under the machine. A solid surface will allow for better airflow anyway, to keep the computer cooler. Both of these things are to be expected with any laptop running large programs, especially top-tier video games.
My only issues with the laptop aren't really the laptop's fault, but Microsoft's. It's the pre-installed subscription programs that annoy me. There's always a pop-up about your free trial running out for anti-virus software or a music streaming service that gets in the way. Luckily, these programs are easy enough to uninstall.
Pros:
- quality looking design - clean lines, sophisticated color, even the power brick looks good
- powerful enough for demanding software
- quiet... ish - it won't wake the house/almost imperceptible with headphones on
- 1 TB hard drive
Cons:
- ... it gets uncomfortably warm for sitting directly on your lap?
- it could have more RAM? Though 16 GB is pretty good...
I am struggling for cons. I really love this computer!

Seems like everyone wants to make a gaming laptop nowadays. Omen was a niche legendary name amongst gaming PCs back in the day, and then they were bought by HP.
The first thing that stands out are the clean lines. No extraneous giant alien heads lighting up the cover *ahem* nor eye-burning LED lights flashing on the outside. Nice, matte feel, with a, dare I say, classy, logo on the bottom right of the casing.
The speakers are grouped at the top of the keyboard case, and a bang & Olufsen logo sits on the bottom left of the palm rest area. Aesthetics are highly subjective, but I’m a big fan of industrial looks. Also, I’m able to take this laptop to work without it sticking out like a sore thumb. Ports are all located in the back, without any USB ports along the sides. Again, keeps everything looking clean even when you have devices plugged in.
Feel: the keys have a nice smooth travel, and don’t stick at all. No clicky noises like on cherry Mx, but that’s not a bad thing in this case. The keys do however, to me, feel like they’re just slightly too small. I found myself making some typing errors while trying to draft documents for the first few days. Not cramped like a mini keyboard, but also not a 100% 1-1 transfer like on a thinkpad.
Performance: this is where this laptop shines. On cinemark, the 8 core Ryzen was hitting 12600+, which put it only under the AMD threadripper CPUs. Graphically, I was getting no stuttering on high settings on Witcher 3 and cyberpunk. Yes cyberpunk is old, but the new update had me curious and I went back in to check it out.
That being said, one knock on this unit is that the fans get pretty loud under load. If just browsing or watching Netflix, it was fine. But any time I tried to play any games that were remotely graphics heavy, the fans kicked into high gear. Kind of an expected trade off, t get this level of performance in a laptop form factor.

HP OMEN 16 Gaming Laptop works very well for gaming. I previously was on gaming on another set up with similar specs and the difference in graphics is almost not noticeable. I ran several hours of PUBG (Player Unknowns Battlegrounds) on max setting with no issues. The battery with maximum screen brightness was around 5 hours before I had to charge it again. I ran Halo Infinite on max setting and 60 FPS looked great considering it is just a laptop screen. The Bang & Olufsen was amazing and clear and immersed in the action. Majority of the time I used a headset.
As for clock speeds playing FIRE STRIKE, MS Office Apps (Excel, Word, Note), streaming Tokyo Vice refer to attachments for benchmark tests.
A great feature of this gaming laptop is the cooling fans the laptops does remain cool however my only gripe about this rig is that it gets LOUD, but other than that I would recommend this laptop if you looking for a high performance portable set up.
Overall, this is a very well made laptop did not feel like they used any cheap plastic. The keyboard was very comfortable and the keys very responsive. I highly recommend for gamers looking for a portable gaming laptop. The display is very sharp and crisp. Rated 4 stars because of the fan noise and the weight.

Overall this is a solid PC. I have been a fan of the HP Omen Series for a few years now since getting one of their Pre-Built desktops for home gaming because I just didn't have the time to build one and for my time wasn't worth the savings.
These laptops will run just about everything with good to great performance. The system does get a bit loud when running more graphics intensive games or apps. You can manage the cooling via the included app to be automatic or lock it in at a lower speed or higher speed if you want to maximize the cooling. The included AMD app and HP app are nice for tweaking and customizing this along with other features. The colors can be modified and changed, you can synch with other components as well to get the full color LED effect.
I ran mulitple games on it and it handled Forza Horizon 5 without issue along with Fortnite which is why my daughter plays the most. She also likes to play other games from the XBOX game pass like Among Us and Fall Flat which this laptop had no issues playing and running smoothly.
Overall it is a solid gaming laptop though not a lot of upgrade options but that is sort of to be expected with laptops.

Laptop came nicely packaged which is a good start.
The boit up is very fast and once I did the initial setup, which only took a few minutes, I was ready to test this baby out.
I normally go all out with testing on my gaming rigs but my PC is my main machine while this laptop will be my travel system.
First off the laptop is very quiet. I also have another laptop (an ASUS) and its pretty loud compared to this one.
I'm not going to go into the smaller details which are easily seen through the product description (like RBG keyboard etc) and instead just give the thoughts after seeing ut jn action on a few games.
Playing Mafia 2 Definitive Edition and Anno 1800 were both smooth sailing. No visible hiccups or stuttering even as my town in Anno became pretty large.
The systems fans did kick on after starting each game telling me its doing what it should do.. but they were not overly loud.
I do recommend with any gaming laptop to have it on a cooling station. Just my preference.
Hopefully the experience continues to impress. :)
The overall performance was very nice and with the cost of parts these days I think this is a nice package for those looking for a gaming machine.

This computer is a huge step up from the one my daughter previously had. I got her this one, while on sale for $799, and it was immediately a lot better than her other computer. This one was actually made for gaming. But, this laptop, after having it since July of 2023, has overheated a lot, can have a little bit of lag with the video and while playing games, and the battery life is not very good. While playing any sort of game, even roblox, the computer will only last up to an hour or less(30-60minutes) on 60 battery, going to 40, which is when she has low battery mode turn on. Additionally, the fans can get very loud, especially when they are turned to max. Even when not on max, they can get very loud, which can be heard a lot throughout my apartment. The graphics are great, and the speed is very decent. Overall, the only cons are the overheating, the fan noises, and the battery life. Still a great average gaming computer.

The first question that we are all here to answer is if the unit is good and worth purchasing. The undeniable answer is a resounding YES. I am not a computer expert, nor do I understand how a bunch of binary ones and zeros make colors or shapes on my screen. But what I can tell you is that I like things that perform at their peak with minimal input by me the user. The HP OMEN 16.1” Gaming Laptop with an AMD Ryzen 7 6800 – 16GB Memory and an AMD Radeon RX 660M – 1TB SSD performs as well as my higher-end desktop computer right out of the box. No matter what I threw at the AMD it just took it like a champion. Prior to this unit, I had an AMD processor in a personal laptop in 2009 but I have only had intel since. Seriously, that probably changes after my experiences with this AMD Ryzen.
Out of the box, the unit looks spectacular but is made out of mostly plastics. The device has several built-in vents along the side. They were able to reclaim this space because of a fantastic piece of innovation. OMEN designers moved several of the ports to the back side edge of the device. After seeing it, I was like, wow I wish they were all back there. This allows my laptop to sit on my desk without a spiderweb of cable streaming out from it, in plain view of the world. Also, I have poor cable management skills, so this helps. The screen is bright and vibrant no matter whether you are playing visually stunning video games or streaming drone videos from the internet. Everything is rendered magnificently. The OMEN gaming hub offers some cool tweaking abilities. You have can customize the RGB effects on the backlit keyboard, choose from one-thousand free backgrounds, or you can work on the optimization and performance output. The sound is fantastic but like most laptops does not get super loud. I would suggest some peripheral speakers, a plug in headset, or a compatible Bluetooth connected device. The battery life is crazy for a unit that has a sixteen inch screen. If I dim the brightness and do not run the graphics processor, I can go all day on a single charge. This will be an excellent travel companion for gaming, working, and media on those long business trips.
I benchmarked the laptop and was a bit surprised that it did not perform at the top end, but it did end up in the middle consecutively. I understand that there is always something better to purchase. I just cannot stress how strongly this one runs. The lower of the two-benchmark testing was while running COD Warzone, streaming YouTube, live streaming on Twitch, and running the Superposition Benchmark. The second and higher test was only with the Superposition Benchmark running. I have three other computers that are high-end PCs all with top tier equipment internally and again this unit can hang with all of them. The 144HZ screen is complemented well by the Radeon series RX 6650M. Somehow the AMD Ryzen and AMD Radeon are able to pull more juice out of the VRAM in games like COD Warzone than one or two of my other PCs without sounding like a jet airplane taking off as they do.
I have given this PC five stars but that is purely because the style and performance earned those by themselves and would give more for other aspects say for two. The unit is heavy, but I plan to carry it as I would any laptop. It also gets hotter than any of my other laptops underneath after prolonged use.
My overall impression is that I am honestly amazed at how well this thing performs and will say it a hundred more times. The screen, the battery life, the backlit keyboard, the processor, and the graphics card came dressed to impress. This is a high-end custom built PC wrapped in a middle of the road to entry level priced shell.

Love this laptop. Grabbed one up at the end of their production run. Mine is new. It is lightweight but powerful. 16 inch screen is great for gaming on the go. The screen has a lot of detail. The sound is crystal clear. Bang & Olufsen, enough said.
You won't get much battery life once unplugged. But seriously who games with their laptop unplugged.
All the usuals. Windows 11 runs fine.
Keyboard is really comfortable and feels solid.
On board speakers are about in line for a laptop. The clarity and full range sound kick in nice with external speakers or headphones.
Gaming is super sweet.
