HP Continues to Improve, but is not yet perfect

This new updated HP Omen boots up lightning quick and the screen looks spectacular thanks to the higher refresh rate, but I have been disappointed to find that the graphics card is still not powerful enough to play new games at their recommended settings. Thankfully the refresh rate goes a long way and continues to impress even when game settings are reduced.
There is still no fingerprint scanner (which remains my preferred method for quickly logging in and quickly changing profiles) - and although the Omen has a built in camera, Windows continues to say that it is not able to be used for logging-in with facial recognition. This new version of the HP Omen still does not have a built in slider to cover the webcam - so users who are concerned with higher levels of privacy will still need to find their own way to cover the camera.
The keys are all perfectly flat, but the keyboard is comfortable to use and features zoned LED customization. The OMEN does not have a 10-key which is a bit of a disappointment. I do quite like the oversized trackpad and I appreciate the full sized direction keys. I also love that I am able to open the lid/screen of the laptop without holding down the base of the laptop.
The power brick is a bit of a beast, but the temperature manages to stay on the cooler side - especially compared with the older versions of the HP Omen which would get surprisingly hot. I also feel that there has been an improvement with the noise produced by the fans. The bottom of the laptop is designed to provide plenty of ventilation and while the fans do start up rather quickly into gaming, the noise is not excessive and I no longer receive complaints from other gamers over being able to hear fan noise.
Despite the few criticisms listed above, I believe that the HP Omen offers good over-all value, strong build quality, and is an improvement over previous versions. The day to day operation is lightning quick, but I still suggest looking for the absolute newest processor and graphics card that your budget will allow. I have already found myself lowering game specs to ensure that games run smoothly, so I am not confident that I will be able to play top end games for years to come. For the average student, business professional, or basic gamer - the HP Omen is a good choice for the money. But, if you are focused only on hardcore gaming, you may need to consider a desktop, or be willing to spend even more to get the most current processor for more impressive graphical performance.

I bought this laptop in open box condition. Packaging was excellent, it felt like a brand new product. Unfortunately it came with overheating issues (CPU and GPU reached 100 °C under stress and reboots itself). I tried updating drivers, removing drivers, reinstalling Windows and anything didn't work, so I had to return it. I believe it was a factory problem.
I tried God of War at ultra settings and I got ~50 fps (70-100 with AMD FidelityFX settings), Halo Infinite at at very high settings +60 fps.
Screen is good, very nice colors, but I felt 300 nits wasn't enough. Keyboard is nice. Sound quality is good.
It's a great laptop for the price, you get a new Ryzen 6000 series processor, DRR5 ram and a 8 gb VRAM GPU.
Pros:
-Great speed/value (when on sale) for gaming
-Nice looking design
Cons:
-Fans are like a jet engine
-Screen is not so bright

The HP Omen 16.1" gaming laptop is a compact powerhouse. The 16" 1920x1080 144hz screen, AMD Ryzen 7 6800 and the Radeon RX 6650M is an excellent combination for this laptop. I have not had to undervolt it because it does not thermal throttle while gaming. I believe this has partly to do with the excellent cooling system on the bottom of this laptop. The inlet vents for the fan are large and setup in such a way that they can not be easily blocked. The fans can get loud while gaming, but when I have my headphones on, I do not hear them. The HP Omen 16.1" easily plays everything I have tried. Since you are locked into 1920x1080 resolution, every game that I have tried plays at High/Ultra settings with ease. Speaking of the screen, the brightness, color, and black levels are all very good in my opinion. I've tried quite a few gaming laptops this past year, and this one has an excellent screen. The RGB backlit keyboard feels good, and has very good keypresses. You can customize the lighting using HP's Gaming Hub software. Another thing to note too is that the laptop speakers actually sound pretty good. In most situations you probably wont be using them, but they are there just in case. I can't comment really on battery life because, this is a gaming laptop, used for gaming. Any real gamer would never try to game on just the battery. The only thing I don't like about this laptop is all the bloatware that it comes with. Luckily, Windows 11 makes it easy to uninstall just about any software you don't want/need. If your looking for a portable powerhouse for gaming, look no further.

The Omen by HP, a gaming laptop in their line of computers is pretty great! I just returned from a trip to South America and I took the Omen with me. It persevered through my trip and gave me access any other laptop would. On top of that I was able to stream my favorite game Fortnite on the other side of the world with little fuss.
I was also working so I used this to manage photos, DropBox files, and the one component I didn't think I had use for came in handy. The SD card slot was all I used at my event which was produced for television. I needed to be able to have access to media like photos and videos on the fly. I was amazed that the Omen came ready with my SD card reader.
Some of the best features are also in the design from the colorful back lit keyboard that I can tailor to how I like it, the layout of the keys, the battery life is pretty good, and of course the Omen gaming Hub. The fans kick in pretty good when in gaming mode to keep the computer cool so that I don't compromise any of my streaming. Oh, and my favorite feature is that the charging port is behind the laptop and not on the side. So many laptop designers put the charging port in the side so when it sits in my lap like it is right now when I type the charger's wire bothers me. On the Omen the port won't bother you because it is behind the laptop and not on the sides.
For me a drawback was not having the 10 keys featured in the design but it wasn't a fully terrible letdown and how hefty the charging cable and wires can be. Otherwise, I'd say this is a 9 out of 10 for me because of the amazing graphics, the ability to withstand travel, its quick charge, and the ability to use it work work and play!

I picked this laptop on sale ($880 with tax, 50% off MRP!) back in June 2023 and all I can say is WOW! This machine is a beast of a laptop. Fort starters its fast, I mean really fast Boots up in seconds and opens apps equally as fast. I've been using this laptop for two months now and can honestly say it's blown me away with how good it runs. I've played all sorts of AAA games and each one has ran flawlessly maxed out. I will state the fans when on max are noisy but that's kind of to be expected. The screen is bright, colorful and crisp and has good viewing angles. Let me put it this way, if you want to buy a really good gaming laptop you won't go wrong with this one. Worth every penny and I'll still be using this 3 - 4 years from now.

Great laptop! Super fast and reliable. Graphics are awesome as well. Only downside is the battery drains quickly on games. For example, played Farming Simulator 22 for an hour and battery went from 83% to 10%

Good computer for the price. Some issues I have with it are the touchpad, which is a little finicky. Also, the fan gets very loud when you are playing a power hungry game. Also, the battery life is not as good as I'd hoped when I bought it. It usually lasts about an hour and a half when playing a game and around 4 hours with other things like movies.

I bought this laptop for my son when it was on sale after his gaming PC went out. He loves it. He took it on a trip we went on recently so he could game during down time. The laptop does not look like a gaming laptop at first glance. Only by picking it up and noticing the depth and weight would you know. The design and looks of this laptop are amazing. He loves the performance it gives him while gaming.

The computer performs really well when it works. Though some games such as rainbow six siege has issues with the AMD software and refuses to use the dedicated GPU and remains on the integrated GPU... that is until you turn off smart switch and use dedicated permanently. Hopefully they fix this with an update but until then I have to give it a 4 star rating.

The performance for the money was great, buying it at 700 dollars. It can play most games that aren't too intensive at 144hz with mid-high settings. Borderlands 3 only ever drops to 120hz for example, while usually staying at 144hz. the only issue is how insanely quick the battery drains when unplugged, but that's not really an uncommon issue when using demanding software.

This is probably one of the best gaming laptops for the price. Perfect for playing any titles at 1080p. It will get high FPS. The fans are a little loud when playing games that require more use from the GPU, but it's obviously designed to cool it well. Very impressed with its performance so far.

This is the first laptop I bought that has no clear defects out of the box. The screen is bright, my games run well, and the laptop doesn't get hot after playing.
I wish:
1. They use USB-C power cords instead.
2. At least 1 USB-C point on either side of the laptop.
Otherwise it's working great!

Great quality and awesome features: screen, speakers were fantastic. Runs fast, too. I returned due to fan noise and inhave dry eye so the hot air was a problem. If you wear noise blocking headphones, I'm sure the fan noise wouldn't be an issue just like with all other gaming laptops.

I haven't used it for that long, but it is fairly light and does everything I put it thorw relatively fast. I had a proble were the screen would randomly go black like 2 times, but it hasn't happened since, so I'm not really sure what was up. Eitherway, for the price that I payed, this was a steal.

Overall solid rig, slightly better performance than my 11th gen i7/3060 tufbook. Got it for 699 a steal. Screen is slightly wobbys if shaken but that isnt a big deal. Fans do start to get hot and loud. Terrible shipping from best buy, they shipped my laptop in a bag.... 1 star there.

This laptop is great for running hefty games, doesn’t lag very much, but the only downside is that the battery doesn’t last very long. Not a huge issue for me but if that is something you are looking for I wouldn’t recommend using this.

Got it on sale for 800, could not be happier with the price! For the price I purchased it at, you get the best price to performance ratio of any budget gaming laptop, and the AMD advantage is the icing on the cake. I've seen the reviews complaining about the wobbly screen, but that didn't bother me too much. In addition, the laptop is perfectly accessible for future upgrades and I already installed another SSD easily without any hiccups. Battery lasts long enough for work, and gaming is smooth for what you pay for. The FHD display is serviceable although the 16:9 aspect ratio does leave a little to be desired for. I really don't think you can get anything better for this price to performance ratio and would highly recommend it on sale for 800 if it happens again.

I've been using this laptop for 3 years now and it's been wonderful. Most games run great and video editing has also been possible. The screen is nice enough and the keyboard is more than serviceable.
