I had high hopes and was very excited about the purchase of this rig so I'll begin with the "Pro" aspects:
The numbers are very nice.
16gb RAM, expandable to 4x that
i7 processor
SSD O/S drive
2TB data drive
Dedicated video card with 8gb RAM
Milti-display output.
With the SSD, boot-up was incredibly fast. A beautiful thing.
The "Con" side and my difficulties:
First thing I noticed is that, though the literature said it supported 5.1 audio, (It did not qualify that with "virtual" or any other similar terminology), it did not. Since my computer is used also as my main entertainment system, that was a must-have. Figured I could find a work-around later.
Second, the CD/DVD drive is vertically-mounted. It is not a tray, but instead like a laptop drive that pops out a bit. The business side of the drive is on the right, facing the unit. Due to the arrangement of my home office, the computer can only sit on the right meaning I had to contort myself to "snap" a disc into the drive. (This is not something that can be done reliably by feel since the way the drive is arranged, the center of it is not in the center of the setup. Hard to explain, but try to picture it.)
Windows 10 was strange and by that I mean it felt buggy or unstable. For instance, if I right-clicked on any folder in File Manager, the File Manager would crash. I hunted for quite some time before I found a fix for that.
I could not get the file indexing to work. If I searched (sought?), it would tell me indexing was turned off and gave me the option to turn it on, which I chose, with no change. Mind you, this was a brand new setup with very little on the drive, yet a search would just sit there churning away. I did everything I could find online about the indexing and nothing rectified the issue.
There were some other quirky/pesky/annoying things as well. For instance, in order to access updated drivers for the video card, one is required to create an account with the card company which requests more than email and name but additional information as well.
I could not get the Bluetooth to work. HP was telling me there were updates for it which I attempted to download but then they wouldn't install, saying something about incompatibility. That was true of other firmware updates from HP as well.
Finally, it suddenly stopped detecting the Wi-fi network and I couldn't get it to work for anything. I removed the side panel and there were two very fine wires coming from the power supply that were dangling there. They had solder on their ends and I assumed they had disconnected from something.
Somewhere in the midst of this, one of the keys in the included keyboard stuck, causing chaos onscreen. Fortunately, I have several keyboards and I was able to fix the key issue later. Still, the keyboard had hardly been used.
At this point, I was on my fifth day of trying to set this up and get it all running correctly (still without the surround sound being addressed). I was exasperated and felt like throwing it through a perfectly good window. Instead, I called the local Geek Squad here in Holyoke and reached a very helpful and calming gentleman who told me what should have been obvious to me on the first day ... "If its this problematic so soon, bring it back and have it swapped out or look for something else." I put my stubbornness temporarily aside and returned it. .
Best Buy was excellent about accepting the return. A salesman was likewise excellent in helping me select something else, for which I now await delivery ... and for which I hope to be able to compose a gleaming review and recommendation in the near future.
The review form is requiring me to answer Yes or No to: "I would recommend this to a friend." If my disappointments were due solely to the features, I would recommend it. But honestly, the software bugs, the firmware bugs, the Wi-fi problem and the dangling wires force me to choose No. I don't do that lightly because I have had nothing but excellent performance from HP rigs and peripherals in the past.
I hope this is of some help to someone along the line.

I really liked the specs on this machine. However, the reality proved disappointing.
First, the DVD drive is vertical and is something like the kind in a laptop. It requires one to snap the disc into place in order for it to be read. In my case, it faced the direction that was impossible for me to use the drive without contorting myself. It also feels very flimsy.
Even though it advertised 5.1 surround, it does not support it. That was a deal-breaker for me but figured I could throw in a sound card later as a work-around.
The combo of the CPU and SSD is really nice. Boot-up was nearly instant.
Windows 10 was really buggy. I had to keep finding work-arounds for a number of irksome annoyances. For example, if I right-clicked on any files in file manager, file manager crashed which made moving files impossible. I spent four days on such annoyances. I really really wanted it to work.
Ultimately, it stopped detecting the wifi and nothing I did was able to bring it back. I took off the side panel and saw two small black wires from the power supply hanging in midair. They had solder on the end so it appears they became detached.
At that point I was frustrated and brought it back to the store and exchanged for another brand which experience was quite similar to this one.
I am sorry to have to write a negative review. I've had very good luck with HP in the past and I really wanted this to work.

Poor documentation on usb ports on top of the machine. Incorrect number of usb ports in most of the seller specs. There are four usb 2.0 and four usb 3.0. Chat with HP Tech support cleared most of it up. Supervisor from HP called back because he felt I was not satisfied with the answer I got and we talked for 45 minutes on the phone about the documentation and answered all of the questions I had on this PC. DVD player is flimsy.

This machine is very fast.
Pros: 10 USB ports (four 3.0 and six 2.0)make it possible to connect a lot of stuff. 70 FPS on my game even in high detail mode. Cool case with colorful lighted accent bars. built in WI-FI and blue tooth. LOTS of storage. 2 Year warranty!
Cons: No room to grow. no external bays to add your favorite blue ray player or multi slot card reader. Power supply is a little weak at 500W but seems to do the job. HP assistant wants to bug you constantly. DVD player is cheap proprietary stuff with no way of upgrading.
Overall: Amazing gaming desktop. I considered Alienware but this one had a little more BANG for the buck. I would not hesitate to recommend this to any gamer.
