I got this hp omen laptop to update my portable gaming computer. I have one that is just about 2.5 years old and it still works well, and has similar specs to this. That being said, my son used it a lot and he's hard on stuff, so the screen does not close on the old anymore, and the w key fell off. This unit has the same 16gb ram, 1tb hard drive, the screen here is an inch smaller, but wow, the 2.8 k oled screen is sharp, great detail, and has untouchable contrast since it is oled. My old computer is brighter, but if you have this type of black, the brights look better. Colors are great. This is an intel processor, my other was amd, I have no complaints about either. This has quick start up and I haven't seen any hesitation. I have tested the unit with Fortnite, Forza 4 & 5, and Beam NG for several days now. The games load fast, no hesitation and no issues staying connected to the network. If not in headphones, the sound is very good, loud enough to disturb the whole room and ones next to you. There is no lag in rendering the graphics. It also runs fairly cool compare to my old unit. That us part I'd the reason why I was looking at a new one. I have 2 cooling pads and an external fan and it would still run extremely hot. The unit feels well made matte black metal l, 2 usbc's one in back and on on side, 2 usb ports, and and hdmi out slot. I do usually have this on it's cooling Base and use an wired full size keyboard when I can. The unit is thin and light, hard to believe it has all the processor, memory, and graphics card in this small base. It had no issues detecting the peripherals, and I have also used it to burn some cd's already. So far, comparing this to my old gaming laptop (very popular gaming only company) and even my desktop (gaming branch of another major company) this will hold it's own with both. I do not have benchmark testing software, but on paper looking at processors and video cards, this technically has the edge. I'm pleased with this device so far, and would reccomend it. I have owned many hp units over the years, I still have a corner with all of them in it, all run still, and if/when I ever had to call customer service (it wad rare) I know they were easy to work with also, another point to take comfort in if needed. It is a good laptop, and competative in build and pricepoint.

I have a great desktop and a great (but heavy) gaming laptop I use for longer term traveling, but I am constantly switching out the "on-the-go" options due to feature set updates and capability. I don't see myself switching this one out for the foreseeable future. This, absolutely, is a gaming laptop without the hefty look of one. Whether I'm playing games directly on the machine or streaming from other sources, everything has been handled without a hitch. The screen is bright and beautiful, with clarity and punch in colors and vibrancy. My go to test vids, besides games, are the enhanced Youtube scenic videos floating around. They look amazing here. Battery is what I'd expect. Shorter for intense gaming, but spread-out for daily operations. And regardless of which is being done, it stays cool enough to the touch. My last small factor laptop has a glaring omission. Due to its size, there was a major sacrifice on peripheral ports. The Omen has found a great balance between being very potable and still packing on all the basic needs one would need to plug and play the devices you'd typically carry. The build feels solid enough to be tossed in my bag without kiddy gloves and the keys have a great spring to them. The RGB keyboard is a nice touch, but besides the aesthetic, I'm just appreciative of the backlit keyboard. If you are a student or professional looking for something fully functional without the heft of the gaming beasts, this is it. Fully capable of running all my titles and doing any work that needs to be done when the time arises, all while taking up a fraction of your bag of choice. I haven't had a need to test out the chip/gpu duty separation but if it holds as advertised, that would be a big plus for any streaming out there who want to keep their FPS counts up while the CPU takes care of the stream processing. Should I foray into that arena, I'm assured this little beast can handle it.

I bought this laptop as a work expense for work travel as i needed something on top of the existing chunky gamimg laptop i use for events to run our simulator. Needed something lighter and a bit smaller that could still run the simulation in the worst case. Performance-wise, this laptop was great but after having an issue where the “W” key on the laptop literally stopped working, TWICE, i can no longer recommend. I had this sent to geek squad the first time and they told me it was a software issue and wiped my entire laptop. Had it back for about a month and the same issue came back and the “W” key does mot work again and i domt have the time to keep erasing windows and resetting the machine each time this occurs. HP needs to fix this problem with an expensive laptop like this which doesnt see heavy work loads.

Glitchy. The keyboard didn’t stay in the rainbow effect and it took forever to figure out how to change it. I didn’t think the graphics were any better than any other laptop I have used recently. I prefer my MacBook.

OMEN 14 is a nice travel business/gaming laptop

HP OMEN - Transcend 14" 120Hz 2.8K OLED Gaming Laptop - Intel Core Ultra 7-155H - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 - 1TB SSD - Shadow Black The Omen 14 is quite a laptop. Its color is a subdued black with four zone customizable RGB keyboard providing all the color you could ask for. I found the keyboard to provide quiet typing with good key travel. The laptop itself is thin but solid feeling with an all-metal case. Among other things, it sports the following: -16 GB LPDDR5 RAM at 7467 MHZ (soldered only, offers 32 GB option) -1 TB Gen4 PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD -Wi-Fi- 6E with 5.3 BT -2.8K (2880x1800) (16:10) OLED Display with thin bezels & 500 nits brightness -Intel Core Ultra 7 processor Series 1 -NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 -Has 2 USB-A ports, one is PD -Has 2 USB-C ports, one is Thunderbolt 4.1, DP 1.4 (PD) and one is a charging port (fast charger 0-50% in about 30 min). Can charge through other USB-C but not fast charging. -Has 1 full-size HDMI port -FHD IR Webcam with Windows Hello I ran both 7 Days to Die and Sniper Elite 5 to see what the OMEN 14 would do while having a 27” external monitor attached at the same time. In 7d2d my results ran from 75 fps to 117 fps with only a few drops below 60 fps for very brief moments. 7d2d can get hairy on the graphics side. In Sniper Elite 5 it ran between 135 fps to 170 fps with it mostly hitting around 147 fps. To consistently play heavy graphics games, I would recommend the 32 GB RAM option (soldered in). However, my gaming experience was quite good and enjoyable. Keep in mind, too, that my experience was with DLSS off – if on, it will boost frame rates with a small hit to visual quality but it’s adjustable so that you can give up more visual quality for faster frame rates if you like. My graphic settings were set to High. The OMEN 14 handled cooling just fine. The fans spun up, but they weren’t loud, and performance wasn’t adversely affected in full gaming mode. The sound was good with the built-in speakers so that you could clearly hear what was going on during gaming. Of course, it offers a headphone jack if you want wired sound. The touch-pad is large and handles the full range of multi-fingered gestures. It isn’t in the class of glass touch-pads Apple is known for, but it works quite well. I have to say that the OLED screen is to die for. Beautiful colors and contrasts, sharp and clear. You couldn’t ask for anything nicer. Note that the OMEN 14 uses both the RTX 4060 and integrated graphics with Intel Arc, which it controls depending on the demand you’re putting on it. Note only the built-in OLED screen and/or an external monitor hooked up through the HDMI port only will use the RTX 4060. You can run up to 2 external monitors off the Thunderbolt USB-C port, but that will only engage the Intel Arc integrated graphics, which is perfectly acceptable for office work but may not work very well for most gaming or intensive video/photo editing. Your battery life can run from an hour to 5 hours give-or-take without being plugged in. However, as noted above you can fast-charge for 30 minutes to bring your battery to 50%. This can be quite helpful while traveling or in class. Overall, this is a nice traveling laptop (3.6 lbs.) that will handle a variety of graphics-oriented work as well as gaming if you don’t expect desktop performance. If you are into heavy graphics work/heavy gaming as the norm, I would recommend the 32 GB RAM option that includes the RTX 4070 GPU and Intel Core 9 I believe).
