After many many hours of trying to figure out why this computer is so slow I finally figured out that it runs fine when not plugged into the AC adapter. HP Tech support offered no assistance. To make matters worse I'm still unsure if it's the AC adapter, battery or the motherboard that's causing the issue but I'd steer clear of HP due to their lack of assistance.

A good starter gaming laptop, but upgrade RAM ASAP

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Priced right for what you receive, but I highly recommend upgrading the RAM as soon as possible. It only comes with one stick of 8GB, and that's not much. Get a second 8GB stick to get full-speed, or two sticks of 16GB each to futureproof. GTX 1650 runs modern games alright at High settings, but don't push it past that. This is a starter gaming laptop after all. Fans only ever turn on when it's running a significant load. It's completely silent otherwise. Display is alright, keyboard is better than I expected. Touchpad is a little finnicky but it's functional. Battery life has been great for non-gaming tasks; averages 8-10 hours for general web browsing. My laptop's Cinebench R20 score: 3439 My laptop's UNIGINE Superposition score: 5007

Sadly, this PC did not work for me. I didn't but laptop for gaming but for it's LAN port and backlit keyboard. I couldn't get the trackpad arrow to just hover & NOT 'click.' Tried internet fixes with no luck. Even Geek squad unable to turn this off. I don't know if this is typical in PC world, but totally unknown and unacceptable for a Mac user

I'm not sure if its just the unit I got but the screen hinge of the unit I got is really squeaky and flimsy with little movement. I found that others in the reviews had the same issue in other reviews but I can attest that its indeed true. The laptop itself feels like cheap plastic all over.

The audio of the laptop had issues right from the beginning. There was a squeaking sound in the background whenever any music was played, or even for zoom meetings. Got it replaced with HP OMEN gaming laptop.

Great bang for the buck. Extremely good value for the money. It has a solid feel to it and is fast. I added another 8 GB of RAM and now it screams! The display is sharp. The backlit keyboard, although only is green, has two light settings. The fan, which rarely has to run, is very quiet.

My children have had problem with the battery life on these since day one. One childscomputer started acting up even with him playing safe games and being on child lock maybe a month after he started playing on it. Ended up not turning on for him anymore. My other child has always delt with his battery issues by keeping it plugged in all of the time. Hiwever lately he is having a problem with that even working. Going into keyboard use. It calibrates itself however it wants to. Works sometimes and not others. The keyboard isnt very durable as both children lost the a key within the first month of using it. I would not recommend.

    Awesome Entry-Level Gaming Laptop

I bought this on 11/22/2020 for $449.99 during the Black Friday sale. Played Battlefield 1 on ultra 1080p settings getting 50-60fps. GPU utilization was around 80-90% and CPU utilization was at 50-60%. I did get some stuttering during gameplay especially in large multiplayer maps. I checked the RAM and it was at 99% utilization, therefore I ordered another 8GB of Crucial 3200Mhz CL22 RAM. I also played the Witcher 3 and noticed stuttering when setting graphics to ultra. Highly recommend that everyone updates the RAM to 16GB if you plan on playing AAA games. Also, the screen seems to be a 6-bit TN panel but the image quality is acceptable, just make sure to turn down the gamma level as it is set to high from the factory leading to slightly washed out blacks. Next I will attempt to unlock the panels adaptive sync using CRU, hopefully I can get 72hz like to other people seem to be getting.

I recently bought this laptop when it was on sale for 450.00 at best buy. I have to say that this is a great gaming laptop if your at a budget. The specs are pretty good for a laptop at the original msrp price. The only downside that can probably affect you is the screen, the resolution and the quality is not that good but it doesn't affect me personally with my gaming and for school. I am currently using a gaming monitor and its the ASUS VG249Q and its a nice combo for the laptop. I mostly use the monitor when i'm at home but when I am on vacation, I did get used to the displays screen quality after a week or 2 of constant usage. Surprisingly, this replaced my gaming pc that I returned due to faulty hardware. The body of the laptop does feel a little bit low quality but I don't really mind since I use an external mouse and keyboard. The camera of laptop is pretty decent. I've been using this laptop for school and it works perfectly even when im doing tasks. You unfortunately can't change the color of the keyboard and you can change the brightness or just turn it off to save battery. I was surprised by the battery life since I play games a lot, I do take the charger out to let the battery run out of juice. But I have to say that the battery life and performance of this laptop while running on its own power with no external charger plugged in, it works pretty well considering my dad's gaming laptop suffers that it can't play well and the performance is cut down when the power supply is not plugged in. But for the price and the specs. The price is right even if its not on sale.

I got this laptop a few days ago, and it works alright. The keyboard is nice feelings, its powerful can run multiple games at maybe 150+ frames per secound. The first day minecraft was using 200 frames but few hours later it was dropped by 60+. Dont know why but not complaining because still enjoyable. Another thing i dont like is that too little 256b and the memory used up like half of it. First day wasnt and trying to find a way to fix it.

I got this laptop for $449 during Black Friday. I waited less than a week to get mine, so it was not much of a wait. Good: - Performance - Keyboard - Look of it - Price - Thermals Bad: - "Creaky" Hinge - Screen - Memory & Storage The laptop comes with a GTX 1650, with 4 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. It also comes with a Ryzen 5 4600H, 8 GB of DDR4-3200MHz RAM (in single channel), and a 256 GB SSD. I've been able to run all of my games on high settings with 60 fps. Some even at ultra. This laptop also does good when you're rendering things such as on blender. It will not do so good on more demanding games like Red Dead Redemption 2, but you can always lower the settings and get a better experience. The SSD is pretty fast, it boots up in seconds and everything is pretty snappy. I'd say keep the laptop plugged in when gaming, or it will not run well. I've been able to play minecraft with shaders and get above 60 fps. This laptop is very good for the money when it comes to performance. The laptop comes with a green backlit keyboard, in 3 modes. You can change the brightness of it, but not the color. The keyboard is pretty nice, I've noticed it does get dirty easily but can be cleaned easily as well. The keyboard backlight turns off after around 15 seconds of doing nothing, but I'm pretty sure you can change this in BIOS. The laptop looks pretty nice, it's black and plastic. The speakers look very nice and they are top firing. They aren't the best speakers, but they're pretty good for the laptop you're getting. It has a central hinge, and the touchpad is pretty loose near the ends, but it isn't too much of a big deal for me since I used a mouse. The laptop is normally $699, which is a pretty good price. I would wait for it to go on sale for $599, which is a great deal for this laptop. $449 is probably the best you'll get. Overall, wait for it to go on sale before buying. This laptop has pretty good thermals considering the price. I haven't seen the GTX 1650 GPU go past 65C much in any of my gaming tests. The air comes in from the bottom in a big intake vent, and goes out the back exhaust. Keep this thing on a laptop stand or cooling pad and you should have no issues with the thermals. The laptop has a pretty good battery life, it's nothing too crazy but you'll be able to watch youtube and browse the web for a few hours before needing to plugin. You can also do some light gaming on it, but it will be significantly reduced in FPS if you do depending on the game. Now, for the bad stuff. The hinge is pretty creaky when you open it. Sometimes it's noticeable, sometimes you won't hear it. It's nothing too concerning, but it's pretty annoying sometimes and is sort of concerning. I'm sure the hinge will last long, but I would still keep this in mind. The screen isn't terrible like everyone says. After calibration, it looks pretty normal. The colors are sort of washed out out-of-the-box, but after you calibrate it, it won't look so bad. It's 1080p and it isn't too bright. You can adjust the brightness with FN+F2 & F3. The screen is 60hz. The laptop only comes with 8 GB of RAM, which is good itsself, but it's only in single channel RAM. If you order more RAM, you can have it in dual channel and you will get much more performance in games. The laptop only comes with 256 GB in the SSD as well, which will not last you long. It's very good for a boot drive, but it comes with a 2.5 inch drive bay if you want to add a SATA SSD or HDD. You could also buy another NVMe drive. Overall, I think it's good.

Pros - Fast! Bang for the buck while the offer lasted. Cons - The screen has horrible viewing angles, wish the RAM came in dual channel. Speakers are mediocre. Overall - It's really good. The keyboard is good, you can upgrade the RAM, you can add more storage using a SATA drive. The components don't get extremely hot.
