    So far, so good...

    Posted .

I just bought this machine a few days ago. Everything has been working perfect so far. I feel that the processor/storage/graphics combination is a pretty good deal for the price. I upgraded to the full 8GB of ram, and it runs my applications perfectly (MS Office, Adobe CS5: Photoshop, illustrator, indesign, bridge, etc...). I haven't installed any graphic intense games yet, we'll see what happens. The only issue I have is that the keyboard and mouse both require USB slots. I have multiple external hard drives, webcam, printer, wacom tablet, etc... that all require USB, so those slots are valuable to me and i don't like wasting two on mouse/keyboard... but if that is the worst I have to deal with, than I'll be happy :)

    Great computer, A must buy

    Posted .

I bought this to replace a 6 year old Acer desktop that had served its purpose. This HP is fantastic and I can't say enough about it. It's fast, it had a great price. I use my home computer for compressing movies, editing movies, a TiVo server, a PlayOn server, etc so my Acer couldn't keep up. This one can and then some. I can have all of this running at the same time and this computer never coughs, breaths heavy or stutters one bit. I choose this one over the $930 HP 6-core because I didn't need a blu-ray drive. Frankly you can buy another 2GB of RAM and a BD burner cheaper than the $300 price difference. Cons - None Pros - Fast, Windows 7 does great on it, plenty of RAM, tons of hard-drive space, handles everything I mention above I would highly recommend this HP to anyone and have. You can't beat it for the price and features. A++

Great machine, but not for a power user

    Posted .

I bought this computer when my other computer died suddenly. It is pretty snappy. The 6 gb of memory and 1 tb hard drive are great. The ON switch is on the top, making it very handy. The memory card reader is at the top of the front panel, above the CD drive, so it is quite accessible as well. The case is quite small, so you won't be able to do much upgrading. it does not support IDE, so if you want to add a second CD/DVD drive or hard drive you will need to get SATA. The power supply is an outdated 250 watts. It only has MOLEX power connectors, so you will also need MOLEX to SATA power adapters in order to add those extra SATA drives. You have to remove the power supply to get a second CD/DVD drive installed. Overall, I can live with this machine, but I feel limited with it, compared to my last computer.

    Great Bang for the Buck

Computer was great right out of the box. The wireless was easy to set up and works without any hiccups. It's an extraordinarily quiet machine, especially with the heat-sink only graphics card I inserted. The power supply was a little wimpy, but that's an easy $20 upgrade. The quad-core allowed me to install a game while transferring files, while downloading another browser, while browsing with the preloaded one. Each one ran like it was the only thing up. Great deal!

    Quality computer for the price.

I bought this computer as a replacement to my 4 year old Dell Workstation, and it has served me well so far. Have done a little of everything with it (browsing, videos, movies, and gaming), and it does all very well. The only hiccup is with gaming, as it has an onboard video card rather than a dedicated one, however, even with the onboard you are still able to play most modern games with fairly good to modest settings. It has some room for expansion as well, with an open ram slot (for another 2 GB ram upgrade), and an open PCI-E slot as well. Overall definitely a good computer for the price!

    Great PC

    Posted .

I bought this PC because my old PC (about 5 years old with 2gb's of RAM) was slowing down when I loaded and tried to edit my SLR photos. The 6 Gigs of RAM is great, but 8 Gigs would have been nice. The 6 Gigs does everything I need to for photo editing, but I have seen a ton of computers out there with 8 gigs. The 1TB hard drive is also very nice. I am not a fan of the "HP" software that is installed, but have been able to disable the things I don't like. The windows 7 is very nice as well. A few more USB's would have been nice, as well as a dual monitor setup, but for $629.00 what can you ask for.

Good computer, good value, weak GPU

    Posted .

It's a nice machine and at the price I got it for quite a good value. There are 6GB of nice fast RAM, which will get you a quick Windows 7 environment and webbrowsing, a great big hard drive, and the built in media slots are great for people like me who fill up loads of SD cards with photos. However, this is clearly not a machine for gaming. It has the requisite CPU power and RAM, but the video card is really quite lacking. You won't be jacking Crysis up to max, or even medium. Be aware that this machine only has a 250W power supply, so if you want to upgrade anything, you will need to upgrade that as well. If you are looking for a midrange gaming machine, you may wish to look elsewhere.

    Great Computer at This Price

    Posted .

I have had this computer for about 3 weeks and so far it has work well. The integrated video card is more powerful than your regular integrated video card and it has two connections for monitors if you are looking to use two monitors has enough power to play WOW on standard settings. I have upgraded the operating system to Windows 7 Professional and it has the required chip specs to run the included Virtual PC in order to run in Windows XP mode for legacy programs that cannot run under windows 7. If you are into upgrading your computer it has room to add a stick of 2GB PC3 Memory and room to add another Hard Drive and you still have one SATA port open. The case is well built and easy to work in. It would be quite easy to upgrade the power supply and put a video card in here if you wanted a better video solution. It has a slot and room for a video card that takes up two slots. I have had no trouble with the wireless connections with this. It comes with an antenna to hook into the wireless to get better connection if you are a few rooms away from your router. Also you can connect all of your favorite smart media cards (SD, xD, etc) and has a drop down front to reveal audio ports and two usb ports. Runs cool and quiet. Does not really come with as much bloatware as you might expect from a retail desktop, I only had to remove a few programs.

    Great Computer

I've had this computer for about a week now. No problems so far. Works much better than my old one. No problem getting the wireless to work with my Netgear wireless router and AT&T internet. Windows 7 is a little different than XP. Just have to learn where everything is at. I think it is a very good computer.

    Happily Surprised

    Posted .

Given Best Buy's sketchy return policy, I was worried about buying a computer there, but no problems so far (I'll post if there are...) Having built and repaired computers, I also wasn't convinced about the quality of HP. I must say, I am Very Happy with both my Best Buy experience (I bought it in store - it was the last one in the area) and this HP Pavilion. It was checked over by the Geek Squad: they benchmarked it, removed the bloatware, and included all the software and backup disks before I arrived for an extra $99. I Am Glad For It. (Otherwise, one has to order the software disks from HP and create one's own backup disks - they are not gratis - not to mention there's always the fear that it's not put together correctly, hence the benchmarking.) Just took it home and plugged it in -- all beauty, speed, reliability, stability, and excellent little features. I am, as they say, a Happy Camper. I have an older VGA flatscreen monitor that works perfectly with it. The wireless modem is flawless (router in another room in a home that doesn't get cell phone reception) - just make sure you screw in the antennae and place it above board. It is a Little Thing and No Bother. The price for this strength processor was unbeatable - I shopped for 6 or 7 months before buying. I am not a gamer, so have had no trouble with the smaller power supply (it saves energy which is fine with me). There it is - A+ (the plus for the work being done before purchase by the Geek Squad). Hope that helps.

    Good product for home use.

    Posted .

I purchased this PC to replace my old desktop PC. It was so old that it was still using Windows 98. I primarily use my laptop, so this computer has been used by the kids more than by me. It was pretty easy to set up and get started using. It does not recognize my ancient speakers that were on my old desktop. I guess I will need to go buy some new ones. The wireless feature was a big reason I purchased this model. My internet is through Verizon by using my phone as a hotspot. The wireless feature works well. I also wanted the 1 TB hard drive for storing media. This PC had the best combination of features I needed for a reasonable price. I like Windows 7 with the exception that I have been unable to figure out the network sharing feature. My kids have Windows 7 on their laptops and I had hoped to give them access to the 1TB hard drive on this PC from their laptops. That said, it is still much better than Vista. So far the unit has been reliable and easy to use.

Good for a college student who also plays games.

I purchased this computer because I wanted something for school and for gaming. I mainly play WoW and this computer handles it perfectly. The quad core processor is definitely a plus. I thought the computer was a little pricey but it also came with a wireless printer which adds value.

    Processor Alert

    Posted .

I was satisfied with the value for the price of this product, but upon further investigation the processor that HP claims is in this computer is a slightly different one than advertised. The claim is that it is an AMD Phenom II 820 Quad Core processor, but the actual model is a "830" which seems to be specially made for HP based upon the same architecture. Plus, the BIOS on the motherboard does not allow any tinkering with the settings for overclocking attempts. If this were not the case for this model, then I would have been overjoyed with my purchase, but still... it's okay I guess.

Processing speed is excellent. RAM & Hard drive capacity is just what we needed for our accounting software. Set up was simple. Not using all of the features available however, wireless connection was easy to set up and is reliable for our needs.

    Price point matches Specs

    Posted .

Pros: Quad Core AMD Phenom™ II Processor- Great for multitasking and running Multicore applications 6GB Memory- Perfect amount of memory to handle the Operating system overhead while allowing plenty of RAM to be utilized by applications(Partial CON is that some of the RAM is needed for the integrated Video, so the higher amount is helpful in that regard) 1TB Hard Drive- Plenty of room for the typical home user Built-in Wireless on a Desktop- Very nice plus, free's up the user to place the system wherever they please in the home. Cons: Integrated Video ATI 4200. The default video for the system is fairly basic and a reason I did not give the system for Features and Performance 5 Stars. There are better offerings that could have been utilized without sacrificing price point. The default integrated graphics will work fine for any home user who is wanting to Surf the web, or play very basic graphical games. Any mainstream "Top 10" listed game for the PC would need to be played on lower graphic settings on this chipset however.

For the price this is a great computer

I'm a pc gamer looking for a computer that my dad would chip in and help me buy, this computer was probably the wrong choice but it does everything i ask it to do except run games. This desktop does have sufficient space for a dedicated graphics card up to a Geforce 550ti (dont use another graphics card unless you upgrade power supply) any larger then that and you will have to buy another computer case. If your not a gamer this computer is more then enough for you.
