The desktop computer is what it is. I consider this a basic model computer compared to what I would buy for me. But it is fine if you just want a computer for general purposes - MS Office, internet, email, DVDs, YouTube. I do not game so I can't judge on that. The computer is light; easy to lift/move. The button is very slim, so make sure who ever gets this desktop can see/locate it. The entire slim power button illuminates when on (just a white light). The computer takes about 9.5 seconds to load up and bring you to the home screen. For me, that is long. But for a regular user, it is fine. I am used to SSDs, which boot up faster. When you power on for the first time, Cortana talks you through the setup; you can turn off her voice if you want. Note: during the setup process, it asks you to setup a pin but tells you that you don't have to do so. However, there is no button to decline. You have to hit "Create Pin" first; then it will take you to a screen where you can hit "Cancel;" then it will take you to a screen where on the bottom left, it says "Do This Later." << This is not an HP thing. I am just giving you the note in case you need it. I connected this to my 1080p tv and it looked good on it. You can get to the AMD Settings by right clicking; and I believe it is the first option. I had to use "HDMI Scaling" to scale properly for my TV. You can also set for Gaming, Video, Display and System. The keyboard is blah. It has a slight delay when you type. The mouse is basic but just fine. YouTube looked good on it. It plays DVDs just fine, and uses CyberLink Power Media Player. I found the DVD drive to be loud. The computer itself is quiet though. I gave 3 starts because it is average. But for a general or basic user, it will get the job done. My recommendations to others depends on who I am recommending to.

Compact design is a mixed bag

There are some good things about this computer and some weak points. It's a fair value, particularly if on sale. Fair speed (needs an SSD to be considered fast). A good number of ports, Very quiet. Small footprint but no open drive bays. Certainly not a gaming machine. The biggest drawback, other than HP support, is the marginally sized 130W power supply. You better be happy with the configuration as it comes because there's not enough power to add a dedicated graphics card. I've had issues trying to use an external 4tb drive ... particularly on the USB C connection. It works perfectly on other computers but it is unstable on this one. That's where the notably horrible HP support comes in. Even though the computer is under warranty, their only response was that there is a "compatibility problem", and for a fee, I could talk with Level 2 support. No help, no troubleshooting or ideas. Um, really?

I had high hopes for this desktop tower but alas, they were quickly dashed by sluggish performance and a lack of expansion. I have had Pavilion desktop towers in the past so the first thing I did was to open up the case and take a good look at the motherboard as well as case. I am no means a computer expert but work with a fair bit of higher end towers for scientific data acquisition and processing. Thus, I recognize the importance and having some capabilities of expansion in order to prevent some measure of future-proofing for awhile to keep the system relevant. This tower comes standard with 1 TB hard drive and has one expansion slot, but unfortunately it is a 2.5in slot (laptop hard drive). With the ample space they could allowed any size drive to be installed, especially as memory of standard drives is cheap and so you could expand much beyond the space of the laptop drives at a lower price point. The mother board also has only one free SATA port and no further front access for another disc drive meaning your only real expansion option is another HD. Though 12 GB of Ram seems like a lot, most applications will quickly use up large portions of that. There are no other slots so you are effectively capped with how much memory can be added. It comes standard with a VGA port and quite surprisingly, a HDMI port. The motherboard has two PCI-E expansion ports (x1 and x16) which should allow some flexibility in graphics cards addition for gaming. In terms of performance, it is hard to have a good metric as the desktop I am replacing is one I built that was running off of Windows Vista. Though the processor of this Pavilion benchmarks at 4 time my old computer, the gains in performance have appeared minimal. This is likely owing to Windows 10 being a resource hog and requiring more memory and processing power. Overall, this system presents itself as an entry level computer that is likely perfect for an individual or family who is more focused on surfing the internet or doing basic computing projects, not likely for anyone that is really interested in gaming. It comes with a large amount of bloat-ware and at the listing price point, is better avoided as the value just isn't there.

Not a bad PC for mundane tasks, but I was sold this PC, and it was listed, as a gaming PC. I asked questions got answers, was assured it would run my games, specifically Destiny 2 and Division 2, neither of which it can run at any where near decent graphics, even on the lowest settings it drops frames like nuclear bombs. The processor is top notch as far as being a gen 2 it is more than capable of handling the load, its the integrated Vega graphics that drop the ball here. I would not even have an issue with it as I decided to just add a separate graphics card which would easily solve the problem, however since this is only a 180 watt PSU you need to replace the PSU as well, which still would not be a big deal but, and its a big BUT, the PSU is PROPRIETARY, so you cant necessarily just replace it as the motherboard requires non-standard connections, etc... Yay!!! So I do see that HP has 2 other possible power supplies, one being 500 watts, that may or may not work, but as I am cruising the HP forums looking for an answer, I see that HP ever answered the question when it was asked before. So in closing, I need to upgrade the powers supply, which is proprietary, meaning I cant even shop for a good deal even if it is replaceable I will have to get one from HP directly, which I am sure will be above standard prices for any kind of deals available, plus I have to fork out money for a video card if the upgrade to the PSU is even possible. I only wish I would have know all of this prior to my purchase because for $100 or so more I could have most likely purchased the next model or 2 up and had no issues. Very disappointed with this. Again, the PC if fine, great even, as a PC. Just not what I was looking for, or what I was told it was capable of in the graphics performance dept.

I was looking for something to replace my ailing all in one Windows Pc (great specks but problems with cooling). Looked at different places, different PCs and ended up with this one. Normally I get Intel based but AMD seems good too and configuration (RAM, ports, etc.) seems pretty attractive. I cloned my old PC hard drive on a new Samsung SSD and started my new PC set up with replacing hard drive with this SSD right away. It was a bit difficult to do as there were no good instructions for this model and I unscrewed too many screws, more than needed for sure. Took sliding side cover off (one fat screw), then unscrewed black panel on the right side under that cover, unplugged cables from hard drive and CD drive and pulled hard disk off. Tip :don't need to take off front panel as some HP guides suggest. It has no case and conversion case for 2.5 to 3.5 for SSD I got was useless, you don't need one. Instead you need small screws (I used ones that came with the conversion case) to bolt SSD to that black panel, pulled longer (second) hd connecter. There are two and original one was too short to connect to the side as original drive connected at the bottom of that cage. Make sure you mark all the connectors before you pulled them off CD and Hard drive as they look similar but won't connect into wrong places. I spent about 15 min trying to plug a wrong one, almost thought my SSD is not compatible:) At the end it all connected, and after I finished straggling with the small screws (tip: use magnet screwdriver), put internal panel back, and then main back panel I only had to turn power on. Maybe it's just me only but I had a hard time to find that power button. It's marked with tiny (for 50+ man) icon, narrow vertical button at the top. I always wonder why those buttons often designed in a way like they try to hide them?! Anyway, after it was powered PC quickly went on, configuration was updated, SSD loaded with my original data brought all my stuff right back and, after connecting to wifi, quickly opened up my home screen. It's not a bad PC, but upgrades are not as straightforward as with Dell machines I dealt before. But with 12 GB of RAM and such it's a good deal for under 500 bucks..

The computer I built for my parents about 5-6 years ago started acting up. I checked out what was on sale on BB website and found this one for $469.99. It would have cost about the same buying all the individual parts, waiting for it be shipped, putting it together, installing Windows and misc software. I plugged everything up and turned it on. Took about 15 minutes to setup Windows and log into all the email, google, and other accounts. For some reason it didn't use the proper resolution for the monitor and I had to manually go into display settings to change it. Other than that, everything else was good. Its plenty fast for my parents, paying bills online, checking email, facebook, watching some tv shows, web surfing, etc.

Bought this PC for photo editing and internet surfing. Out of the box it's a good running machine but BEGS for an Solid State Drive! I cloned the Toshiba 1TB HDD that came with it to a 500GB Samsung 860 EVO SSD and now it's a GREAT computer! I have a duel monitor setup and i also like how it has a small form factor so it fits comfortably on my desk with two 25in monitors. The AMD Ryzen 5 CPU is nice as well, paired up the the Radeon VEGA graphics! To top it all off the price is sweet!

Once the tower "wakes up" it runs fast. But it runs slow before that. It has speed and the graphics are good and runs well during the games I play . ... dollar for dollar compared to other brands of similar specs it is less expensive for the same specs as other brands. I have used HP products over the past 20 years and they have proven to be reliable.

I bought this PC yesterday and I think its really good. I was skeptical whether or not it would run games but it seems to do so pretty well... even on wifi. I would suggest buying this desktop mainly because of the processor. The other pc of this kind has a 3 series and its the same price, which doesnt make a whole lot of sense. You could buy the cyberpower pc for the same price but it also has a 3 series. it mainly just looks cooler. nevertheless, great computer.

Rattling on the inside of case

I was going to use this desktop for gaming of last gen games, so I overlooked the fact that it has a tiny power supply that may not be able to be upgraded to support a better video card. When I took the desktop home, I set it all up, and then I went to move the case and when I picked it up, I heard metal rattling on the inside of the case. I opened the case and it took a bit but I was able to recover a piece of scrap metal. I have no idea what it was, but am certain it was not supposed to be there. I returned the desktop and will not buy another, this was the second return due to two bad HP products.

Great computer for doing everyday jobs. Not a bleeding edge gaming console but can handle some AAA games like Doom. Great graphics built in and handles graphic design programs with ease. The only problem is the number of USB ports.

Short answer skip this unless all you want to do is waste time trying to browse the web or check email. This was shipped very late from the factory to my house first strike. Comes with a standard basic usb keyboard and mouse, nothing fancy very basic. Tower is fully assembled along with power cord. First boot was pretty slow on the included 1tb hdd. I can't believe they still make systems with these slow mechanical drives for the boot drive. First thing I did was put in a m2 WD 500gb SSD. (No m2 screw included). If you planning on doing the same you will need to remove the hdd rack to get to the slot which was annoying but only about 10 min of work. Note you will need a computer tool set the screws were of the hex variety, likely to detour ppl like me who like to tinker with things. Ok so everything is up and running and I want to migrate my hdd to my ssd for a nice smooth copy, easy right? Wrong the hdd has physical file errors according to windows. After banging my head against the wall for about 30 min trying to make the copy I decide to just reformat and go from scratch..which worked fine. Windows activated my license with no issues. The Ryzen 5 2400g APU leaves much to be desired from a gaming standpoint. Its comparable to a Nvidia 1030gt which isn't much. If you esport you'll be fine but anything more and you will regret this decision. Granted this is not meant to be a gaming rig but that is what I tested. The case is so small you won't find much room for upgrading. The psu is only 180w so you wont be putting a 1060 inside here anytime soon. Temps are marginal idles around 30-40 under OCCT load maxed at around 90c, cpu is rated up to 105c. One exhaust fan inside. Overall I would not recommend this without the understanding it really needs a SSD to even begin to be on par with usable this day in age. If you game don't bother with the APU you will be disappointed. Save up and get yourself an actual gaming machine with dedicated graphics. If you add an SSD and just plan to use it as a workstation or casual browsing perfect setup then.
