The HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop is a pretty good entry level tower. In the box you get nice mouse and keyboard, power cord, and the tower itself of course. The tower has an excellent build quality and I really like the color scheme. Set up is simple with Windows as usual. And in my case the monitor is an HP 25X. As far as specs you are getting an AMD Ryzen 5, AMD Radeon RX 580 graphics, 8gb DDR4 ram, a 128gb SSD, and a 1tb hard drive, DVD writer, and more. It also has all the ports you will need. In the front there are 2 USB 3.1, memory card reader, and 1 USB 3.1 type C. In the rear there are 1 HDMI, 2 USB 2.0, 4 USB type 3.1, and display port. So you should be covered as far as ports go. Performance is great for the price you pay. Im new to PC gaming and have been a diehard console fan for years. I didnt know what the big deal was with PC until now. You get so used to the performance of your average console that you dont know it can actually get better. Well it can and did. Very impressed with this PC. The only thing I think Ill miss is the other brands exclusives. But for multi platform games this is the way to go. But I will admit I have a very hard time with mouse and keyboard. So I will most likely be connecting a standard controller. I know this is a PC no-no. But I just cant get used to the mouse and keyboard. For the amount you pay you get a great gaming experience, and of course a very well performing PC as well. So this is something you definitely wont get with a console. So its kind of a do it all machine. No more having to pause my console, then get on a different PC to search for tips for a level or boss fight Im having a problem with. Just pause the game and click on Chrome to search. If you are new to PC gaming like me this is a great way to get into PC gaming. You wont have to spend a ton, and you get very good performance out of the box. And if you want to upgrade later you can do that here. You arent stuck with console performance. If you want to improve things you can without having to buy a whole new console. Highly recommended for people either looking into PC gaming, or someone that already is and doesnt want to break the bank.

Could not change BIOS to boot from another drive.

No matter what we tried we could not change the boot drive from what came with the PC to my relatively new SSD drive from my old computer. This is usually no big deal. Why HP made so you couldn't change the boot drive is unknown to us. Returned it to Best Buy who were very accommodating. Bought all the components separately and built one that could use my drive. The PC may be just fine but not if you want to boot from another drive.

    HP motherboard ruins this product

You get what it says you get, and if you know computers well, you wouldn’t usually buy this product. Motherboard is HP specific not upgradable other than RAM which is only 8 and should be 16. Not a bad purchase for a child, or someone who does normal work load while maybe playing a mild low quality game. Certainly can not run latest games like cyberpunk or warzone.

First off, in the AMD Display Controls DO NOT set Virtual Super Resolution to on. DO NOT do it unless you want 10-20 FPS in games like Rocket League or (cringing as I type this) Fortnite. Just don't do it. This is an exceptional low to mid range gaming rig. I would compare the Ryzen 5 as just north of a i5 and not quite as good as a i7 from personal experience. Running benchmarks may not say the same, but the eye test and feel makes it seem closer to a i7. In my opinion, if you are on the fence between a i7 and this, save some coins and buy a few games. On to the hardware. The AMD 2nd Generation Ryzen 5 processor and AMD Radeon RX 580 graphics GPU are a great pairing. With 8 GB of system and 4 GB of video memory, I am hard pressed to tax the machine. My son has been streaming his games playing Rocket League, Minecraft, etc. while running Discord and streaming his playlists from the flavor of the month streaming music platform he is using. Game play could not be much smoother, as long as you DO NOT set Virtual Super Resolution. Peripheral wise the keyboard and mouse are meh. Replace as soon as possible. Ports, plenty of ports: 1 HDMI, 3 display port, 2 USB 3.1, 2 USB 2.0, 4 USB 3 and 1 USB-C and Gig-E Ethernet. This has AC Wi-Fi that has really good range. I am surprised at the range for a desktop machine. There is also Bluetooth built in. I would definitely recommend this to someone looking for a mid range gaming PC or even a really really good day to day desktop. The processors can handle VR, if you have the headsets or are planning to buy. Frame rates: Maxed out at 250 FPS consistently in Rocket League. Constantly above 80 FPS in Gary's Mod, Fortnite, and most other shooters.

I bought this computer got it home and set it up and was very happy with it until the next day. I went to turn it on and it wouldn't do anything except show the HP logo. Did all the regular things to try and get it to work to no avail. I returned it and got another one of the exact same type figuring the one I got was just a fluke because nothing is perfect. Brought the second one home and it did the same thing after 3 days. Returned it and bought a different brand. With all that said the customer service was excellent and would recommend the store I bought the computer from just not that brand of computer The one I have now works perfectly with no issues. I'm guessing this particular model has some manufacturing issues. But what do I know other than two in a row didn't work.

This is the worst computer I've ever owned. I've had this PC for 7 months now and it's has never functioned in a way a computer that costs $830 should. I have had issues with the display ports not working, freezing every two seconds, the computer being slow in general, it has totally crashed once, it doesn't wake up after being put to sleep, and I get a blue screen of death every other week now. I have called HP customer service 4 times to try and resolve these issues, nothing has helped. I have sent this PC in for repairs twice. The second time, they sent it back saying that they found nothing wrong but when I turned the computer on the issue was still clearly happening. I probably just got a lemon, which is fine, but the lack of help to resolve this is the main problem. My warranty is nearly up and this computer seems to have been a huge waste of time and money.

Bought this computer so I could stream on it and have gotten a few PC games through other services. The most demanding titles struggle to run, such as Battlefield 5 and Subnautica, especially while streaming. From other reviews, I was expecting better and the promotion through AMD with this purchase didn't work.
