I've had this computer for about 5 months and so far I've had no big problems. I've had a few small problems but nothing that makes it un-usable or even much of a problem. pros: can run pretty much any game with decent graphics if not the best graphics for that game( i haven't had a game where i'm not able to run at at least medium graphics) small and can fit pretty much anywhere on or bellow your desk but the size doesn't effect the quality of the computer. graphics card, CPU, motherboard are all great and run very smoothly. cons: the first problem i had was that my computer would overheat and i would have to take the case off and let is cool down, but after a bit it stopped doing it unless i leave it on all day but all computers overheat if you leave them on all day. the next one isn't a necessary "con" but i would have changed it, this is the price, i bought this computer when it was on sale for $600, i think a good price for this machine would be $700-$775 I think $830 is a bit much but it is also one of the cheapest gaming computers out there and for what your getting considering its one of the cheapest is a great deal. my next "con" is the look, I think it would be great if it was possible to customize the color of the leds on the front of the machine because with just green you really need a more green themed setup and i already had a mixture of colors so the computer doesn't really fit in. overall this computer is great for someone that is semi new to pc gaming or someone that has no experience with pc gaming, so the only reason this isnt a 5 star is the fact that it isnt a $2000 computer that can run every game perfectly, it is a great computer for gaming and also just being a computer, all though if you are looking for a normal pc just for small things like browsing google or writing things i would suggest a less expensive computer that is made for those things.

HP - Pavilion Gaming Desktop 690-0024 - AMD Ryzen 5-Series - 8GB Memory - AMD Radeon RX 580 - 1TB Hard Drive + 128GB Solid State Drive - Shadow Black With A Brushed Hairline Pattern First, I'm impressed with the appearance and size. It's only 13.5" high so you can position it in a lot of configurations, even on a desktop if you like. The brushed, black exterior is attractive along with the ambient green lighting down the center front. On the front, it has the power switch, headphone jack, card reader, two USB-A 3.1 ports, one USB-C 3.0 port, and the DVD burner/reader. On the back, it has 3 DPI ports and 1 HDMI port out of the GPU card. It also has 4 USB-A 3.1 ports and 2 USB-A 2.0 ports. There are plenty of ports for peripherals to include multiple monitors and anything else you want. In addition, you'll find an Ethernet port and 3 sound ports. The CPU is a Ryzen 5 2400G, which offers good performance with integrated RX Vega 11 graphics in case your GPU goes down. By the way, even gaming using the RX Vega 11 integrated graphics is good. The GPU is a Radeon RX 580 with 4GB RAM onboard, which is an upper middle of the road graphics card. The HP Gaming Desktop 690-0024 comes with 8GB of GDDR4 RAM but you can install up to 32GB RAM. It also comes with a 128GB PCIe NVMe SSD and a 1TB SATA HD @7200 RPM. It has a 400w power supply. The tower also comes with a wired keyboard and a wired optical mouse. There is no internal speaker so you will need to add speakers of your choice for sound. For a tower, it runs cool and quiet while doing normal office work. With the Ryzen 5 and the RX 580, you can do very intensive work (video/photo editing, CAD work, Photoshop etc.) with no slowdowns or hiccups. It will handle whatever you throw at it. As far as gaming goes, I've been running Fallout 4 at max settings in all categories, and I'm getting 60 to 140 FPS (frames per second), which means everything runs fast and smooth with no jerking or slowdowns. While Fallout 4 isn't the most intensive game on the market, it does require quite a bit in resources to run fulltime at the framerates mentioned above. Keep in mind that this isn't the cutting edge of game playing tech, BUT it is a very good device for almost any game you want to play. Cutting edge tech comes with a price - a minimum of twice what this unit costs but more likely 3 or 4 times what this unit costs. For people wanting to be able to do any sort of graphics intensive work and run really nice games, this machine won't disappoint you. When gaming it will produce more heat, but the multiple fans built-in handle it with no issue. Even with the fans spinning up more running games, the fan sound is not annoying and, for me, is just a little background sound that is not a problem at all. This device is definitely on the lower end of sound when running intensive tasks, unlike too many others where fan noise is excessive and a problem in most environments. I might mention here that if you prefer a more powerful CPU and/or GPU, the motherboard will accept upgrades. Overall, this gaming desktop unit is a powerful device for the price. It will handle any sort of office work you need both quickly and smoothly. Gaming is very good! Obviously, I can't try every upper-level game available, but by the way it handles Fallout 4, there's no doubt it can handle any game you want to run. You may have to reduce settings somewhat for the biggest/baddest game, but it will be playable nonetheless. However, it will do everything you want for the vast majority of gamers and do it smoothly with no problems.

I would like to say first off, right out of the box, that after hooking up and finalizing windows I encountered several driver errors. Not really how you want to start off a brand new computer. Nonetheless, I was able to resolve all of the issues once I downloaded new driver updates. After getting through that, this computer shines pretty well. It has a cool sleek case with a green led that lights up down the center and on the power button as well. Aesthetically the keyboard and mouse are not much to look at and are pretty basic though. No backlighting on the keyboard, and it is pretty compact. For a gaming desktop I would have expected the keyboard and mouse to better match the case. Overall startup is super fast, and running any program (Even photo and video editors) are very fluid and quick. This desktop has an AMD Ryzen 5 2400G Processor which is quad core and sits at 3.6ghz which is pretty nice. It has Radeon RX580 graphics, which I assumed was the 8GB card, but instead it is the 4GB card. Regardless, it is still a nice running graphics card and handles games pretty good. You can upgrade to the 8GB graphics card if you want, but you will have to also upgrade the power supply to at least 1000w. RAM is at 8GB on this model, which I feel lacks a bit but is still good enough for most applications. Upgrading seems to be limited on RAM, and had some issues trying to find out the correct specs for upgrading as HP's spec sheet states contradicting numbers. It does come with a 1TB hard drive for storage with windows being installed on the separate 128GB Solid State Drive, which helps with faster booting and loading times. One place this computer shines is when connected to a Freesync monitor, which I highly recommend. Gaming is so fluid and precise and can game in full 1080P and also 4k when hooking up to a freesync monitor with the display port, which the computer does have multiple display port outs. One thing I am not too much a fan of is the cd tray. It has a verticle laptop tray in it, where the cd snaps into the tray itself. I find it kind of irritating but does not really take away from the overall experience. The sound output is pretty basic, and it is loaded with RealTek audio. Changing audio out sources is very nice and easy. Overall this desktop will run most of my games on high settings and even better with a freesync monitor. I rate it 4/5 stars, but I still recommend buying, as it is a very solid gaming desktop.

One of the standout features is the AMD Radeon RX 580 4GB graphics card. It delivers excellent graphics performance, providing immersive visuals and smooth gameplay. I've enjoyed playing graphic-intensive games with high settings, and the Pavilion Gaming Desktop has consistently delivered a lag-free experience.

I am comparing this against a 1st gen Ryzen 7 1700 based computer from last year. This computer this year features the 2nd gen Ryzen 5 2400G. The video card in the two machines is the same model, but this one from this year has 4 GB of GPU ram and the one from last year has 8 GB of GPU ram. They both have SSD of various sizes for OS and Games, and a traditional hard drive for storage. Well, the year old Ryzen 7 machine with double the ram on the same Graphics card is performing slightly better in games, both due to the slightly better (even 1st gen vs 2nd gen) model CPU and the double RAM on the same GPU. It also lags behind the older computer when it comes to multi tasking with several intensive programs running at the same time. But, it still does game well, and it is a bit cheaper than the system from a year ago. I would not hesitate to recommend this for a pre-built gaming computer for the general public, its GPU and CPU are fairly well matched up, and while it won't run the newest intensive games at max settings and insanely high fps, it will get the job done for almost any game at medium settings and 1080P gaming, and ultra settings for most games that are a year or two old. I would match with a good 1080P AMD Freesync capable monitor like the HP 25x, so you can have refresh at 144 hz. That and the green led accents will match. The keyboard and mouse that it comes with are very basic and both corded usb devices. I would suggest finding replacements for those that suit your needs and tastes. I paired mine with an Alienware gaming keyboard and mouse I could match the green colors with. Alienware gaming products, the colors are selectable, on this HP desktop and the HP 25x, the colors are set to be green.

I was shocked at the size of this guy first opening up the box. Most gaming PC's have very large cases but not here. Super quiet also. Get the updates done asap as well as the BIOS and video card. If you are a gamer then the included keyboard and mouse are worthless in my opinion, not sure why they would even toss those in the box. This machine is very quiet even torqued out and maxing all settings. Paird with the HP 25x it's a sweet setup and looks great. I've always stayed clear of AMD but this rig has sold me. The chips play well together and for a pre built machine I don't think you could go wrong for the money. This would be a great entry level out of the box PC for that new gamer in your life. Paired with a good monitor, headset and upgraded mouse and keyboard you won't be dissapointed.

I've had this PC for 6 years now. Haven't had to reinstall WIndows yet. But plan to do so soon. I will be installing a retail version as I think there is a bit of HP bloatware. We will see. Overall, it has been an outstanding PC. I put it through it's paces daily and nothing has ever failed or let me down. I usually build my own person computers, so this was a first and it was well worth it. Good on ya HP.

ok so heres my honest review, i waited 4 months before i gave my opinion on this HP gaming rig....Its very fast, its snappy and you dont have to wait wile pages load, its instantaneous, boot up time is roughly 7-10 seconds from when you press the power button. Gaming is excellent at 1080p gaming at mid to high settings, when playing Black ops 2 at High settings i play at 144hz refresh rate....However with this setup/Pc i would highly recommend you pair this computer with a 144hz gaming monitor preferably freesync capable...im using HP 144hz monitor that is a good match for gaming. highly recommend!

Got this machine. Looks nice, size isn't extremely large. Hook up is very simple as with any other PC. With the upgraded video card they did block off the original ports so no confusion there. The dual HDD's(1xSSD and 1xSpindle) work well and provide a very quick boot up. I although don't like the multiple partitions that OEMs make. I used the machine for a couple weeks and would intermittently get some slow downs. Investgation showed that memory utilization was about 90% peaks. The machine has 8GB but this is all on 1 chip and thus Single channel. I added another 8GB and setup Dual channel. It has been working great. Although it is now MAXED out. Overall I would rate this machine a good build but limited in it expansion options. It does in my opinion REQUIRE the memory upgrade to be stable and no lag.

This pc is incredibly good at running pretty much any modern game I’ve played with it. It’s a great pc for getting into gaming if you want better performance than console but not too crazy. My only problem is the cooling, the gpu can run prettttty hot when it comes to some games, but I haven’t experienced any problems caused by it. Overall, great value!

On paper this machine should be suitable for just about every game out there on high settings @1080p, but my experience with it proves otherwise. All the game I've tried to play have come out in the past couple years. Games like COD WW2, Black Ops4, Monster Hunter, Forza, etc. This PC struggled with every one of them except Monster Hunter. I would let the game auto detect graphics settings, and try to play. The game play would be horribly choppy, and I kept losing video signal. The screen would go black, as if the game had crashed, but I could still hear the the sounds in the background. After a couple seconds it would come back on, and I could continue playing. Lowering all the settings to low helped a little with the stuttering, but the games looked terrible and they were still pretty much unplayable. I know there is nothing wrong with the monitor. It's a brand new HP 25x, which works perfectly on my main gaming PC. I Googled the monitor losing signal while gaming issue, and to my amazement, this seems to be a fairly common issue with AMD cards. I tried every suggested fix that I could, but to no avail. Thinking it might be a bad GPU, I installed the RX 580 into my main PC to test my theory, but it ran like a champ. I was able to play everything at high/highest settings with steady high frame rates, excellent detail, and best of all, no monitor signal loss. Another theory I had was possibly a throttling issue. I installed MSI Afterburner and proceeded to monitor temps and speed. There was no indication of throttling, but I did find out that the 2400G and RX 580 run hot. They tend to get up in the low 80's Celcius, while playing games. The case is not very airflow friendly, so I'm pretty sure that has something to do with the high temps. Taking the side panel off lowered temps about 5 C, but didn't help with the stuttering. I then tried swapping the RAM from my PC into the HP, giving it 16 GB's of DDR4-3200 RAM to work with. It only detected at 2166, and there's no option in the bios to change it, but it now had double the RAM running in dual channel. This did not help, but I have read that AMD CPU's need the higher speed RAM to operate correctly, So maybe I need another 8 GB 2666 stick. AMD's website for this processor says in the specifications that it should be running at 2933, so maybe there is an issue there. I also uninstalled everything that wasn't Windows or gaming related, including anti virus. No change. I've update the bios and all the drivers, and still no improvement. So now I'm scratching my head. Maybe it's a bad power supply or possibly the CPU, a motherboard? I don't know, but I have wasted enough time on this PC. I can not recommend it as is right now.

This is a great buy for the casual gamer. I have installed and played several games on it so far and everything runs well (Kerbal Space Program, Universim, etc.). The boot time is fast with the SSD and all of the applications perform well. I have the PC in my office and it is paired with the HP LED FHP monitor; which looks very nice. The small size of desktop means it fits well on my desk. At first I was a bit skeptical about the keyboard and mouse that come with it, but so far I have enjoyed using them. I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone!

I would've given this 5 stars based on the sale price I bought this PC at. But, the CPU and the GPU run pretty hot. I do understand that the temps are within the manufacturer's range but I feel that 80-90 Celsius is dangerously high. Besides that, it runs nicely. I've been playing DQ11 at 1080p,settings at high, getting a solid 50-60 FPS. If you catch it on sale grab it before it's gone, although it isn't a bad deal at $700-800.

This System has an issue which I didn't realize for several months. The BIOS was reserving 1 gb of system ram for the integrated Vega 11 graphics through the 2400G processor, which the motherboard doesn't even support, the integrated graphics that is. You cannot removed the dedicated graphics card and use the integrated graphics instead. AFTER a more recent BIOS update the amount of system RAM that is now taken away is up to 2 GBs of RAM, making only 5.9 GBs of System RAM available for use by the computer. HP needs to release a BIOS update to reduce it to 64 kilobytes, I'd be happy with that. :) Until a BIOS fix is released, this is a crippled system. VR is not happy with it as is, particularly Oculus. The best thing to do is to add another 8 GB system memory card in the empty slot. For one, you will get another 8 GB of system memory to be used, and second, system memory will be running in dual channel mode with the processor, which is better performance wise.
