    Good performance, questionable build quality

TL;DR Upgrade the storage and you'll have a pretty capable, very portable machine with okay battery life. It's a decent laptop for a student on a budget (make sure you account for the cost of an SSD). Just don't expect it to last more than 2-3 years. I have owned this laptop for about four months. I would not recommend buying it without upgrading the storage to an SSD. I swapped the HDD out the day I bought it and there was still a noticeable increase in speed even though I did not do any major tasks with the stock drive. Regarding performance, I have not had any issues running half a dozen tabs on Chrome with Word, OneNote, Spotify, and AirDroid running. I have had no issues with stability. No blue screens or frozen programs. It doesn't get very hot either, although that fan can push a lot of air if you're doing heavy workloads (but it's not loud). The biggest concern is the build quality. The entire device feels flimsy. Press down next to the trackpad, and it will depress a couple millimeters. Press in the middle of the bottom and you can feel it give too. The entire chassis will flex with almost no pressure and the display flexes more than any other part of the laptop. The entire laptop feels like they used plastic that is just a little bit too thin. There are also fairly large gaps around each key and the trackpad. Keep a can of compressed air handy, because you will get dust and lint stuck around the keys. At least you can blow the dust out of the keyboard, though. I'm looking at you, Apple. Also, the speaker cutouts above the keyboard gets dust stuck in it too. It always will. They have this weird geometric design for the speaker cutouts and just helps dust get stuck in there more easily because it acts like a funnel. The sloping edges on both sides of the keyboard also funnel dust (and the occasional beard hair) into the keyboard. The hinges are slightly looser than when I bought it, but I haven't had any problems with it wobbling severely. I may just need to tighten a few screws. The keyboard is relatively comfortable to type on. There is decent key travel. If you are sick of lighter laptops having almost no discernible travel, this will make you much happier. It is a little too springy for my taste, but that is better than too mushy. I can type pretty fast on it. It's actually great for taking notes at school, although it is a little loud (not as loud as the newer MacBook keyboards, though). The build quality strikes again, though. The keys wobble a lot. Like, a whole lot. They feel very loose. I don't notice is too much when I am typing quickly, but it does annoy me. The slightly stiffer response of the keys helps to alleviate some of the annoyance from this, since there is no confusion about whether or not you actually hit the key. I did notice that some of the labels on the keys were slightly faded right out of the box. I am expecting those to be worn off within the first year. Several of the keys already have wear spots on them already, but I am in a major that requires a significant amount of writing. I would not expect that most users would see this level of wear in the first four months. With battery saver enabled, I average 5-6 hours of battery life. Never believe the manufacturer's battery rating for any laptop. Those numbers are almost always impossible to achieve. Look up third party reviews. One annoying thing is that even with a consistent workload, the estimated time remaining for the battery is never accurate. It usually says 4-4.5 hours, but I can get closer to 6 if I'm not doing any heavy browsing, have the brightness low, and stick to note-taking or using Word/Google Docs, especially if there are no programs running in the background (like a VPN). It's better than the estimated time being higher than the amount of time you actually have, but still a little annoying. If I'm nitpicking, the top-case shows a lot of smudges and fingerprints. But, the size is perfect. It fits in my backpack easily with all my textbooks and is small enough to fit on a desk or crowded table during class without the keyboard feeling cramped.

THE WORST PURCHASE YOU CAN MAKE

This item is of a super low quality. First of all, it's extremely slowly. I had an issue with the sound and wifi connection. In 2 months after the purchase the sound stopped working, the wifi connection was interrupted frequently - one moment you have it and another minute you don't have it. I have 5 other devices at home and none of them has any issues with the internet connection. So even if I disconnect them all from wifi, this laptop still loses connection. I was trying to get my money back. BestBuy refused. I sent this stupid laptop to HP and they fixed the issue with the sound. But the issue with wifi is still here. Now they want me to purchase a special wifi adapter($50 more!) for this laptop. Are you kidding on me? Who needs a laptop which can't be easily connected to the internet? Again, I have another HP laptop, which is older than this one and there is no issues with wifi or any other issues. I am so unhappy about this purchase! Literally, I just want to cry because I needed a new laptop for my work. And I can't work now. Plus this one is heavy, it's not lightweight as they say. It is simply absolutely terrible.

The specs are impressive - 8gb and an 8th gen i3 processor with 500gb storage are a no brainier for this price point. The smaller screen size is perfect for my daughter as she enters college. Its very lightweight and easy to carry. We breezed through setup and uninstalled all the bloat, with ease. I'm impressed with the speed of this laptop, and was holding out for something with these specs and price point. Glad I waited as this is a brand new release from HP. The keyboard actually feels great - not cheap or clicky at all. Touchscreen is perfect and responsive and the fact it converts into a tablet is a big bonus. Only thing this doesn't have is a backlit keyboard, but that's just fine for her use. This is our 3rd Envy 360 in the family, and so far with each one we've been overly impressed and satisfied. Seriously impressed at the speed in which this thing moves along. Attributing this to the 8th Gen Intel coupled with 8gb of ram. Buy it! You'll love it.

I have had this computer for less than 3 months when the corner of the case started to separate from the screen. I pushed it back into place and my screen cracked. I then contacted "Customer Service" and they stated that the factory warranty did not cover cracks, drops or water damage. But since it was not something I did and I did not drop it and it was obviously a defect of the computer it should be covered. I was then told that I could send it back and I could pay for it and it would cost me $620 dollars which is more than the computer cost in the first place. The other option I was told I could do I could buy just the screen for $250 dollars and have a local computer place replace it. Not something I was interested in because I have had other issues with before. So, if you are reading this negative review take it to heart and buy a different computer. If I could give it no stars I would.

My wife & I both bought a identical laptop and they have both been sufficient and just what we needed! We knew exactly what we needed when we bought these laptops after doing some research. Meanwhile, the Best Buy salesman tried downplaying the processor level, he believed we needed to spend $4-$500 all together to get a “good” laptop. After explaining to the salesman all we would be using the laptops for would be the basics...Emails, photos, Microsoft, internet surfing he still persisted. We went with what we researched and bought two of these laptops and have been very pleased! My advice, do your research and know how much laptop you need. If you are needing a laptop for the basics like us, this is the one to buy!

I bought this HP because I was attending TGPS class for transitioning from the Navy and it a helluva lot less expensive than the equivalent Microsoft surface, and don't even think about apple products. This is not a gaming computer to be sure, but if you are in need of something to send and receive emails, watch movies, look for jobs, write resumes, and general computing you cannot go wrong with this one. Add on the fact that it has touch screen controls that are as responsive as a tablet and that it can fold and just be a tablet is a major plus, combine that with it does not take up a lot of real estate on a desk makes this a great idea for any students that you are shopping for. Both of these features at this price point is amazing.

Hi I have bought two Laptops so far this summer for Back to School period. This one has a great price and a lot of features and my boy loved it immediately. Nevertheless I have to confess that I bought it for the price. The screen it's not the best and the HDD speed is awful, at best. I can live with the screen but not with the speed so I bought an SSD of the same size 500GB, and now its flying!!! It's an easy process just buy the disk, perform an System Image from Windows to an USB Drive and create a Bootable USB Disk. Remove the old drive, put the new one in and boot from the bootable USB drive. Look for System Image Restore in the the Windows 10 recovery and start the process. Speed won't be an issue anymore.

Im a college student and I’ve used this laptop for about 6 months now. It gets the job done.... most of the time.... it’s slow and it DEFINITELY has issues staying connected/connecting to WiFi. When you charge it, the little fan is SUPER LOUD to the point I actually get looks in class by the people around me. It takes forever to update as well but you get what you pay for. Screen is sensitive, accidentally bumped it too hard and the screen cracked and the touchscreen stopped working so I had to pay to get it fixed. Again, it gets the job done but don’t expect high speed actions and great WiFi connectivity. Do expect loud fans so charge it at home.

I purchased this as a gift for my girlfriend's birthday. She is a crafter, focusing on work with yarn and painting. I chose this because it was a relatively inexpensive option with touch and stylus capabilities. Along with photoshop, it's given her a new way to work with patterns before committing to a project. In that area, it's performed admirably and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for something inexpensive for a crafty type. It lost a star because it has frozen while running photoshop. It also had some trouble connecting to an old router, so I went ahead and paid for a new router as well. You get what you pay for in terms of stability and optimization.

This would be a 4 except that we got the laptop to be used with sound editing equipment and software so we exchanged it for the next product level of in the 360 series with an i5 processor. Another issue was that the new unit had a Solid State drive, which is quicker for booting etc. While that drive is only a quarter the size of this unit, we are not going to use the much greater space of this unit so we got the speed without being hurt by the trade-off. Overall, we got much the same product but it was much more useful for not that much more. I would recommend this laptop for those that do not need the i5 processor (most should not) and need more space than quick booting for a drive.

I BOUGHT THIS TABLET TO USE FOR WORK, I DO HOME HEALTH CARE, I NEED SOMETHING DEPENDABLE THAT I CAN CONNECT TO THE INTERNET TO FILL OUT MY ASSESSMENTS, I'VE ONLY HAD THIS TABLET 30 DAYS AND HAVE ALREADY A LOT OF ISSUES SUCH AS IT IS NOW EXTREMELY SLOW ON BOOT UP, MY WIFI DRIVER/ HARDWARE IS HAVING ISSUES AND I CANT TAKE IT BACK BECAUSE ITS BEEN OVER 15 DAYS, I THOUGHT FOR THE PRICE AND THE FACT THAT IT WAS HP THIS WOULD BE A GOOD INVESTMENT, NOT EVEN CLOSE. I EVEN BOUGHT THE BAMBOO PEN TO GO WITH IT BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WOULD WORK WITH THIS TABLET, SOMETIMES IT DOES SOMETIMES IT DONT. THE MOUSE PAD HAS STOPPED WORKING AND THEN STARTS TO WORK AGAIN. I WISH I WOULDVE BOUGHT SOMETHING ELSE.

The HP Pavilion x360 is a versatile laptop and tablet in one device with touchscreen. There are many options and price points depending on storage, ram, processor, etc. I am completely satisfied with mine so far. I chose 8GB RAM and 500 GB HD with the 8th gen Intel core i3 processor. This is sufficient for me, but if you are video editing, gaming, etc, you'll want an upgraded version. For work, school and general internet browing, this is a great option. It also works with capacive touch stylus pens that can be purchased separately. These are great for writing and drawing in tablet mode. Mine has a 14" screen which is the perfect size for me.

Open and close is awesomely fast for a core i3. Charging only take s less than 2 hrs amazingly fast. Thank you for the 8 GB RAM is much needed from the older models. I have an 11.6" 4gb ram model N3710 CHIPSET it was good for awhile but now that I use 11.6" as backup and I am thinking of getting a second one for personal and/or business use while the model I have now the 14inch 8gb ram is video streaming. LOW ON BUDGET I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS AS A STARTER COMPUTER DEFINITELY you can always add a flash drive, a 4 port hub, sd cards with mini card slots for extra memory storage for on the go portability for you music videos movies, photos etc

This box is more than I really need. I explained at length to the salesman what I was after and he suggested this as my best fit[!?] a couple of weeks after purchase I discovered I probably could have done very well with a Chrome book or tablet. The computer is very fast, but I am extremely tired of all of the useless icons on this box. I'd love to delete about 90% but there doesn't seem to be a way. Most of them are for games or "offers" as in 'buy this'. Windows 10 is far to dense for about 90% of the users out there. Wish XP was still available. Not sure why HP insists on having the touch pad off center. Doesn't seem very ergonomic. All in all not the best sales/equipment experience I've ever had, but options are extremely limited here in northern MI.

I've always used HP computers and laptops and when I broke my last one, I knew I had to get another HP. The silver is so stunning and the layout itself is gorgeous! This 2-in-1 is light, accessible, and versatile all the way around! Set-up was incredibly easy and fast. Although I don't use 2-in-1s much, this one is definitely great for the price. I feel like you get a lot for the price of this laptop. Also, the touchscreen is a plus. My previous HP was a touchscreen and there is no way I'd ever go back to a traditional laptop after these. Overall, definitely a laptop to spend your money on! :)

I’m a student and I got this computer for school since I do my essays and timed tests online. The first month I purchased this computer the sound of the computer stopped working out of nowhere and then I had to get it fixed. After getting it fixed, 3 months later, some of the keyboard letters are not working! I take my timed tests and do essays on this computer and I can’t complete my work with the keyboards not working! I regret ever purchasing this computer. It’s slow and low quality so don’t waste your time.

My review is after 2 weeks of ownership and like the header says so far so good. For what I got I am really enjoying this lap top. I use it for school and to stream movies and music. It has excelled at all three so far, The speakers are great and the design is fantastic! I bought this one specific so I could watch movies while I travel, something I do a lot, and I can invert and place in the headrest and Boom! my own movie studio!! Anyways the only thing that I am not liking is the start up time which is lengthy, not sure if it is the model or just mine but it takes a few minutes

So we went to buy laptops for my twins for college. My son decided on a MacBook Air and my daughter on this HP. When we got home I began setting them up starting with the HP. As it was starting I booted the Air. I had both laptops side by side and the Air was done being setup in under 5 mins. The HP went another 10+. Afterwards my daughter started telling me just how slow this machine was. I got on it for a bit and was shocked at the speed and how long everything took to process (also it was filled with bloatware when I set it up). I use an HP for work but the ones sold to consumers at the low end are just not fast machines. Needless to say I took it back today and got her an Air which she loves.

After 3 hour talking with hp customer service they reinstalled windows, asked me to buy a software assistance package... of course I refused since the laptopo is still under warranty. hp fixed both problems that day but after few weeks audio problem is still there. calling again hp...already 1 hour in the phone ...still not able to talk with a rapresentative....

but my old one, about 3 years old, began to die and the the battery was beginning to swell. I took it in for repairs and found that would cost as much as a new computer, so VERY reluctantly picked out this new one. I did not like that, even with insurance, transferring my data from old computer would cost me $99!! There are many things that do not transfer and I did lose a lot of things that I would rather have kept!! The computer itself is good and am getting used to it, though missing many things I had saved. Hope this one lasts longer----
