Overall I like this computer. It is light weight and easy to carry. O don't especially like the detachable screen. I don't think I need it but I like how it works as a computer and tablet.

I planned to buy a Surface but the very knowledgeable salesperson showed me the HP that was on sale. There was no extra cost for the keyboard, etc. like there would have been with a Surface and it has worked great for me. I previously had a Surface.

Overall, this is a great convertible computer, with lots of power and options. There are a few small quirks, but none of them deal breaking by any means. What's in the box: The tablet/computer, attachable keyboard, active pen, charger, leather carrying case and a usb-c to usb-a dongle. Features: Very high quality and resolution screen, front and back cameras, stereo forward facing speakers, detachable aluminum keyboard with trackpad, and a new HP active pen. Initial setup is easy with Cortana walking you through the whole thing. Build quality: Excellent. Everything feels sturdy while being light. The keyboard is aluminum and backlit, and the computer itself is built of aluminum and has a bronze colored kickstand that comes out to help keep it in "laptop" mode. Use: The computer is very fast, turns on as quick as any other tablet running stripped down tablet software, while running full blown windows 10. The pen works out of the box, all you do is add batteries (with some quirks...more in the cons section below). You can lock your computer, and unlock it using facial recognition. When it works (more below), it is very quick and easy. The keyboard attaches via a magnet, and is easy to attach/detach, and the computer knows when it is attached, and will change windows to the correct settings (tablet/full windows mode) automatically. The touch screen is very responsive, and the graphics are clear. Sound is very good for a convertible computer, but not the greatest either. Expect it to be tinny, but better than I expected out of something this size. This thing is actually useable as a tablet. When you detach the keyboard, it is light and useable on its own. It turns into tablet mode, and the on screen keyboard pops up when you need to type. Cons: 1. Battery life is a bit short, nothing like an ipad, but this is also a full blown computer. I have to charge it every other day or so, with a few hours of use each day. Standby mode seems to eat the battery more than a normal tablet...but like I said, this is full windows. 2. The active pen does not have any settings. The paperwork says that I can use the HP Pen setup app, but it is not installed, nor can I find it anywhere. I'm not sure what the 2 buttons do, and I can't seem to customize it at all since I don't have/can't get the app. 3. Using the device on your lap is kind of difficult as the whole setup is "floppy". While the keyboard does fold around nicely, and the kickstand is well built. It all has to balance on your lap, or things start flopping around. On a steady surface it is great, but at times it can get a bit finicky. 4. Logging in using the camera/facial recognition is finiky. When it works it is very fast, but more often than not it doesn't work. It seems to need A LOT of light to work. If it is shadowy at all, no dice. It will just say "make sure you are looking directly at the camera" or "looking for you". You then have to click "other sign on options" and type in your password. Overall: Very nice computer with a few flaws.

It’s really performing far beyond my expectation. In office I use it as my desktop, connected to a 38inch UHD monitor, on the way it perform well with high processing capacity and long lasting battery.

Thought at first I'd like the size but wish I'd gotten a larger lap top or even a full size desk top. It's not easy for me to change from computer to tablet, I can't get it to have a full size page when I read my books in kindle. Disappointing.

If you are trying to get more "bang for your buck" this is it ! Incredible performance. Either this option with the detachable keyboard or the option with the flip keyboard is a great investment. The screen is another incredible feature. Does not freeze in either pc or tablet mode. It is incredible

Full disclosure, I received an XP Spectre X2 in exchange for an honest and timely review. Bottom Line: I found the HP Spectre x2 to be a high quality product that is functional, good looking and speedy. Based on my limited experience, I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a premium quality extremely light weight, hybrid Windows tablet/laptop. Though I am primarily a user of Apple products, I was intrigued by the HP Spectre x2 because it appeared to be a very high quality and well thought out platform. Now that I have started using it, my suspicion is fully confirmed. The x2 came in a compact outer box with excellent foam padding suspending and scuring the inner box safely in the middle. The inner box, reminded me of the sort of packaging I have come to expect from Apple. It was clearly well thought out and very high quality in material and presentation. The first item in the box is the x2 tablet without the keyboard attached. The x2 is beautiful. It is sleek, well made and refined. I was amazed at how thin it is and took a photo of the x2 next to my Apple Watch. The x2 is actually a bit thinner than my watch! There is a sturdy, but nice looking kickstand on the back, a USB-C port, headphone jack and what appears to be a microSD card slot on the left side. On the right side there is a USB-C port and volume controls. B&O audio appears to be part of this system and it is rich and clear. There are small speakers on the left and right side at the top of the display. While examinin the tablet I accidentally turned it on and was greeted by Cortana. The digital assistant was actually very helpful in walking me through the initial setup of the x2. Make sure you are not in a place that requires silence when you start up the x2 for the first time. I didn’t need the keyboard for the first part of the setup, so I pulled it out and attached it part way through. The process was trivial. The x2 attaches to the keyboard pretty much identically to how the iPad Pro keyboard attaches, but without the awkward folding required on the iPad Pro keyboard. However, the x2 keyboard is much nicer. It is backlit and has keys that are more like those on a MacBook. It also has a decent trackpad. It is a real keyboard, not a near-keyboard that many tablets have. As I type this, I’m on a screen porch at 9:00PM with low light and the keyboard is fully lit and very easy to use. I already had a Microsoft account and Office 365 subscription, so getting up and running was extremely fast for me. My OneDrive files all appeared after I installed Office. This latter experience is what I have come to know and love on the Apple platforms and I really enjoyed that same experience on the x2. I placed my iPad Pro next to the x2 and found them quite similar in size and weight. The x2, as I’ve said, has a much nicer keyboard and a trackpad. As a result, the x2 keyboard also sticks out a lot farther from the display, so it might not fit as well on the little fold down table in a coach airplane seat. However, that the only downside I could see. It is very nice. The display is very bright, colorful and very high resolution…very crisp. It is lovely. There are front and back cameras on the x2. In low light the front camera seemed a bit marginal, but during the setup I was prompted to use my face as my login credentials, so it is clearly good for that purpose as well as Skype, etc. I haven’t used it during full sun yet. The x2 appears to come with a trial subscription to McAfee LiveSafe. I was prompted to allow HP to connect me to McAfee which I allowed. Very quickly McAfee was up and running. The x2 has a 7th generation i7 processor and it is very responsive. I haven’t run any true benchmarks, but the real-feel is great for general use. Next morning… The facial recognition worked very well in full light today. It is humorous to open the laptop and be greeted by recognition. My MacBook Pro unlocks via connection to my watch, so the experience for me is very similar, but with facial recognition, you don’t need to own the watch and you always have it with you (short of an accident or bad hair day). I checked my printers and found my HP M477fdw MFP was already set up. I don’t recall if I was prompted to connect to this last night or if Windows just connected automatically. Either way, it was very convenient. The trackpad is generally very good. It is handles both touch gestures and physical depressions. I have to be careful about touching the pad before I take actions that are sensitive to where the cursor is positioned because it is easy to move the cursor without intending to do so. In terms of general functionality, one finger moves the cursor, two fingers scrolls the page. Depressing (or double-tapping) the pad is a left-click unless you use the lower right corner of the touchpad, when it is a right-click. The only odd behavior is the top edge of the touchpad which required more force to achieve a click. The middle and bottom seem more responsive. The function keys all look fairly standard. The one key that seemed like it was new and improved is F12 which has the icon of an airplane on it and turns on airplane mode as you would expect. Handy! I installed Axis Camera Companion (one of the few apps I must run on Windows). I forget about the Windows progress bar for installations, since I do so few and the Mac installs are instantaneous, but even the normally tedious progress bar sped through very quickly and I was up and running fast. I looked at my camera feeds. I have some 4K cameras and I could see the finest detail very crisply. Very nice!

I researched different 2 in 1 tear offs and I FINALLY decided that the HP Spectre X2 was the right choice for me. I felt that if I bought the MS Surface Pro I would be paying for the brand and getting less of a computer.

I have to admit, I felt like I was being inducted into James Bond villainy as I was opening the inner box. The outside box is what you would expect, corrugated cardboard. The inner box, however, is a smooth, fancy black topped box with "SPECTRE" emblazoned in silver on the top. I had one annoyance at the very beginning. In my haste to unwrap or peel plastic off of everything, I removed the sticker from the Stylus and it resulted in my having to apply rubbing alcohol to remove the sticker residue from the stylus. Otherwise, the system performs very well. Comparing Specs to Price, the Spectre x2 beats the new Microsoft Surface Pro 4. The Spectre x2 packs in over 1 million more pixels in its display, and gives you over 100 GB more SSD storage space with a price tag that's $200 less. Plus the Spectre x2 includes a professional looking vinyl sleeve, a keyboard and a USB-C to USB-A adapter. All of which are separate accessories on the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, making the price difference even wider. I'm disappointed that the Spectre only has 2 USB-C ports and an audio jack. I would like at least 1 USB-A port. I've played with previous Surface tablets at work and I was annoyed by the slowness of those devices with their M-type processors and with their near constant fan noise. I was concerned that the 8GB of RAM would starve the Spectre x2's i7 processor, but I have yet to see the Tablet really struggle with performance (probably because the SSD runs quickly). The fan comes on rarely. Pen input is very responsive. The stylus has 2 buttons, one for left mouse click, the other for erase. I kinda liked the Surface pen more because of the button on top that simulated an eraser when used on the screen and double-clicking it would open up OneNote. But I'm sure I can find the setting to allow me to open OneNote quickly with either of these buttons. The keyboard is pretty solid. It does not seem flimsy like the Microsoft Surface keyboards. The Spectre x2's touchpad is large. My 2.5 year old work laptop has a touchpad smaller than my palm. So it's been quite the adjustment for me to the touchpad on the Spectre x2 which I would guess provides 50% more width. I find myself clicking in the wrong place when trying to do a right-click. Clicking in my previous Surface experiences have felt a little shallow, but the Spectre x2's click travel feels very nice. Aesthetically, HP has done a good job. The case has a dark coffee color to it and is accented with a dark golden kickstand and HP logo. I wasn't a fan at first of the look of the texture on the underside of the keyboard, but it provides substantial grip on a table or in your hand. The kickstand has at least a 150 degree range of motion and feels solid the whole time. It features a magnetic closure, so you never have to worry about it flipping out if you're carrying it wrong. I also like that the speakers are front facing and produce good sound with the Bang & Olufsen name behind it. Overall, this tablet is a solid performer with well thought, sleek looks.
