Constant Issues

I always get my laptops from Best Buy because they have great deals and customer service but last year there were issues with all of the laptops that I purchased, including this one. I think all the issues are related to windows 10 updates. This laptop had blue screens, flickering, mouse/keyboard issues. I mostly use it for school and work. I had to do a system recovery 3 times which was only a temporary fix. I got it back from geek squad, did all the updates and flickering came back so I sent it in again and apparently it didn't even power on so they replaced the motherboard. Ran all the updates as recommended and again the screen flickering came back, even with the replaced LCD panel and motherboard! Then, I sent it to HP and finally after about 1 month of total repair time I get it back with the same flickering but now it also has a screen freeze and new blue screen issue. I expected more, especially given the price. The HP case manager is attempting to replace the laptop and is scheduled to get back to me. I hope HP corrects these issues in the newer models. Always buy geek squad protection, this is the first time I did not and I regret it because I have to rely on HP. Hopefully Best Buy can help if HP doesn't fall through considering all my purchases and issues in the past year. I would not recommend the x2 to anyone. Maybe try x360 but if you want to be safe, just get a mac

CONSTRUCTION: Very Good - No squeaks or rattles and even the keyboard is substantial. The magnets are strong and hold the tablet and keyboard together well. It even has a nice backlit keyboard and a caps lock light. Included is the pen and a sleeve for the computer.
DOCUMENTATION: There is a very good 61 page User Guide available as a PDF at HP Help & support on the computer (HP Documentation). The User Guide says it has a fan and it is OK to fold the keyboard back against the Tablet. There is also a Safety Warning Notice that says not to place the computer directly on your lap or to obstruct Air Vents. Under normal use, the tablet only gets mildly warm on the upper back. But during Performance tests and heavy graphics use like some of my Flight Simulators or Asphalt 8, the upper back gets HOT. If you use it like a tablet and hold it at the bottom sides, they are not too hot, but the top back is too hot to hold under these conditions.
The pen works well on the screen and responds to pressure. I don’t normally use a pen, so I can’t comment on how well it works. The pamphlet that comes with the pen says that the buttons on the pen can be viewed by using the pen app, such as HP Pen Control. I could not find that App anywhere on the computer.
SPECS: 8GB RAM, 360GB SSD hard disk, 2,000 x 3,000 pixel IPS screen, Intel Core I7-7560U @ 2.40GHZ CPU. Weight - 2 lbs, 9 oz, (Tablet=1 lb,11 oz; Keyboard=13 oz)
PERFORMANCE: Overall, very good. It would run everything that I have used from the Microsoft store on all my other computers very well. YouTube videos showed very well (both pictures and sound) on the beautiful 2,000 x 3,000 pixel screen.
Passmark 9.0 Performance scores: Overall=3261.9, CPU Mark=5944.8, 2D Graphics=547.3, 3D Graphics=1859.1, Memory=2327.9, Disk Mark=7847.9. For a Laptop, these are very good scores
I like that it has a external charge light (White=charged, Orange=charging, Blinking white=Low Battery. And the charging transformer and cord are very long.
PROBLEMS: I could not get it to recognize a new 64GB SD card. But the card worked in
another Windows computer with a regular SD card slot.
OVERALL: When I first got this computer, I was not too impressed. I found the kickstand hard to put in position and a little sharp on my knees. The more I have used this computer, the better I like it. It has a great screen, a fast processor, and a very nice, backlit keyboard. Compare this total package for the price - I think you will like it.

Almost Perfect competitor to Surface Pro series

I'm not going to go into detail in this review, as many have done excellent reviews, such as (Sixshot), which helped me make my decision to purchase.
I purchased to replace a Surface Pro 4, whose screen mysteriously cracked a day after the new line of Surface Pro series was released. I then looked for more affordable alternatives. The HP Spectre X2, compared favorably and even beat the SP Pro (2017) in many categories.
My purchased HP Spectre X2 configuration:
i7, 8GB, 360 GB SSD, Black.
Pros:
1. This is a beautifully crafted alternative to the 2017 Microsoft Surface Pro(5?). Build quality is exceptional.
2. latest 7th Generation Kaby Lake processors. Very slight speed increase over my i7, 8GB Surface pro 4. For Example launching the same program on both netted the HP Spectre X2 2 seconds faster load time. Startup time on the Spectre X2 (2017) is phenomenal with less than 10 seconds boot time.
3. The Keyboard attaches the same as Surface Pro 4 but has a slightly higher typing angle. The keyboard has a black smooth surface on top with textured rubber on bottom, which I prefer over the Surface Pro 4.
4. the copper colored Kickstand actually suprised me, as I thought it would be a pain, as it's open compared to the all enclosed Surface Pro series. I now actually hold the Spectre X2 in portrait mode stabilized by wrapping my hand around the bar. It's very stable and folds nearly flat.
5. Comes with keyboard and stylus, both which are exceptional. However, the stylus does not have the eraser that I'm used to using on the Surface pro.
6. Stylus pen is the same technology an compatible with Surface Pro series (N-Trig). I can use the Surface pro 4 pen with the HP and Vice Versa.
7. USB-C ports on both sides. This is both a plus and minus, as it requires me to use a dongle to adapt to standard USB-A peripherals. however, the dongle is included and very small dongles can be purchased that make it look as if it's part of the device. Charger can be plugged on either side.
8. Very fast charging with HP Fast charge technology. it seems to charge 1-2% per minute. Incredibly fast charges.
9. Incredible High resolution 3000 x 2000 IPS screen. This is higher than even the 2017 Surface pro. It is also brighter than my Surface Pro 4, with vivid colors.
10. Battery life is much better than my Surface pro 4 because of the larger 41+ Whr battery and Kaby lake processor effeciency. I typically see 1-2 hour differences in use time with the HP Spectre X2.
Cons:
1. The HP is slower to recognize the pen than any Surface Pro model I've used (1,2,3 or 4). At times when I tap on the screen to surf, it takes 2-3 taps for it to register (HUGE PROBLEM), in which I almost took it back the first day. However, I found the problem to be a very slight lag as to the distance the screen takes to recognize the pen vs the Surface pro 4. If I quickly move the pen towards the Surface Pro 4 screen it always picks up the pen regardless of speed. The HP has a slightly slower pick up time, making it miss very quick taps with the stylus. I'm hoping HP can correct this with a software patch. As it is, I've had to adjust ever slightly to the delay. This can be a deal killer for some, including me.
2. very noticeable Heat on the back compared to Surface Pro 4 when using it for long periods of time or intensely. As you're using it in tablet mode, you don't really notice the gradual heating in your fingers but if you were to put it down and come back a minute or two later, you immediately notice it can get very warm. I compared the same type of use with my SP4 and the SP4 stayed cool to the touch regardless of use. Very noticeable when picking up the HP Spectre X2 after using the SP4. Again, this could be a deal breaker for some. Hopefully I have a bad unit, so I'm going to return it to see if it's better.
3. The USB-C ports are not Thunderbolt compatible. Not a big deal for me, but definitely needs to be noted for power users.
OVERALL:
I give the Spectre X2 (2017) 4 out of 5 stars, given the stylus and heat issues. However, if either of those don't bother you, the HP Spectre is a no brainer compared to the Surface Pro (2017) model just released with equivalent specs.
After several days of side by side use with my SP4, I prefer the HP Spectre overall, but I may now look to the SP Pro (2017) if the screen and heat issues are prevalent throughout the builds.

I received the HP Spectre X2 12-C012DX a few days ago and now that I have had a little time to use it seems that HP has designed a very competitive entry to the cutting edge premium 2 in 1 convertible laptop class of PC which has the Microsoft Surface Pro as the archetype.
Physically the HP X2 differs from the archetype Surface Pro's length and width only by about two tenths of an inch in one dimension and a tenth of for the other. Weight is different by only a fraction of an ounce for the tablet alone and the tablet and keyboard. Hp's choice of charging the tablet by a USB C port was something I wanted to look at when I received the X2, there have been issues with a micro USB port getting damaged on other tablets with the wear of repeatedly connecting the cable for data and charging tasks. But the USB C port HP built into the X2 is very solidly constructed and I don't see any concern. It is also convenient to be able to charge the tablet from either of the two USB C ports on opposite edges of the tablet.
I normally use an active stylus when I use a tablet for taking notes and the HP stylus provided with the tablet works perfectly for that use, and note-taking is one of the significant rationals for choosing a detachable 2 in 1 over other designs in my opinion. I didn't try the capability of the stylus to support a drawing/graphic generation task. It looks like there is full support for Windows Ink though from what is in Windows Setup, and I will explore the graphic generation aspect in the future.
The X2 with the i7 processor is not passively cooled tablet but has a fan which you can hear softly at times. Other tablets is this class device. with 7th Gen Core i7 CPU also use active cooling as far as I can tell from current reviews. Battery life seems to be about what HP claims. Battery life while Streaming Netflix video was about 4.5 hours from 100% battery charge to 20%, at a comfortable brightness and with the volume turned down to 18%, this tablet is not weak on audio output. The battery life was about 7 hours for the drop from 100% to 20% while typing this review, handling a little email and web browsing for reviews of other new tablets with the 7th Gen Core i7 CPU, (YMMV). It looks like the HP X2 starting with a full charge could last a normal business day without special measures or an AC outlet depending on usage. I haven't had a chance to test the HP claim of 50% recharge from empty in 30 minutes yet but its one of the things I'll be looking at for my own information.
The only annoyance I encountered with the X2 was the loop on the Keyboard intended to store the active stylus/pen. The loop seems like an after thought, it is made of a inelastic rubberized fabric, the loop is to small for the pen to go into, you can only clip the pen to the outside of the loop. It may just be an early production hiccup.
The HP Spectre X2 12-C012DX is a cutting edge premium 2 in 1 convertible laptop/tablet it seems an excellent value and worth serious consideration by someone in the market for a 2 in 1 convertible.

Beautiful design, solid performance

I'll start with the design. In typical HP fashion, the aesthetics really hit the mark for me. The Ash Silver aluminum frame is complemented by Gold (colored) trim.
The display is a 3000 x 2000 IPS panel with touchscreen (and a pen for good measure). Screen sharpness and intensity is very appealing to my eye, at least. The backlit keyboard attaches with magnets, and has a nice retention feel. It folds nicely and makes for a "laptop-like" look, or may be detached and used solely as a tablet.
Internal I/O is headlined by a PCI Express 3.0 SSD (aka NVM Express), which makes overall system performance really pop. This drive is approximately 3x the speed of standard SATA III SSDs, and the latency is much lower with NVMe. There are two USB 3.1 Type C ports, a headphone/mic jack, and a micro-SD slot for external I/O. Bluetooth and integrated WiFi are also included as part of the overall I/O.
Battery life is pretty reasonable given the attractive form-factor, yielding about 8 hours of use from a full charge.
This is a solidly designed product, typical of HP design standards, and given its performance should serve me well for a few years to come.

Beautiful hardware held back by software

I’ve been using a Mac for the past 7 years. Before that, I was only using Windows. The transition from Windows to Mac was difficult, but a great one. I’m currently using the 12 in. MacBook, and although not a powerhouse, its portability is one of its strengths. When I was given the opportunity to try out the X2, I was excited to see what this new computer would offer, in regards to build quality and software. My review will be separated into two sections; the Hardware and the Software.
Hardware: 9/10
This is a beautiful machine. It is light, built with great materials, and quality is excellent. This device has two USB-C ports, which I am already used to on my MacBook. I think USB-C is the future so I welcome these on the X2. The screen is vivid, bright, and responsive. The included keyboard is also great. The backlight is a surprisingly nice addition on this 2-in-1. The speakers are fine, a bit tinny and not as loud as my MacBook. It says Bang & Olufsen, but it doesn’t make a difference. It comes with a stylus, which is very nice. It is light and uses a AAA battery. The fan noise is not that loud, but it is noticeable. The fan whirs even while the computer is plugged in and sleeping. Something that I think I will never get used to is the hinge. Just having to kick it out when I want to use it in laptop mode is an extra step. Although, I will say that the hinge is strong and sturdy. I’ve used this device with the keyboard attached on my bed and, for the most part, everything holds together. Overall, the build quality of the X2 is to be expected in a high priced 2-in-1 and it does a great job living up to those expectations.
Software: 6/10
I haven’t had a dedicated Windows machine in years, but I do run Windows 7 on BootCamp on an iMac, so I do understand how Windows works. Windows 10 is a completely different monster. Out of the box, set-up was nice and easy with Cortana to guide me along. After that, it was not a great experience. One of the biggest issues I’ve encountered is Time Sync. My time was not synced correctly, even after troubleshooting. For a new machine, I do not expect an issue immediately after set up. I’ve searched for a solution, but ended up setting the time manually. Tablet mode is a little glitchy and can slow down the entire OS. There are a lot of gestures that take time to learn and remember, but are useful when navigating. Windows Hello is nice for logging on (when it works) and start-up time from when the laptop is off is fast. Something that I miss though was having dedicated apps for word processing, presentations, and spreadsheets for free out of the box (iWork Suite). Overall, Windows 10 is decent, but filled with bugs and can sometimes be a bit overwhelming.
The HP X2 is an awesome machine for people who like portability and creatives who work with a stylus and touch screen, but it is held back by an OS that still needs some refinements and simplification.

I've had the HP Spectre X2 for about 3 1/2 weeks and absolutely love it. Not counting an iPad, this is my first laptop and so far, I'm really impressed. This has a 7th generation Intel Core i7-7560U chip running at 2.4GHz, a large 360 GB SSD, 8GB of memory, 12.3 inch touch screen, built in cameras, Bang & Olufsen speakers and Bluetooth and Windows 10. It also came with an HP Active Pen which lets you highlight, write, draw or simply use as a digital stylus to eliminate fingerprints on your screen. Also included is a pleather like padded storage case with Velcro closing.
With an SSD hard drive, this computer boots up from totally off in less than 30 seconds. The screen is made of Gorilla Glass so it would take a fairly large fall to crack or break the display. It has 2 USB Type-C ports which you also plug in your charging cable to re-charge the battery. It come with one adaptor so you can plug in your mouse dongle, flash drive or an external hard drive. You'll need another USB type C adaptor though if you want to charge the laptop while using it, or having your mouse dongle plugged in. The HP dongle goes for $25.00 and up, but you can get an aftermarket one that works with flash drives, mouse dongle and hard drives for $6.99.The battery is supposed to last 8 hours, but so far my experience falls short of that.
The gold colored stainless steel "kick stand" lets you select what ever angle you want to view your screen at, weather the screen is "docked" with the keyboard or detached. The shell of this laptop is made from aluminum, so it's tough and lite. Not cheap plastic like so many thing are made from nowadays..
I have played a few movies on this while traveling and it works great. The picture is stunning. Vibrant colors and crisp and clear. The speakers, though they come from a high ends manufacturer, are so-so at the most. Good enough if you don't have headphones, but I highly recommend headphones if listening to music or watching a movie.
Overall, I'm giving this a 5 out of 5 stars even though there is not a cd drive or LAN port.
This thing is razor thin at about 7/16 of an inch thick. Being thin does have it's problems though. There is not a cd drive. You can't connect your internet directly to it as there is not a LAN port. It's Wi-Fi only.
I'm still getting use to Windows 10. My pc has Windows 7. And while I prefer 7, 10 is ok. The

David vs Goliath…A Microsoft Surface Pro Killer
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
On the surface (no pun intended), the 2017 version of HP’s Spectre X2 appears very similar to Microsoft’s 2017 Surface Pro (aka Surface Pro 5), as well as other Surface Pro clones, such as Samsung’s Galaxy Book. However, when you compare them…more specifically, the Spectre X2 vs Surface Pro…you quickly see how much HP’s new 2-in-1 convertible shines above the others. All have, essentially, the same screen size, and the same aspect ratios, but screen resolutions vary considerably – the Samsung has a 2160x1440 screen, and the Surface jumps up to 2736x1824, but the HP Spectre X2 has a Retina Display-busting 3000x2000 pixel resolution. Moving to CPU & GPU, the Galaxy Book only offers a lowly Intel Core i5-7200U & HD 620. The Spectre X2 and Surface Pro offer up to an Intel Core i7 CPU & HD 640 GPU (although it needs to be pointed out that Microsoft’s base CPU is a lowly Core m3, while HP starts at a Core i5). Unfortunately for Microsoft, if you want “extras”, such as one of the keyboard covers and/or the Surface Pen, you have to fork out additional cash…with HP’s Spectre X2, as well as Samsung’s Galaxy Book, both are included at no additional charge.
When it comes to price, Microsoft thinks they are “Apple”, charging as much for the i5 CPU/8GB RAM/256GB SSD configuration as HP is charging for the i7/8GB RAM/360GB SSD configuration. Based just on this info, the HP is already shining above the others…but, when looking at the build quality & materials, that’s when the new Spectre X2 really starts to shine. The Surface Pro looks boring. If it weren’t for the fact that it’s running Windows 10, one could mistake it for any generic 12” Android tablet…which is not only boring, it’s sad. Microsoft’s Keyboard covers are just as bad, and even feel somewhat on the cheap side. The Galaxy Book’s keyboard cover is a step up the ladder…but only one step…one website even stated “One step forward, One step back”, which is fairly accurate, as it’s just as bad as Microsoft’s keyboard covers, albeit in different ways. HP, on the other hand, went all out on their design, in terms of quality, design, and materials. On a scale of 1-10, I’d rate the Microsoft keyboard cases a 3-4, the Samsung a 5, and the HP an 7-8. Put another way, while there’s still room for improvement, HP’s keyboard case is still the best, even beating the Apple iPad Pro keyboard case.
One of the best things about HP’s new design is the stand. It is well thought out, well made, and just all-around outstanding. HP has outshined EVERYONE else (yes, that does include Apple) in their implementation of a built-in stand. Microsoft, Samsung, Apple, and others would do well to look at the Spectre X2’s stand. Lastly, I want to (lightly) touch on the color scheme. While Microsoft & Samsung both appear to be copying Apple’s iPad/iPad Pro, HP chose to go with something far more aesthetically pleasing. People will look at the new Spectre X2, and just go “WOW”. I could keep going on, providing a point-by-point comparison, but, in truth, I don’t believe there’s any need.
FINAL VERDICT:
Yes, the Microsoft Surface has a longer (claimed…but not yet proven) battery life (13.5 hrs, compared to 8 hrs with the Spectre X2), and, if battery life is all you care about, then, by all means, get yourself a Surface Pro. However, if you care about far more important things…price, build quality, materials, features, functions, etc…then, in all honesty, there’s only one realistic choice – the new HP Spectre X2. This thing is so great, I’m actually considering buying a second one for my wife, as well as a third one for my parents. I’d never really considered getting a 2-in-1 convertible, as I already had a very good gaming laptop, and didn’t need what, essentially, equates to a second laptop (ok, third, if you include the 15” MacBook Pro I have for my church). Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control, said laptop had to be replaced about a month ago, and was replaced with a desktop (although it’s an OUTSTANDING desktop, with a liquid-cooled Core i7-7700K, liquid-cooled GTX 1080, 32GB DDR4 RAM @ 3000MHz, 1TB SSD, & 2TB HDD)…and, because of said circumstances, the HP Spectre X2 makes an excellent portable computer. Would I recommend this to others? The fact that I’m considering purchasing two more should answer that question.
Disclaimer: This product was provided free, or at reduced cost, for the purpose of reviewing the product. Nevertheless, the above review, be it positive, negative, or anywhere in-between, is a 100% honest review, and the price paid played absolutely no part in my review.

HP SPECTRE X2 IS GREAT
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The HP Spectre X2 was clearly created to compete with Microsoft Surface Pro line of 2 in one computers and it is at least even in just about every way I can think of and is better than Microsoft's offerings in many ways.
First, and least importantly, the presentation and visual of the Spectre is better than the Surface. It's a well built machine that looks good on your desk or on the couch next to you. The coloring is nice and more appealing than the gray of the Surface. Also the keyboard seems to be a higher quality. One other big plus for me as far as the keyboard goes, the hair from my cat (who loves to lay on electronics) and dog wipes right off of the finish that HP put on the outside of keyboard cover. I hated how it would stick to the felt cover of the Surface keyboard.
Next, the Spectre X2 wins on value to me. While its not inexpensive, at least HP included things like the detachable keyboard, stylus/pen, a sleeve for storage, and an adapter for the USB type C ports. Microsoft makes you buy extras like the keyboard for its Surface and Apple makes you buy anything extra for practically all of its devices. Besides the items included in the box, the Spectre X2 is more reasonable in price. The Spectre X2 model that I got has the Intel core i7 CPU with a 360GB SSD and 8 GB of RAM. For a Surface, you're either paying a little bit more for an i5 CPU and less storage (once you add the keyboard and other extras) or paying significantly more for a Surface with a i7 CPU and less storage before you add on the keyboard. For the price, the HP Spectre X2 is a clear winner.
Some things about the performance of this machine. The screen on the Spectre X2 is beautiful. Everything looks great on it. the high screen resolution really shines. The i7 CPU and 8 GB RAM handle everything that I have thrown at them in my short time with this computer. I can get from boot up to work/play in no time at all. There's no hesitation in opening apps/programs and everything just works. Like the Surface, the Spectre X2 is no gaming machine, but Intel's Iris Plus Graphics will support easily support games that don't require the very best graphics cards. I loaded up some Blizzard games, like Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm, and they all performed and looked good. One thing that did surprise me was the quality of the speakers. They are much better than I expected. Being forward facing does help since the sound is projected towards you while you are using the computer. The battery life is as you'd expect from any laptop. Basic web browsing got me around 7-8 hours of battery life and more intensive things like Netflix or playing games cut that time down quite a bit.
The one thing that I don't like about HP's offering is the charger that they supplied with the Spectre X2. I got used to having the USB slot on the charger that Microsoft supplies with the Surface to charge my phone or tablet without needing to use one of the precious few connection ports on the computer. I guess of all things to be lacking on, this would be the best one to fall short in.
Overall, I really like what HP built with this version of the Spectre X2. They did an A+ job of building a super portable computer that has great specs to do just about anything you'd want to on a new laptop. If you're in the market for a new laptop, you can't go wrong by making the Spectre X2 your choice!

Portable and Powerful

The short review is that this is a great machine and I would recommend it to anyone. It's portable and powerful without giving up having a real computer.
The longer version. I had been considering an iPad Pro on the recommendation of a friend, but I am happy that I did not choose it. All the things that people say about Apple products are here. Designed well, premium feeling in the hand, BUT you have a real computer with real computing power.
The keyboard is my favorite part of this. The keys travel like you're typing on a desktop or full laptop. The trackpad is responsive and is a little extra wide, which is good since the screen is landscaped. I'm not sure why more companies don't add some width to help you travel across the screen without having to set the mouse speed too high. It also clicks, rather than just being touch sensitive. You know when you've clicked as opposed to a touch only one. Remember, this is a detachable keyboard, so I really like those things about it.
Design: premium feeling as mentioned. The kickstand is also well designed. It has good range. It pulls out far enough that you can have the tablet lying at an angle for use with the pen, or standing upright. Back to the keyboard, it connects very firmly. They didn't skimp on the magnets. You might have to see it in person to understand this, but it also has a little bit of material in between the edge with the magnet and where the keyboard starts. There's another magnet on the edge that connect onto the tablet and lifts the keyboard just a little. If you're like me and hate flat keyboards, it's a very well thought out detail.
The pen is more useful than most I've used. I'm not a heavy user of it.
But in lieu of a mouse, especially when you're not using the keyboard, I have found myself reaching for it more and more. My favorite part is that you can write and it will convert it to text. Very handy without the keyboard for putting in URLs or searches in your search engine of choice.
I won't comment on Windows. If you like it, good. If you don't, don't buy this. But I can tell you that with the SSD, Core i7 and RAM in this thing, it does not hesitate for a moment. It responds to every input immediately. Programs also load quickly.
I actually like this more than I thought I would and I'm quite impressed, which I did not anticipate. Computers have become boring and a commodity in my opinion, with the makers trying crazy designs or gimmicks to be different. This is just well made and works.
Highly recommended.

This 2 in 1 is amazing. I've been holding off on getting one because I wasn't sure that it was something I needed. I have a laptop and I have a tablet and while the laptop flies, sometimes, depending on what I'm doing, the tablet just isn't fast enough. Both are about 2 years old.
With the i7 processor and 8GB of RAM in this unit, I got all the power AND SPEED I wanted with the portability to boot. Not only that but with the 360 GB SSD and virtual/cloud storage available almost anywhere, you'll never hurt for space on this bad boy either.
GRAPHICS: Although I used to be a gamer, I am not any more so I can't attest to the full capability of the onboard graphics, however for me, with everything from spreadsheets in Excel for work, to surfing the net, to watching Netflix and other streaming videos, this device has a remarkably clear screen. I'm very impressed.
SOUND: Not a lot to say about the sound except it's surprisingly LOUD if you want it to be and the overall sound is very solid. It'll never replace external speakers, but never the less, they're very impressive.
Again, as someone new to the 2 in 1 world, I loved the kickstand feature and the ease of connecting and disconnecting the keyboard. I've never used a stylus before, but this one is very easy to use and I feel like its something that I'll want to use more as I get used to it. I've so far tried it in Paint, surfing the web on Edge, and scribbling notes as a test.
I've had no issues with WiFi or network connectivity at all. I have both a 2.4GHz and a 5GHz signal in my home. Both my MacBook Pro and the Spectre X2 performed similarly with speed tests on both networks.
Battery life seems to be excellent. I haven't had the chance to really test out the full capability of the battery, but I was able to stream 3 movies on Netflix, almost 6 hours, and still had 10% of my battery left.
Overall, I'm extremely happy with this and can't wait to use it more and dig a little deeper.

Simply Amazing

This is a superb option to the other tablet/laptop convertible devices. It comes with the keyboard, so, with it combined with an i7 processor, 360gb SSD, 8gb ram, and an included stylus, it pretty much can't be beat for the price.
Upon opening the box I was very pleasantly surprised about how thin this device is, just amazing.
The screen resolution is superb, super clear, looks about as close to real life as it gets, I cannot make out pixels unless I use a magnifier.
Speed is right up there with my i7 "A" branded laptop and heat doesn't seem to be a problem, "I haven't pushed it really hard yet though", but there is a small cooling fan and you can just barely hear it, no way it would be annoying at any point so far.
The keyboard is excellent, I was surprised it's a lot better than a "D" branded tablet/convertible I have and pretty much the same as a regular laptop keyboard. Key-presses are deep enough to where it feels correct and hard to accidentally depress when typing.
There are 2 USB type C ports, one on each side and either can be used for charging, that's great considering how you have it set up you can place the charging cable on the side most convenient for you. I also have a couple USB C dongles that have HDMI, Ethernet and multiple USB 3 ports. They worked fine right off without having to fiddle around with them. This make it super easy to add an external drive or hooking up an external monitor. And since there are two USB C ports you can charge while using other devices.
HP has really hit a home run with this device, it's definitely something you should put on your buy list when looking for a new tablet/laptop convertible.

I got this for a gift for my dad on fathers day. Its been a while since I got a laptop, my first and only one was a compaq presario which weighed almost 10 lbs and was 2 1/4” thick (I’ve settled with desktops since then). This specter was an unbelievable 13.2 mm thin and about 2.5 lbs. I first saw this in a commercial and it peaked my interest when I saw a review saying it was the next surface killer. I’m not gonna compare the two but just tell you about this X2. It is switchable to a laptop or tablet mode (it gets hot if you place it bare on directly to your lap/ skin). The full sized detachable keyboard feels comfortably and snaps with ease. I was impressed with the kickstand - flexible yet sturdy up to a 165 degree angle. The package also comes with a Pen, as in the commercial you could draw, sketch or write. This pen uses a AAAA battery. And of course the display is touch screen. Other accessories included were a leather sleeve, usb C to A adapter and extra plug/socket. The tablet has 2 USB ports, micro SD slot, camera, mic, built in wifi and 30 day Mc afee virus software. The design is sleek, price tag was over $150 compared to similar Surface pro (technical specs). Battery life is as advertised. Probably less depending on settings etc.. I’ve owned HP products before and my work place uses HP laptops as well. I am sure this is a little bit extravagant in terms of features to as what my dad needs it for but overall this was a good purchase for me.

I don't give many 5 stars but this is very deserving. To start, I like that this device comes with a keyboard, case, pen and mini usb to usb converter far surpassing what the primary competition offers. The keyboard is smooth. Typing is easy and it is backlit. Connecting is amazing. There is a magnetic mechanism that aligns it and connects very quickly. There is a kick stand in the back to support the device on a table or your lap. The screen is very clear. I was surprised at the clarity and resolution. Because it has a solid state hard drive, it boots very quickly, under 10 seconds. I like this device better than my laptop. I wish there was a slot built into the device for the pen but I realize the space is likely needed for other electronic components. You will need the mini usb converter to connect any regular usb devices. The two ports are both mini. If you want a wireless mouse, you might want a blue tooth one. The keyboard does come with a touch pad that works well. Overall, I really like this device and am using it for all my computing The i7 processor gives it power.

High quality alternative to Surface Pro

The new HP Spectre X2 is proof positive that Microsoft has been successful in encouraging it's OEM partners to produce higher quality and more thoughtful PC experiences. This new tablet is lightweight, well constructed from high quality materials, and offers solid performance.
Included items:
Out of the box, the Spectre X2 comes with the tablet style computer itself, a thin keyboard with attaches via magnets with a look and method which is highly reminiscent of Microsoft's Surface keyboard, and a pen for writing or drawing on the screen. Also included is a high speed USB-C charger and a USB-C to USB-A dongle. It's great to have USB-C ports on the device, but I'd much prefer both USB-C and USB-A rather than needing to use the dongle for all legacy USB-A devices.
Design:
The tablet is attractively designed with a dark matt grey finish accented by the gold toned kickstand and HP logo. The kickstand is more stable and rigid than it appears. Bezels are small, but still provide enough space around the edge of the display to hold the tablet without triggering the touch screen and to use Win10 swiping gestures. The keyboard is solid and attractive with a rubberized base. So close is the design that it really looks like it could be interchangeable with a Surface Pro keyboard (I tried - it doesn't fit). There are two forward firing speakers, apparently courtesy of Bang and Olufsen, which sound quite good with the volume up. In addition to the dual USB-C ports (one each side, which is smart) there are two volume buttons, the sleep/wake button on top, and an SD card slot. Having an SD card on a Windows tablet is very useful as it works just like an additional hard drive (other than performance). The only negative here is that the SD slot requires a paperclip or sim ejection tool to open. On the plus side, the card will stay securely in place and does not protrude like it does on some laptops.
There is no DisplayPort, micro HDMI, or other standard video port, although obviously USB-C and Miracast alleviate that issue.
Overall the design of the unit is excellent.
Setup / Software:
For some reason, OEMs still feel the need to load up their Win10 installs with unnecessary custom software, and unfortunately this HP is no exception. It came preloaded with McAfee antivirus and various HP utilities for support, driver updates, and an out-of-the-box setup program to help users get familiar with their new machine. Not one of the installed HP programs actually worked. Literally every one of them failed to run for some reason. I uninstalled them all except the support assistant in the hopes that they might fix it and it would make driver updates easier. I also uninstalled McAfee and went with the built-in Windows Defender, which performs fine for most regular users and exerts much less influence on system performance.
Performance:
I've tested everything from web browsing to video streaming to Office applications to 3D gaming. In all cases, the Spectre X2 has performed admirably. I'll leave benchmarks to the tech sites, but my personal experience has been that the CPU and local storage are quick, and the built-in Intel 3D hardware is adequate for running recent 3D games as long as you don't mind reducing resolution and detail options. Obviously not a gaming PC, but works just fine if there's some light gaming in the mix.
The screen is gorgeous. Great resolution, color rendering, and brightness across a range of applications.
The included pen provides reasonable accuracy and better than expected pressure sensitivity. It probably won't win awards in the art world, but for signing and marking up documents and for amateur artists it's a great option that performs well from a subjective standpoint.
The keyboard and trackpad are not quite polished as the most recent efforts from Microsoft, but they're really strong. The trackpad is a good size, very smooth, and supports multi-touch gestures.
There is a fan in this unit, but it tends to be both quiet and seldom used.
Battery Life:
Battery performance has been impressive. The biggest contributor to this is that I've experienced literally zero measurable leakage in standby / sleep mode. This is truly a computer that you can use for an hour each day for a week and not charge until the weekend. For an i7, the battery also holds up well under regular web, video, and productivity loads, although gaming will obviously drain it much more quickly.
Overall:
Overall this device is easy to recommend to somebody how needs a solid general purpose PC that combines usability as a either tablet or a laptop. It's easily one of the best executed convertibles I've seen and should perform admirably for home, business (especially road warriors), and students alike.
