I had this laptop for a little over two weeks now and my first impression is that it is very stylish, feels and looks very expensive, light laptop and has everything I need. I have been a macbook pro user for the last 10 years and I use this laptop for office work (good keyboard, nicely spaced out keys, stylish and all keys in 12 inch space!), online surfing and video/audio stuff. Most importantly it is light and portable and this is all of that and more. The built in speakers are amazing (Bang and Olufsen)! Likes: 1. HP gives a free USB C converter along with this laptop, so I could easily sync up my external drive. 3. Speaker on the keyboard and the tablet. Very good quality of audio, must say duly impressed with this tiny light classy thing! 4. Keyboard has like a paper cloth bottom covering instead of an aluminium/metal finish. But that is ok as the keyboard in itself is made of metal. 5. Easy snap on functionality for the keyboard, no hassle. 6. Nicely equipped for the price: (360gb ssd, intel 7 core, etc...) The only major thing I do not like about this laptop is the kick stand. If I want to use the laptop in bed, I can not because it can not stand on its own because the kickstand is awkward if you want to use it on your lap. You can only use it on a table. If on you lap you have to use it as a tablet. Also, I wish the PC companies would stop loading anti-virus software with the PC. We should be able to install which one we want, and now that windows 10 has its own built in defender program the disk space should not be taken up by antivirus software.

    Excellent razor thin laptop

I've had the HP Spectre X2 for about 3 1/2 weeks and absolutely love it. Not counting an iPad, this is my first laptop and so far, I'm really impressed. This has a 7th generation Intel Core i7-7560U chip running at 2.4GHz, a large 360 GB SSD, 8GB of memory, 12.3 inch touch screen, built in cameras, Bang & Olufsen speakers and Bluetooth and Windows 10. It also came with an HP Active Pen which lets you highlight, write, draw or simply use as a digital stylus to eliminate fingerprints on your screen. Also included is a pleather like padded storage case with Velcro closing. With an SSD hard drive, this computer boots up from totally off in less than 30 seconds. The screen is made of Gorilla Glass so it would take a fairly large fall to crack or break the display. It has 2 USB Type-C ports which you also plug in your charging cable to re-charge the battery. It come with one adaptor so you can plug in your mouse dongle, flash drive or an external hard drive. You'll need another USB type C adaptor though if you want to charge the laptop while using it, or having your mouse dongle plugged in. The HP dongle goes for $25.00 and up, but you can get an aftermarket one that works with flash drives, mouse dongle and hard drives for $6.99.The battery is supposed to last 8 hours, but so far my experience falls short of that. The gold colored stainless steel "kick stand" lets you select what ever angle you want to view your screen at, weather the screen is "docked" with the keyboard or detached. When not in use, the "kick stand" neatly fold up.The shell of this laptop is made from aluminum, so it's tough and light. Not cheap plastic like so many things are made from nowadays.. I have played a few movies on this while traveling and it works great. The picture is stunning. Vibrant colors and crisp and clear. The speakers, though they come from a high ends manufacturer, are so-so at the most. Good enough if you don't have headphones, but I highly recommend headphones if listening to music or watching a movie. This thing is razor thin at about 7/16 of an inch thick. Being thin does have it's problems though. There is not a cd drive. You can't connect your internet directly to it as there is not a LAN port. It's Wi-Fi only. I'm still getting use to Windows 10. My pc has Windows 7. And while I prefer 7, 10 is ok This is my first laptop and overall, I'm giving this a 5 out of 5 stars even though there is not a cd drive or LAN port.

The HP Spectre X2 is clearly HP's current attempt to stay on track with Microsoft's Surface Pro machines. I believe my 25 year old son bought the first Surface Pro out for around $250, maybe 4 years ago. While I realize the need for these tech companies to continually have goodies that are different, better, sleeker, etc., to this 58 year old CPA who uses desktop computers every day of my professionsl life, the market cost of about $1,300 in my opinion is high. While HP has designed this to be a laptop/tablet, I believe it is most useful as a tablet. Anyone doing serious work in a financial program would find it quite impossible without a separate number pad. Also, while the keys are easy to see and punch and there is a function key to backlight the keyboard, I wonder at what toll to the battery life leaving the backlit feature engaged costs the life of the battery. I am not a tech guru, but do appreciate the sleek lines, lightweight, soundless, no seemingly moving parts that are featured in this machine. I never did use Windows 8 or 8.1 when it came out, but stuck with 7. So, having Windows 10 is a good compromise for me personally. I can explore how to use the tiles, but am still most comfortable with the 7 desktop appearance. The setup of Windows 10 was easy and in fact all setup, email, etc. did not require any IT personnel, and did not tax my brain. I definitely love that this is easy to transport and travel with. Clearly, I cannot yet determine how well it will hold up and how easy and cost effective it will be to repair should anything not work quite right. However, the price is high enough where one would not simply toss a non-functioning Spectre, but rather attempt to repair it. I did use the pen and it writes just fine on this machine. This ensemble came with the laptop/tablet, the pen, the main charger, a short cable with USB, and an electric wall plug in. There is a built in Windows 10 tutorial when pressing the Function 1 key. In fact a lot of commands are within the function key row above. Very little paper is included with owner's manuals and user instructions; essentially, they rely on the user to go online and review or download. The resolution is great. Things that I have not considered- ease of mouse installation and usage, but I do see that the it has found my wireless printers and I am going to install them on this machine so that I can print from this too.

High End 2-N-1 That's Easy To Use

From the minute I got this product, I knew it was going to be great. It's high end right out of the box. It was well packed and protected. Everything was easy to find, unwrap, and set up. It even came with a sleeve to keep it from getting scratched. Personally, I think the sleeve is a little tight to slide the unit in but I think that will change with use. The kickstand is a real game changer for me. It's sturdy and let's me use the unit at all the perfect angles for writing, drawing and other tasks. Windows 10 was very easy to set up because Cortana guided me through it easily. Within a few minutes it was ready to go. I really like that the keyboard can be set for ergonomics or to simply lay flat. I also like that the pen loop is built in to the keyboard so it can't come off. However, I'm not thrilled with the place it's located. It's toward the bottom of the keyboard and sticks out of the bottom unless you're careful. That may not seem like a big deal but I can see the top of the pen getting messed up if it's bumped too much. I like the design of the pen and the fact that it feels like a normal pen in my hand, but I don't know why it needs to have a battery. This is the first device I have with a pen that uses a battery. I'm not sure how long the battery will last but I suppose it depends on either how long you use it or the tasks you use it for. I do a lot of handwriting so in time I'll see how long that battery lasts. The pen also seems a bit touchy. You only need to use very light pressure when working with it otherwise it tends to make stray marks when you're writing or drawing with it. The sound is fantastic and the speakers are in the perfect place. Battery life for the unit itself depends on what you use it for. I easily got 8 hours plus of battery life but I wasn't streaming videos or doing other power heavy tasks. I really like this unit and I take it just about everywhere with me because I never know when a creative idea will hit. When it does, I just pull this out and either use it all together or just the tablet. Both ways are super easy to use.

This laptop has some great features. First, it comes with everything you need, including a carry case. Set up was a breeze. It's really fast, and the kickstand will work great for college use. The sound is amazing. This will really come in handy for taking notes and other school functions, not to mention just relaxing and goofing off watching movies or surfing the net. So glad I have this laptop.

I have been really happy with this tablet-laptop and there is a lot to love. The resolution is incredible. Love the kick stand and that it functions just like a lap top. The keyboard is better than my laptop. It is back lit and connects to the tablet really easy. The magnets guide it in place with one simple motion. I like that the keyboard is included and not sold separately. The pen is also included. Because it is solid state, boot up is quick-under 10 seconds. I have not used the competition but see no reason too. It even comes with a storage case. Like I said there is a lot to love. I wish the pen integrated into the housing but my guess is that is much needed space. I don;t give much 5 stars but I do this. You certainly feel the i7 power and it works every bit as good as a traditional laptop.

    Beautiful Design but Poor Performance

    Posted .

I have owned the new HP X2 and the new Surface Pro 5 for over one week. I have spent many hours benchmarking and stress testing each Computer. I came to a conclusion that I preferred the nSP over the X2. The X2 design is absolutely beautiful, its classy and elegant. The keyboard has no flex and love the rubber bottom and the metal keypad. The screen colors are vibrant with very little backlight bleed. The speakers are loud and very good treble. The computer response quickly with all tasks. The downside is that HP did not properly design the X2's heat management. It gets very hot, I was able to get the back plate to reach temps in excess of 60'c, that is burning hot, doing simple Adobe Video Editing. The fan is noticeable and turns on all the time, even during normal web browsing. Digging deeper into the HP, they set the max TDP output (power to utilize between the CPU and GPU) to only 15 Watts, that is very low, with turbo boost set to 18.75 Watts (in comparison the nSP is set to 25 Watts, with turbo set to 35 Watts). Even with those low Watts, it still over heats causing the CPU to drastically thermal and power limit throttle causing it to slow down drastically. During 10 minutes of gaming, I got the CPU to go down to .8ghz (vs the nSP stayed at 2.5ghz+). Benchmarking for example, 3DMARK CLOUDGATE HP = 5800-7000 (depending on thermal throttling), nSP = 8220 - 8900, that is a big difference for two computers with the same components. In conclusion, if you want to save $500, and only plan to do normal web browsing then HP is the way to go. If you do video/photo editing, light gaming, then you might want to look else where like the new Surface Pro.

    Great PC for Videos

Bought this to convert tape videos to MP4 format. Works great! Far faster processing than any other PC I've used. Had to buy a hub extender to connect USB-3 device and mouse as well as SD and micro SD cards and HDMI. It comes with one USB-C to USB-3 but the hub extends the number of ports. With the SSD drive, the system boots up super fast! Wish it had a bigger drive but 360 gig is sufficient. Video is crisp and clear, no blurring around text.

Best keyboard I have ever used

I love this HP Spectre x2! Admittedly, I did not buy it at Best Buy as I was able to acquire a certified refurbished one but the reviews I read here made me lean towards this computer over the Surface. I used to own an SP4 and I had no concerns with it but this computer is such a better value. The keyboard and pen are included and I have to say that this is the best keyboard I have ever used. The keys are solid, provide the perfect amount of feedback and exudes overall quality. The specs are also rock solid, especially given the price point. The only concern is that because it does have a powerful i7 processor, it does get a little warm and the fan does get a little noisy. But it has not impacted the overall performance. Plus, it's a stunning piece of hardware!

    Nervous, but hopeful

This is my second unit. The first had a defective right shift key, so I went back to Best Buy and exchanged it. Now, I have been testing it out over the course of the last day. Fans are almost always running, not sure why it runs hot when I only have a few tabs open in edge and nothing going on in the background. I had to uninstall Macafee free trial since it was causing a lot of the fan activity, and after I did that it got better. However, the last problem that remains unresolved is the wifi. For some reason, the laptop has very poor wifi performance. I tested the speed on my iPhone 7 Plus using a Wifi speed tester, and it says my connection is about 20mb/s. However, when I switch to the HP, the tester says my download connection is only 6-8mb/s. This is a very noticeable difference, and I am not sure if my 2nd unit is also defective. I really hope I don't have to make another trip to the store, but I can only hope for the best at this point. May or may not be returning it in the future, I'll continue to use it for a few more days and then decide.

Almost everything about this laptop is great. i have only ran into two issues and that is with the speakers, now don't get me wrong, the speakers can get extremely loud but it seems that with this new line of PC that HP has made are all using Bang and Olufsen that have made crackling noise in each model
