This is my first time buying a gaming laptop, especially an HP because I had desktop for work and a laptop years ago that were great. These are my experiences with this one. The laptop screen is incredibly wobbly. Literally the slightest movement like typing, using the mouse, having a fan blowing on it will have the entire display wobbling like the hinges were loose. Gaming with this shaky screen takes me out of the experience. I’ve never had a windows laptop with a display that felt so fragile, however I do like the design, which makes it look super sleek and high tech. Yet just how it is always moving makes me uncomfortable taking it anywhere outside from my house. I keep thinking after a few months the hinges would become loose and I’d have to purchase parts to fix it. Although the graphics and resolution are great, on some apps and games they seemed almost blurry. My primary thought when purchasing a gaming laptop was to do some light gaming, maybe some big open world games, and shooter or 3, but nothing crazy. The few games I did play would become unresponsive and taking forever to run. I download my games straight from Steam, Microsoft Store, and Xbox App and some still would lag and freeze during gameplay and some won’t even get me past the title screens. The Bluetooth on this device is strange. I connected a mouse that connected fine (no usb) to my 2021 MacBook, (has multiple device switch over function and recently purchased) and when connecting the same mouse to this laptop, I couldn’t move the cursor at all unless I connected a USB. This laptop generates a lot of heat over just a few hours of light gameplay. It is a lot cooler on my desk with a fan. Next is the touchpad. As much as I love a touchpad with multiple functions and gestures, I absolutely hated this one. I tried to find ways to tweak the settings, making the sensitivity high, low, tweaked with the advanced settings and it still wasn’t increasing my comfort. It’s almost always unresponsive during gameplay. Any gestures I use like swiping up and down in games with 2 fingers that are supposed to activate the scroll feature (right clicking/hold) so I can move my camera around a character, sometimes does not work. For me to even get the slightest movement I have to put both fingers at the bottom right corner of the touchpad for it even to respond and move my character screen which is irritating. Of course I can use my bluetooth mouse all the time but what’s the point of have a laptop with a built in one and it barely works like I need it to. The sound is OK, literally nothing special. I wasn’t expecting Beats by Dre type audio but it’s super low with no bass or anything. When watching videos I have to turn to at least 75-85 to be able to even hear dialogue clearly, even listening to music on this isn’t my favorite thing to do. The 8g of ram is fine, I could upgrade it for cheap so I wasn't too worried about that. The thing is for a gaming laptop, games that could run fine on a 4gb pc will cause apps/games on this one to crash. I’m not sure if this is the laptop or the games I’ve downloaded, but they work fine on my old 2014 Lenovo, and it’s not even a gaming laptop. Overall the HP Victus in my opinion is not worth $800, maybe $600. It can run good when it does. I could play games like Sims 4 great, Project Zomboid, and Project Winter fine, But games like Dead By Daylight, Sea of Thieves, or No Man Sky seems like too much for this machine. For all my light gamers who just need something on a budget, sure, buy it. My heavy gamers who like a good solid laptop that will be perfect I warn that may not be what you will get. I'm returning mine for a more capable laptop.
