The screen was bulging out of the frame on the first monitor I purchased. I returned that unit and received a monitor that eventually developed a high pitched tone when displaying certain colors/patterns (white spreadsheets were the worst). I sent that unit to HP for an RMA and they sent back a different monitor with the same high frequency tone issue and a dead pixel. If you can live with these issues I guess the monitor is fine, but it definitely is an example of a product listing that is too good (cheap) to be true.

Great screen, but I got the open box and the screen sits crooked on the base, also the screws holding the screen to the base also don’t go in all the way. But again it was open box..

There’s a lot to like about the HP 25Xih, though I do have a couple of issues with it, with one in particular enough to give the monitor a pass. While a high refresh rate is critical for performance gaming, it’s also a great benefit for virtually any computing task. Since I’ve been spoiled with 120+Hz displays, I’ll admit it’s hard for me to downgrade to 60Hz even for simple tasks like web browsing, where it’s like looking at a slide-show as I move the mouse cursor around, drag a window, or do basically anything. Being a FreeSync monitor, one thing that has to be fiddled with is the response times (which G-Sync monitors handle automatically) so as to avoid ghosting problems endemic with IPS displays. I found that the ‘fastest’ response times of this monitor generate too much ghosting, requiring me to dial the response time to middle or lower. Once I found a sweet spot, the amount of ghosting experienced was much lower than that of non-gaming monitors with higher response times. The low response time, adaptive sync provided by FreeSync, and especially the 144Hz refresh rate, combined with a decent GPU, really lent for a smooth gaming experience in my testing. The picture quality is better than I expected for an entry-level monitor with matte finish. There’s great contrast with the darks actually being dark, lights being bright thanks to the high nit rating, and the colors are quite vivid. The display performed quite well on gradient tests, showing minimal banding. I didn’t have any issues with backlight bleed-through and didn’t have any dead pixels. The side and top bezels are quite thin, allowing for decent multi-monitoring if desired. I really like how adjustable the included stand is, allowing for height and tilt adjustments, as well as rotation for portrait alignment. It is a tad ‘wiggly’ though. What I really don’t like, however, is the downward-facing—and gravity-aligned—input ports. This makes plugging things in much more a pain in the rear than it should be, and also greatly increases the chance of accidentally unplugging something. Case in point, the power cable slid out as I was casually adjusting the monitor’s placement on my desk. The On-Screen Display (OSD) is quite flexible and has some nice features. It has the obligatory gamer’s crosshair where the color can be adjusted, and even multiple overlays mixed and matched among dot, crosshair, side-bars, and circle. It also has a frame-rate overlay feature that has configurable color and the corner position can be selected. Unfortunately, the size can’t be adjusted for either the crosshair or FPS overlays which is unfortunate because they are both unusually large. The power indicator light can be turned off. I like how the physical buttons are configurable, providing quick access to features such as the crosshair and framerate overlays, switching input sources, or adjusting brightness and color, which saves time that would otherwise be spent navigating through menus. Considering how well this monitor performed in my gaming testing and the features provided for the price point, I would normally be happy to recommend it to those who don’t mind the relatively small size, but I did run into an unfortunate snag with the auto-sleep mode. When the monitor stops receiving input for a while it goes into sleep mode and turns off the backlight as it should. But sometime later, for some unknown reason, the monitor wakes up and remains at a back-lit black screen (that is until I re-awaken the input signal source). Every morning during my testing I’d wake up to this monitor in this state. Of the well over a dozen computer monitors and displays in my room, this is the only unit with which I’ve experienced this problem. I wish this were an issue I could simply ignore, but as someone who has experienced LCD back-light burnout on monitors with _working_ auto-sleep functions, I see this as a major problem for longevity. During the prohibitively short timeframe I was given for testing before having to write my review, I wasn’t able to find a solution other than manually turning the display off. It’s possible that I’m an outlier and that most users won’t experience this issue, but it’s enough for me to avoid recommending this monitor at this time.

    144hz & Gorgeous Picture

I have been having a problem with one of my dual gaming monitors. I was running two ASUS 180hz 1080p gaming monitors that made my photos look like trash when I was using my iPhone 11 Pro Max for photos. So I was beginning to notice that my games were having the same issue. The colors didn’t look right & it was starting to really bother me. Factory resetting the ASUS monitors & trying to tweak the settings never alleviated the problem. So when I got a chance to try the HP X24ih gaming monitor I jumped at the chance. Yes I’m going from 180hz to 144hz but the human eye can’t see more than 60 fps. The change in clarity of image, quality of image & the beautiful colors made it worthwhile. All I can say is: WOW! The colors look great, the response rate is blazing fast at 1ms & I’m able to push all the games I tried to 144hz with my two 1080 Ti GPUs running in SLI with the HB SLI adapter. I believe this is my first IPS panel. So far I am loving it. I can’t believe I never switched sooner. If you are a gamer that wants: the best colors, a high refresh rate, low response time & great bang for your buck then this is the best 1080p monitor on the market today. Quit looking & comparing. Buy this HP X24ih today! You will NOT be disappointed. TL;DR: Get this monitor, it is gorgeous, sexy & easy on the wallet.

**FYI** The monitor I got was a batch that was made January 2021. I was very excited to use this monitor and a second one but….the display is horrible! I have an almost 5 yr old Asus monitor and it has a better display. Even hooking up the HDMI directly to the GPU the display was still garbage. The issues I’m talking about with the display are: - Picture quality is dim and funky. It makes everything look hazy not matter what setting I chose. - The sharpness is ridiculous and distorts pictures. Even putting the sharpness to soft doesn’t do anything for the picture and makes the words blurry. It could be just the monitor I got and whoever is reading this can try to see if they have better luck. The actual make of the monitor is nice and sturdy. That’s the positive about it for me.

The HP X24ih monitor is a 144mhz FreeSync Premium, fast response monitor that functions well in gaming and in general use. It is an IPS LED display capable of 1920 x 1080 resolution. I tried the monitor with a gaming laptop and with a desktop with Intel graphics. In general use such as word processing or surfing the WEB, the IPS screen is bright, crisp and clear and produces almost no glare. The monitor itself has a menu system with many options. Within that system is the option to turn FreeSync on or off. In gaming, the smoothness of the 144mhz is noticeable compared to a lower frequency monitor. The display is also bright and colorful in gaming. A couple of words on the ergonomics. As I mentioned, the screen is IPS which allows viewing from a wide angle. The screen is also adjustable vertically so it can be positioned as desired for your environment.

The HP X24ih 23.8 inch monitor is a very nice monitor. Pros -144hz refresh rate and 1ms response time, which is very nice for gaming -350 nits brightness, which makes the contrast in colors sharper than the average monitor -tiny side bezels which give it a sleek design -The stand it comes allows the monitors height and tilt to be changed -able to change many things such as brightness, and there are different modes such as theatre, blue light, gaming, etc. In conclusion the HP X24ih is an amazing monitor at a great price of a 144hz refresh rate monitor!

With this monitor, HP is definitely trying to deliver a monitor in that perfect sweet spot of performance and price to which this monitor definitely delivers. Upon first unboxing this monitor it is evident that the build quality is on par with other HP products as the stand is very sturdy and is visually appealing. Upon setup, the functional aspect of the stand is great since it allows you to not only adjust the tilt, but also the height. In regards to the height adjustment, it is not as difficult as other models as it moves very fluidly with ease but also locks in so you don`t have to worry about it moving once it is locked in. One other physical aspect of the monitor is the navigation buttons as this is something minor, but I have had issues with ease of use with other monitors where this monitor even allows you to program the buttons to your preferences which is great. In regards to the actual performance of the screen, I must say I was definitely impressed with an IPS monitor that is also 144 Hz. I could definitely notice the difference in regards to the brightness with it being an IPS monitor along with the 350 nits of brightness. Then on the other end with the refresh rate, this is something that can`t be stressed enough of the importance as once you go from 60 Hz it is difficult to go back so the fact they were able to incorporate this in the monitor with such a good picture at this price is phenomenal. The only slight negative with this monitor would come into play if you were using a gaming console and a PC as there is only one HDMI port though you could always use the DisplayPort for your PC. Overall, for the price of this monitor you get superb build quality, great function of the monitor with it having both a tiltable and height-adjustable features, an IPS screen that delivers bright colors along with 144Hz for the price it really can`t be beaten.

Got this monitor exactly 3 months ago and although the graphics are nice, it goes blank for a few seconds about twice per gaming session daily which is vital mid gaming, Ive adjusted everything from my console to the monitor to try and fix it but think its just from cheap parts. Using an Xbox series X with a high end HDMI (have tested several others too to see if it was the cord). On the cautious side, if you’re using console and are looking for a monitor, id keep looking
