Customers frequently mention the Honor 5X's reasonable price, great camera, and long battery life as positive aspects. They appreciate the convenience of dual SIM cards, its user-friendly interface, and the fact that it is unlocked for global use. However, some users have concerns about occasional lags, overheating issues, its large size, outdated software, and overall performance.

Love the phone but cannot find glass screen replacement as Huawei has no market share in USA and the retailers nor repair shops have materials to repair. I would pass on Huawei until this gets better.

Disclaimer: I have no way to affiliate with the phone company, but I got the phone from the manufacture directly in the early day. Below is the review I wrote after two weeks' usage and tests: It is a great phone. But it has been a hard task for me to pick up the best feature of the Honor 5X phone. If I have to choose, the cameras may be on the top (considering the price), then the battery, then the build, the quality, the performance, EMUI and user-friendly designs. All of them are really close on my ranking, and all of them should be above the average of phones in the similar price range in my personal view of point. The detailed review follows. The nice cameras: 9/10 After searching among most recent phones, this phone's camera is surprisingly among those of the pricy ones. I have used the phone cameras in big conference rooms, typical class rooms, on street and many other places in my daily life. The cameras work great! In the classroom, it is very helpful to take a Panorama on the blackboard. I did one with a long blackboard--the resolution is set to be relatively low and my hands were shaking at the end. The text is good enough for notes taking! But there is still some room for Huawei to improve on the optical stability of cameras. I taken some photos on street at lunch time. The camera readjusted the strong sunshine on top automatically so that you don't feel too bright, but I did! On the software side, there are also useful features and apps using the cameras. You can make photos in Valencia, Sweat, Sentimental and other flavors and beautify photos in real time. It also has the dedicated design for taking photos for food. Most interestingly, there are pre-installed apps for using the phone as a mirror, magnifier and flashlight if you need. I always want to see the back of my head, but I couldn't do it until I have the phone. I just use the Mirror function and put the phone on the other side of my head and touch the screen to have a snapshot over the front camera, and then I can see if there is any grey hair on the back side in real details! The Mirror function is different than a normal camera because normal camera function may automatically re-focus for a fixed effect, but with the Mirror, you can zoom in and fix the focus if you want to see more details of the photo. Moreover, if you blow over the microphone, the Mirror really "condensate fog"! The long-lasting battery and energy-efficient design: 9/10 I have tested the energy consuming and battery lasting time in a normal usage mode, a heavy usage mode and standby modes. All gives impressive results. With a normal use (wifi, camera on, Twitter and so on) in a conference event from 7:30am to 9:30pm, the phone still has 72% battery left over in the end. I have also tried a little bit of crazy, with wifi on for facebook, twitter, and sharing photos, no apps closed if openned, uisng Endomondo to track my travel path using GPS and using a lot of apps, for the worst and heaviest usage, I still has almost 20%-30% of battery left after a day. I did a 22min wifi calling test, the voice was clear, battery only dropped 3% to give an estimated airtime of 666min which can be improved if GSM signal is used. Basically I don't worry about the power supply in a day for most of using cases. For the standby modes, I tested two modes. One is with Wifi and GPS on (no SIM card installed over the course), the battery went from 51% at 9:34 on Feb 15 in the morning and to 44% at 6:19pm the same day with a few automatic app updates. Only 7% of power drop in 9 hours. The other mode is just to have every app closed, no wifi and GPS, turned on for about 5 days. It still have about 90% of power at the end of test. However, I forgot to turn three apps off during the process and it drills the power a little. It predicted there could be 30 more days alive time in the same mode based on the linear regression of past usage pattern. Shining metal body and strong-built cores: 9/10 If you have the phone at hand, you won't refuse the light but solid and quality feeling. Huawei has really put a lot of efforts on building metals bodies of phones -- see the premium Mate and P series of Huawei phones. I also did a couple of simple free drop tests from heights about 1.5m and 2m (much taller than my head). The video can be found on YouTube. A much complete 4-step drop test by Huawei guys can be searched on Google. After the 10m drop, the screen was cracked but still responding. I did not go that far. But from my drop tests, I didn't see any scratch or crack, the phone is still fully functional. It is built in tough! Fresh-feeling EMUI and user-friendly design: 9/10 It has been convenient for me to directly use the fringerprint reader, pre-installed apps and swiping around over the phone on the EMUI Android system. The EMUI and pre-installed apps are really convenient for me. Despite the phone screen is large, it comes with a one-hand UI. The power saving features and the free Huawei backup storage offer are really a nice support for using the phone. There are some useful settings as well. For example, on Accessibility, you can choose Gloves mode, so that the phone can respond correctly if you wear a glove and need to touch the phone in an unusual way. With motion control setting, you can set Flip to Mute, Shake to Rearrange icons, Double Tap to Turn on Screen, and Draw various Letters on the turned-off Screen to Turn on Flashlight, Music, Dialer and other functions easily. These designs are similar to OnePlus phones. Overall, I think this phone is built with almost the best hardware and quality with truncations of investiments on NFC, gyroscopic sensor and storage space. You can purchase a NFC card and up to 128GB SD card to extend the storage space if you really need. I don't feel the gyroscopic sensor is that important for now. One thing I need to remind you is that this phone comes with dual SIM cards support but not with dual wifi bands support. If you need to use other wifi bands, this is a restriction. For my case, I have downloaded a 2.7GB upgrade package from Huawei over wifi in ~20min at a university, I don't need dual wifi bands in my working environment. So far, I haven't found any other phone which has similar build and price at the same time in the US market.

Pros: Fast processor (8 cores!), lots of RAM (2GB!), and doesn't come pre-loaded with a bunch of junk. The camera is really good, and I love having the fingerprint reader on the back. The phone is huge (size of iPhone 6 plus) and resolution is great. The battery life is very good, and I love the phone manager application that prompts you to close programs that are consuming the battery in the background. The value is amazing. I couldn't believe I got such a great phone for less than what you pay on most insurance replacement plans for a refurb. Cons: The phone is huge, which can be a drawback to some. The standard android emojis are lame. The speakerphone is marginal. The bluetooth connection in my car will always connect to the phone, but at least half the time it doesn't connect for Media and I have to disable, and re-enable bluetooth to get it connected. Cases were hard to find, but I did find a good case for it on that South American river site. Overall the Pros well outweigh the minor annoyances and I would definitely recommend this phone and would buy it again in a heartbeat.

I use this phone as my secondary for about 1 month and counting, and I have to say the Huawei Honor 5x is better than my primary phone. Brighter sharper screen, longer battery life, faster Internet speeds, better build quality, and the phone speed is faster and last finger printer sensor is quick to unlock the phone. The features I mentioned make this phone a pleasant surprise. I may get rid of my primary phone and keep this primary time will tell.

Very affordable unlocked dual sim phone. Switching between sims is a breeze. All phones should have a fingerprint sensor like this. It does more than just unlock the phone too. The battery lasts well more than a full day for me and is fairly quick charge. Folks, don't pay full price for a flagship phone on a postpaid cell plan. Get yourself an nice midrange unlocked phone like this and go with prepaid. You'll save big bucks.

Got tired of paying $600-700 every two years for a new phone and a two year contract that is overpriced as well, so we opted for this phone at a quarter of the price as the I phone or Samsung. Paid less than $200. It has expandable memory, unlike the I phone 6+ I just returned to sprint after 2 years, dual sim card capabilities, takes pictures as good or better than the I phone and costs a quarter of the asking price. What's not to like. It's not as fast processing info as the top level I phone or Samsung but it's not that much slower. We're talking milliseconds. I'm happier with this phone because I know I'm not stuck with one service provider and I don't have to pay another $300 to keep it like I would have with Sprint. Sprint is such a rip off and provides poor signal and equally poor customer service. Good riddance.

Good: 1. Build quality is better than comparable budget phones like Blu Life One X, which i have tried before. 2. Good specs. Bad: 1. Photos taken with the native camera app have light blue tint. Using a different app from the store might help. 2 .Crashed few times during the initial setup. Heard the recent update improved the performance significantly and the crashing. EMUI has it pluses and minuses. I switched to the Google Now launcher which i like better. Overall this is one of the best budget phones you could buy for the price,

I purchased this phone for my mom to use. She's not the most tech savy person, but is familiar with Android. Coming off a Nexus 4, this was a huge upgrade for her. The screen is really nice and same goes for the camera. While this isn't a in the ranks of say an S7, for the price you can't go wrong. Also I love that there's no bloatware. The fact my mom was able to pick this up and figure stuff out right away made me feel this was a good choice for her. If you're in the market for a new phone, but don't want to shell out the $700 for a high end one, this is perfect.

I've had this phone for a month and a half now and I have to say it is not to bad. I am able to surf the web play light games and listen to music. It holds internet connection well and with the fastest update it has gained more qualities that were present in the s6 that I had before this phone. I have only two problems with this phone. The first is the call quality. Sometimes my contacts voices fade in and out while I am talking to them with the phone up to my ears. That has been easily rectified by my Bluetooth ear phones. The second problem is that occasionally this phone becomes a little laggy. It comes and goes. I however did not have this problem when I first review this phone and it maybe the many files I have stored on here. A sd card is a must. It cannot hold much on it while also operating smoothly. I have dropped this phone with out a case once on concrete and other than a ding on one corner it was fine. The fall was waist high. I have since then put a simple case on it and left the screen protector that came with the phone on it and it survived every fall with no sign of injury and I drop my phone a lot.

I have been using this cellphone for a month now. The battery lasts 3 days without charging with data always on. Can last a whole day with excessive usage. The camera is powerful and can click some amazing pictures during the day. Nigh time photography is not bad either. One of the best selfie camera I have seen. Metal body keeps the phone cool at all times. And charges from 0 to 100 in about 3 hours. Call quality is good. And you can do more than just unlock with the fingerprint sensor. Click pictures, check notifications and much more. Haven't noticed any lag during my use. Well done Honor.

The phone is great, it has awesome design, great display screen, fingerprint sensor, LED notification indicator, GREAT camera, microphone and sound. It has an iOS feeling when using it, so for those who are coming from an Apple product can easily get around the phone and its gadgets, which are pretty neat, it even has a mirror app! The 2 SIMs functionality is pretty neat, it gives you accessibility to choose which network should do (4G priority, roaming, etc). It also has this Smart setting which let's you know, depending on where you are, which Network should you use for the call.

The phone goes beyond my expectations of a lower price model. I am an everyday user, but I don't need to spend a lot of money to love a phone. This phone runs smoothly, the camera is great, and I haven't had one problem with it. I have had it for about a month or two. My only complaint is that the speaker quality isn't the best. It's not a Samsung, which might be good with the explosions lately. It's not an iPhone or name some of the other top dollar phone. But for $160 and no contract. Can take two lines and an SD card. Put in 128gb card, no problem. Fingerprint reader works well for my index fingers, have trouble with any other, but might be my fingers. Not the fastest processor in the world, but I don't care. Camera okay. You can change the Launcher, but for some reason if you have 4 additional launchers installed, it will go back to their launcher, which is alright but better out there. Just make sure you only have 4 total installed. Something about pokemon not working, I don't care. Plenty of videos on youtube about it. My only issue is I can't get native voicemail. Had to download AT&T's voicemail app, which isn't bad, but I rather miss when I miss a call and see an indicator on an icon to press. Figure it out sooner or later. Bottomline, no contract $160 phone that does quiet well in the normal everyday tasks. If you're looking for some big processor to run games, look somewhere else. Processor is slower than Samsungs, but fine for me. Did I mention that it's $160 with no contract?

Thank you for the great review, and we are happy to hear that you are pleased with your 5X. We believe it is one of the best values around and it's great knowing our customers feel the same way. When it comes to Pokemon Go, if you are having issues with it, make sure to turn AR off and that should allow you to play with no issues. (DM) HuaweiCustomerCare

I bought this for my wife after her ASUS Zenfone 2 stopped charging. For a sub $200 phone, I was pleasantly surprised by the build quality and speediness. My wife loves the UI and the camera. It's become her favorite android device. You can find newer with more bells and whistles, but for the price, this phone is really hard to beat.

We love hearing when our customers consider our devices a great value. The Emotion User Interface and the 13 megapixel camera are definitely valid features for your wife to love! (SP) HuaweiCustomerCare
