    A Serious and Powerful Contender!

Well, as many already know, the core Blackberry device era is long over, so I decided to replace my tried and true Blackberry Passport with the Mate 9. My decision to go with the Mate 9 was made after checking our tons of online written and video reviews. Let me tell you, this is the absolute fastest smartphone I have ever owned. Period! Some may ask, why did I not get an iPhone 7, or 7 Plus. Well, it's because I didn't want to be controlled by the Apple eco system,...and my 128GB MicroSD card was a must,...plus the Mate 9 has a larger screen,...larger battery than the iPhones, and it has just as fast processor as the iPhones! That said, and as my review title reads,...The Mate 9 is a serious and powerful contender to any premier manufacturer's smartphone device. Also, the goodies include in the package were a nice surprise,...as in an already perfectly applied screen protector,...a back case protector skin! When I saw those,...my immediate thought was 'Awesome'! Moving on,...Charging! Yes, the fast charging tech works,...like crazy it does! About the Fingerprint Reader! I can confirm that the Fingerprint reader of the Mate 9 is bar-none,...the fast on any device made to this date - 22Aug17! It unlocks the device the INSTANT you place your finger on the reader! Huawei should market their fingerprint reader to other manufacturers! Or,..perhaps not! Anyway,...Cheers to all. So, some of you may be wondering how come I didn't give it 5-Stars,...well, I wanted to give it 4.5,..to 4.75 Stars,..but the rating system won't allow. So, what is my 'ding' on the Mate 9? It because I've yet to get 2 days of use between charges. Although the 4000mah battery will get me through a day,...as in typical battery level around 29% at 11:20'ish PM, etc. If you're going to say your device should last two days on one charge,...then it should! Afterall,..it's Huawei's claim, not mine. Other than that,...the Mate 9 is one Boss smartphone device!! Cheers.... (JMD)

    Great flagship phone from Huawei

A little background first. I traded in my Samsung Note 4 for the LG V20, but was not impressed. Then Huawei came out with the Mate 9. I loved all of the features of this phone. The screen size, speakerphone volume and camera features were all great. It is especially very fast and responsive. I noticed the difference between the Mate 9 and the LG V20. I purchased the Mate 9 on March 11, 2017. I decided to wait a while before writing as comprehensive a review as possible, so here it is. I absolutely love this phone and persuaded my brother to purchase one also. I had no complaints until this past weekend in October 13, 2017, when I noticed that the battery started to deplete very rapidly. It would only hold a charge for a couple of hours. I had to keep plugging in the phone. I am such a Huawei believer that I purchased the Huawei smart watch in December of 2016 and persuaded my daughter to buy one also instead of going with the Samsung Gear Watch 2. I noticed that the Mate 9 somehow affected the battery strength of the Huawei watch also, and the watch also began to lose its battery power equally rapidly if not more so. I recognize that I have to reset it or whatever it takes, perhaps send it back to Huawei factory because it does come with a one-year warranty, however, I needed a replacement in the meantime. I am very disappointed that the Mate 9 lasted less than a complete year before shutting down completely. I even put the phone in ultra battery saver mode, to no avail because the battery continued to drain rapidly still. Two days ago I purchased the Huawei Honor 6X to use because I am hoping the Huawei will reach out to me and recommend what my next step should be to repair this phone. I am jaded, but I do love everything about the Mate 9 except for the continuous drain on the battery right now. And I need my phone to be available and working 24/7. All of that being said, I would still recommend the Mate 9 because it has a lot of bells and whistles. I have used Samsung for years since I switched from the iPhone, and refuse to go back to either phone, so I am hoping Huawei can redeem themselves with some assistance and fix the battery issue because, once again, the Mate 9 is a beautiful, fast, responsive phone, and takes great photos. I do still think it's a great phone at a great price with great features. There is no need to spend $900 to $1,000 on a phone when you buy the Mate 9. Huawei, please help me to resolve the battery issue, this is the reason for 4 start rating.

      Dear customer,

Thank you for your review and for your kindly feedback, we are always interested in the opinion of our valued customers and we are here to help you.

We kindly suggest you to check the information mentioned below, this may help you to improve the battery life of your device.

Step 1: See which apps use the most battery.
      1. Open your device's Settings app
      2. Tap Battery.
      3. See a list of apps and services, and the percentage of your battery that each app has used since your last full charge.
      4. To get details and change options that could save battery, tap an app or service in the list.

Step 2: Force problem apps to stop.
You don't need to close apps unless something goes wrong. Swiping apps closed doesn't save battery.

But to completely turn off an app, including any background services that may be using battery, you can force stop the app. To force stop and restart is like a "hard reboot" for an app.

Important: If you force stop some essential apps or services, your device may not work correctly. Force stop isn't available for all apps.

      To force stop an app:
      1. Open your device's Settings app
      2. Tap Apps.
      3. Pick the app from the list.
      4. Tap Force stop > OK.

To start a stopped app, tap that app to open it as usual.

If no specific app is causing the battery drain, try these troubleshooting steps. These steps can fix issues that could be draining your battery in the background.

      Restart your device
To restart your phone or tablet, press your device's power button for about 30 seconds, until your device restarts. Rebooting your device gives it a fresh start. Sometimes, that's all you need to fix an issue.

      Check for Android updates:
System updates can bring improvements that may fix your issue.
To check for and install system updates:
      1. Open your device's Settings app
      2. Scroll to the bottom and tap About phone or About tablet > System updates.
      3. You'll see your update status. Follow any on-screen steps.

If the issue persists we kindly ask you to give us a call to 888.548.2934, or if you want to you can contact us via email, supportusa@huawei.com, one of our representatives will be more than glad to assist you.

Please do not forget that Huawei provides a 12 months warranty from the date of purchase.

We remain at your service. BG HuaweiCustomerCare

The Thanksgiving sale price made me take a chance on the Huawei Mate 9 and I am glad I did. I did substantial research before buying and despite the many glowing reviews by users, tech magazines and YouTube, I was still a little hesitant because what constitutes a great phone is ultimately very subjective. I have used many Android phones from various brands including Samsung and LG but none from Huawei. Fortunately, I did not encounter any problems using its EMUI brand of Android and liked some of its gestures such as the double knock on the screen to take a screenshot. You have to enable this in the settings. The phone is fast and the screen is beautiful despite it just being full HD and not OLED or other higher end screen resolution. I like the big screen as I use my phone to read documents often. I also like that I can take pictures in monochrome. The camera works fast too. There are a couple of things I have noticed that irritate me somewhat but not to the extent that makes me consider returning it as I suspect that the problem may just be me not having set the settings correctly. Firstly, I notice that sometimes when I delete emails, they come right back up in my inbox. I have to delete them again. Secondly, after I use Google Assistant to save a reminder and exit the phone, it announces verbally "reminder saved" the next time I unlock the phone. Haven't yet figured out why it does this but I have a temporary solution until I do. I just have Google Assistant do some other task after I save a reminder such as have it tell me the weather. As long as the last task was not to save a reminder, it will not announce "reminder saved" the next time I unlock the phone. These two irritants are the only reason I am not giving the phone five stars. As I said, it may just be me not having set the settings correctly or something else that is my fault. If that is so, then the phone deserves a five-star rating from me.

Awesome Phone, but far from perfect.

I love this phone. I got it two days ago. It truly is a nice phone. If you want a large screen phone, look no further. It is super fast, awesome battery life, awesome signal, sound is clear, call sound is great. The body is almost entirely metal which I love. I hardly ever notice it getting hot/warm. Fingerprint sensor os super fast and precise. So why 4 stars and not five? Well, because it is not water resistant for one. The camera is good but not great. By not great I mean the S7 shoots better pics and videos. This camera just doesn't seem to capture the in depth detail that matters to me (but not most people). Also, video recording seems to be a bit choppy. Outdoors in bright sunlight at 1080P / 30 FPS it records choppy a bit. Also, this phone does not work with Google Cardboard Camera (the Camera app itself, not Google Cardboard). When you load google cardboard camera, it says you need Google VR services, and when you try to install that it says this phone is not supported. Also, no T-Mobile WiFi calling option here in the US. Lastly, you can not assign custom text tones for your contacts. Ringtones, yes. But not text tones (like when your wife texts you it plays a different sound then when all others text you via SMS). I tried to load a third party SMS app but it will not read the contacts for identification (Google Messenger). I looked at all the app permissions and they look right. So is it perfect? No, but I feel it is worth 4 stars.

I've been a fan of Huawei phones since the Mate 2. I upgraded from the ZTE ZMax Pro to the Mate 9. I continue to be impressed with Huawei's batteries and power-saving capabilities. The mate 9 ZMax Pro both have a non-replaceable 4000mah battery, but the mate 9 send to last a full day where as the ZMax Pro was only lasted a few hours. I was really looking forward to the dual lieca camera setup on the the mate 9 but have not really been impressed yet. The ZMax Cabrera was outstanding considering it only had one lens. And though the mate 9 is only .1 inch Shaker that the ZMax Pro, it feels considerably smaller in the hand. This is probably my biggest complaint with the mate 9. I really do like a bigger phone to fit in my hand. The touch screen is somewhat frustrating too. There is often a bit of lag in recognition of touches. But the trade of of (way) better battery life and twice as much native memory is definitely an improvement. The $499 sales tag is a bit painful for me (about $200 more than what I like to spend) but with the $179 price tag of the ZMax Pro, there is some truth to the statement you get what you pay for.

Did buy this Huawei mate 9, cause my more than 2- year old Samsung Note 4 wouldn't stay on WiFi. I was amazed how quickly and perfect this Cell phone was. Perfect and clear picture. The only thing was: it was new and did have every day some little problems like: first day it only allowed me to make urgent calls. The sim card didn't work anymore after 3 hours. The next day seems OK, but then other problems came up.. When i called on Skype, people has problems to hear me. But when they called me, the sound was really PERFECT! The picture on the lock screen changed all the time, even after i choose and set (for 3 times) one picture of their list. So.. was tired of all those problems. Did return it after one week. Now i wait a few months, by then i hope it will get rid of all those "child-sicknesses" Will love to buy it then back again. Cause it seems the best cell phone i ever had... if working normally after the necessary updates.

This is a very beautiful and well built phone. I really enjoy using the phone. The screen is great for resolution it has and good battery. The camera is excellent as well as the speaker SQ. All in all, it is a great unlock phone. However, there is some issue with some apps. Some apps will not installed due to compatibility, some will not run properly. I am not sure if it is the issue with the phone or it is simply those apps were not fully support the CPU used in this phone? Again, just very few apps that I used previously that has issue. I wish every apps works and I hope the future apps and OS update will address this issue. It is not a deal breaker, it might be for some; depending on how important to those folks.

    Epic Phone... few Drawbacks

    Posted

It's an epic phone... It's fast, excellent front and back cameras, battery is good unless you're not using apps that consume lots of memory and battery life. The speakers on the phone are insane loud so you have to keep it at mid volume most of the time. The cameras pick up light from the area you're in really well so you rarely need to use flash unless you're in a dark environment. Drawbacks are...Phone gets too hot/drains battery while on Skype. I get a good three hours in on Skype full charge before the battery goes down to 20% life. Phone touch screen is not very responsive. When I press on an App, the phone screen slides. Besides that, I love the darn thing!

The Mate 9 is a well built Android phone with a fantastic dual rear camera (on par with the iPhone IMO), USB C charging with a super charger included in the box, the elusive headphone jack, with updates, has EMUI 8, which is based off of Android Oreo. Don't expect updates beyond Oreo if you buy this phone now. If you want something more future-proof, I would look into the OnePlus 5T which is in the same price range. Huawei's EMUI is fine, but the launcher doesn't do it for me (you can always download your own, which I've done). With the special financing I received on this phone, it made it well worth it.

They Mate 9 holds up to Huawei's promises for the most part. The device is a little on the bulky side but the screen goes from edge to edge. If you get a case other than the one that comes with the device you should be just fine. One con about the mate 9 is the screen isnt as responsive as it should be. You might have to tap the screen more than once. One of the Pros about this device is flexibility to custom all the settings but this gets to be a headache until you get use to it. Also I came from iPhone and I'm pretty happy all tho I had to buy a Samsung watch right after I just bought an apple watch a month ago.

Great phone....can't believe I am going to say this...maybe just a little too big for your pockets. Fantastic display...I have done nothing but point shoot the camera and have gotten great photos and complements on them from iPhone users. There's really nothing to complain about. The new Andoid OS works well. Flawless fingerprint scanner. Unfortunately it's not ANY faster than my 2.5 year old OnePlus One phone. Probly could have used more RAM. Battery life is spectaclar, and with fast charging, I can't imagine having issue with NOT plugging my phone in overnight.

This is a very good good phone for the price. The fingerprint sensor is awesome, real fast and responsive. Screen is decent, and the OS is clean, not bloatware to worry about. Haven't used the camera much, but from the few times I've used it is pretty decent. Battery is very good for a day usage, if minimal usage (phone/text) it can perfectly last up 2 days. Speakers are good quality. I do miss the availability of Wi-Fi calling but that depends on your provider supporting the phone (I'm with t-mobile). Again, very good phone for the price.

PROS 4000 mAh battery let's you not worry about charging your phone overnight. Camera is above average. Built in 64gb is a nice touch (expandable through micro sd) Kirin 960 processor is more than capable. Phone can be charged from 0 to %50 in 30 minutes. CONS EMUI can be a headache. It's rather restrictive with running apps. Rather heavy in your pocket. No wireless charging. Screen is 1080p resolution. No wifi calling. I do not regret this purchase at all. Would highly recommend.

This is an excellent phone. Full feature. Huawei has a clone app you add to your old phone to transfer everything over. This makes thing very simple. But you will still need to log into all your accounts and apps so have sign in name and passwords ready. I bought the phone to use in my Google daydream i received for Christmas. But I needed the upscale pro version to use in it. So i docked one star because this information does not stand out in phone description so stuck with this.

Performance is amazing. The touch and response is awesome. But, the phone doesn't have radio and call recorder in it. and one thing, the you keep getting a pop-up message that com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox:interactor will not be able to record right now during the calls, recording video and so on, if you disable this using google app that makes you can't use auto play, you've to manually manage it by enabling and disabling.

You must be warned, this phone has a great camera and video quality but the phone gets really hot after recording video. I'm still not used to this but the size makes it to where it slips out of my hand a lot. Overall it's a pretty good phone. Definitely an upgrade from old phone I just hope it lasts well.

This is a phenomenal phone. All standard apps runs fast and smoothly. The phone has dual SIM card capabilities and if you only use 1 sim card the other slot holds up to to 256 gb memory card. The camera is amazing using the Leica dual lenses. The audio quality is equal to or better than the S8 especially in stereo surround mode. Only 2 minor down sides: 1. Not water resistant 2. This phone is about a split second slower than the S8 on running high end video games.

Great sound quality but no WiFi calling with T-Mo

I really like the speed of this phone. It is so quick to react to any action. The sound quality is great and the camera with this large screen is fantastic. The one big drawback is no WiFi calling capability when using T-Mobile. T-Mobile will not allow it according to their tech. This is crazy after paying this much for a phone. I would give it a five star if this was possible.

I would recommend this to a friend
