Never ever ever ever mess with the almighty military of the great US of A... foreign, domestic or alien!!!! I still enjoy this movie just as much as I did back in '96! Glad it's part of my 4k catalog for a grab and watch anytime!

Picture quality is solid for a 4K disc. Has both theatrical and extended cut with good bonus features. My only gripe is the quality of 4K disc packaging. The plastic on the bottom of the spine is chipped just from me opening it.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I have owned it on DVD, Blu-Ray, and now in 4K. Several online reviews said the DTS:X soundtrack was worth it alone. They were not kidding. I cranked it up and felt like I was right in the middle of the fighter jet scenes. The picture is crisp and holds up well against many movies today. Buy it now if you do not already own it!

best buy is worse than amazon when it comes to buying movies at this point. you NEVER get the slip covers and now they come all scuffed up with what looks like grease on the cheap trays that hold the discs. unacceptable.

(As watched on a Sony 55XBR850C tv with a LG UP870 and a Denon AVR3600H.) Movie - 4/5 Story is the typical "aliens are invading, we gotta figure something out" plot. The mid-1990s twist added to it? We hack their ship, which is at least 250+ years ahead of us when it comes to technology, with a mid-1990s PowerBook. Video - 3/5 I expected it to look better. The film looked terrific for the mid-1990s in terms of CGI, and even held up well 10 years later. The original Blu-Ray release looked good and didn't have that "special edition" look to the CGI. The 4k's CGI visuals were completely obvious in the more expansive scenes, but otherwise convincing in the "bombing" scenes, the first dogfight scene, the Area 51 Hanger, and the "in the mothership" scene where everything was CGI. Dynamic range was at least improved over the DVD and Blu-Ray releases, but color was a bit off. Streaming options were limited to 1080p for me and also lacked some visual punch. Audio - 5/5 With a 7.1.2 audio setup, the scene ambience worked in DTS-X far better than I remember. If you closed your eyes, you could feel the opening titles whoosh past you, Russell's biplane fly overhead, and the battle scenes - whoa. Perhaps the best use of this technology, however, is the scene in the hanger when the guard tries to shoot a soda can and is blocked by the spaceship's shield; the pinging of the bullet is heard through all the speakers, adding depth that the 5.1 soundtrack lacked. If you're a fan of the movie and you have a DTS-X capable surround setup, this is a worthwhile purchase. Don't expect to be wowed by the video, but do expect the audio to make up for it.

On July 2nd, communications systems worldwide are sent into chaos by a strange atmospheric interference. It is soon learned by the military that a number of enormous objects are on a collision course with Earth. At first thought to be meteors, they are later revealed to be gigantic spacecraft, piloted by a mysterious alien species. After attempts to communicate with the aliens go nowhere, David Levinson, an ex-scientist turned cable technician, discovers that the aliens are going to attack major points around the globe in less than a day. On July 3rd, the aliens all but obliterate New York, Los Angeles and Washington, as well as Paris, London, Houston and Moscow. The survivors set out in convoys towards Area 51, a strange government testing ground where it is rumored the military has a captured alien spacecraft of their own. The survivors devise a plan to fight back against the enslaving aliens, and July 4th becomes the day humanity will fight for its freedom. July 4th is their

One of my favorite movies of all time. They dont make blockbuster movies like this no more. Epic, large, and full of heart. It makes you have hope for humanity as a whole, and maybe, just maybe, forget for 2 hours about all the horrible things that are going on around the world.

ID4 has always been a favorite of mine. Its goes into my july 4th movies to watch on that day along with Jaws and the Goonies. Yes I know the Goonies isnt a 4th of July film. But it does a have good summer vibes. What best way to watch ID4 is in 4k. The picture looks good. So does the sound.

    4K Looks Great

The 4K Version of this movie looks really good, very detailed. Worth the upgrade from my original blu-ray. I've read the re-released 20th anniversary blu-ray looks really good too though. So it seems the 20th anniversary edition is a good buy regardless of HD/UHD- but if you've got 4K TV go with the 4K disc. However, once again with Fox Studios, if you own digital HD they won't give you a digital UHD. That part is garbage. Other studios upgrade your digital copy. Not Fox. Hoping Disney will change this after they buy them out.

Although it can be hokie in some aspects, ID is a great flick, especially if you're a sci fi junkie. Color looks great with 4k, as well as the added clarity. The best point of this 4k copy is that the extended edition is also mastered in 4k...not something you see often with 4k movies that have extended editions or a director's cut included. Also nice that it was on sale as part of a 2 movie for $20 sale at BB...saved over $14 on both. Would definitely recommend.

Old films look the best in 4K

Old films do really look better in 4K than the new ones. What most people don't know is newer films are actually shot in 4K and remastered in 2K for easier editing. The old ones that are actually preserved in film, and scanned in 4K look phenomenal, and this is no exception, Yeah it looks a little bit more grainy than normal because it was shot on super 35mm but still a spectacle for the eyes, We need more nineties films to be released in 4K.

Some movies don’t have much of an increase in picture or audio quality for the 4K, and that’s not the case here. Fantastic. 4 stars because every copy of this movie in store had broken pieces for the disc tray in the case, which isn’t a dealbreaker for me as I have replacement cases, but may be for some.

ID4 in 4K UHD looks incredible. This is an older transfer from 2016, but still looks amazing in 2023. Highly recommend. A great sci-fi film with shades of War Of The Worlds and other alien features from the 1950s.

To tell the truth when blue ray came out I couldn't see a big difference between DVD and blue ray. 4K blue ray on the other hand I see the difference. It is almost a sensory overload to the eyes as the blacks are incredible black and the whites incredibly white. With the 7.1 audio that my Samsung N950 sound bar delivers it delivers a phenomenal experience on a great sci-fi film.
